Power steering pump went out making it hard to turn. It started with an occasional ticking noise and then gradually got harder to make turns. No more ticking noise now just hard to turn. I have actually screamed like someone power lifting trying to get into a parking space!.

Following a service in which my timing belt, serpentine belt, water pump, and power steering pump were changed, the tensioner bolt was sheared off twice while I was driving. The first time that this happened, the mechanic reported that he had never seen this particular problem before. The second time that the bolt was sheared off (both events were within a week of the servicing), the mechanic informed me that he had done research and this seemed to have happened to numerous Honda Odyssey owners. As state above, this has happened twice in the past week while I was driving, once on a ramp, entering the interstate and once turning right onto a main road from a parking lot.

Purchased my van used in 2012. It had a steering issue but I was new to the feel of Honda handling and thought it was ok and normal. I have had increasing issues with my capability to steer. There was an extended warranty recall on the power steering pump and reservoir but the previous owner of my van did not have it serviced. I called Honda and they said it is passed warranty and cannot absorb the cost of the repair. I say, that since the problem was never fixed while under warranty, it should be fixed now because Honda new about the problem while the time frame still obligated them to fix the problem. I am having difficulty steering my van, turning the van, with children in it, and so this is a safety issue that needs attention because it was not addressed and fixed when Honda should have fixed it.
I have a power steering problem, I noticed it when I was driving and especially at slow speeds when trying to turn the steering wheel it's very hard and it could be very dangerous! I went to the dealership for an oil change they told me I needed a power steering pump this was December 13th 2016 I noticed that I am not the only owner that has this problem with this vehicle in the power steering issue this needs to be addressed very soon this is a very expensive issue! it will definitely be replaced because I have inspection coming up but it surely should be addressed!.
Loss of power steering when turning at low speeds. At times, there are very scary sounds coming from the power steering pump. This is going on for a while and my local dealer refused to service it under the warranty.
Power steering completely went out in less than 24 hours after purchasing vehicle with 14 miles on it. Vehicle lost fluid again and started making odd noises a little over 24 hours after the power steering pump and fluid replaced. Honda technical reported defect is extensive and fluid has been spraying all over the engine and has compromised the firewall and the fluid over the interior of the vehicle. Van is still in the shop waiting for issue to be fixed (2/4/16).

The contact owns a 2005 Honda Odyssey. While driving approximately 25 mph, the steering wheel became difficult to turn without warning. The failure recurred each time the vehicle was driven. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and was diagnosed that the power steering pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 126,000.
I have owned six Honda Odyssey's and the last three starting with the 2007 model all needed to have a new power steering pump because it starts to whine and not pump well. Previous models have all failed under warranty. I currently have a 2013 Odyssey that has 41000 miles on it and once again the pump started e steering has given out twice in the last week. It is random and without warning all of a sudden I can't steer without great effort. I about got hit the first time as I was turning around on a main road and the steering just quit, no power steer at all. It usually recovers quickly but if I were not an experienced driver I would have been in two accidents because of this problem already. Honda will not replace their known defective pump under warranty because the car has over 36k miles. I think Honda should replace the defective pump under warranty as this is not a new issue for them and I personally have had two of these vehicles since 2007 that have had a bad pump. This is a serious safety issue and perhaps Honda needs some government help to be forced to deal with this issue that continues to plague their vehicles with a dangerous situation that needs corporate action to remedy.

When maneuvering in low mileage areas, I. E. Driveways, parking lots, my power steering pump does not assist well, if at all. The vehicle makes a noise similar to an rc car with a dying battery and the steering wheel is almost impossible for me to move. In order to get out of a parking space, it can take me up to 10 or so moves because I cannot get the wheel to turn properly.
The contact owns a 2007 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving approximately 70 mph, the power steering assist exhibited a loud noise. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, who diagnosed that the reservoir steering pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 114,000.
Appears that there is an o ring issue on this year Honda Odyssey. Air is getting in the power steering pump/lines causing a whining during turns and acceleration. This is an issue that warrants a "TSB" to the mechanics and service industry, however, Honda has yet to announce a recall or offer assistance in the matter. This is our second Honda. . . We drove an accord to 246k miles and are big Honda fans. Hate that there is a known issue and no recall.

