Airbag light is on so I took it to local dealer. They told me the issue was with my driver's side seat belt and they would have to run more tests to pin point the problem. Of course these test we're not free of charge so I declined them. They informed me that neither airbags would deploy in an accident. How this issue is not covered blows me away.

40 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2007 Hyundai Accent

Failure Date: 03/03/2017

Regarding NHTSA reference # 1088179: my air bag light started staying on around February 2017. I made appointment on phone with only Hyundai certified service dealer near my home 3-2017and drove to chico (70 miles away). They said it must be battery and charged me for a new battery. I called them around April 1, 2017 telling them light was still coming on and they said I would have to buy a whole new seat and system, no safety issue recognized by Hyundai, therefore I would be responsible to entire cost regardless of safety issues. I called Hyundai USA which gave me a case # 1012618 but said there is no recall on file with Hyundai and I could file a complaint with NHTSA. I am sending them a copy of what I am filing with you. I looked up other Hyundai Accent 2007 complaints and Hyundai said there's not enough to make a recall. A local auto repair agreed to replace items for my paid invoice amount enclosed. I'm filing this now because I don't want to be a statistic for seat belt failure or faulty air bag deployment and maybe help someone else.

Failure Date: 12/05/2016

Air bag light is on with code b1517, and b1448. Shop is unable to determine whether airbag will deploy or not. How many people have to complain about the same issue before something is done about it? I've read multiple complaints over the same issue. If an air bag doesn't deploy that could most definitely be fatal.

50 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2005 Hyundai Accent

Failure Date: 10/15/2015

"airbag" indicator came on when vehicle was started up and didn't go out. Has been on for 3 months. This 2006 Accent that has thrown the b1448 code (oc sensor mat defect). A recall for the Hyundai sonata (NHTSA campaign id number: 08v161000) which uses the same components in it's airbag sensory system has been issued for same code. Similar complaints have been reported for the Accent on this site and arfc. Org. Repairs or replacement of the sensor range from $800 - $1100. Not issuing a recall for all vehicles using the same faulty components as the recalled sonata is completely immoral. Recall should be issued.

Failure Date: 12/22/2014

Red airbag light on the dashboard is on. I had the Hyundai dealership diagnose the problem, they told me that the air bag sensor pad in the front passenger seat went bad. They said the seat base would have to be replaced and that it would be $822. 82 for parts + 1. 5 hours labor for a total $985. 00. It seems very odd that the passenger seat airbag sensor would go bad in my car because I hardly ever have a passenger.

62 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2008 Hyundai Accent

Failure Date: 08/04/2014

At approximately 67,000. Mi the airbag light came on, had an auto parts store scan the code and said it was passenger seat sensor, at the time I used the car for commuting to work and never had passengers. Now retired and cannot have a passenger for fear that being involved in an accident could be deadly for the occupant of that seat, went to the dealer and was told its not covered under warranty, ( I'm second owner ) and the seat alone would cost at least $900. Plus installation would be about $1200. Or more on a fixed income and cannot afford that, cannot sell the car it lowers the resale, and who would want it. Guess I'm stuck.

64 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2008 Hyundai Accent

Failure Date: 06/02/2014

About a year ago the air bag light came on for few days for no reason, then it came off. Now the air bag is back on for good, it started up again since July and is still on. We have not been in an accident for it to cause for the air bag light to come back on. I called to see if I can get it repair, the gentleman said it will cost more about $1,000 or more to check it and get it repair. I do not want to pay that much, but my son's safety is my concern. I feel like all the sudden everything with this car is falling apart. Sun visor and now airbag. . .

65 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2009 Hyundai Accent

Failure Date: 05/16/2014

I have taken my pre-owned, certified vehicle into the dealer 3 separate times because the air bag light on the console comes on and will not reset. Each time I have had to pay a diagnostic fee and have the codes reset. The last visit on may 16, 2014 I was told that if it happens again, they will repair and replace the seat sensors. I am now out the diagnostic fee ($89) each time I go in. This is clearly a safety issue as you don't know if it is functioning properly or the air bag will deploy if someone is in the passenger seat.

70 Air Bag Light On problem of the 2009 Hyundai Accent

Failure Date: 12/12/2013

Our airbag light went on at the dashboard, and a dealer informed us that the all the sensors on the passenger side airbag had failed. We were told that it would cost almost $1,000 to fix this, and that the parts alone were over $700. We are one 1 month 16 days , and less than 10,000 miles past he 60000 limit for the warranty. I have spoken with Hyundai repeatedly to have them pay for the cost of replacing this key safety device, which has failed due to no fault of our own. Hyundai, and the dealer refuse to accept responsibility for an obvious defect in these crucial safety sensors. Hyundai promotes their service and safety, but has a real problem with passenger air bag sensor failure, and the company will not accept responsibility for its own defects.
