While driving myself and my 3 year old son on the freeway headed to drop him off at the sitter prior to going to work I let off my gas while driving a good 65mph and my car continued to drive while my foot was not on the pedal to excelerate not only was my car driving on its own as if it were in cruse control but my check engine light went at the same time this was occurring. Right away I thought it was the transmission (I had a 2000 Hyundai elantra with transmission issues previously) however I then remembered there was a recall from last year regarding the engine what they called engine seizures in which Hyundai did not have a remedy for at that time (reference#: 10312381 dated 6/9/17) was my initial case to Hyundai so I've now contacted the manufacturer again this morning (ref# 11650656 10/3/2108) and I've scheduled an appointment with Hyundai service department @ 8:45am tracy CA for 10/4/2018 for them to hopefully have a remedy that could potentially save lives. My car has 56k miles and my warranty is up at 60k miles. I am fearful for others as well as parent and concerned financially for what's to possibly come if I don't recieve the adequate assistance. Please help - ashley cosgrove contact @ 209-740-7776.

Was driving on the highway and heard a rattling/clunking, my rpm's shot up and I couldn't accelerate past 60. The check engine light came on and then shut off briefly. Then all of the lights on my dashboard came on and I pulled over but had no power steering. Once I pulled over the car began to smoke so I turned it off. I then heard a loud pop and saw a thick black smoke coming from the hood and within 30 seconds the front of my car was in flames. It is believed to be an issue with the engine and there is the start of a class action law suit on this engine.

Tl the contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe. When the contact attempted to start the engine, it turned over and took more than one attempt to start. Also, the check engine indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the check engine light illuminated because the vehicle may not have an authentic fuel cap. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 98,600.
Purchased used w/ 103k mi on it from a dealership. Engine light came on at dealership - alternator and purge valve replaced - thought it was fixed. Drove home and just before turning right into driveway and still on 55mph busy county road, engine shut off (all dash and console lights on and wipers running) right in the middle of the road. No steering or brakes. I had to coast to a stop on the side of the road. I put it in park, turned the key off and turned it right back on. Was able to back up and pull into my driveway without incident. Check engine light came back on as it was being taken back to the shop the next day - no sign of fix. I had just driven from the dealership service (about 25 miles) on a major interstate. . . A number of right and left turns, on and off ramps, stop lights, stop signs and residential roads. This could have been a fatal accident and this vehicle should be totaled out and sold for parts. Hyundai should return our money - we will never buy another one.

Was traveling on interstate at 70 mph. Exited and slowed to about 35 mph, at which time the engine shut down. Engine started right back up and ran ok rest of way home. The next day when driving up a hill, engine began to knock and check engine light came on. I continued on to an autozone where I had it checked with a code reader. Code retrieved was p0014 which is b camshaft timing over-advanced or system performance bank 1. Removed valve cover and front cover and inspected the camshaft and timing components. These checked ok, removed oil pan and discovered that the #4 rod bearing had spun on crankshaft. I then found that Hyundai had had this problem with many of their 2. 4l engines and that there was actually a recall on some. I contacted Hyundai by email and was informed that my VIN# was not included. So now I am stuck with a vehicle that I owe on and that will cost me at least $5,000 to have a new engine installed, which I can not afford.
On 7/19/2018, after starting the vehicle, I noticed the engine would not rev more than 4000rpm while in park. Thought this might be a safety feature so didn't give it much thought. I drove the car that day approximately 80 miles, and about 1 mile from my house, while stopped at a stop sign on a city street, the engine died. I was able to get the car started but it immediately died again. I was able to again get the vehicle started and drove it the rest of the way home. No check engine light ever illuminated! drove the car about 20 total miles over the next 3 days with no problems. On 7/23/2018, my wife drove the car to work and the engine stopped running while she was still moving on a busy city street. She was able to pull to the side of the road. The engine would not start again and she had to have it towed to the local Hyundai dealership. Still no check engine light! we bought this vehicle on 7/11/2015. A 36 month old vehicle with approx 30k miles and it breaks down? this problem is not an annoyance. This problem is a safety issue! NHTSA should be ordering a mandatory recall, especially after the problems they had with prior year Hyundai engines.

