38 Air Bag problem of the 2014 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 06/24/2025

The contact owned a 2014 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 mph on a two-lane road, the contact pressed the brake pedal to avoid rear-ending the vehicle in front. The contact indicated that when pressing the brake pedal, the driver's air bag erroneously deployed, causing the driver to lose control of the steering and crash into a guardrail, where the vehicle came to a stop. The vehicle in front was not crashed into and left the scene after witnessing the crash into the guardrail. The contact sustained severe facial and oral injuries along with a concussion, chest and arm bruising, which required medical treatment. A police report was filed at the scene. The vehicle was destroyed and towed away. The cause of the failure was not determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The dealer was not contacted. The contact was also concerned that metal fragments may have exploded from the air bag deployment. No additional information was available. The failure mileage was 70,000.

The contact owns a 2013 Honda Cr-v. The contact stated that while in a commercial parking garage, a second vehicle crashed into the rear of the vehicle, causing the driver to inadvertently press the accelerator pedal and lose control of the vehicle. The vehicle accelerated forward and crashed into a truck before crashing head on into a pole. During the failure, the vehicle sustained severe front end damage, but no air bags deployed. The contact sustained neck and back injuries, which were treated at the scene and later at the urgent care medical facility. The contact indicated that the vehicle was destroyed and later towed to the home. No police report was taken. The cause of the failure has not yet been determined. 41 Air Bag problem of the 2025 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 05/27/2025

I was parking in our apartment's parking lot when I attempted a left turn to pull in front-facing toward the wall. Within seconds, and without understanding how or why, the car continued forward and hit the wall. Initially, I reported to the insurance company that I either didn’t brake or found the brake too late. However, the truth is—I do not clearly remember what happened. My mph had to be low. When the car hit the wall, several emergency systems were triggered: an automatic emergency call was made, collision alerts sounded, and the brakes activated. During the collision, my left arm was burned by the steering wheel where the Honda logo is located. The burn left a visible imprint of the Honda logo on my skin. Only some of the airbags deployed: the steering wheel and right-side window airbags were activated. However, the driver's side window airbags did not deploy. My concerns and complaints include: 1. The failure of the driver’s window airbag to deploy 2. The burn on my arm caused by the steering wheel’s Honda emblem 3. The inconsistent performance of the emergency braking system, which only works sometimes.

42 Air Bag problem of the 2017 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 05/24/2025

The driver side, curtain airbag deployed incorrectly. The airbag deployed at an angle. Instead of the airbag going down to provide a barrier between the window and the driver, the air bag slid to the right hand side of the driver's head. This meant that the driver's head was squeezed between the window and the airbag for two or three minutes until the airbag deflated. The car seat airbag was deployed as well. The collision happened at a 30 degree angle. The driver was stopped and the oncoming driver was traveling 10-15 mph. The rear door on the driver's side was struck and was the only door damaged. No windows were damaged. The vehicle is a total loss and is being towed by the insurance company to be auctioned and salvaged.

43 Air Bag problem of the 2019 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 04/28/2025

The driver seatbelt failed to lock when rear end collision occurred and drivers face slammed into steering wheel. The steering wheel airbag failed to deploy when the car rear ended the vehicle in front of them. Drivers safety was jeopardized and now has severe concussion. Repair center stated seatbelt showed zero signs of locking and air bag should’ve deployed. Vehicle was inspected by insurance and was deemed a complete loss. No warning lights sounds or messages went off when vehicle was rear ended and front end collision.

44 Air Bag problem of the 2016 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 04/21/2025

I was in a very low speed fender bender and hit the vehicle in front of me square in the tail end. The airbag needlessly deployed leaving me with a burn and disabled my vehicle. It was a collision that should have been driven away from after the exchange of information. Instead my vehicle which has very little damage required a tow truck die to the deployed airbag.

49 Air Bag problem of the 2024 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 03/01/2025

I placed a bid on a vehicle at the CO-part location in [xxx] . I reviewed the damage etc. And found it to be an acceptable risk. It was advertised that the car was in an accident with the passenger side and front grill damage. Here was allegedly no damage to the motor and most importantly the airbags had not deployed. It was being sold with a salvaged title. Knowing these issues, I purchased the vehicle, had it towed to miami and began the repairs. I purchased all genuine Honda parts from the dealer and still I could not have all of the lights reset. Upon taking it to another dealership, I learned that my rear seatbelts needed to be replaced, as well as all of the airbags as they had been cut out of the vehicle and the areas where they were located have been closed using drywall screws, some of which are still there. The described condition of the vehicle directly influenced my decision to purchase this vehicle. The lack of airbags could not be discovered from an inspection. I spent over $27,000 to purchase and repair this car as I believed that it was a newer car with much longevity. I was misled by the offer from copart, and the actions of this company amount to deceptive business practices and possibly even fraud in the inducement. The description of the vehicle and its condition, specifically that the airbags were not deployed, led me to believe that the car was as described. Copart either knew or should have known based on the information provided from the lien holder/insurance that either the airbags had all deployed, and those would have been shown in the photos or that they were still in the car and somehow went "missing" while in the custody of copart. Copart knew this and yet they continued to advertise the airbags as intact. Copart knew that the condition of the car was worse than advertised and that the "as is" terms do not shield copart from the liability of this misrepresentation as this was apparently intentional or reckless. 58 Air Bag problem of the 2017 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 11/01/2024

