While driving, the abs and brake warning lights on the dash came on, and stayed on until the engine was restarted. The lights are off until driving a short distance, when they will both come on at the same time. My mechanic claims that all sensors are good, and that the abs control unit is defective. When the vehicle is cold, it takes longer for the lights to come on.

Abs light and brake lights are on. I had the brakes checked and levels are good and pads are fine. Abs is non-functioning. This is a common problem.

I have random occurrences of the abs and brake lights turning on on my 2003 Ford Windstar since I purchased it around 2009. They are often off when I first start the car, but then turn on while I am driving. The two lights always turn on simultaneously. Though only the abs is disabled when this problem occurs, it turns on the brake light and hence masks any other brake problems that may occur. I recently (October 2014) had a leak in the brake system and it almost went unnoticed because it was being masked by the abs problem. Because the cost of the repair is very high (1/3 of the cost of the vehicle), and based on reports on the internet, there are probably many people accustomed to driving around with brake lights on because of this problem. If the problem only turned on the abs light it would be significantly less dangerous. Also, given how many people are experiencing this problem, it would appear to be a defect in the design of the abs module. Back in 2011, my mechanic told me "pulled 8 abs codes dealing with a possible faulty abs control unit. " unfortunately he did not record what the codes were.

Abs and bark brake lights come on while driving then reset themselves when vehicle is turned off, then come on again while driving once vehicle warms up.

The abs light and brake light are on constantly. Brakes (rotors, pads and calipers) have been replaced.

The red brake light keeps coming on, as well as the yellow abs light. The lights typically come on after driving the car for a few minutes. This as been an ongoing issue for some time and have had brakes serviced numerous times.

The brake abs light came on again. Had been on and off during the morning. In town and stopping for a regular traffic light- during the beginning of the stop that was on a wet road - traveling 28 mph: Windstar van locked up right rear tire and vehicle did not stop - tire skidded -wheel / tire was locked and screeching while all the other tires were turning. Van did not stop as expected and took about 125 feet to stop - all the time screeching the 1 right rear tire. Vehicle just would not stop. I was shocked. Never happened before in all the years. Owned for about 14+ years. I am the original owner. Purchased Ford Windstar new. Abs light remains on. It was as if I had no brakes then. I did not understand why the other 3 wheels / brakes did not slow and stop the vehicle? the Windstar finally did stop and I was right at the stop line at the traffic light. Very scary.

Abs and emergency brake light come on while driving at any known speed. Usually occurs after the vehicles has warmed up. The lights will go out after the car has cooled down and is restarted. But will usually come back on after some extended use. There are no known fixes by the everyday user.

My abs and brake lights are on and I have heard this is due to defective parts. Please keep me informed.

Abs light and brake light comes on and stays on for days at a time then will go off and remain off for a day or two and then come on again. The problem is that both lights (abs and brake) come on and then will stay on and then go off for various periods of time. Have had all of the abs sensors checked and they all check good. Problem is annoying and intermittent.

Brake lights went on as well as abs lights and traction control lights, vehicle started to brake on its own while driving about 40 miles an hour. This happened twice for a few seconds and then I had control again. Very scary. . . .

Parking brake and abs lights on the dashboard will light up after driving it for about 5 minutes. Obd ii code reads eec test pulled codes c1185-c1194-c1198-c1210-c1214-c1242-c1246-c1250-c1254. If codes are cleared c1185 now returns immediately.

Abs brake light and parking brake light came on driving down the highway and remain on at this time. The brakes were recently serviced and currently there is nothing wrong with them. There is concern for vehicle safety and braking system. It is unknown if this is a error in the module and abs still work or if abs is disabled. Ford was contacted and made aware of the issues. Based on the compliants for this vehicle Ford is well aware of the concerns for safety, but as of this date but have yet to issue a recall. There is also a noise coming from the undercarriage that is associated with the steering column. There have been recalls on this as well, however, my vehicle was not in the recall. Ford may want to extend the recall to other Windstar vins.

A dash indicator light came on that said, "check your traction control. " at the same time the abs and the brake light came on.

The abs and brake light would come on and off. It finally just stayed on. Then the cruise control stopped working. I replaced the master cylinder brake sensor and harness with a different upgraded parts obtained from Ford. It corrected the problem, but now the problem has returned. The abs and brake light comes on all the time. The new brake sensor seems to be dry and free of brake fluid. The local Ford dealer says there is no recall problem and it will cost me another $100. 00 to have them look at it again.

Wife was going to work and brakes just went out. The abs and brake light stays on and has been on after purchasing the vehicle. I am going to look over vehicle again.

2003 Ford Windstar driving at speed of 40mph my abs and brake light indicator light up. Garage did a code reset but the abs and the brake did not go away, garage unpluged the battery and pluged it back and the abs and the brake light disppeared.

