While driving on the highway and going 60mph or higher, the steering wheel shakes a lot when I start to brake and I have to pump my brakes rather than a slow gradual depression of the pedal like one would normally do or else the van becomes unstable. This has been the case for over a year.

Original owner of 2013 Honda Odyssey, noticed significant steering wheel vibration at 35k miles while going down or at highway speeds while slowing down unexpectedly. It made me grab the steering wheel harder to try to steady the wheels so we don't drive off the cliff. I believe it poses a danger as it creates a situation where such steering wheel vibration and tires vibration can cause a dangerous situation in which the control over vehicle could be lost along with lives of those in the car. I have just replaced the tires, which was not the cause of the vibration. The car is in good standing as all recommended services were completed timely. When contacted the local Honda dealer, they said that rotors needs to be resurfaced. But as I am reading on this site and others, this could be an endless and expensive recurrent service. This vehicle is designed to be a family vehicle, therefore it shouldn't be a standard when rotors come out of functionality as soon as vehicle is out of factory.

The steering wheel shakes when braking at highway speeds. This started at about 30,000 miles. I took the car to the dealer, and they immediately said I needed the brakes resurfaced before they even drove the car. This tells me they are aware of a recurring issue. At this point it was out of warranty at 38,000 miles because I had already purchased brand new tires thinking that was the problem. I had them align the tires that day, and the shaking did not go away. Honda needs to take responsibility and recall faulty brakes. They should not need costly repairs at this low mileage.
Whenever you press the brakes the steering wheel shakes a lot.

We bought this vehicle brand new - single owner car equiped with genuine Honda parts. The front rotors quickly and prematurely ware down causing severe braking and steering issues, mainly hard vibrations of the steering wheel and it feels like the whole car shakes and you could easily lose control if not having both hands on the steering wheel. The problem usually occurs or is most noticeable during longer road trips (after ~120 miles) once the rotors are hot and the degree of the problem is definitely worse as you drive down (decline) or up (incline) and it does not subside rather gets worse if pressure is applied to brakes going down hill. Rotors should last much longer than 16k miles. We are cautious, safe drivers and have not put a lot of miles on this car and drive mostly highway and interstate roads. The dealer temporarily fixed the problem by rotating/sanding down the rotors at 15,823 miles but now with only 31, 287 miles on it, the problem has resurfaced with the vibrations slowing getting more frequent and stronger to the point the whole steering wheel column shakes. It is very scary as the van "thumps thumps thumps" and the steering wheel shakes rapidly going down inclines and/or whilst braking. Now the dealer is saying the rotors shouldn't be rotated again and are no good, at only 31k miles, and need replaced.
Steering wheel vibrates severely when brakes are applied at highway speeds. The brakes were hot due to steep descents while mountain driving. Steering was seriously impaired due to extreme shimmying effecting the entire front end. Braking was nearly impossible.
Tl- the contact owns a 2012 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated while driving at 65 mph, when the brake pedal was depressed the steering wheel began to shake without warning. The failure has recurred several times. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle mileage was 22,000. Kb.
This vehicle has issues with excessive wheel vibration when braking at high speeds attributable to premature failure or warping of the brake rotors. I have nearly 60,000 miles on my van and have had to replace and/or turn my brake rotors about every 10,0000 to 15,000 miles. When the condition occurs, it seems to progress rapidly to the point of becoming dangerous when trying to stop at high speeds. The steering wheel shakes violently and it is difficult to control when stopping. I have searched online and have seen numerous accounts of other people with the same problem. I searched for "Honda Odyssey pulsating brakes" and got several sites listed. I added my complaint to one of the sites that had over 100 complaints. Honda should pay to have the rotors turned or replaced at regular intervals to prevent this from occurring so frequently. It is either a defect or bad design or both.

The power steering pump in our Odyssey started making a loud squealing noise, and at some later time, the steering wheel began to vibrate. The steering pump noise was intermittent, and occurred at low and idle speeds only. There was never a loss of steering capability, but the shimmy in the steering wheel leads to driver discomfort and driver fatigue. Honda has since replaced the power steering pump at a reduced cost to us, but the new pump has not solved the steering wheel shimmy. The shimmy is very similar to the effects of a bent wheel or a out of balance tire, but different wheels and different tires, in addition to multiple tire re-balances have failed to correct the problem. The steering shimmy occurs only at speeds above approximately 62 mph, and seems to occur after about 70 - 100 miles of driving. Within this driving scenario, the shimmy can get very bad, and then at times completely disappear. But for most of the time, the shimmy is present. At speeds below 55 mph, the vehicle behaves very well. I'm not sure if this problem is unique to my vehicle, or if others have experienced the same issues. If it is generic to the vehicle design, then Honda needs to provide Odyssey owners with an economical solution. Should the problem persist, I will have not choice but to sell the vehicle because, aside form the potential safety issues, it does not provide the driving comfort that we need.

When I brake driving 40mph or more, the car and the steering wheel will shake and vibrate extremely violently. This started when there was only 30k miles on the car so I took it to a dealer in TN and they said they didn't find a problem. Then at 42k miles, I took it to another dealer in va and the front rotors and pads were replaced. However, this did not fix the problem. Now the car has 70k miles and the shaking when I brake, was gotten worse. It feels like the car is out of control and not safe to drive, especially with passengers in the car. There seems to be a number of the same complaints on this site, so why hasn't there been a recall?.
Whil driving at 40 mph. The steering wheel shakes hard for about 4 sec.
2005 Honda Odyssey ex-l. Steering wheel shakes/vibrates really hard at highway speeds. We got new michelin tires, got wheel alignment and balancing and still the problem exists. Dealer keeps saying the vibrations are as per Honda's specifications, not sure what that means.
The contact owns a 2006 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving approximately 25 mpd, the power steering failed and he heard a screeching and winding noise. He took the vehicle to the dealership and was told that the power steering pump failed and needed to be replaced. Furthermore, he also noticed that when driving down hill and trying to apply the brakes, the steering wheel would shake violently. He took the vehicle to the dealership and the dealer told him that the rotors were warped and there was nothing they could do. He had not called the manufacturer to-date. The power steering pump was being repaired at the time of the complaint. The current mileage was approximately 41,000. The failure mileage was approximately 36,000.
I own a 2007 Honda Odyssey and have been having problems with my brakes for some time. They feel very soft and "spongy" when I step on them; my foot sinks all the way to the floor. There have been numerous instances where I have almost hit another vehicle because the brakes do not respond. The brakes also grind very hard and sound very loud when I come to a complete stop at the bottom of a hill. Also, when I try to stop or slow the van when traveling at high speeds (such as highway driving), my steering wheel vibrates violently. I have taken the van to the mechanic and have been told that my brake pads are fine (50% front, 60% rear), but that my rotors have worn prematurely. I also had problems with my power steering--I took the van in for service because I had a difficult time maneuvering the van in tight situations (parking)--it turns out that my power steering pump was not operating and needed to be replaced (at 36,267 miles)--267 miles over the Honda new car warranty.

Steering wheel shake at 50+ mph since new. Dealer not receptive to complaints during first few visits and recall service visits. Week of 11-12-06 dealer will test drive due to 'service bulletin' from Honda. We have been putting up with this wheel shake for two years.
Vehicle vibrates and steering wheel shake or shimmys at 70 mph and up. Dealer and tire manufacturer cannot fix.