Hit accelerator and won't shift into gear, loud revs and then hear a bang and the car jumps as it finally shifts into gear. This has happened randomly throughout the life of my car at random, I didn't think much of it, then last week, I start to lose power, and same thing, it happens multiple times on the same drive. Never once when this happens did I get a check engine light. Then it got scary as while on the freeway the vehicle would downshift when traveling at a high rate of speed on its own while in drive. Still no check engine light car finally gets back to correct gear ratio for the speed. Finally the check engine light comes on. Now the car won't shift out of 4th gear, no 1st or second gear.
My 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe stalled twice today. It also stalled on the same day twice last week. This happened each time I came to a stop light or wanted to make a turn. The engine stopped running, the power steering ceased working, and check engine light came on. After each occurrence, I switched my hazard lights on, pushed the transaxle to park and then restarted the car to pull out of traffic. The stalling is often accompanied by loss of power (power steering and brakes too), complete failure to accelerate, and the check engine light comes on.

While driving the vehicle on the highway, I noticed the check engine light came on. I checked the oil level and other fluids. The oil was very low. I put in a few quarts of oil immediately and took the vehicle to get an oil change professionally shortly after. I noticed the engine with hesitate and idling became rough. At the same time, the fuel miles per gallon decreased drastically.
Purchased 2013 Santa Fe sport in Jan 2018, with 60k miles. 7k miles added, to date. May 2018, drove through a car wash, water entered the cab through a seal above the dashboard. Hyundai service investigated, replaced moon roof seal, and then reported that the moon roof seal was not the cause, further investigation needed, at a cost, to us, of $400. We respectfully declined. Water entering the vehicle, during a heavy rain, could prove to be very dangerous. 6/02/18, merged onto highway, speed of 75 mph, 9:45 am, clear skies, fairly moderate traffic. Without warning, engine lost all power, attempted to accelerate, negative results, non-responsive. Vehicle began to slow, turned hazard warning lights on, and coasted to the next exit. There were approximately 4 cars behind me when I lost engine power. Fortunately, I was able to safely exit, the freeway, and coast downhill, to a nearby chevron station, without causing a major accident. (would my wife or children have been as fortunate?) turned the vehicle off and then on again. The vehicle had electrical power and initiated a self check, results unknown. The check engine warning light/battery light/oil light were all visible on the dash board. While the vehicle was performing a self diagnostic test. . . A cloud of smoke/burning smell emitted from the ac vent located near the radio. Vehicle was towed to the Hyundai dealer, where purchased. A diagnostic check and visual inspection revealed that the engine had seized and was related to previous engine recall. Problem: machining errors during the engine manufacturing process may cause premature bearing wear within the engine, this could result in the engine seizing, increasing the risk of a crash. Fix: dealers will inspect the engine and replace the engine short block, as necessary, for free. Dangerous, busy highways, high speed. . . . Fatalities probable.

Check engine light comes on and testing shows 3rd cylinder has as fuel-oxygen imbalance. Has happened twice. Light went off the 2nd time. Brand new car. It happened at 2,500 and 5,000 miles. Had it checked by Hyundai the first time and they didn't see any other problems, chalking it up to a malfunction. Someone told me it could be a bad fuel injector; bad sensor; or a miscalibration of the engine/fuel injector.

When driving on the high way, the speed at 60~65 mph, check engine light came on 2~3 times, each time just lasted few seconds and acceleration probably could trigger check engine light on.
My car is stating to show signs of loss of power and hesitation as noted as some of the affects from this recall. I did notice this same type of actions back in September, and my check engine light came on and my car completely died on me and was jerking and hesitant when it would run. I took it in for repair to phil long Hyundai of motor city and paid $624. 03 for repairs, and not the same actions are occurring. I would like action to be taken prior to a complete stall and would like to request to be reimbursed for the $624. 03 I paid out back in September 2016 for repairs.
My car engine check light went on over the past months more than 7 times, everytime the dealer tells me that they couldnt find anything wrong with the car, I beleive that they failed to fix the car and today I received a recall notice from Hyundai stating that they found a defect related to the engine. Today the check engine light went on again.

Engine seized, thankfully I was barely leaving my home. Engine totally failed with no warning. No check engine lights went on until after the engine failed. Engine also began smoking. Hyundai concluded the car had total engine failure. The car received regular maintenance/ oil changes and taken care of. Being a 2013 should not have had engine failure.
The "check engine light" indicator turned on, and there was a recognizable failure in engine when srtarting. Took it back to dealerand took nearlya month to find the inconvinience and two weeks to fix it. They call me back to annuonce me it was ready and by the time I was reciving I noticed the air conditionar not functioning at all. Once again one more week to find the missfunctioning and reparing, now the veihicle is consumming to much gasoline (almost half tank in 87 kilometer) the injectors problem plevails. I get the Santa Fe in mxico, ciudad juarez chihuahua at hyndai penta is the name of the agency, as a brand new vehicle whit 0 kilometers and I pay it in cash I hope you can help me because they dont want to respond. Thank you.

