1 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2014 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 03/06/2023

Bought car in 2021 and a few months later car started turning off while driving. Check engine light came on. . Replaced sensors and all was good. Fast forward to a week ago. . . Scheduled an oil change like I always do. . . Check engine light came on and engine started rattling. Stopped driving immediately. Checked oil and there was none. Added 3 quarts. Took to garage to have them take a look at it. He did the oil change but doesn't handle engine repairs and believes it is my timing belt. The vehicle only has about 65,000 miles on it and is a 2014. Common occurance apparently with this vehicle that needs to be addressed.

2 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2010 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 11/27/2020

Driving on the highway my car would not go. Car sensor prevented my car from moving because the wheel bearings went out on the used car I just purchased. The timing belt is also loose and the motor can seize up at any moment. My all wheel drive stopped working as well because of this. I had to put on my flashers and try to make it to an area where I could get off the highway. I called a tow truck. I have copies they will not download here, but available if needed.

4 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2014 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 02/17/2020

My 2014 Terrain stalled out at a stop sign. I restarted the truck and was it made a noise as though something was wrong with a belt. I went around the block and it stalled out 3 more times. I backed it into my driveway and noticed all of the oil on the ground. I had the truck put on a flatbed and towed to the dealer. According to the service department, the rear master seal blew. Somehow, as explained to me, water gets into the engine and freezes. This causes pressure and that is the cause of the damage. My Terrain turned 5 yrs old on 11/21/19 with only 50,249 miles. I am very disappointed. I have always owned a gm vehicle and have never had a problem until now. The warranty does not cover since it is 5 yrs old and I am out $3,000 for repairs. I don't even have the truck paid off yet. There has not been a recall or policy/warranty waiver.

5 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2011 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 05/18/2019

I had pressed on the brake to yield before entering a round a bout and without warning my Terrain shut off. I was able to put it in park and restart it. However not even a mile down the road turning into a parking lot it shut off again with out warning. I was able to coast out of the way thankfully and put the car in park and then restart it. Then again this afternoon turning in my driveway it shut off again with out warning. Other than today the car has shut off with out warning 3 other times. I can't make it 3000 miles before I need another oil change as well. I have the timing belt break on me, the actuators have been replaced multiple times. I've lost count on how many times my car has been in shop over the last year. I'm very afraid that the engine is going to shut off again without warning and cause and accident with my kids in the car.

6 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2010 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 04/04/2019

I own a 2010 GMC Terrain, I had to replace the timing belt mid 2016 which cost around $2000 , now less than 3 years later I'm told it needs replaced again, another $2400 this time. My vehicle is barley over 100,000 miles. This is absolutely ridiculous. Of course the first time my warranty had just expired and the replacements warranty is 12 months/12,000 miles. So of course not covered again. I would think that GMC would want to address this as an issue. Almost 4000 in repairs and vehicle less than 10 years old and apparently 108,000 miles. I've seen several other complaints online and feel GMC should help cover the repairs or do a recall and cover it. I won't by another GMC.

9 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2012 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 11/05/2018

I also have a 2012 GMC Terrain that has an oil consumption issue that has caused complete engine failure. Approximately 2. 5 weeks ago the car wouldnt start. Engine would turn over but not start. I thought that it might be the fuel pump. Had it towed to my mechanic since it has 87k miles and out of warranty. So I went to check the status of the car and the first thing I was told was there was no oil when they checked it. They added 4 quarts before trying to diagnose the problem. Mind you the oil was changed 3k miles ago and oil life monitor said it had 54% life left. They ran the car for codes and the only code that came up was for the tire pressure system, also an issue with the Terrain. No issue was found with fuel pump or sensors. Spark plugs were replaced due to them being all fouled up. That didnt fix the issue so it was determined that it must be the timing chain jumped. At that point I had it towed again to the dealership I purchase it from. I was told it would be 125. 00 to run a diagnostic. Fine. So I get a call the next day that it was indeed the timing chain. I asked the service guy what would cause this and I was told poor lubrication or low oil pressure. Thats when I started to explain that the first shop had to put 4qts of oil in bc it was bone dry. I asked about the VIN specific letter I received last year,2017, about the oil consumption issue and isnt that why there was no oil and hence causing the timing belt to jump. He answered "no". Then told that upon further inspection, the valves were bent so we were now looking at 3500 to fix or 6k to replace the engine with another problemed engine. So that is when I contacted the toll free customer service line about the situation. They told me to go back to dealership and speak to the customer experience manager.

12 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2011 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 01/01/2018

I was driving on the highway and the car cut off as soon as I slowed down getting off the exit. I started the car back up and it said that the stabilitrack was off and that I was losing engine power. I got to safety, checked my fluids and I had no oil in the car. But I changed the oil recently and had 3,000 more miles till my next oil change. I towed the car to my mechanic and described what happened. He told me that their was an internal engine failure that caused the timing belt to break. I called my insurance and they had a field adjuster look at the vehicle and he nor the mechanic could figure out why or how this happened on such a well maintained vehicle. They both stated that there is no way that I should have had 2 major system failures (I just replaced the transmission) with the current vehicle mileage. I called GMC and they will not so anything to help me. Their only solution is for me to tow it to a GMC dealership and they will look at it. I could've died in this car, I still owe on this car and they won't help me.

13 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2010 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 07/19/2017

No warning indicators (as in none ) of any kind for low oil or low oil pressure as a result when oil is low or empty it will cause the timing chain / belt to break. GMC has a warning about worn rings that results in excessive consumption of oil. Within about 2500 miles of my oil change it was out of oil and resulted in the timing chain / belt breaking. It happened as I was on the entrance ramp to the interstate system.

