Failure Date: 02/07/2014

My battery has been dying due to bad sensors, when I did get it started it became stuck high revving ,the car accelerated and smashed into the curb in front of me, and the brakes wouldn't work so even when I stepped on the brakes to put in reverse the car went flying into the curb behind me, I finally got the vehicle to a complete stop by pulling up the emergency brake. Then I had the car towed to my house.

8 Brake Sensor problem of the 2002 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 07/01/2010

We had the wiring harness recall performed in June 2010. Shortly after the recall was performed the abs, brake & trac control lights started to illuminate intermittently. We have replaced 2 abs sensors among other things however the lights continue to come on. Took van to dealer today for axle recall & informed them of abs, brake & trac light issue. They said wiring harness was replaced & there was no leakage @ the time they replaced. I asked them to please look & see if they noticed any signs of leakage around abs module. After 2 minutes they came back & said no. They said that it was probably a sensor when I told them they have been replaced they said well we would have to hook car to machine & check codes which would cost me $80 (mind you auto zone is free). I have come to understand that there are many Ford Windstar owners who have the exact same problem and I believe that this problem is due to faulty materials or wiring and that abs module needs to be replaced but because it's so costly Ford will not recall the part. I have three young children that are being driven in this vehcile. I don't feel safe driving this vehicle without the proper safety features I was promised - including anti-lock brakes. Ford holds a lot of peoples lives in their hand due to this problem (whether it be the car catches on fire or loses braking power), they can't replace a life or an entire family for that matter but they can surely replace a faulty part. Please I am begging to make Ford recall this problem that is affecting so many people, make it part of the original recall, it's all related!!!.

9 Brake Sensor problem of the 2003 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 01/01/2010

My speedometer will not work at all, go up and down or get stuck, indicating the wrong speed, while in motion, also at a stop, it will pop up, happens on city street and on highway. I have researched this and there are multiple complaints about issue with Ford Windstar minivans. To me this is an extreme safety issue as I find it distracting, have no idea how fast I'm going. I was driving through a school zone today and while I was not driving fast, I could not say for certain that I was within the speed limit. I'm continuously looking at my speedometer, taking my foot off the gas to see if it will drop, but I can't trust that the speed reading before was correct. I can be driving and it will pop right up to indicated 100mph, when I'm driving in my neighborhood. I get alerts and signal alarms for "low brake fluid", "check advancetrack", my airbag warning light is on intermittently, and my rear back up sensors don't work either. I have also had problems with the drivers side sliding door not staying shut when parked, I have had this feature disabled for safety reasons. It will start to close, reopen, start again, close partially and then reopen again, even if the door is locked it will do this. These are all ongoing problems, I don't know if they are tied together. I have had the vehicle looked at for problems and have been told that codes come up under diagnostics but when the actual parts they are warning about like the abs, low brake fluid are fine. I have had the car at a Ford dealership multiple times for the door issue and were told they could not figure what was causing the issue.

10 Brake Sensor problem of the 1998 Ford Windstar

Repetitively failing abs by cracked abs rings(four times) or faulty abs sensor.

11 Brake Sensor problem of the 2002 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 05/02/2007

Abs warning lamp on. Dealer spent considerable time testing each wheel sensor, unable to verify cause. Code given was c1155: lf anti lock brake sensor (electrical/static). Later replaced all 4 wheel sensors with no luck of fixing. Replacement of ecm necessary to clear mil.

12 Brake Sensor problem of the 2001 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 09/05/2005

We purchased a 2001 Ford Windstar 04/2005, in 09/2005 while pulling into a parking spot the brakes failed & engine surged. Summer of 2006, it happened a number of times with my wife driving, very similar to the first incident. We took it to our local repair shop who replaces a brake sensor. It happened again & they replaced another brake sensor. It happened again this time we took it to dealer in 07/2006 where the said they had to adjust the brake sensors and that everything was safe. It happened again, we took it back to dealer in August 2006 where they had it until 11/2006 telling us there was nothing wrong with the van. Not feeling safe with the van took to another dealer who has had it 11/2006 till present 03/2007. I have talked with a number of mechanics out side Ford who have seen the same thing including a Ford sales woman who had it happen to her vehicle. I have been told it probably is something in the abs system & that it would be over $2000 to replace but no guarantee that this would correct the problem ( I don't have that kind of money to waste) . I also see a lot of similar complaints on this web site. This problem is a life safety issue & should be resolved by Ford. We are paying & insuring a vehicle, for 9 months that is not safe to drive. Help please!!!!!.

13 Brake Sensor problem of the 2001 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 09/01/2005

The contact owns a 2001 Ford Windstar. While parking the vehicle it surged forward when the brake pedal was depressed. The mechanic stated that the abs sensor needed to be replaced and performed the repair. Approximately two weeks later the problem recurred. The dealer stated that the abs sensor needed to be adjusted and performed the repair. Approximately a week later the failure recurred. The vehicle was towed to two dealers, and both were unable to locate any failure. The current mileage is 90,000 , and failure mileage was unknown.

14 Brake Sensor problem of the 1998 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 07/10/2004

Three (3) abs sensors have gone bad and had to be replaced on this vehicle since ownership. Each sensor cost $175. 00 with labor to replace and vehicle is out of service for 1/2 day.

15 Brake Sensor problem of the 1998 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 10/08/2002

The sensor that controls the abs braking system has failed and as a result the brakes no longer function properly. A technical service bulletin has been issued, however, Ford refuses to replace the part. We have contacted both the dealer and Ford directly to request that they pay to replace. This part should not fail on a vehicle with 43,000 miles, and they obviously know of the problem based on the technical service bulletins. I can provide the VIN number later if it would be helpful. Mr.

16 Brake Sensor problem of the 2000 Ford Windstar

Failure Date: 07/17/2001

Brake pedal went most or all the way to floor, with very little ability to slow vehicle, producing rattling noise from wheel. Dealer reports "failed rf sensor ring, air bubbles in brake line, rear brakes need some adjustment".

17 Brake Sensor problem of the 1996 Ford Windstar

The brake bracket has gotten weak from rust and gets into rear hub causing a loud irritating noise. The rust causes the rear brake antilock sensor to light up in dash.