The vehicle airbag warning light 'srs' displays randomly. We paid almost $200 for a diagnosis and have been told the passenger airbag needs to be replaced at a cost of $800. The diagnostic code is b0020-13 "open or increased resistance in the left side airbag inflator". I have contacted Honda and they denied any 'good will' service to replace it due to the age and mileage of the car. We drive around 20k/yr. We do regular maintenance. Honda cannot confirm if the airbag will function properly. We have not 'worn out' the airbag as it has never been used but I do expect it to function in an accident. We bought the touring model of the Cr-v for the added feature of led headlights. Safety is a high priority and I expect Honda to stand behind their safety features.

59 Air Bag problem of the 2000 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 11/01/2024

Honda Cr-v 2000 - I repeatedly contacted dealer in 2020 to get airbag replaced due to recall, but they said they didn't have replacement parts. 11/1/24 I brought car to Honda el cerrito for airbag replacement due to recall. Srs light was on after their repair, but I didn't know that was a problem. I brought the car to another mechanic a couple weeks later for visual inspection prior to sale, and he said srs light shouldn't be on & go back to dealer. It took awhile to get another appointment due to holidays. About 1/3/25, dealer looked at car again and said it had a faulty airbag inflator (in the airbag they replaced). It took 8 days for them to approve replacing their own faulty inflator. Meanwhile I couldn't drive it. They replaced the airbag, but then informed me the cable reel was broken and not covered under recall warranty. However, nothing was wrong with car prior to bringing it to el cerrito Honda, other than needing a replacement airbag due to recall. I'm not aware of srs light being on prior to visiting ec Honda / airbag replacement the first time. Honda el cerrito is requiring me to pay $650 out of pocket to complete repairs, since cable reel is not covered. However, my understanding now is that it is common practice to replace the cable reel along with airbag, due to the fact cable reel sometimes breaks during replacing airbag, and it is a sensitive necessary part for srs function. Honda corporation says cable reel is not included in the recall / warranty, so this is an out-of-pocket expense to me / consumers. I believe Honda el cerrito either damaged the cable reel or is requiring me to replace it bc it's common practice with airbag replacement. However they are simply putting the cost & responsibility on me due to age & miles of car. I believe this part (cable reel) should be included in Honda's warranty if it is common practice to replace it along with airbags, since their airbags are on recall. Consumer should not have extra cost due to recall.

While the contact's daughter suffered emotional distress due to the accident; she did not sustain any physical injuries. A police report was filed. Due to the accident, the vehicle was initially towed to an independent tow lot; the contact then called the dealer who referred the contact to an independent body shop. The vehicle was towed to the body shop where the contact was informed that the steering gearbox worm wheel was defective and was given an estimate for the repair. The contact was later informed that a recall had been placed on the vehicle for NHTSA campaign number: 24v744000 (steering). 68 Air Bag problem of the 2019 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 06/09/2024

*this car was parked in the driveway 2 days without being driven before the following incident* also- there are recalls for this make and model. Honda always said that the recalls do not include my car. Recalls should be expanded to include mine since the car is un drivable at the Honda service center. What happened: alarm went off on car in driveway. Horn constantly going off. Smoke came out around steering wheel and inside the vehicle filled with smoke. All lights came on dash. Gears were locked up and had to manually put in neutral to get on tow truck. Car is at Honda dealership in cumming GA. Said I needed steering wheel cable, srs unit, safety restraints unit, & brake boosters. They put parts on. Did same thing to them as it did in my driveway. Horn & smoke & all!! now they say it needs steering wheel & the harness is on back order until August 28! and that my VIN # is not on the recall but I believe it should be. This car could have caused a fire and was parked beside my house. My family and I were at risk and almost called police and fire department. Newborn baby, & other family members inside the home. Family members disconnected the battery because horn was so loud. All these repairs are headed towards $9000 & this is insane. This is my only vehicle. I must have transportation!.
