The new parts that I put in my car will have a warranty, but the new motor that I put in my car went under the old power train warranty. 9 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2014 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 02/01/2020

I have only had the vehicle since 11/2019. It twice has had the check engine light to come on. The first time it was in 12/2019. The check engine light was on for about a week. The auto start was not working, and the only issue I seen was that if it sat running for a while like for instances, warming up, it flooded and the engine would continue to run a few seconds after ignition key was taken out of the ignition. Engine would stop after bubbling to a stop. Then the check light went out and everything worked properly. But, on 2/1/2020, my check engine light came on again. My auto start is not working again. As long the check engine light is on, the vehicle will not auto start. The car is again flooding out after engine shut down. After ignition key is taken out of ignition. The engine will run for a few seconds and then bubble to a engine stop. Wonder if other customers has had problems like this too? but, that is not normal for a vehicle to have a check engine like to come on and it interferes with the auto start and cause the vehicle to flood out like it does.

10 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2016 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 01/17/2020

On January 17,2020. I was drive with my son going about 35miles when all of a sudden my stalled out or felt like it did but continue to drive. The check engine light turned on and the dashboard screen stated engine power was reduced and my stability needed to be serviced. Or something like that because it wasn't on to long. Luckily wasn't going to fast and there were no cars behind me. I've researched other complaints and I'm not the only one. This needs to be addressed because if that would to happen on a busy highway. O. M. G.

11 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2015 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 10/21/2019

Check engine light came on, took vehicle to the dealership the same day. Was told the timing chain needed to be replaced because it was stretched. I've had the same driving habits (distance, destinations, etc) for all 4. 5 years that I've had the Terrain. I've had all but 2 oil changes completed at the dealership where I purchased my car originally. I've consistently had my oil changed every time my light comes on and says it needs to be done. I had my oil changed 5 days ago, on schedule and today my engine light comes on and I'm quoted at minimum $2k for a timing chain repair. I called another GMC dealership to get a quote on the work and was told more than $3000 would be expected. Every mechanic I've talked with (at each dealership) suggested this is a known issue with GMC Terrains, equinox's, traverse's.

Failure Date: 09/22/2019

While in motion the car is randomly shutting off the engine while in motion on a city street but will immediately start back up once turning the ignition back on. This issue also caused my check engine light to come on and after doing a dianostics it turns out that the intake valve solenoid that went bad. After reaching out to several mechanics and GMC dealers they've told me that this is a common issue with my car type. Another issue they mentioned is that if you replace one and not the other, more than likely the issue will occur again.

14 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2011 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 08/15/2019

My car shut off once while I was in idle at a red light and second time when I was backing up into a parking spot some one who was driving opposite me could have hit me when the car abruptly stopped. Luckily they were going very slow and stopped when my car stopped. 15 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2010 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 08/08/2019

I only had my car for just about one year. The check engine light ended up coming on and I found that the catalytic converter was the culprit. No matter what I do this sensor comes on. Now here recently, the light to check the airbag system has come on. I have once before checked to see if there were any recalls on this vehicle, but there supposedly were none, yet I see so many complaints about the same issues that I am having on top of the defrost system being no good. This car has cost me more than it is worth and selling it would just leave me with nothing because I still owe on it. I need fixes and answers before this thing ends up in flames which is what I fear each day I drive it. This began in August of last year and now I am getting scared for my life.

18 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2019 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 05/31/2019

I purchased a 2019 GMC Terrain VIN: 3gkalmev8kl186579 on Jan 17, 2019 at rizza Buick GMC 8415 w. 159th street, tinley park IL, 60487, on January 17, 2019. This was my first brand new car and I was excited. I traded in a 2014 GMC Terrain in the process, knowing I would be upside down on the loan. I had the first service done on April 23, 2019 at said dealership. At that visit I explained that I was hearing a noise on the passenger side vent even when the hvac was not running. I was told nothing was detected and my vehicle was fine on may 24, 2019, I drove my vehicle to memphis tennessee with my family for memorial day. On may 25, 2019 the check engine light came on, I was losing power to the engine. That same night customer service towed my vehicle to sunrise Chevrolet Buick GMC, 1800 covington pike memphis, tennessee 38128, a nearby GMC dealership and set up a rental car in the area for me to drive. Because it was the holiday, enterprise was closed, and I had no vehicle to drive for two days. This was an inconvenience to me and my family, I had to alter my trip plans that were made back in February 2019. On may 27, 2019 I was told by caleb burrow the technician at sunrise Chevrolet that air box tube was loose and not properly installed and could have been done during my service I had done April 23rd. I was assured everything was okay and I was good to go. On may 31, while traveling back home the check engine light came on again. Same message on the dash and it was raining at 3am. I was close to home and was able to make it to the dealership that I purchased it from. My vehicle has been in service since may 31, 2019 and I am just finding out that I have a part that is on national back order. I am not satisfied with my experience an I am reaching out to you to resolve this matter.

