36 Car Stall problem of the 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 06/29/2018

I was driving on the interstate on Friday, June 29, 2018 in my 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe limited 3. 3l v6 and all of a sudden I hear something similar to a shotgun going off & my car began to stall and I noticed smoke & flames from the sideview mirrors as I couldn't see out of the rearview mirror. Luckily no one behind me was injured behind me since engine parts & smoke from the oil pouring out on the side of the block. Once I was able to pull over on the exit ramp I noticed my vehicle was on fire & luckily I was able to extinguish the flames. I called a wrecker service & upon further inspection I noticed a big gaping hole in the engine block. My car was taken to the local dealership crenshaw Hyundai on July 3, where it has remained & no one has contacted me since. I have contacted them on several occasions & have met with the service manager who advised me that Hyundai instructed his team to inspect the vehicle for negligence on my behalf which they did not find and was backed up by all service records.

42 Car Stall problem of the 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 04/01/2018

First problem, gas gauge stopped working. Fluctuated up and down, then would read empty right after filling the tank. Had to have 2 sensors and fuel pump changed. Very expensive!! now the car stalls when slowing down. Every morning when I leave for work it stalls at least once, it has started back up, but this morning the motor felt very groggy and I did not feel safe in driving it anymore. Took it home. I've brought it to mechanics and it never dies for them and they can not find anything wrong with it, did it two more times after that, taking it tonight to see if they can figure it out. This is extremely unsafe!! it died the first time in the middle of the street! I was so afraid someone was going to run into the back of me! this is a huge problem and all over the internet with other Santa Fe owners for this year. I want Hyundai to step up to the plate and recall these cars! they are unsafe!!!.

44 Car Stall problem of the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 02/13/2018

The Santa Fe sport was purchased in July of 2017. When taking off from a redlight or while driving at a steady momentum on the road, the acceleration drops significantly and the rpms begin to rev up high, bouncing up and down, but the Santa Fe sport will stall. While on the highway, the issue continues and panic sents in due to the cars behind us can rear end the Santa Fe sport. No matter how far or hard the gas pedal is pressed the Santa Fe sport will stall. All while no "engine light" turns on. Took the Santa Fe sport for service to the dealer over 6 times between 2017 and 2018 and only an ems part was replaced. The problem continues mostly in very bad traffic, again very concerning for safety. The Santa Fe sport needs to be turned off and back on in order for the problem to cease. No matter what drive mode it is in (eco; sport; normal) the issue persists. We purchased a brand new 2017 Santa Fe sport right off the lot which has been paid for and it is unfair that we are still paying what seems like our lives we continue to spend more with gas, tolls, travel and time from work to take the Santa Fe sport in for service and we do not get refunded for this.

45 Car Stall problem of the 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 02/09/2018

2009 Hyundai Santa Fe v6 3. 3 liter has experienced occasional, random stalling over a few years, always while braking and often while turning. The problem seems to happen after a period of steady speed driving and then slowing down and turning. When this happens, the vehicle steering instantly gets very difficult and braking ability likewise becomes increasingly difficult. After putting the vehicle in neutral, or pulling over and parking the vehicle, it will always start right back up and run fine. The throttle position sensor has been replaced but the problem persists. I am a 50 year old man who can wrestle the car to safety (so far), but my wife, children, or others may not be so fortunate. There are repeated mentions of other Hyundai vehicles with similar problems, and these mostly mention a tps replacement and an accompanying ecu firmware update. There are no apparent recalls or tsbs with Hyundai that affect this vehicle and engine combination, and this is a huge safety problem for which there appears to be a remedy path.

46 Car Stall problem of the 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 01/28/2018

This vehicle has a problem with stalling and hesitation when coming out of turns and at speeds between 60-80 mph. I have mention this to the dealer several times and they continue to say they cannot find anything wrong. Because there is never any lights on and no codes. This is a very bad problem someone is going to get hurt from this or die from this. But no one will know because the symptom will not show up as a code on the system, if they die the story cannot be told. Please look into this, I bet if you check with owners of this vehicle you will find the same problem not only the same yr of mine but newer ones. This problem has been happening ever since I have owned this vehicle. I have now a 109,000 miles on it now. On 01/28/2018 it done it several times on the highway.

48 Car Stall problem of the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 01/12/2018

Intermittently the vehicle will hesitate during acceleration from a standing start. It appears related to turbo lag, but to the extreme and is a dangerous safety issue. Most recently, as I went to takeoff I was momentarily stalled in the middle of the street as I was pulling into on-coming traffic. This is just the opposite of what a turbo boost is supposed to provide. This issue is well-documented on the Hyundai auto forums and needs to be addressed immediately. Again, this not an inconvenience. It is a safety hazard and Hyundai seems unconcerned about solving this issue. Someone is going to die unless you force them to fix this issue. And if you don't, the blood will be on the NHTSA's hands as well. This is also not the first time this has occured, but the most recent and serious example since I have owned the vehicle.

49 Car Stall problem of the 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 01/10/2018

Tl the contact owns a 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated that the vehicle suddenly lost power and there was a drastic reduction in speed to the point that the vehicle could stall. The vehicle was included in NHTSA campaign number: 17v226000 (engine and engine cooling). The dealer (sacramento Hyundai, 6250 florin rd, sacramento, CA 95823, 916-427-1234) indicated that they performed the recall repair, but the engine seized shortly afterwards. The vehicle was unable to be driven and the dealer refused to repair the vehicle again. The dealer also indicated that the vehicle was out of warranty. The contact explained to the dealer that the replacement part for the recall failed; therefore, she should not be responsible for replacing the engine. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was awaiting their response. The approximate failure mileage was 101,000. The VIN was not available.

