I noticed my oil l was leaking severely. I had to add oil between changes even. Ended up having both seals replaced less the 2 months ago. It is still leaking. I have to have my oil changed every 2 weeks and add 2-5 quarts between changes. Just put my 2015 Terrain back in the shop at the dealership. They informed me that there is known issues with the piston rings in previous models. Why has there not been a recall issued for this known problem? I just spent almost $3000 2 months ago and am probably looking at that much again to have the issue fixed. It's my daily driver vehicle. I live out in the county so it's a combination or highway and city driving. I do not drive crazy or hard. I routinely take care of all maintenance on the vehicle. There is no reason I should be having this issue.

Tl the contact called on behalf of his daughter who owns a 2014 GMC Terrain. The contact stated that while his daughter was driving 60 mph, without warning, the rear main seal fractured causing oil to leak from the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The contact, a certified mechanic, inspected the vehicle and noticed the oil leaking from the rear main seal. Tom davis Chevrolet Buick (2831 n 16th st, parsons, KS 67357, (620) 860-0751) was contacted and informed of the failure. The contact was informed that the VIN was not under recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure however, no further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 106,000.

While driving on highway at approximately 70 mph, on low temperature day (~f), smoke began emitting from bottom of vehicle with pungent smell. The vehicle was immediately pulled over and shut off. There was oil covering the entire undercarriage. The oil was present substantially on the exhaust system, allowing for potential of fire if vehicle continued driving. The rear main seal was leaking and required to be towed home then to dealer at later date for repair. The repair and associated remedies followed TSB 19-na-021 but were not warrantied as the vehicle's VIN did not fall under the associated bulletin's guidelines. All repairs and remedies were identical to previous reported failures of above listed bulletin.
My vehicle is using oil. I am adding 4-6 quarts between oil changes. It is not leaking out anywhere. I have taken it to the shop multiple times and they cannot find a leak. Sometimes the engine feels like it shakes when I crank the vehicle or when I shut the engine if. There seems to also be less power.

Oil was pouring out from the bottom of our 2013 GMC Terrain, "low oil pressure shut off engine" signal came on the dashboard. Terrain had to be towed to a local shop where they ran a diagnostic test. Diagnostic test came back with #19-na-021. We were informed about sb-10057977-8108, a recall from gm involving an oil leak from rear part of engine. We have also been informed that our VIN is ineligible and cannot be protected through the special coverage, but are requesting an investigation into the matter.
On a highway way home and says reduced engine power like 3 days after getting transmission replaced had to get it towed I had my kids with me and mechanic told me it's the engine it had no oil in it when it did have oil before that happened it didn't show leaking or nothing now I'm out of my money under 86,000 miles yet 2011 Terrain.

2. 4 l 4 cylinder engine , rear main seal leak, leaking a lot of oil , GMC bulletin number 14882 , they have hour some of their 2. 4 engine vehicle, I have the same problem based on mechanic diagnosis, poring oil out from main seal between engine and transmission . Leak continues and this oil leak goes all the way of back of vehicle, it causing abs sensor read wrong, at rear and also smokes under car because leaks goes to exhaust unit. Please I need this issue looking in to to recall , this rules applies 120 k miles, 10 years, I wanted to get this recalled because they are hiding info, so they wound t fix more affected vehicle, I have been nail down by VIN, however leak does not get check out by VIN , leaks will be check by tech, mechanic or service department. So I have been given run around, I have seen so many post at social media, that they have been denied by VIN. Problem is still exist out there millions affected with those engine main seal issues.
Driving on expressway car began to smoke from under hood. Pulled over and placed car in park. Briefly caught fire under hood due to oil coming out. After inspection of cause, rod went through cylinder block causing oil leakage and blown engine. Recall unknown however I was informed that this was a common issue and there is a service bulletin out for it.
My auto started leaking some kind of oil. Not sure what kind but I can see accumulation on driveway concrete pad. Had motor oil & filter changed in case it was a o-ring or not tight enough. It continues to leak.