Faulty gas gauge. After filling up to a full gas tank, gas gauge will go up and down and eventually stop at an incorrect reading. This happens whether the vehicle is stationary or in motion. I never know how much gas I have which is incredibly unsafe and dangerous!!! when the gauge gets below half a tank, the check engine light will come on. This has been happening for months and now the check engine light will not turn off at all no matter how much gas the car has. Then, car started to smell like gas inside when driving on the highway. Took to Hyundai dealership to fix and was quoted over $1,000. This vehicle should be recalled, the gas gauge issue is a safety issue because someone could run out of gas and be stranded.
1. Starter gear had to be replaced and the dealer ship and was told many of these cars are having the same issue. 2. When raining and driving down city streets, or highway my car will try to stall out and the check engine light comes on then it will lose steering, rpms will fluctuate. When checked it said it was the absolute pressure sensor.

The contact owns a 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated that while driving at 55 mph, the check engine and the esc warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was restarted and the check engine warning light remained illuminated. In addition, when the accelerator pedal was depressed, the esc warning light illuminated and the brakes engaged independently. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the throttle position sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 79,000.
I exited a toll and proceeded to enter the NJ turnpike, suddenly, the steering became tight. I noticed that the power steering was out, along with the engine. The engine just turned off. Thankfully, no traffic, I proceed to pull to the feeder of the entrance. Put car in park, and the car restarted. I am not sure what happened, and fearful that this could happen, with trucks behind me, unable to pull to the side and risk serious injury. No check engine light warning was indicated. I recently had two knock sensors replaced at the Hyundai dealership.
This has happened on 4 separate occasions, both while driving in town at slow speeds and on a highway at high speeds. The check engine light will come on and the car will cut off, no power at all. On each occasion I put the car in neutral and restarted the car immediately and it resumed it's normal driving capacity. It is very scary to be driving along and then all of a sudden the car cuts off for no reason. The last time it happened I was in the middle of a sharp curve, so not having power steering at that point was not very safe, as I ended up in the other lane but thank goodness there wasn't a car coming in the other direction at the time.
The contact owns a 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled and the check engine light, battery light, ecs light, and abs light illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and it was determined that the crank shaft position sensor failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 83,100.
My Santa Fe awd 2008 was bought in June 2009 and now has ~99k mileage. I had four or five similar incidents with my Santa Fe starting on 4/21/15, which led to significant power loss and speed loss of the car on the road. The first time, I was driving on a local road at ~25 mph. Suddenly I felt the car lost the power and began to slow down. I stepped down on the accelerator, but the car could not accelerate (the speed dropped to ~10 mph). I saw 3 system indicator/warning lights the esc off(electronic stability control) and check engine indicators had a steady light and the awd system warning light was flashing. I pulled off to the side of the road, shut off the car, waited ~1 minute, and then restarted the car. The check engine light stayed on, but the other lights went out. Then I drove the car to continue to my job. The 2nd incident occurred on my way home. The same scenario except that I was driving at ~40 mph at the time. The sudden power loss caused the car speed quickly dropped to ~10 mph and probably led the car behind mine to make a sudden stop to avoid a crash. Again, I pulled off to the side of the road, shut off the engine, and then restarted the car with the check engine light staying on. The other times I was on the cresent city connection (bridge) in the center lane. I had to work my way over two lanes to turn the vehicle off to restart to continue on my way to or from work. After the 5th time, I did some research online and found an article stating that this problem was on the TSB (technical safety bulletin). Maybe someone somewhere should be aware of more than one vehicle having this problem. . . . . . .
I was driving to work and my 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe started to "jump" persay. It jumped from 1 rpm to 5 rpm, when I tried ro brake it acted as if my gears were grinding, and it thrusted me forward. This is a very scary incident that has happened alot, but up til this morning, there was no check engine lights on. The check engine light came on so my husband disconnected my battery in hopes it would reset. After about thirty minutes we hooked the battery back up and took it for a drive, and the same thing happened. I almost crashed this morning on the way to work while I was doing 55mph I came to a curve and my car jumped to 5 rpms and I almost lost control of my car. . . . This car is dangerous, something has to be done!!!.