19 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2013 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 05/20/2019

Complaints for my 2013 GMC Terrain flex fuel when I was at a stop light with a 4 lane intersection. Whenever the light changed the vehicle sputter out or quit when I took my foot off the brake to press the gas pedal. The vehicle behind me almost rear ended the back of my SUV. Also, having to hold brake and gas pedal at the same time during stops to keep the vehicle from going dead. The first repair was a month ago due to code p0013 and p0014 which my mechanic repaired the camshaft sensor and accelerator sensors. Those were repaired and the check engine light was still on and I returned it back to my mechanic who repaired the sensors again because the parts had a warranty. Once again after leaving my mechanics shop the check engine light came right back on after driving 8 miles. Also, let me say I do trust my mechanic, as he has worked on my past and current vehicles with no problems. Anyway, my mechanic could not get a problem code on the Terrain so the next day the vehicle was promptly taken to my local GMC dealership to see if they could diagnose the problem. The mechanic at the GMC dealership stated the vehicle needed a timing chain and gears, which was going to run $1100-$1500 to fix. I don't have that kind of money and vehicle is not covered by a warranty due to the year and mileage. After doing some research on the internet, it seems several consumers are experiencing this same safety issues with the GMC Terrains. I have only had my SUV for a few months and my dream vehicle has turned into a nightmare. I had three local mechanics within the last month say those vehicles are bad to give trouble and my mechanic stated there has been numerous recalls on the Terrains over the years. This is not safe and something needs to be done by the GMC manufacturing company. The check engine light is still on. Thank you.

20 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2015 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 12/25/2018

The car keeps stalling when trying to accelerate in reverse or drive and the check engine light is on. This is problem as I am reading up on this so I believe there is some kind of recall that needs to happen. This is bullshit.

21 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2014 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 10/26/2018

Stopped at a light and car just stalled without warning. Put the car on park and put my blinkers on. Looked at dashboard and no check engine light on. Turned car off and on then it started to drive but stalled 4 more times after I came to a full stop at a light. Used the fixd app and it detected 1 problem code p0011 intake camshaft position sensor and the test turned the check engine light on and explained that variable valve/camshaft timing in the internal combustion engine control the intake and exhaust gases in and out of the gas combustion chamber. Sensor should last as long as your car but can become damaged due to wear and tear but my car only has 93000 hwy miles and is only 4 yrs old.

23 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2011 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 06/09/2018

Transmission failure with no warning, torque converter replacement $3,500 around 120k miles. Check engine light unable to be diagnosed or repaired succesfully since 100k miles. Code p0420 with no catalytic converter issues. Every O2 sensor replaced, code will not clear. Stalls without any warning, low rpm, rough idles, engine just shuts down. No dash indicator lights illuminate when failure occurs. Restarts. Oil must be changed early as it seems to consume too much. Undiagnosable. Have been told by every mechanic it could be computer related, timing chain related, regardless this 4cyl GMC has too many complaints for yheae issues not to have a recall. It is incredibly dangerous when random engine failure occurs and I have had more close calls fearing for my life in this vehicle than I can recall at this point. I have spent almost the value of this vehicle in major repairs in the year I have owned it.

