36 Differential Unit problem of the 2005 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 09/03/2008

This is a problem in the rear differential system in Honda crv 4-wheel drive model made between 2002 and 2007. After about every one and a half years, the differential fluid becomes so much contaminated that the whole vehicle starts to shake. According to the vehicle's owner manual, the differential fluid only needs to be changed every 5 years or 90,000 miles. Obviously the differential fluid becomes dirty too soon. When this happens, it is difficult to make a turn. I consider it unsafe. As I know, it is the problem to all vehicles of the same model not only my car. So I think it is a design problem. In my case, the rear differential system had to be reflushed three times and the rear differential clutches had to be burnish as well. Luckily, no injury so far.

37 Differential Unit problem of the 2007 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 07/01/2008

Tl the contact owns a 2007 Honda Cr-v. While driving 35 mph, the vehicle shuddered and vibrated without warning. The vehicle was taken to don jacobs Honda (2699 regency rd, lexington, ky 40503, (859) 276-5555) where the oil, plates, and rear differential were replaced; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that the differential fluid needed to be replaced. The current mileage was 53,352 and failure mileage was 53,000. Update 06/10/08 updated 06/10/08.

39 Differential Unit problem of the 2005 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 02/05/2008

Three years from date of purchase, at 28486 miles, my Honda crv was taken to the dealer for service. I mentioned noise when making turns if the car was cold. The dealer said the car needed the differential fluid replaced and the differential clutches burnished, (as per bulletin). My maintenance manual recommends this at 5 years or 90,000 miles. I read that other drivers have had the same problem. I was not charged, because the car had 5 days left on the initial warranty. I assume this is some kind of manufacturing defect.

40 Differential Unit problem of the 2005 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 12/19/2007

When driving at a low rate of speed when making turns, the 2005 Honda crv grinds or chatters due to a problem with the rear differential (according to the dealer here in blacksburg,va). I was told a service bulletin exists for this problem but have been unable to find it. I was told it would cost $150 to fix. My vehicle has 40,000m on it.

41 Differential Unit problem of the 2005 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 04/15/2007

When driving at a low rate of speed or making turns, the 2005 Honda crv would grind or chatter due to either incorrect fluid or incorrect clutch clearance. Bulletin exists for newer models with no service charges for this service.

42 Differential Unit problem of the 2006 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 03/01/2007

I have had an odd sound coming from the rear differential of my Honda Cr-v. The dealer said after the first change of the fluid the sound would go away but it has come back over and over again. They refuse to pay for the rear differential fluid change and I understand that this is an ongoing problem with 2006 Cr-v's.

43 Differential Unit problem of the 2002 Honda CR-V

Failure Date: 01/04/2004

Whining noise while car is decelerating. Occurs at approximately 45 mph and continues until stop. Mechanic stated it was rear differential--fluid was drained and flushed and replaced without a change in noise. Honda wants to try new tires before they'll change the differential. Car is a 2002 Honda crv ex 4wd.

44 Differential Unit problem of the 1997 Honda CR-V

Consumer cited the poor or lack of service by the dealership as well as the poor quality of his vehicle. The consumer had several problems with the vehicle. When the consumer took the vehicle to the dealer for a routine oil change, the cap was not tightened properly which caused a significant oil leak. The vehicle failed to start on another occasion, it was determined that the fuel pump failed, which has since failed again. The vehicle had a flat tire, when the consumer went to change the tire, she noticed the vehicle did not have a jack. The timing belt was replaced, however when the consumer proceeded to drive there was a strange noise coming from under the hood, the consumer discovered the belt tensioner was not properly adjusted. The parking brake was adjusted. The transmission did not shift properly, the rear differential fluid was replaced, the right cv boot was leaking and the turn signals did not cancel.
