1 Automatic Transmission Cooler problem of the 2002 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 07/30/2003

Problems concerning with a/t shift cable. Consumer question whether or not dirt could cause the cable to slip, rather than the corrosion concept identified in the recall. Consumer believes the park gear should not have allowed her vehicle to move while in park. Consumer first experienced this failure when she pulled into her garage, and parked the vehicle. After she exited the vehicle, she seen it roll backwards. She jumped into the vehicle and applied the brakes. Unfortunately, the moving door jammed into the side of the garage. She pulled it away from the garage wall and parked it again in its original place. At this point she noticed the door and the garage sustained damage. In addition, consumer noted the garage has a little slope. The next day, the serviceman knew what had happened when the consumer went the get the door repaired. Consumer was told to order the parts and she did. The door had scratches, dents and damages to the vinyl molding. Consumer was informed by others to check for recalls. She did find that there was a recall for this defect. Consumer was told to use the park brake until the recall was performed. She requested that Honda absorb the cost to restore the vehicle in the "as new" state it was in since the damage was due to a mechanical failure.
