Steering Rack And Pinion Problems of Honda Odyssey

After 38000 miles, my steering wheel began to make a clicking/popping sound when turning at a very slow speed, I took it in and the dealer/service center said there was a service bulletin, but it wasn't a safety hazard, also said the van had a similar issue with struts (safety bulletin issued for those as well). Extremely disappointed that a vehicle with this low miles and such a good reputation for quality would have such issues and I find it hard to believe how the steering and struts are not a safety issue. Prior to these issues, my rack and pinion started leaking, which is unheard of at 35000 miles.

2007 Odyssey makes a clicking noise when turning right or left. Power steering pump was replaced last year but was told the rack and pinion steering needs to be replaced. 97,000 miles with maintenance kept up to date.

2006 Honda Odyssey. Consumer states problem with rack and pinion leakage. The consumer stated he took the vehicle to have a recall rectified regarding the steering pump. However, as time went by, he began having problems with the steering while making turns. The consumer believed the leaking rack and pinion was related to the steering pump as they were integrated.

Vehicle was hard to steer at low speeds also during cold weather we hear a loud whining noise coming from the power steering pump. Took the vehicle to the Honda dealer where we were told the power steering pump was bad. They replaced the pump and told us if we hear the whining noise again it is probably the power steering resovior which was not replaced. There is also a popping sound in the steering which they say is the rack and pinion and it needs to be replaced. Now the vehicle is not under warranty anymore but before the warranty had expired we had taken the vehicle to the dealer to diagnose the popping noise but was told they could not find anything wrong. Magically now they have found the problem. With them now wanting to charge $2000 to fix it. The vehicle only has 54000 miles and should not be having this much trouble. I have never owned a vehicle needing this much work this soon. Although I do love my vehicle I can honestly say I am having doubts of ever owning another one. If they know there is a problem they should fix the problem.

The contact owns a 2006 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that the vehicle was parked and as the steering wheel was turned, it exhibited an abnormal whining and became difficult to turn. The failure progressed and would occur whether the vehicle was parked or in motion. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that there was a rack and pinion leak. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 37,000 and the current mileage was 42,000.

Since I bought the minivan Odyssey new it had trouble with the rack and pinion, it was replaced under the warranty but up to this date still has problems, I have gone back to the dealer and they have told me it got a loose screw but when I turn the steering wheel it gives a knocking sound.

Honda 2007 with broken rack and pinion with a strong hard sound upon steering wheel either to the right or left and leakage of motor oil due to failure of seal gasket. The car dealer is asking permission to american Honda so that part could be replace and it will take 2 weeks for an answer(ridicule) and meanwhile I am driving the vehicle.
