36 Engine Stall problem of the 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 07/08/2014

I have had the engine stallment issue with my 2010 Santa Fe limited since I bought this car new in 2010. My last 4 incidents have been reported to the dealer. They have not been able to duplicate the issue nor find any codes for it. They have performed the following fixes on my car in 4 separate attempts with no luck: - replace throttle body (2013) - replace main power cable - replace computer's main board - update software this is an extremely dangerous issue. Last time it happened I was driving my car on a downhill ramp to enter the freeway when the engine stalled. I can still hear the concrete truck's brake sound in my ears when it desperately managed to stop and avoid collision. I don't feel safe to drive this car anymore. I have also lost my confidence in the dealer's ability to permanently fix this issue.

37 Engine Stall problem of the 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 05/24/2014

This is the second incident. The first was in September 2013. Both times I was traveling at 15 mph when the car engine stalled and I lost steering power and braking power. I was able to pull over to side of road and put car in park it then restarted. Engine warning light came on both times. I call Hyundai customer service and was told to have car towed to closest dealer which is over 60 miles from me. They are not sure if I will be reimbursed for towing fees this far.

38 Engine Stall problem of the 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 01/31/2014

I was on a freeway on ramp that goes downhill and involves a curve to the right. About halfway down the on ramp my engine stalled. I had to turn my wheel as far right as I could to avoid going off embankment and could not accelerate to try to move away from the edge of the embankment or attain a safe speed to merge onto freeway. My oil light and malfunction light both came on. I was able to get to the side of the road and turn car off. When I turned it back on all indicator lights were off and car drove fine. I was informed by dealership there has been a recent software fix for this that has to do with the throttle.

39 Engine Stall problem of the 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 10/16/2013

My neighbor sold me my car. So he usually will take it in for my oil changes to save me the trip. He picked my car up as usual and headed to the dealership, which is about 25 miles away. He called me less then a half hour later saying the car was broken down on the side of the road. I was livid. The vehicle was towed to circle Hyundai of shrewsbury NJ. They did not touch the car the afternoon it came in. That upset me even more. The next day I finally received a call in late afternoon that the engine suffered a "catastrophic failure:" my engine was seized. I was told my oil level was fine. My oil was clean. The could not explain the cause of what caused the failure. I was informed that a new engine would be installed. A long block. I have not heard from the dealer since. I have to say, I drive allot for my work. I also take at least two cross country trips a year. I don't trust this vehicle anymore. I feel I am entitled to a new vehicle at what my current load due amount is. How can I trust this car to get me to my job? I shoot weddings for a living. I am pretty sure a bride is not going to want to hear about my car engine seizing, that is why I missed her wedding ceremony. Hyundai should make this right!!!.

43 Engine Stall problem of the 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 04/06/2013

This complaint involves the intermittent total lack of engine power with no throttle response. Please note that the engine does not stall nor do any instrument panel lights come on. For two to four seconds, there is absolute silence and then all of a sudden the engine springs to life and, depending on where you have your foot on the accelerator, the vehicle proceeds or lurches forward. All three incidents were while driving slowly in grocery store parking lots, involving several stop and go incidents through slow moving traffic. The first incident took me by surprise and I thought the engine stalled. I was going to shift to neutral for a restart, but before I could, the engine came back to life and I nearly rear-ended the car in front of me. The second incident was when leaving this same parking lot, except I was entering a divided highway, expecting to merge into 55+mph traffic, when the loss of engine occurred again. Luckily I avoided being hit by oncoming vehicles and was able to get in to the next opening after the engine again came back to life on it's own. The latest incident took place in a different market parking lot. I was in a line of vehicles stopped at the stop sign at the entrance to the market where pedestrians cross. The truck ahead of me proceeded through and when I started to come up to the stop sign, the engine died, but restarted it self as before. My foot was approximately half way down on the accelerator and when everything engaged, the front tires screeched and startled several people in the cross walk, along with myself. Fortunately I was able to brake quickly and avert a possible disaster. This situation is extremely dangerous and I can foresee the potential for serious injury due to this problem. Internet research shows many more of these same vehicles are prone to this same defect. Thank you.

44 Engine Stall problem of the 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 04/01/2013

My engine has stalled at several occasions beginning around April 2013. The first 2 events happened as I was stopped at a red light. I put my foot on the accelerator and nothing happened I had to restart the car to get it moving again. The car has also stalled twice while I was reversing into a parking spot and once as I was turning a corner I lost control of the steering function in the middle of the street. As recently as October 2013 the car stalled again while stopped at a red light. All of these events happened as I was stopped or moving at a low (less than 10 mph) rate of speed.

45 Engine Stall problem of the 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 01/27/2013

What I am about to describe happens randomly. The only discernible pattern is that it happens when accelerating from rest or from slow speed. It has happened about 15 times in the first 800 miles of driving. When I begin to accelerate slowly forward from rest or from a slow forward roll there is no response. It feels like the engine has stalled, but hasn't. Continuing to push down brings no result. After approximately a 2 to 5 second delay, the rpms begin to build up rapidly. The first two or three times it happened I suddenly surged forward in a very dangerous manner. The real problem, however, is that with following traffic expecting me to accelerate and continue to accelerate and I suddenly stop accelerating without having applied brakes, thus activating brake lights, there is a rear end collision waiting to happen. Here is an example from last night. I was rolling slowly in a left turn lane, foot off the gas, waiting for oncoming traffic to clear. It did and I begin the turn simultaneously pressing down on the pedal--no response. Let up and pressed down again--no response. I let up again, rpms came up, I pressed down again and proceed normally into a parking lot. I was perpendicular to 3 lanes of oncoming traffic and dead in the water for maybe 3 to 5 seconds. Essentially the same thing has happened while accelerating out of a u turn and also coming out of a slow right turn. It happened while accelerating slowly through an opening security gate. I have left the car with the dealer overnight so they could drive it and hook it up to their error code machines. They could not observe the issue or diagnose the problem. Nonetheless, it is real and very dangerous. It has been a matter of pure luck that no one has been close behind me during any of these power losses. I hope this report is useful. I would be happy to talk to anyone who might want more information.
