The abs is coming on as I come to a normal stop which causes the braking distance to suddenly increase just as you're about to stop. You have to take steps to avoid hitting the car in front of you due to the abs errantly engaging.

Abs indicator keeps turning on and off randomly at increasing intervals and is now staying on more often. The speedometer's needle in the dashboard also fails to register the speed that the car is going and moves wildly back and forth.

As I was driving on the hightway the 'check advance track' light came on. The light has been coming on and for couple of weeks now. Check with a machanic and was told might be a abs sensor.

I lost control on the highway I was driving I hit a pothole and my car wen its own way I waa ciming home from the hospital from just giving birth two day earlier and I keeo hearing a weird noise so I took my car to the shop and they said it was the lower control arm.

Abs, traction control, cruise control and speedometer either are intermittent or not working at all. This causes issues with braking, vehicle control, driver attentiveness and other safety related issues.

Ford found that the rear axle had a hole in it causing the axle to shift to the right. Recall work was done a few years ago. They said it was my fault and would not pay. Abs and traction control light come on however reset when restarted. As of today they don't go off.

I didn't have a crash I noticed that my abs brake and tire pressure light was staying on and a short time after I started hearing a loud rumbling noise in the front end every time I slow an it's impossible to make sudden stops and at times my speedometer starts flickering back and forth as well as my cruise control is currently inoperable. I have limited driving this vehicle in which I purchased due to feeling it is not in a safe manner for my children to be in. I have had several shops as well as individuals that told me these areas are common to go out on this specific vehicle and that there is possible recall. I just want to be able to drive my van with out worrying if I'm going to be able to come to a stop when needed as well as not knowing if I could possible break down or something break in the front end while I am driving at somewhat high speeds. The contact owns a 2002 Ford Windstar. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 mph, the brake pedal went to the floor when depressed. The vehicle continued to accelerate over a curb and crashed into a tree. There was no personal injury. A police report was not filed. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where the scv switch was replaced. The manufacturer was notified and they informed that there was not a recall related to the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 234,000.

The anit lock brakes and traction control shut off randomly. We can drive for miles and nothing happens. And other days the car barely starts moving, and the system shuts down.

The contact owns a 2000 Ford Windstar. The contact stated that the abs warning indicator illuminated and the rpm gauge displayed inaccurate readings. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic and the instrument cluster was replaced; however, the failure was not remedied. The manufacturer stated that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 09v399000 (vehicle speed control). The failure mileage was 150,000.

The abs and check engine lights went on (again, after I had numerous items repaired or replaced on this van). I went back to my mechanic who found that a part was needed, called the c1185 and is part of the abs module system. I then went to Ford dealership to see if this part could be replaced, and they told me that the manufacturer for this part had gone out of business and the part was no longer made! I have had these items repaired/replaced on this 2000 Windstar since I bought the vehicle in December 2013: 1) Ford dealership replaced ten-speed control deactivation switch per recall 2) my mechanic then repaired the electronic braking system, speedometer and odometer, which was tied in with the speed control deactivation switch (repairs were over $420) 3) my mechanic reinstalled improperly installed rear windshield wiper 4) my mechanic installed new battery.

Abs, brake warning lamps lit, speedometer doesn't show the operating speed.

While driving, the abs and traction control warning lights will sometimes illuminate at the same time with a warning chime. Until the vehice is stopped and turned off/on; these lights will remain lit and neither the abs or traction control will function.

Mechanic checked obd and found code c1185, abs relay power circuit. Shows recall however Ford states that there is no recall for this.

Both my abs and brake "dummy" lights are on. Will go off for small amount of time after vehicle restarted, pop back on after a few minutes.

Abs system warning light on continuously.

Abs system activated under normal breaking conditions, caused extended breaking distance. Has happened 13 times since the initial failure. Dealer unable to replicate but scanned for codes and found c1185 which they said was failure of the abs controller/computer. They suggested $1200 in repairs but couldn't guarantee it would "fix the problem". Have multiple abs fault codes all the time now. C1198, c1194,c1254, c1246, c1250, c1242 ,c1214, c1210, c1446 which all point to multiple failures in the computer. . Read more...

We were pulling into a parking lot and smoke came from under the hood. I immediately shut the vehicle off and raised the hood. I am familiar with automobiles and determined that it was not oil or coolant smoke but an electrical burn in the making. I rapidly disconnected the battery and called for a tow truck and had the vehicle towed home. At the house, I reconnected the battery and nothing happened,then drove it for about 5 miles and the smoke came back. I immediately took the vehicle back to the house ( was very close) and disconnected the battery again. The smoke is coming from the abs controller. I have done some online research and determined that there is a recall on this issue, so I called Ford. They told me that my VIN was not included. I then called the factory help line and advised them of the situation. They wanted me to take the vehicle to the dealer, pay the bill and submit it for consideration. I am not included to do so, as I am afraid that the vehicle will catch fire.