Vehicle stalls while slowing down. When this happens, headlights and power steering and braking are lost, and the check engine light and battery light come on. Imagine driving down a dark windy road at night and losing power steering and braking and not being able to see the road. This is accurate to the experience. If I turn car off and back on, it starts just fine. It happens everywhere, on the freeway, while parking, etc. Every person I have talked to with same vehicle confirms the same. I have yet to find anyone with a fix. There is a recall out for 2010 and on for a similar issue. This issue started happening in 2015 when I purchased the car, and it has continued to happen for years.
Yesterday while decelerating at about 30 mph and coming to a stop sign, the car completely shut off. The check engine light illuminated. The car was restarted and continued to operate normally. The car check engine light did not illuminate again. I took to my dealer today (next am) due to my concern. I contacted Hyundai and asked to extend my warranty and mentioned my car had similar problem description mentioned in the online 929 Hyundai campaign. The dealer said no code history or code is showing and nothing can be done but to wait and see if problem reappears. I am concerned that this car if again completely shuts off while in operation could become more of a fatal result. Would like Hyundai to extend the online 929 campaign to my vehicle which is same year and model or some other way to check this problem thanks.
Driving on interstate 1 hour east of asheville, nc in heavy traffic. At approximately 230 pm on 8/20/2014 the check engine light came on, the car shuddered and lost all acceleration. Complete loss of power managed to coast to the side of the road and turned car off. Restarted and drove to Hyundai dealership in asheville, nc about 30 miles away. They performed a software update and stated problem was resolved. Continued driving on highway (traveling back to dayton OH), and within 1 hour check engine light came on, at about 700 pm, a complete loss of power and no acceleration, and had to coast to the side of the road, restart the engine, etc. Again, incredibly dangerous situation on a busy interstate. The same exact situation happened 2 more times on our way home on the interstate, until we could finally take it to our dealer where they replaced the throttle control assembly and did another software update. This was incredibly dangerous, could easily have resulted in a very bad accident and merits investigation. Please contact me if I can provide additional information. Thank you for your consideration.

Safety issue: failure of the fuel sending unit permanently turns on the "check engine light" which denies the use of the "check engine light" for other serious conditions. Many consumers have previously reported the failure of the fuel sending unit. These units cost between $800 to $1200 to fix so most drivers do not fix it and instead use the odometer reading to determine when fuel is needed. Unfortunately, driving with the "check engine light" on at all times prevents the driver from seeing the "check engine light" illuminate when a serious condition exists. Therefore, this is a safety issue. Considering the number of consumer reports already sent to NHTSA regarding failed fuel sending units, Hyundai should immediately issue a safety recall to fix these units.
Highway driving at 55mph, complete and total loss of drive train and engine power, check engine light illuminates. No throttle capability. Engine reduces to idling speed, but transmission stays engaged. Vehicle slows down and driver pulls off road. All electronics appear to work. Gas pedal has no interaction with engine throttle. Required tow off highway to Hyundai dealer. Hyundai dealer repaired problem with computer revision update. TSB unknown.
My Santa Fe limited awd 2008 was bought at the end of Feb 2009 and now has ~44k mileage. I had two similar incidents with my Santa Fe today (7/6/2014), which led to significant power loss and speed loss of the car on the road. The first time, I was driving on a local road at ~45 mph. Suddenly I felt the car lost the power and began to slow down. I stepped down on the accelerator, but the car could not accelerate (the speed dropped to ~20 mph). Then I drove the car to continue my grocery shopping (several stops, ~30 miles in total). The 2nd incident occurred on my way home. The same scenario except that I was driving at ~40 mph and going uphill at the time. The sudden power loss caused the car speed quickly dropped to ~10 mph and probably led the car behind mine to make a sudden stop to avoid a crash. Again, I pulled off to the side of the road, shut off the engine, and then restarted the car with the check engine light staying on. After got home safely, I did some search online and found several similar incidents reported on Hyundai Santa Fe suvs before (see the attached links below). So I decided to report this serious issue. The link of websites with similar incidents reported: 1. . Read more...
Engine shuts off after taking foot off gas, slowing down and then applying gas to accelerate. After a short pause aproximately 15 to 20 seconds, the engine will restart and resume normal operation. No check engine light appears. The engine has three times in the last 14 months. Car was brough to dealer after first time and no codes or issues could be found. I will bring car back to dealer now after the third time. This is last stall resulted in a close call in heavy traffic.
Once my car has gone 200 miles on a tank the check engine light comes on and the fuel gauge is not accurate. The fuel gauge will show completely empty and then change to more than 1/4 tank and back. Once the tank is refilled the check engine light goes off and then comes back on and acts the same after again going 200 miles. The dealer said the warranty is only good to 60000 or 5 years on the fuel sensor but reading online this is a problem that a lot of Hyundai Santa Fe owners are having after reaching 60000 miles. I had the check engine code checked and it listed p0 464 - fuel level sensor a circuit intermittent. With the amount of complaints on this part Hyundai should recall and fix this problem at no cost.