50 Car Stall problem of the 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 12/06/2017

I have just purchased my Santa Fe sport 2. 0t ultimate 4 days ago and while driving home today from work traffic was a stop and go. Car drove fine for about a mile in this traffic (I drive a total of 16 miles a day to and from work), then I tried to go after stopping and there was a big hesitation in the acceleration. The car went to 8 mph then felt as it had stalled and I almost was hit, thankfully my car started going. It did this twice in less then ten minutes and both times I was almost hit. I was on a highway during after work 5:30 rush hour traffic when this happened. This has made me not want to drive my new car I am paying for.

51 Car Stall problem of the 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 10/11/2017

While normal driving down a city road going straight the vehicle will stall without any notice or any change in condition. You loose all power, brakes and steering when this happens and have to bring it to stop with emergency brake and place in park. Then you can start the vehicle once again like it has no issues. This issue produces no engine trouble codes and has happened 3 other times in the 6 years we owned the vehicle. This is extremely dangerous and we never know when it will happen.

52 Car Stall problem of the 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 10/06/2017

Vehicle stalls while sitting idling waiting at stop lights problem is intermittent and unpredictable. Engine shutters while idling as well. Vehicle loses ability to accelerate when this occurs requiring the driver to put the vehicle in park, turn the engine off, then restart the vehicle. Safety hazard in busy traffic. Additional issues with slippage sounds from the axels when turning corners. Problem may be linked to other open recalls involving manufacturer reported machine errors during the manufacturing process that causes premature bearing wear within the engine. The noted safety risk on other VIN numbered models within the same class is that it may cause the vehicle to stall, increasing the risk of a crash. This vehichle was just purchased from carmax virginia three days ago. Issue was not obvious at the time of purchase. There were no open recalls for this VIN number at the time sale was made, but issue is quite present at 50,000 miles and I have contacted carmax to inform them of the issue. This particular problem seems consistent with all models of Hyundai manufactured around 2014. A national recall of the entire line should be considered to alert consumers and avoid unwanted purchases and or damaging accidents.

53 Car Stall problem of the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 10/01/2017

When driving in normal and sport mode, on acceleration there is a delay and when the gas is left off, the engine is revving high but propulsion, speed is diminished, having a stall out affect at varying speeds. Rpm is high but engine is not responding . This has happened weekly and nearly daily when driving in city environment with speed from 30 to 50 plus miles per hour.

54 Car Stall problem of the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 08/28/2017

Excessive engine braking on downhill roll with cruise engaged, will downshift then downshift again. While reducing the speed the cruise will cause the transmission to up-shift still rolling down the same hill at this point the cruise realizes the speed increase and does a double downshift from where it was. At this point the rpm has jumped to just under 5000 with the engine whining like its in pain. I live in and travel, to and from work in the lower savannah river area of south carolina. The hill that I was on is about the length football field and the speed limit is 55mph unsure of the grade, but as I explained where we live. The first time I noticed this issue the odometer had just over a thousand miles and just thought it was an anomaly but now it has just under three thousand miles and it still has the problem. The car was purchased as a wedding gift for my wife and she's scared to drive it because of the cruise control issues. She would rather drive her 2007 Santa Fe the cruise control in it acts normal and feels dependable, even with 114,000 miles on it. I've contacted Hyundai motors and have taken it to the dealer with no results. Hyundai assigned me case worker angela godbey (714) 965-7049 she closed the case 8/23/17, but not without giving indication that the problem is a manufacturers installed defect.

60 Car Stall problem of the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 05/10/2017

My wife and I have had the same intermittent problem since acquiring our 2017 Santa Fe brand new in the late spring of 2016. When turning from a stop or making a very low speed turn, and then starting to accelerate, the vehicle will stall and hesitate, not moving or "catching" for 1-2 seconds. This has happened to us approximately 6-8 times. And I've nearly been rear-ended on several of those occasions because I was stalled in front of traffic behind me, also trying to make the turn . Once I barely cleared the intersection at a light when turning left, having the Santa Fe stall in the face of oncoming traffic. I was nearly broadsided by swift moving, oncoming traffic. Someone is going to be killed if this problem is not fully addressed as soon as possible. The public needs protection and a remedy. I can't imagine Hyundai is unaware of this problem. I did a quick google search on the topic, and found many, many postings regarding this exact same set of circumstances. There were Hyundai message board complaints, NHTSA complaints, "lemon" law firms whoa are advertising, seeking potential 2017 Santa Fe owning clients, citing this exact set of facts. It's difficult to confirm exact dates, as this has occurred multiple times. The most recent time it happened was in early may 2017, at an intersection less than a mile from our home, making a left turn from a stop, with traffic lined up behind us.

61 Car Stall problem of the 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 05/05/2017

My 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe stalled out again. This event happened while turning left onto a busy street after siting at a red light. The car lost all power, making it difficult to control while pulling over to the side of the road, but in the way of other drivers. I put the car in park and then the engine restarted and I was able to drive away. The car behind me was forced to slam on their brakes, as it appears that I have just decided to stop in the middle of the road. Was nearly rear ended. Very dangerous and completely out of my control.
