3 Steering Is Tight problem of the 2007 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 05/30/2016

The power steering pump in my Honda Odyssey 2007 is poorly constructed. It was giving me trouble since the beginning, but recently, the steering wheel is very hard to turn and it often gets stuck. I took it to my local midas for investigation and they are estimating the repairs due to the power steering pump needs to be replaced. The estimated charge for repair is about $870. Honda says that it's eligible for a recall repair until 2014, but they did not send me a letter or notification regarding the recall. When american Honda was contacted, they asked me to contact the service manager in my local dealership because the dealership is supposed to inform me about the recall. I called the service manager but no reply received. I am driving a unsafe vehicle with two small children and I cant afford such costly repairs.

4 Steering Is Tight problem of the 2007 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 05/06/2016

Steering wheel is hard to turn quickly at low speeds, and while at parking. I knew that was a problem in 2010 in thousand of these vehicle, which Honda replaced the part, with two efforts, after being supplied with wrong part in the past. I took my car to local Honda dealer today (harsons Honda), who complained the same thing, and wants me to replace the power steering pump during my timing belt change. I ask then whether they can look for, whether my van has the correct part (which probably have), but said there is a no way to check unless I have the invoice, which I definitely have not, as I purchased from a private owner. However, the symptoms look like the same (which technician complaint due to failure in power steering pump, but did not tell anything about the part, see attached report), that it is having the same issue, which thousands of Odyssey owner faced before. I want to make sure, that it has a right part on it (even aged out), or even it is fixed; it might have gone wrong. I want this issue is to be resolved as Honda should look into this serous safety issue, which Honda also admits back in 2011 (see attached).

5 Steering Is Tight problem of the 2005 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 09/07/2015

The contact owns a 2005 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving, the steering wheel was tight and the serpentine belt fractured. In addition, the bolts fractured associated with the suspension pulleys more than twice causing a failure. The vehicle was towed more than once and taken to an independent mechanic a third time, who replaced the serpentine belt, the bolts and the pulleys. The independent mechanic checked with the manufacturer on the oem parts that had been ordered and they stated that the bolts were newly designed but provided no resolution on why the bolts prematurely fractured three times. The independent mechanic repaired the vehicle. The contact was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 05v039000 (steering). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was not available.

6 Steering Is Tight problem of the 2008 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 11/14/2014

I purchased this 2008 Honda Odyssey in 2011, with approximately 45,000 miles on it. During the winter of 2013, I began to experience groaning (and sometimes "humming") noises from the power steering system. Additionally, the steering wheel was hard to turn at low speeds. I assumed the vehicle was low on fluids so with every oil change (at the Honda dealership) , I insisted the power steering fluid be filled. The Honda dealer was not able to identify any noises. However, last night on the way home from work at approximately 10pm, the noise re-appears. The steering issue is now following the noise making it difficult to steer the vehicle resulting in a safety issue in operating the vehicle. I know I share these concerns with other Honda Odyssey owners and our complaints are falling on deaf ears with the dealers. I really want to see these concerns addressed before someone gets hurt.

7 Steering Is Tight problem of the 2007 Honda Odyssey

8 Steering Is Tight problem of the 2006 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 01/06/2014

While there is already a Honda service bulletin issued concerning problem (bulletin #: 11-039). The response by Honda is not adequite. The problem is that the steering wheel is hard to turn at low speeds (such as turning into and out of parking spots). Although this defect with the power steering pump only occurs at low speeds it it still a safety issue. The fact that is is very hard to turn the sterring wheel can reasonable lead to pedestrian accident such as pedestrian becoming pinned against a car. Honda extended the warrenty on this part to 7 years / 100,000 miles. I have under 80,000 miles on my car but Honda claims I am a few months beyond the 7 year date. Honda should be required to further extend this warranty as many people will not be able to afford this expensive repair and it could leave to injury to persons in parking lots.

The contact owns a 2012 Honda Odyssey. While the vehicle was reversing or in drive, there was an abnormal noise and the econo drive warning indicator flashed. The vehicle was taken to several independent mechanics, but the failure could not be replicated or diagnosed. In addition, the vehicle was taken to a dealer (garden state Honda, 225 river dr, passaic, NJ 07055, (973) 777-1600) where the steering wheel was tightened, but the dealer did not specify a remedy and was unable to replicate the failure when the dtc was not shown. 13 Steering Is Tight problem of the 2006 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 04/19/2011

I received a letter from the american Honda dated summer 2011, regarding the warranty extension of the "steering wheel is hard to turn at low speeds and engine rpm. " the term is up to 7 years or 100,000 miles. I bought my van in August of 2006, however, since I drive almost 100 miles a day (home to work), I have more than 100,000. Here is my concern, I have been complaining about this said problem (regarding the steering wheels is hard to turn) in the Honda dealer in corona even before receiving this letter, but all they said that it could be related to cold weather. Later on about 4 months ago, they said the power steering pump needs to be replace. Right after I received this letter from american Honda, I gave them a call and told them that I'm already having this problem before, and that this is a known problem, but I didn't do anything about it because I was broke. I asked them if I can bring my van to the dealer to have them replace the power steering pump eventhough my mileage now is more than what they want which is 100,000 miles. They said, they can't help me because they are strict on warranty extension. And, since my mileage is now 165,000 miles, they can't help me even if the years qualifies me. They said to contact my local dealer where I bought the car and where I bring my car for repair and see if they can give me a discount to fix it. The point is it is not fair for them to set a limit on their warranty because this is an obvious factory defect. They should have covered the Odyssey 2006 regardless of the mileage because based on this letter, it is obvious that there is a lot of complains about it. I do not have the money to fix this problem, but I am hoping that by reporting this, we can consider this product defect as a recall.

14 Steering Is Tight problem of the 2006 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 12/01/2010

Tl * the contact owns a 2006 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that the power steering was hard to turn and would sporadically exhibit an abnormal noise when driving at low speeds. 15 Steering Is Tight problem of the 2006 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 09/15/2009

When driving my 2006 Honda Odyssey at speeds under 10 mph, the steering wheel is extremely hard to steer. When driving above this speed, the steering seems to be function properly.

16 Steering Is Tight problem of the 2007 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 01/01/2009

The contact owns a 2007 Honda Odyssey. The contact experienced failures numerous times with brakes, and steering. While the brakes were applied the brake pedal extended to the floor which required him to apply additional pressure to the brake pedal in order to stop the vehicle. The steering wheel was hard to control causing the vehicle to swerve from left to right. He had to apply additional force to the steering wheel in order to keep the vehicle in a straight line. The vehicle was taken to the dealership numerous times for the failures. The dealer removed air from the hydraulic fluid, but the repair didn't correct the brake failure. The wheels were aligned several times, but the steering failure wasn't corrected. The manufacturer advised the contact to take the vehicle to a different dealership. The failure mileage was 15,000 and the current mileage was 36,000.

17 Steering Is Tight problem of the 2007 Honda Odyssey

Failure Date: 07/31/2007

This is a known issue with the Honda Odyssey. The pump had been replaced 1 month into owning the van. Then it was replaced under recall because of the same issue and not it is doing it again. >100k miles but it had been reported multiple time and the issue could not be reproduced. It is a time issue. The more you drive it the worse it gets. There is a noise and the steering is hard. At low speed you can not turn(parking lots) or it is very hard to turn. When they drive it in the parking lot they would not get the noise. Honda told me to prove that the van was in the shop for an issue(they purge their records every 3 years). This is a known issue make them fix it. . .