Last fall my power steering would go out when I was decelerating or reversing started to be difficult to turn. The van would make a terrible noise when idling and you would turn the vehicle and I noticed it seemed to only be when the weather was cold. I had an auto shop evaluate it and flush it as well as place a dye to see if it was leaking and it wasn't. I went in for a recall just recently and the dealership stated I should just replace the power steering pump even though they don't know what's wrong with it. This is a known problem as multiple online consumer complaint sites have listed this problem. My concern is that if I have to drive in icy conditions to which I will have to decelerate I will have problems with steering which is not safe for myself, my children and other drivers.
I was not aware that Honda had a recall on the power steerig pump. I have had this problem for over a year. My local dealer (autoparks Honda, cary, nc) is telling me that the recall is over and the extended recall is over so they cannot fix it at no cost to me. I don't understand why Honda will not replace the power steering pump when there was a recall on this part. It is still very hard to turn the steering wheel. I really like my Odyssey and I would like to see Honda stand behind their recalls.
Groaning sound from power steering system and steering wheel hard to turn at low speeds. Took vehicle to Honda dealer knowing other 2006 Honda Odysseys had power steering problems and that the warranty on just the power steering pump had been extended to 7 years and 100,000 miles. I hoped the issue was just the power steering pump and that the warranty would cover it. Of course not! the problem is apparently in the steering rack and will require $1,200+ in repairs for a new one or the van will be a safety issue. I'm very suspicious that they have an extended warranty on the pump but not on the steering rack. Since I don't want to lose steering while driving and cause an accident, I am forced to have this defective part repaired at my own cost. With only 55,000 miles on the van, this is not the kind of safety or quality I would have expected from Honda.
2006 Honda Odyssey. Consumer states problem with rack and pinion leakage. The consumer stated he took the vehicle to have a recall rectified regarding the steering pump. However, as time went by, he began having problems with the steering while making turns. The consumer believed the leaking rack and pinion was related to the steering pump as they were integrated.
Lack of power steering. We bought this van at the end of September, 2012. We noticed this issue within a few days of owning it. This continues to be an on-going issue and is happening at various speeds and at various times. Not just in parking lots. This happens when slowing down to make turns in normal driving settings. It also happens when driving into round-abouts. This is a very serious safety issue! I tried to contact Honda via email once we began to notice it and got no reply. I have looked at different complaint websites and see this a lot. Recently, with the fuel pump recall, I called into Honda directly regarding the fuel pump. During the call, I described this steering issue to the rep. She said Honda knows of it and what they did was to extend the original warranty on the vehicles to 100,000 miles to repair it. However, it was not repaired in all vehicles. The issue is that periodically the power steering system stops working and you must manually turn the steering wheel. We have several children in our family. It is scary to know that the steering could cause a serious accident & cause serious injury or death. Many highways now have round-abouts at the exits. Many towns & cities are putting in round-abouts for traffic flow. I have been noticing this issue when coming into round-abouts at various speeds. The NHTSA needs to get involved and get Honda to recall these before serious injury or death occurs. Thank you.
Car is sometimes almost impossible to steer. Has been reported to dealer numerous times. Finally had the steering pump replaced for $271. 77, this after they had replaced it previously under warrantee. So have had three steering pumps in this car and sometimes cannot move the wheel enough to get out of parking spot or garage. Local dealer refuses to address the problem.
Power steering pump high whining noise and a times - low speeds, parking - steering difficult to operate at times.

