3 Steering Column problem of the 2014 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 05/23/2014

My insurance company bought this Honda Odyssey ex 2014 van for me to be modified for handicapped equipment as a replacement. It chose and delivered the van better life mobility centers of riverside 7239 indiana Ave. , riverside CA 92504 9516863152, who then disabled my steering column adjustment controls resulting in defective turn signals, horn, lights etc. No notice was given to me of such disabling of these safety equipment and they simply left the control for the "tilt & telescopic steering column" in a plastic bag on the console. Honda cars of corona (888) 568-0582 informed me that no warranty or servicing or diagnosing of this car would be made by Honda because it had been modified for handicapped driving which voided all warranty of any shape or form. It appears that "better life mobility" has not complied with federal regulations in the disabling of my steering column, turn signals, etc. Please investigate this business and their conduct. The total cost of this van was $34,547. 53 before modifications and now is unsafe to drive until diagnostic and repair of the steering column , turn signals and related safety equipment. I have driven with hand controls for over 24 years, and have never encountered anything like this. .

4 Steering Column problem of the 2007 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 10/02/2013

Approx 10/2/13 was driving on a road I travel frequently and was accelerating when suddenly my car lost power and slowed rapidly. I thought it was a fluke then on 10/11/13 I was driving a road I travel on daily when suddenly my car slowed by about 30 mph in just a few seconds. I put my foot on the brake and realized it was already engaged and was why I was slowing down. 10/16/13 - car went to dealer to be repaired. Dealer found source codes dtc 26-1 lateral acc sensor, and dtc 27-1 steering angle sensor but could not replicate and told me they did not know what the fix was. 10/17/13 - was driving on the same road as on 10/11 - clanging/grating sound in steering column and then brakes engaged, was accelerating slowly prior to this. Slowed down almost to a stop, then slowly accelerated again. Within a quarter of a mile it happened again (was driving slower at this time b/c I was worried it would happen again), this time the triangle w/ the exclamation point on it flickered (this is the first time it came on, all other times no lights or anything). Taking it back to dealer tomorrow but unless it happens to them was told there was nothing they could do. Repeatedly told them of the investigation but they said they don't know the fix. Thankfully no one was behind me during these occurrences but if they had there would have been an accident due to how fast the car decelerated.

5 Steering Column problem of the 2000 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 07/28/2013

We were driving down the road and noticed a small wisp of smoke coming from the steering column. We exited the highway and took the plastic cover off the steering column and investigated. Seeing no more smoke we figured a fuse had blown or some such and took a short break from driving. We got back in the van and started off down the highway and for 30 miles or so no problems. Suddenly we noticed the smoke again but this time there was a small cigarette lighter type flame coming from the turn signal box on the column. We immediately exited the next exit and parked on the exit ramp. We tried mango juice to extinguish the fire which worked for a short time but then the fire was back. We called 911 and before the fire department could get there (approx. 2-3 minutes) the small little flame had grown to consume the entire car in flames. The car was totally demolished by the fire.

Failure Date: 04/28/2006

2004, Honda Odyssey- steering column busted, vechicle was unable to switch from drive to park, which leaves you in dangerous situation because you have a running vechile that you can not stop. For those of you have a similiar vechile it means the rear passenger doors do not open. This is not a good situation when you have your children in the back of a moving car with no way out. The 1st attempt at a Honda service center was pleasant and the problem was thought to be corrected, however the 2nd time not so good. I was treated very poorly my situation was not handled appropriately. After 5 hours at a service center I had to bring my vechicle to another center simply I am in the process of writing a letter to Honda. I am very concerned about the saftey of my family.