So I want to say that it was short 2 or 3 quarts of oil. Me not knowing that it had been leaking. Failure Date: 05/16/2015

Car started making rattling noise on startup. Got worse. Took to a few car places and thought it was the oil. But the oil was fine. Then the engine light came on and a second later the car shut off while I was diving down the road with my two babies!! very dangerous! ran into a friend who has the same make and model car as mine and said she had the exact same problems. Has 80k miles and has already changed the timing belt five times. Car just shuts off. Extremely dangerous! I will report this to everyone I know and warn them.

18 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2012 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 02/20/2015

I purchased my 2012 GMC Terrain from clay cooley in irving, TX on 01/05/2015 with an extended service contract. I have had issues with this vehicle ever since. I took the vehicle in for service and was told the service contract would not cover my issue and that the issue was caused by lack of maintenance, which is not the case as I maintain the oil in this vehicle and even had to purchase a new battery for the vehicle recently. I am attaching a picture of the condition of the battery shortly after the vehicle was sold to me to where I contacted my sales agent and he advised me to check my service contract. This car¿s engine repeatedly stops, especially when approaching a red light or stop sign or at the moment of acceleration. I have had to avoid many accidents due to people driving up on me because I should have been accelerating at the time but my car turned off. The battery would die on this car on a weekly basis which caused me to purchase a battery and there is still no progress in the vehicle. There are electrical issues as well as the lighting in the car gets dim when we are in the dark but bright when the sun is out. Also, the seatbelt for the passenger¿s side constantly rings sending a notification that the seatbelt needs to be latched, even when no one else or nothing else is in that seat. I fear that one day I may need that air bag and it might not work because the seatbelt appears to be faulty. Also, another issue, which is not necessarily a safety issue, but an extreme nuisance and also maybe an electrical issue is the car radio and volume will freeze at any given moment and the car has to be stopped and idle for a period of time before the radio is active and able to turn channels again. The safety issues for this car is real and I am in fear that I will get hit from behind due to the faulty engine.

19 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2010 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 02/10/2015

I own a 2010 GMC Terrain. When I had an oil change done I noticed an abnormal ticking noise and the check engine light would not go off and brought my vehicle in for a diagnostic and was told the timing belt and chain had to be replaced the check engine warning light illuminated. In addition, I only had this vehicle for 2 yrs and for this kind of problem under 100,000 miles is crazy. The vehicle was taken to a dealer who diagnosed the problem I went to other mechanics who would not touch the vehicle and said this was a dealer issue and was advised that he has had a few customers with the same problem and I am not paying 2,000 for a part that has been known to cause problems but is not covered under warrenty.

20 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2012 GMC Terrain

I have had to avoid many accidents due to people driving up on me because I should have been accelerating at the time but my car turned off. The battery would die on this car on a weekly basis which caused me to purchase a battery and there is still no progress in the vehicle. The motor knocks badly upon startup, especially in the mornings. The engine is very weak after an independent diagnostic check. And just last week, as I was driving on the highway at normal speeds, the muffler shield broke, fell, and began scraping against the highway. There are electrical issues as well as the lighting in the car gets dim when we are in the dark but bright when the sun is out. Also, the seatbelt for the passenger¿s side constantly rings sending a notification that the seatbelt needs to be latched, even when no one else or nothing else is in that seat. 21 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2010 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 03/01/2013

Approximately around the high 4x,xxx miles the engine started giving me extended cranking issues. It would crank for 4-5 seconds and not start at all or start but idles really low like its going to die. I has done this countless amount of times, even caught it on video numerous times only because every time I bring it in for the starting issue I always get there is nothing wrong with your vehicle, have a nice day. It gets really frustrating when the wife and I daily drive it and it happens about 2-3 per week. At times when I turn off the car, it sounds like its still on for a few seconds and than turns off like when a building loses power. On another hand, over a month ago the dealership checked the oil and said I was really low on oil. But their's still nothing wrong with my vehicle they claim. And to make things worse the seatbelt sensor came on and stays on a few hours after I picked up my vehicle from the last visit to get it checked for this cranking problem. This is the worse vehicle I ever owned. I would not recommend the Terrain to anyone. Oh yeah, I also brought it too 2 different GMC/chevy dealers with no help from them at all. This is the last time I'll buy a GMC/chevy vehicle - built very poorly.

23 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2011 GMC Terrain

Failure Date: 12/27/2010

2011 GMC Terrain. Consumer writes in regards to engine problems and several other issues with vehicle. The consumer stated the district manager of gm refused to allow the dealer to check the ecm/ecu and other appropriate systems, to make sure all the engine settings were as they should be, since he experienced several strange events, such as the shifter hanging in d sometimes as he tried to move to park, very low mpg for several days 24-25 mpg, when he usually got 28-33 mpg. The oil percent meter used to be at 95%. The engine would rev to 7k-8k rpm when the first started and held 2-3 seconds. Sometimes the engine revved to 1600-1800 rpm and the vehicle would almost stall, and sometimes the malfunction indicator light would illuminate on the instrument panel. Soon after, the fan belt began to squeal. The squealing began, when the vehicle was started or when driving at various speeds with the ac on, and going up some slopped highways, roads and streets. The dealer replaced the belt. In the summer of 2011, when the vehicle was started the engine would make a chattering-tapping metal-to-metal sound, as it there were no oil in the engine. The problem would occur with a cold or hot engine. The problem stopped after p0011 error solenoid was replaced.