Abs and brake warning lights on ip on - fluids checked as full - lights on with most driving - occasional will be on then go off for subsequent drives. No loss of brake feel or stopping ability. Brakes checked okay at last tire rotation service by conoco station.

I have a 2003 Ford Windstar. . . Parking brake and abs lights on the dashboard will light up after driving it for about 5 minutes or so. . . These lights are on while I drive. . . But when I turn the car off and start up again they stay off, until in 5 or so minutes they come on again and stay on while I'm driving till next time I shut the car off. Is at it's worse when the weather is hot. This disengages the abs brakes I depend on especially with winter weather approaching. My complaint is that Ford dealers said this is not a recall item and I believe this should be since there seems to be a lot of folks with this same issue. Thank you.

The abs warning light and parking brake light both illuminated, and according to the manual that indicates that the abs system was not functional. Both lights now come on and turn off (always in unison) randomly and with no apparent reason.

April, noticed that cruise control not working 100% of time - not engaging and not disengaging!! opted not to use it anymore. July, abs and brake light on and didn't shut off while in home garage. Shut van off, restarted it, lights off. August, lights seem to be coming on with more frequency. Doesn't seem to be speed related. September, abs and brake light coming on more frequently. Seems to reset (for short time) after shut van off. October, had brake system checked. Disc rotor - r&r; control arm w/ ball joint - lower - front suspension; rear brakes serviced; brake fluid flush. Thought that would have "fixed" everything however less than 10 days later, the abs and brake lights are coming on again while driving. Turn van off, turn back on - lights reset - until next time I drive it!! after reading through, realize that the two might be related. Safety is a must!!.

Abs sensor and brake dash lights would repeatedly flash on and go off intermittently. Took it to the local Ford dealership and was told the abs sensor and ecu are failing and need to be replaced.

I purchased the 2002 Windstar van on 7/15/14 with 155,400 miles. Shortly after that the abs light and the brake light came on. I could not find any problem with the brakes nor with braking. The brakes seem to be working fine. The lights seem to reset themselves every so often but will come back on. (note: I am an old school mechanic not a modern day automotive tech).

My abs and brakes lights have been coming on at different times for my 2002 Ford Windstar for a long while, and stay on now that it is summer. I have tried to fix this problem on two occasions and changed the bad ecm with a new one and the problem has returned both times only after a few months. I made a left turn at about 5 mph with the two lights on and when I applied the brakes at the completion of the turn to stop at a red light the brakes seized and the car continued moving slowly into on coming traffic while making a metal grinding noise. I was able to quickly put the car in park to stop it right under the light. I then turned the car off and back on and the lights went off and the brakes worked normally again. A few blocks later the abs and brake lights came back on but the brakes didn't seize this time. This issue is dangerous and I had both my wife and children in the vehicle with me. Ford needs to recall these cars and build a ecm that will not expand during warm months causing the abs system to fail. Mechanics have told me that this is a major issue with the Windstar.

Abs and brake lights on dash signaling problems intermittently. Does vehicle have electrical problem or module failure.

Brake light and abs lights are on, brakes are fine, fluid level is fine, but light is on. Abs now not working. Speedometer does not go above 40 mph until driven at least 3 miles, this is also causing the cruse control to not work smoothly. Transmission is not shifting into overdrive, transmission is clean and working. All of these issues began within a few weeks of each other.

Abs brake lights come on intermittent. First time noticed was on vacation and cominv to a stop at a toll booth and both lights come on. Has happened several times since. Ford dealership wont do anything about it. I see there has been a recall on this. How about another recall?.

Loved my Windstar then all of a sudden my dashboard lit up like a christmas tree. Odd thing is that it is July? first fuse #10 blew, we replaced it n it blew again. After about 6 fuses we just dealt with it. Chalked it up to it being a 2002. Then the brake light started coming on and off randomly. Odd because there is no rhyme or reason to this. It can be on, I can shut my van off to get lunch and boom its off when I come back out. Again I chalked it up to being a 2002. The final straw is this abs light. It is on, it is off, it is on, it is still on. I swear this van is possessed and I do not even beleive in that stuff. Oh and "traction control" is showing up on my dashboard. Go figure! I had the 2009 recall #09s09 completed immediatley in 2009. However I am still having issues. I have had 3 very good mechanics look at this issue and they say my van is fine. I myself am not very mechanically inclined however I know when something does not make sense and this my friend does not make sense. I repeatedly told my mechanic that this was an electrical problem to which of course he laughed. However after a little yahoo and google he now agrees also. I have never heard of this website until 2 days ago in my research of this issue. Hoping that your investigation will make Ford do something about this sometime soon? it is costly and beyond fristrating. I can only pray it does not lead to brake problems seeing as though I have children in the van the majority of the time.

We continue to have issue with abs and brake light kicking on randomly. When this happens brakes become tight, squeal. Brakes and system appears fine. Others have the same issue. They need to recall.
