GMC Sierra owners have reported 34 problems related to brake foundation components (under the service brakes category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
1998 GMC Sierra experiencing problems with the front abs sensors. Red grease was inside of the sensor area. The brakes would pulsate just below 15 mph. The vehicle would shake and pull to the left each time the brakes were applied below 15 mph. The brake pedal would bounce up and down creating an uneasy feeling to everyone in the vehicle. The abs would activate prematurely. The consumer felt that he should not be charged for a faulty brake system.

Steady braking performance degradation since new, in conjuction with premature rear brake failure @ 28000 mi (2. 5 yrs old), while front brakes still had over 50% remaining pad life. Dealer stated that rear rotor rust caused rear pad failure. Inspection of rear pads indicate other problems-uneven front to rear wear on lr inner pad . 018" -. 044", while lr outer pad had no brake material left. Rr outer pad had slight grooving across top with thickness between . 110-. 118", rr inner pad had grooving top and bottom, with between . 122-. 151" thickness pad material left.

The consumer's vehicle had brake problems. The vehicle was taken to the dealer on sept. 3, 2004. All 4 brakes and rotors were replaced. The rotors broke on removal due to all the corrosion. New rotors were install but they have corroded again. Consumer heard clunking noise when turning steering wheel, dealership technician lubed the intermediate steering wheel and clunking was gone. After getting the rotors and brakes replaced about 2,026 miles later they have to be replaced again because of corroding.
Faulty brakes caused the vehicle to pull when braking, the dealer replaced the brake hoses, bled the system, readjusted the brakes, turned the rotors and replaced the calipers. Nlm.

While driving at any speed and without warning, the brake pedal would stall. Then, seep to the floor. Dealer replaced hubs on the front two brakes to remedy the problem. The left front door was inoperative from the inside. The right wheel cylinder was leaking. Dealer replaced hub assembly. Dealer removed and replaced the brake pads, also resurfaced rotors.

Brakes are not working properly. When applying brakes the vehicle will not slow down. Then consumer has to press the brakes all the way to the floor. Contacted dealer.
Rear disc brakes are of such design that they get wet and rust, which causes them to drag. Rotors wear out prematurely due to this, causing extended braking distance.
Consumer started vehicle up and turned wheels to go, and the wheels would not turn. Also, brakes went out. Brake was pressed down, and steering was very hard to steer. Power steering pump and serpentine belt were replaced. Shaft broke internally.
Vehicle vibrates when brakes are applied at any speed. Consumer's mechanic found that front and rear brakes were rusted. Dealer stated brakes were normal.
Everytime the brakes are pressed a noise is heard and it continues to go for a distance even though the brakes are on.
Brakes will work sometimes and back will not, at times pedal is hard to press and vehicle barely slows down, contacted dealer, and dealer stated nothing wrong with vehicle.
Brakes seem to sputter when depressed heavy/light @ any speed. This problem still continues. General tire brand-rear right tire blew out the side wall on freeway @ 75mph-ran over nothing. Right rear tire was replace @ no cost, due to failure. Problem has not accured yet. Steering wheel always feels loose-has been checked and service claimed "there is no problem". Also mother-in-law has a 2000 4dr ext. Cab with the same brake problems among a few others including ac vents smelling ect. Service has checked and replaced few brake parts(2 times) and problem still accures. All of these problems presist and are a major safety problem to my family and I. We would really like to see these problems fixed before any injuries accure!!!!!.
There is no indication on the panel that there is pulsation. Also there is no abs noise and light braking power. Dealership is aware of problem. Consumer stated that heat vent cap keeps popping off and replaced. Tail gate bed liner not flat, panel rippled and rescuer rear panel, install additional fastener. Horn pad failed, brakes are squeaky,, abs system checked could not duplicate any problem, brake pedal goes to floor at times and vehicle does not stop, master cylinder leaking internally.
Vehicle went out of control and hit the median causing injury to driver and passengers because of brake and steering mechanism failure. Yh.
The consumer state's there is a leakage within the hydro- booster and the master cylinder which causes while driving at any speed and applying the brakes, the vehicle is pulling to the right. Ak.
Brakes make noise and pull/vibrate when applied, the rotors and pads replaced however the system still experiences problems.
Intermittent brake failure caused vehicles wheels to lock only on the right side causing the vehicle to be thrown into a ditch.
Brakes failed, was told there was a complete brake systrem installed and the brakes still failed causing an acicdent and resulting in injury to the driver.
Consumer has experienced many problems with brakes, a grinding noise was heard in the right front wheel and dealer replaced the brake shoe kit and stated that front brakes were doing all the work, 3 months later a whining noise was heard from the front of vehicle, dealer could not find any problems, in January of 2000 more front noise was heard and dealer installed cylinder, valve kit, drum assembly, spring kit, pin kit, and shoe kit, brakes also caused vehicle to pull to the left, 12-08-00, caliper kit and pad kit were installed and 7 days later all brake fluid was lost because of a faulty caliper kit, dealer replaced a seal which had cracked.
Vehicle wears out brake pads because the caliper to knuckle clearance was insuffieicent.
Consumer states that the brakes pull to the right, dealer states the problem is the oversized tires causing the abs to react wrong, consumer thinks this is incorrect due to disconnection of the abs and the same problems existing, new hoses, calipers, pads, and rotors have been replaced.
Brakes failed, causing accident, also airbag failed in accident.
While drivng at any speed under any condition and when brakes are applied, vehicle makes a loud rubbing noise and pulls to the right very hard. Dealer has been contacted.
