1 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2012 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 01/21/2021

Vehicle began to use excessive amount of oil and idel up and down and sometimes even shuts down. After about 3 months while driving on the interstate it began to shut down while in motion. I called for someone to check the vehicle out and he arrived called someone to check the vehicle and he actually told me it seems to be the motor gone bad but he asked would I drive it back home if he followed behind. It literally scared me and my 4 children to death when it shut down while in motion with that kind of speed so I don't trust putting my children in it now. I don't think its safe at all. The vehicle I once thought was perfect for my family is turning out to be a nightmare.

2 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2014 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 08/27/2020

I was on my way to work. All of a sudden my car stopped abruptly, with no warning lights or signals. Immediately after the car shut off, the engine light came on. The car was towed to GMC. I was contacted on Saturday, August 30th, by the service tech for an update. Apparently, the spark plug moved out of place, and the piston pushed it into the engine. The technician mentioned that he had never seen any like this before. The vehicle is only 6 years old. There should be no way that something like this could take place and I lose everything and have to purchase an entire new engine. Moreover, had I been on the interstate when this happened, I could have been killed along with other people as well. In a world of technology, there is no way that this should have happened without any warnings or safety mechanisms in place to prevent the spark plug from moving into the engine.

5 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2012 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 09/29/2019

I was driving my 2012 GMC Terrain and as soon as I slowed down or stopped my car would shut off and I would have to try to restart it. Fortunately, I made it home without having to stop. As I was turning in my driveway it shut off again. Onstar suggests it may be a timing issue. Help! I took it to the dealership to get a new battery and when I got my car back the fuel sensor was not working. It was working before they got it and GMC collierville refused to fix it. I can't afford all these major repairs and will not by another if GMC does not resolve the consumer's issues.

7 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2018 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 06/04/2019

The new auto stop that shuts off the motor when you're at a red light doesn't work properly. Sometimes it shuts off, but most of the time it doesn't been to the dealer two times and the radio will not come on at times even though gm has performed updates on these problems. The problems still exist.

8 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2011 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 03/25/2019

I was driving and my vehicle totally shut down. I had stopped to make a right hand turn. As soon as my turn was complete; it shut down. And would not restart I had to have it towed home. Previosly to this it would stall, and I would have to put it in nuetral to restart it. Then next day I had it towed to be seviced thinking it was the fuel pump. Got the call from mechanic telling me the problem is the timing chain broke and has caused serious engine damage. . . . . . Piston and valves torn all up. . . . . Obviously a huge problem with this vehicle model. I have read so many complaints about this issue in regards to this model. My Terrain only has a little over 100,000 miles on it. I have to pay $5,000. To have a rebuilt motor put in it. . . . . . Shame on GMC for putting so many of us customers in danger of being seriously injured. And causing us to pay for this problem; that this vehicle obviously has. I'm sure the mechanic shops love seeing us towing our junk Terrains come rolling in. They are making some serious money on rebuilding motors that should never be having these problems. . . . Come on with recalls please. . . I can't afford this extra expense.

9 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2013 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 10/22/2018

My vehicle currently has approx. 54k miles and I began experiencing serious, dangerous defects with the vehicle on 9/12/2018 when I was backing out a parking stall my car just completely shut off with no warning. I was able to place it in park then restart it and drive about a mile before it shut off again as I was approaching a stop light. I had to coast the car onto a nearby street out of traffic for my and my son's safety. I waited a few moments and was able to restart the engine once more and drove about 2 blocks before it shut off again in the middle of an intersection. I pulled over and called the gm dealer where I purchased it to determine if there had been any recalls or a warranty. I was told I would have to cover towing and diagnostic fees and was not entitled to any type of warranty coverage. I had a test of the battery performed which came back that the battery was not good. I purchased a new battery and had it installed that night. Although, I had a new battery I had another episode of the car shutting off with no warning after trying to back out a parking stall. It will also periodically jerk and hesitate to accelerate at low speeds or when trying to accelerate after coming to a complete stop. On 10/22/18 as I was entering the on ramp to get on the highway in rush hour traffic, the car engine shut off with no warning nor light indicators. I put it in park and was able to restart it so that I can move it to a safe location. The car again would feel jerky at low idle speeds and when I tried to accelerate after coming to a complete stop as I was in bumper to bumper traffic. This has been a dangerous ordeal as a pregnant woman with kids in the car, while on a freeway or road I can easily be hit from behind. My car is only 6 years old with 54k miles on it and should not have such severe defects.

10 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2015 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 09/28/2018

I purchased my vehicle from a dealer in June 2018, and about a month of purchasing it my vehicle has been hesitating in acceleration, at first I didn't think anything of it, but it started getting worse. Two days ago when I was driving my vehicle in the downtown area (city streets), it was bucking a lot. When I got to my destination and restarted the vehicle, I put it in reverse and proceeded to drive back but the car shuddered and then shut off completely and the malfunction indicator lamp light came on (but it didn't stay on long). Today as I was driving it continued to jerk, especially when I was driving around 20 mph or below (which I had to do because of the school zones). My vehicle shut off again as I began to pull off from dropping my child off at school, which almost caused another parent to crash in the back of me. The only way I could keep the car from shutting off again is by accelerating on the gas above 20 mph.

11 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2011 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 05/07/2018

Abs light is on even after fixing the supposed problem. System stabilitrak constantly on. Excessive use of oil. 2 to 3 quartz every 2 weeks. Reduced engine power comes up on dash and no matter how fast I am going (15 mph or 80 mph on a highway) it doesnt matter my car will slow down or just shut off. Also happens when I have to hit braked hard, slow down or accelerate from a stopped position. I am also using a lot of gas.

12 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2013 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 04/19/2018

Stalling issues - I have an issue with my vehicle stalling - the vehicle will stall out after staring the ignition and putting it in reverse or drive. Once you give it the gas it will just shut down - loses all power. It's happened when backing out of a parking space, it's happened at a stop sign before pulling onto a roadway, it's happened leaving my driveway - I have researched an have seen that this is a common issue with this make and model and don't understand why there has not been a recall. This is putting people's life in danger, I am looking to get rear ended or knocked out of the road by a truck or something. The code is coming up as an oxygen sensor -.

15 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2011 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 01/21/2016

While driving message read reduced engine power lost all power could not control the steering wheel! then the car shut down and continued to roll down the highway . Almost got hit by other cars from behind. Very frightening for me I almost got a panic attack. I managed to stop the car on the shoulder of the road with half of the car still blocking other cars . Car will not start. The battery is new . I have done research on social media and there's thousands of gm customers who have or are facing the same issues. Is this another cover up by gm that's continuously ignoring this problem and the consumers are paying thousands of dollars in this repair. I was told I need repairs that will cost $4000 dollars on a 2011 GMC Terrain car I got a year ago. This is ridiculous. Who is fighting for the consumers?.

16 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem of the 2011 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 03/12/2012

The engine or fuel system show a severe malfunction. When at a stop light, the rpm's drop so much that it shuts down sometimes, some others, it barely stays on. I called the dealership and told me that it was not a warranty covered repair and that I had to pay for the diagnostic plus whatever was wrong to repair (parts and/or labor). All of the sudden, now the "stability trac" check light goes on an off without apparent cause. I feel like I'm driving a vehicle from the 1950's. It's a great looking comfortable SUV, but very disappointed with performance and fuel consumption.