Smelt something burning while driving. Car started bucking and jerking. I pulled into a parking lot and noticed a puddle of oil leaking out underneath my car. No check engine light or any notification that anything was wrong. Had it towed to dealership and they told me pvc froze up and blew out rear main seal. This is the 2nd time this has happened to us this year. We own another GMC (2013 equinox) and the exact same thing happened 2 weeks earlier with it. Frustrating that GMC is aware of this defect with their engines and not willing to issue a recall to correct it. We had to pay $2500 to fix the equinox. Luckily the Terrain is still under factory warranty but with both cars we were out of a vehicle for several days. Will it happen again???.
I have a 2015 terrian sle. Around 57,000 miles my terrian started burning 2+ 2+quarts of oil in between oil changes with no apparent reason, I have always kept the oil changed before it got below 7%, after noticing the oil levels dropping fast I checked it everyday. The engine light came on with my last oil change, 2 weeks ago, showing 2 bad cam sensors p0010 and p0011. I went to my mechanic only to find out that the 2. 4 motors have been littered with oil leaks, timing chain problems, cam sensor issue and stalling. I paid good money for this car and I am not pleased with the continuing motor problems from GMC. If the same problem that occurred on early models is still happening, why is there not recall? I am frustrated as I have only one vehicle and the out of pocket cost is ridiculous, especially when I'm being told it's cheaper to buy a new crate motor than fix what is wrong. I have always been a fan of GMC until this. It's no wonder why everyone has switched to foreign vehicles, the ones made in the us are so cheaply made and priced 3 times there value.
My engine light came on as I was driving on the highway. Felt like there was slight exhaust smell leaking in the cabin because had a headache driving home and driving to dealership. Also, noticed black oil or wet soot inside my tailpipe after I parked it and checked it. Stanley Chevrolet told me that it was a bad timing chain beating against engine causing a gas smell and quoted me over 2 grand to repair.
Airbag light came on at 125k miles. Known problem on this year/make/model is airbag sensor on passenger side. 90k miles timing chain replaced. 154k miles timing chain broke 3 qrts of oil needed every 2k miles 154k miles transmission leaking fluid 100k miles catalytic converter needed replaced 125k miles downstream air sensor needed replaced 150k miles upstream air sensor needed replaced solenoids need replaced every 50k miles.
Rear main seal leak, pvc valve freezes from water condensation and low temperatures: causing crank case gases to become highly pressurized and blow out the rear main seal of the engine causing a massive oil leak on the road to the rear tires possibly causing loss of control to the rear wheels causing the possibility of a fatal loss of control vehicle accident. Other possibilities oil coating entire undercarriage of vehicle causing a vehicle fire, catistrophic engine damage causing loss of control, enviromental impact 5 quarts of oil on the highway.

The car was taken into steven lust automotive and we were told that a transfer seal needed to be replaced and that GMC was aware of the issue but would only warranty the issue if the car was produced in a certain factory. Same year same model all having same issue but produced in a different plant. Now the stabililtrac warning comes on and from research on the web this is a common issue that they are aware of also but refuse to fix. This car only has 66000 miles on it. We also contacted GMC and they told us that they are aware of the problem but will not warranty it unless is was produced at a certain factory. When the stabilitrac warning was noted I was driving down the highway and the engine just shut down. I do believe this issue is due to the excessive oil leak coming from the seal. This is the second time that I have placed this complaint. When I called to confirm that I placed the complaint no one could find it.
Just purchased this vehicle 5 months ago and have a major oil leak which is going to cost over $1000, mechanic told me there is a recall 14882 called GMC customer service and was told my VIN is not covered. How do you have a recall for the same year make model but not all are included but all having the same issue? this is a serious issue and the vehicle needs to be recalled before someone get seriously hurt, especially when the vehicle is just cutting off in traffic.
Vehicle experienced catastrophic engine failure that was not covered by GMC under any warranty. Engine blew up and all the oil leaked out due to the hole that was formed in the.
Tl the contact owns a 2015 GMC Terrain. While driving 30 mph, the vehicle began to hesitate and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. Also, when depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle would not exceed more than 20 mph. The contact noticed oil and transmission fluid leaking from the vehicle. The contact stated that she received a letter from the manufacturer regarding the failure. The vehicle was taken to castle Buick GMC (located at 7400 w cermak rd, north riverside, IL 60546, (708) 442-7474) where it was diagnosed that multiple unknown repairs were needed on the engine and transmission. The vehicle was repaired, but the failures recurred. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 5,412.
I was driving down the road when my 2010 GMC Terrain suddenly lost power and slowed down. The next morning my check engine light was on and stayed on. I took it to the dealership and they stated that I needed a new engine. Problems with the timing chain being stretched, camshaft and camshaft actuator, and oil leaking in the engine. How could I need a new engine, my car has 58,500 miles on it. Gm had a recall due to the timing chain stretching. I had the recall taken care of in Nov 2013. 1 1/2 years later, 15,000 miles later and 2 1/2 months past my warranty and the engine goes. Wasn't the recall suppose to take care of this issue. The dealership stated that the engine would cost around $6,000. They supposedly called gm and gm stated they would cover roughly 60%. I still have to pay $2500 to have it repaired. Plus the engine is a rebuilt engine so I can run into the same issues. I was livid. I contacted gm and they wouldn't even help me. They stated they could only work with the dealership. I have to leave it to some dealership to negotiate on my behalf. I know I am getting taken to the cleaners on this but what can I do. I have to fix it in order to trade it in. Gm knows there is a problem with the engines in the 2010 Terrain and they don't want to do a thing about it. I noticed a lot of other people were complaining of engine problem on their 2010 Terrain too. What makes the situation worse is on 5/17/2015 my husbands check engine light went on in his 2012 GMC sierra.