Vehicle was hard to steer at low speeds also during cold weather we hear a loud whining noise coming from the power steering pump. Took the vehicle to the Honda dealer where we were told the power steering pump was bad. They replaced the pump and told us if we hear the whining noise again it is probably the power steering resovior which was not replaced. There is also a popping sound in the steering which they say is the rack and pinion and it needs to be replaced. Now the vehicle is not under warranty anymore but before the warranty had expired we had taken the vehicle to the dealer to diagnose the popping noise but was told they could not find anything wrong. Magically now they have found the problem. With them now wanting to charge $2000 to fix it. The vehicle only has 54000 miles and should not be having this much trouble. I have never owned a vehicle needing this much work this soon. Although I do love my vehicle I can honestly say I am having doubts of ever owning another one. If they know there is a problem they should fix the problem.
The contact owns a 2007 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while traveling various speeds, the vehicle became difficult to steer. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was found that the power steering pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 45,000. Updated 02/11/lj.
2007 - 2010 Honda Odyssey owners are targeted to receive notification of a "warranty extension" to replace the power steering pump under certain conditions. I received the notice for my 2007 Honda Odyssey, suffered with the "hard to turn" condition (see TSB 10-076) and associated pump whining noise that is described in TSB 07-005 (defective pump reservoir). Although the pump was extended warranty replaced at university motors (missoula) I was required to pay for the replacement of the reservoir ($66. 08). My understanding is that the reservoir defect is what causes the pump to fail. I believe that a recall should be required and all owners that have been required to pay for the reservoir (or pump) should be 100% reimbursed. American Honda automobile refused to reimburse for this replacement stating that the extended warranty applies only to the pump. Please review huge complaint data base.
Over a period of a few years the steering pump has been replaced three times and one more time for the prior owner. 4 steering pumps and once again the pump is failing. The car has less then 100000 miles on it and yet Honda is failing to fix the steering pump that they said they were extending a 100000 mile warranty on. The pumps are all lemons and just continue to fail one after another. Its ridiculous that 4 pumps have failed on the same car over a few years. Obviously there is something more to this then a steering pump.
Failure of serpentine belt tensioner pulley shaft resulted in loss of power steering control following engine start in a parking lot. This failure occurred a few days after the car was serviced for replacement of timing belt and water pump, which required removal and reinstallation of the tensioner pulley. The question is whether the shaft failure was the result of overtorque following the service, or the result of a design or manufacturing problem. The concern is a failure in traffic rather than at low speed in a parking lot. This shaft is available for inspection.
Have chronically reported excessive force needed to turn steering wheel at low speeds. Correction: Honda is requesting that I flush power steering pump and change the reservoir.
Every time it is raining and car goes through a puddle the battery light comes on and the car looses power steering. Has happened numerous times and when going to the dealership I was told that they could not duplicate the problem because it was not raining at the time. They stated they could replace the power steering pump & reservoir and it might fix the problem. This is very dangerous and seems to be happening on quite a few of the Honda vehicles. I know another person who owns they exact same model and year and they are experiencing the same problem. Last few times it rained power steering went out 5-7 times during a 20 min drive so the number of times is increasing.
Driving on 2 lane highway with my 3 kids in the van. The battery light comes on and I hear a few brief clunks from engine area. Then I realize I have no power steering so I stop quickly at a safe spot. I look at the engine and see the accessory belt that drives power steering pump, alternator, and a/c is loose. I see that the outer ring on the crankshaft pulley is missing and only see rubber on its outside. It's over 100 deg. F outside and we're 10 miles from anything. I call a few towing companies and find one that can show up within an hour. We wait and also get a hold of a friend to pick us up after the tow truck shows up. They tow it to our local Honda dealer. The dealer replaces the crankshaft pulley and drive belt. Towing was $153. 40 and repair at dealer was $349. 56. Losing power steering on narrow two lane highway going 55 mph is unsafe and the crankshaft pulley should not fail even at 111k miles. I have owned the van since new and have all proper maintenance done (preventatively replaced accessory belt before and timing belt and water pump).
I am a owner of Honda Odyssey 2007. We start to hear noise around 2008 winter after highway driving. Then, we begin to experience the difficulty to turn wheel occasionally between 2008 to 2010. In 2011, the difficulty of turning wheel become more frequent at low speed, but managable. In June 2011, we experinced difficulty to turn wheel during a trip on highway driving. This incident made us to aware the problem of power steering pump. After searching the website, many Honda Odyssey owners complained the same problem and mentioned that Honda installed the problematic power steering pump for their car since 2004, therefore a service bulletin 10-076 was announced by Honda. Please consider a recall service from Honda to protect Honda owners' safety during highway driving. Thanks.
We first became aware of the problem with our Odyssey when the low-speed steering (e. G. Navigating parking spaces) became very difficult, as if the power steering were off. We took it to the dealer and they said they cleaned the power steering system as per a service bulletin. About two months later we noticed that after driving the van for at least approximately 20 miles, the power steering pump made an audible hum or whirring that could be heard at low speeds. The noise would change pitch along with the engine. Sometimes, the low-speed steering would again be difficult, but not to the same extreme as before and far less often. When we took it back to the dealer they reported that a seal was broken in the steering rack and that the pump also had to be replaced. We were told that not replacing both these items, at a cost of $2500. 00, could lead to power steering loss and cause a dangerous situation. So we had no choice but to replace these items even though the van only had 50,000 miles on it when the problem first became noticeable.
Consumer states ongoing problem/defect with a Honda Odyssey concerning front wheels wobbling and vehicle jerking the consumer stated the wobble from the front wheels was most noticeable at low speed turns. The consumer stated when he hit the slightest bump, the wobble could be felt in the steering wheel. After turning a corner, and the steering wheel was released, the steering wheel returned to straight forward with a series of jerks. The dealer was unable to provide a remedy even though there were complaints from other customers. The consumer stated he returned to the dealer regarding problems with the brakes. The service writer informed the consumer there was a weakness in the hydraulic brake system and the master cylinder would have to be replaced. The consumer learned of a recall, but records showed it was never replaced. On may 21, 2010, the modulator and sealing caps were replaced. On January 19, 2011, the dealer installed a master cylinder repair kit. The remedies showed little to no improvement. The consumer stated after not using the brakes for a few miles, he would have to pump the brakes several times, in order to stop, because the pedal would go to the floor.
The contact owns a 2007 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving 30 mph the power steering failed making it difficult to turn the steering wheel. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer regarding the power steering pump and was advised that the power steering pump and reservoir needed to be replaced. The contact has not had the power steer pump nor the reservoir replaced. The contact stated that this was a known failure with this year, make and model vehicle. The failure mileage was 60,298. Updated 03/29/11 updated 03/30/11.
The contact owns a 2008 Honda Odyssey. The contact was driving approximately between 15-20 mph making a turn when the steering wheel began to make a loud noise. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who informed her that the power steering pump needed to be replaced. 2005 Odyssey - power steering was getting difficult to manage - took to an independent shop and had power steering pump replaced at 49,000 miles. Now at 79,000 miles the power steering turns off sporadically but will then be back on if you restart the van.
The contact owns a 2005 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that when driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle would exhibit an abnormal humming noise intermittently when depressing the brakes. The contact inspected the vehicle and discovered that the abnormal noise was coming from the power steering pump. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 30,000.
