I recently turned the vehicle from one side to the other quickly. The steering seemed to fail (got very hard) then recovered after a few seconds. I took the car in for warranty service with a few other problems at west hills Honda in bremerton, wa. They took care of one problem, but couldn't adjust the misaligned glove box and most disconcerting of all, could not fix the steering problem. They actually did replicate the same problem I had. They said they also replicated it on other Odyssey's. They called Honda engineers and were told that the power steering pump could not keep up with the demand, but it is normal and there is no fix necessary!.

Power steering pump noise. Led to harder steering during cold temperatures. Two instances:
1) outside temp 20f degrees trying to make a u-turn in front of my house, had to use more force and effort than normal to stay in the u-turn. Would have been a dangerous situation if there were cars on either side of the street. 2) outside temp below 30f degrees. Drove to the mall 20 minutes away on the highway. When entering the parking lot the power steering pump noise was loud. As I tried to park in between two cars, encountered a slight increase in effort to direct the van properly and without hitting the cars on either side into the parking space. Would have been a dangerous situation if there was someone standing to get into the car on either side. These incidents occurred sometime in Dec and Jan not sure of dates, but when it was cold outside.

While traveling at 35-40 mph I rear-ended a Honda accord with my Honda Odyssey. The accord stopped at a red light.
- the contact owns a 2005 Honda Odyssey. The contact was experiencing steering problems related to recall #05v039000. While driving 50 mph the contact lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a ditch. While attempting to gain control of the steering the vehicle moved from the left to the right. The contact called the police, and was not given a police report. The mechanic replaced the tires, and stated that the failure was due to the tires. The contact advised the mechanic of the steering recall ,and he denied that it was related. None of the air bags in the vehicle deployed at the time of the collision. Recall #05v344000 was related to the air bags: frontal:sensor/control module. The drivers side door was difficult to close unless pressure was applied. The weather was not a factor. The current and failure mileage was 36,200.
Any time when ouside temp drops below 40 deg farenheight and I drive my 06 Honda Odyssey I get a loud whining at idle and accerleration but more predominantly when turning left to right. After many visits to the dealer because which they could not reproduce the noise, I finally took it in first thing in the morning when the outside temp was below 40 deg for them to verify the noise. They concluded that it was the power stering pump and ordered a new one and installed it. Three days later it was still making the noise and again the dealer could not reproduce the noise. So I again took it first thing in the am and they again confirmed the problem. They have since received a tsp bulletin on the problem and are going to try to order the necessary parts to fix my problem. This has been an ongoing problem for me for months and I will be sure to comment if this problem gets corrected.
The contact owns a 2006 Honda Odyssey. While driving approximately 15 mph, the contact heard a loud noise when the power steering failed and the steering wheel became difficult to turn. The vehicle was taken to the dealer in may 2006 and the power steering pump was replaced. In October 2010, the vehicle was taken to the dealer again because the contact heard a rattling noise under the hood. The dealer flushed the power steering system and replaced the filter and reservoir. The contact will take the vehicle to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The contact did not inform the manufacturer of the failure nor was the vehicle repaired. The current mileage was approximately 64,000. The failure mileage was approximately 15,000.
Power steering is not affective in cold weather.
