While parking my car as I was trying to straighten it out on reverse the break pedal sunk to the floor. I immediately stepped on emergency brake put it in park, noticed fluid puddle on right front side. Walked to auto mech a block away . They picked up car next day since I was afraid to drive it ,. Front brake hose was torn from wear out . Asked mechanic what caused it , claimed the hose is not long enough and when turning creates tension should talk to Honda and in his 20 yrs. Exp. Didn't see this and that I was lucky I wasn't on highway ,when asked if he used a longer hose he said there's only 1 type for this vehicle took. . Usually use highways due to my job but thankfully I was off that day.

Suddenly, when braking, the pedal went almost all the way to the floor and braking was effected by using the emergency brake. After some trouble shooting determined that it was the brake proportioning valve and brake lines that had gotten so rusty here in vermont and due to its designed exposure that they failed. All at once, not gradually. The agency that repaired my damage said that a 2003 crv failed the state inspection due to rusty frame damage. The NHTSA should specify that brake lines and fittings should be made of stainless or brass. I have heard stories from many saying that they had to replace brake lines,.

Not a complaint. Information only. My 1999 Honda crv is a great car with only minimal normal repairs. During a panic stop in a 45 mph speed zone I broke a brake line going to the right front wheel and was within millimeters of creaming the car in front of me. When I finally got the car to a mechanic it was found that the line had been rubbing on the frame and became weakened and had broken under the extra pressure. Warning: have your mechanic check your brake lines to insure they are not rubbing on something that will weaken them and cause them to fail when you really, really need them. Signed: happy Honda owner.