Abs and traction control lights illuminated while braking on snow and ice, abs stopped working and van skidded out of my control, pumped brakes until vehicle came to stop, luckily did not occur at next intersection,or would have slid into busy intersection !! brought to shop and they did some diagnostics and came up with van needing a new abs/traction control module. Very expensive repair. Upwards of $2000. 00, if both abs module and abs hydraulic control parts need to be replaced. Went online and have read many many complaints of this problem on this model of van. Ford knows and they wont issue or recall a major safety / brake recall. . . . . . This could cause someone severe injury or death !!! brakes are there to safely stop a vehicles motion !!!!! dealer says very common problem with these Windstars. If Ford could fess up and make part very affordable then I could fix van myself. Rear axles,subframes breaking have been addressed. I had stopped at the stop sign. When it was clear for me to go, I accelerated and when I got to the next sto sign and slowed own, my car would not slow down. I pushed on the brakes, heard a loud vroom and the car kept going. It's happen 3 more times. One time, I was at a fast food resturant drive thru. I was slowing down as I got in line and when I put on the brakes, the car made a oloud vroom sound and keep going. I kept pushing on the brakes and it finally stopped. I cannot remember if I put the car in park or not but I think I did that time. I would have tapped the truck in front of me. I read online about a son whose mothers wind star had the same problem. It may need to be recalled.

Arrived at destinations and stopped. Tried to leave, brakes had not released and would not release. . Had to drive home against the brakes which were smoking upon arrival at home. Next day, brakes went back to normal. Two days later, same occurrence. Brakes would not release, overheated, brake pedal pushed hard up with all brakes applied. Nest morning after cool down, brake pedal resting on floor; would not pump up; no brakes. Since I have owned this vehicle, brake and abs indicators come on for no apparent reason, I. E. , 3 drops of rain on windshield and indicators come on. Ford dealer was made aware of this, said it was an ecu problem and did nothing about it, saying it would cost me about $700 to fix.

I have an abs code c1185 which may be related to a faulty solder joint in the abs module. This renders the abs system ineffective.

Driving and light will come on and when you go to stop it will vibrate. And the brakes are new and that light will be off and then it will come back on and stop bad again.

Abs/airbag, tire gauge lights on - ebcm module failure.

Abs module frequently sends warning with multiple trouble codes. My understanding is that the abs system is not functional when this occurs.

Front of vehicle started grabbing. I checked the codes and found c1185. I have read that this is a common problem with the abs modules with the Windstars. I would like to file my complaint and have a recall for Ford to fix the problems with the abs.

The abs, brake, and trac lights come on while driving down the road. This doesn't happen every time, but has become more frequent. Have not found a reason for it to come on, like hitting bumps or wet whether. The electrical system issues is rear windows won't open all of the time. The door locks don't work all of the time. The lights in and outside the van dim in and out.

Anti skid system failed during a heavy rain. Almost hit a vehicle in front of me who's brakes stopped him in time from a major collision. Have not fixed the problem since because it is the major hub of the abs braking system that failed.

The lights come on after a few miles of operation and stay on until the engine is shout off. The next time the engine is started the car will travel a few miles and the lights will come on again.

Traction control engages when turning. Acceleration is limited while traction control is engaged. Antil-lock brakes engage when stopping causing extra stopping distance. Dry pavement.

Takata recall I smell gas oftenfrom inside the car, break light comes on often engine light wont go off I had a transmission put iny CA\-.

I am in the process of trying to figure out what is going on. While driving on the interstate (with cruise control on) I noticed the od light started flashing and the check engine light came on. I pulled over and the brakes were smoking to the point I was afraid there would be a fire. I had to sit on the side of the road with my toddlers and wait for it to stop smoking. I was still about 20 miles from home. I am not someone who is fortunate enough to have family nearby or friends who could help. We are on a tight budget with a child who has special needs and only one working parent so could not afford a tow. The 'check engine' light stayed on but the od was off upon starting the vehicle. The od came on 2x in the 20 miles it took to arrive. Each time it came on I pulled over, turned the van off and back on. When the od was flashing when I let off the accelerator, even on an incline, it was slowing me down so I figured the brakes were engaged. With the cruise control on I was unable to tell so I was pushing it up to 70mph with the breaks going against it. On the way home I did not use cruise control but it kept happening only it was very noticeable that the brakes were rubbing. There is now brake dust all over my tires and the side of the van. This could have caused an accident, this could have caused a fire! my daughter is disabled and in a complex child restraint system with straps and positioners. I also have a 1 yr old and if something had happened I am not confident I could have gotten them both out in time had a fire started. I need this van to carry my daughters wheel chair around. I am extremely irate. We bought this vehicle 3 months ago (second hand)!!!! something needs to be done about this issue since I have read online that it is actually common!!! they are saying the code is p1744 torque converter clutch system stuck in off position. $3000 to fix!!!.