24 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2013 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 05/31/2018

08/17 check engine light came on, took vehicle to a mechanic, he plugged in the computer to assess the code which was p420 after assessing my Terrain he decide that there was not an issue with the converter and reset the computer, told me if the check engine light came on again to bring it back. For the past year I have noticed that I had to add 1 to 2 quarts of oil in between oil changes. I made a right turn and went to excelerate up a small incline and my dash went completely black and my vehicle shut off and started rolling backwards. I applied the break, turned the key off and attempted to restart my Terrain and it would not start. I had to have the vehicle towed home. The next day our mechanic came by our home to look over my vehicle, when the computer was plugged in numerous codes were listed. At that time our mechanic informed us that the motor needed to be replaced. I started to do research and found that this issue is known by gm. I contact gm customer service and was told that my vehicle is outside of the parameters that gm is willing to cover. After additional research found that there is a class action lawsuit for this exact issue with equinoxes and Terrains. Called the dealership where we purchased our Terrain and was referred back to gm customer service, so I called gm customer service again, the representive was very rude and again informed me that I would have to pay out of pocket to repair my vehicle or I could file a complaint with the NHTSA. I have contacted gm customer service 2 additional times as well as the dealership with no luck of a resolution and gm acknowledging that my vehicle would have been included in the "special warranty" however I am outside the 120,000 miles, per the gm representative I have to pay out of pocket to repair or replace my vehicle as they are not responsible due to my current mileage.

25 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2010 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 05/09/2018

Just like so many others that have complained, the engine seized with just 85,000 miles on it. It was always well maintained and out of the blue, while driving on the highway at about 45mph (in light traffic), the check engine light came on and it died. I've had two mechanics look at it and both say it needs a new engine. They both also say that this is one of the worst engines that has ever been manufactured. I now have to decide if I want to pay $6000 for a new (used) motor, or if I want to walk away and eat the balance of my loan. Thanks GMC!.

26 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2016 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 04/25/2018

When driving the car will not respond correctly to the accelerator, delayed response. The car will also not shift correctly (as thought you are shifting manually). While driving the vehicle's gauges will jump up and down followed by the check engine lights coming on. Car will then go into reduced power mode. When pressing on the accelerator the engine will rev and then the car slams down into 2nd gear. The car has been in a GMC certified garage 7 times and out of service while in the garage 40 days and counting. Numerous attempts at repair have obviously been unsuccessful. Gm is refusing to by the car back because I bought it at premier Chevrolet GMC in morgantown, wv used with 27,768 miles on 2/5/17.

27 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2011 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 04/20/2018

My car will stop while im driving and I didnt get the proper dignostics of why it was doing that, they just told me to switch my gas to premium. & then my check engine light came on . 28 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2014 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 11/09/2017

I just hit 105k on my vehicle and the intake camshaft position timing is causing my SUV to shut off while stopped. I was pulled halfway into a major highway when the light turned green I went to take off and the engine died. I tried to see if there was maybe a recall but I did not find one for my VIN number. Anyone else's check engine light coming on and throwing this code?.

29 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2011 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 04/18/2017

I bought the car used three weeks ago. The check engine light came on the other day and I had the code read. It said my intake camshaft sensor needed to be replaced. The light turned off a day later, but I called the dealership anyways and they said sometimes it will just red codes wrong and not too worry about it right now. A few days after that I was at a stop light and went to accelerate and my care shut off. This then happened the next day after I was pulling out of a parking spot and later the same day when I went to park my car on the street. It seems to happen when the car is in low idle. I have read numerous complaints by other GMC Terrain owners who have the same issue. I don't need to be stuck in traffic stalled with the possibility of being hit.

30 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2012 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 03/23/2017

The check engine lights continually comes one and off. At first, when my husband turned on the truck and saw the check engine light we took it in and the error was for 1 coil pack. It was fine for a month, then after starting the truck again the check engine light came on, and we replaced all of the coil packs. Now when we start the truck, the check engine light may be on or off. At least once a week, when we start the truck the check engine light will be on. This issue has been reoccurring and has been going on for close to a year. The last 5 or 6 times we had it put on the machine there have been no errors found and our mechanic's baffled. Especially since the truck may stutter or become sluggish or shut off like before whenever the check engine light comes back on. If something is wrong with our vehicle but no errors are found we have no clue if there is truly something occurring and if it's causing serious damage and harm to our family. Our vehicle was manufactured in canada and we aren't sure if there could be issues being reported in canada that we don't know about. In addition, there are recalls that we weren't notified of but nothing pertaining to this issue.
