The contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated that on six occasions over a 12-month period, the vehicle overheated while driving at various speeds. Additionally, the contact observed white smoke coming from the exhaust pipe on the rear passenger’s side and the front of the vehicle. The check engine warning light was illuminated during the last failure. The contact stated that on several occasions the vehicle was taken to the residence, and on other occasions, the vehicle was towed to an independent dealer where it was diagnosed that the thermostat housing and radiator needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure reoccurred several times. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 135,000.

My car started running hot periodically, the thermostat gauge kept going up and down. There was a bubbling sound in radiator reserve container. My vehicle would not stay cranked.
My vehicle started running hot, the coils were replaced, it continued to run hot periodically, then I had to keep putting water in radiator reserve container and made this bubbling noise when I was driving or stopped with the car running. The starter was replaced. My vehicle became difficult to crank and eventually the engine shut down and it wouldn't crank at all.

On Saturday 6/3/17 I was driving home from a baby shower when I heard a metal sounding noise towards the front of my car after hitting a bump. The noise only happened once and when I pulled in the driveway and turned my car off it sounded like metal parts falling out under my car but when I crawled under my car nothing looked abnormal, so I got back in the car to start it and it would not start. Monday 6/5/17 I had my car towed to kelley radiator to be looked at, after them checking everything they told me my engine is seized. The owner of kelley radiator cannot figure out why my engine seized, he has checked everything such as fluids to mechanical parts and everything checks out good. I did some research and found engine failure is a common problem with certain Hyundai cars. I have contacted Hyundai but no response . I have had this car for 2 years ,faithfully getting oil changes and I still owe $12,366. 67 on this car. I cannot afford a new engine without applying for a loan and really cannot afford a lawyer so any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.
We were driving the vehicle on the highway around 60 mph, the vehicle stalled in the middle of the highway with no prior warning, no check engine light, no overheating. . . . The engine has oil and the radiator is full of antifreeze. We took it to a Hyundai dealer, they advised the engine is locked up and we need new engine that costs $8500. 00. According to some reviews on the internet, this has happened to many people and Hyundai ended up replacing the engines for them. I called Hyundai customer care center, they refused to do anything about it because the car is out of warranty period (79k miles). It looks like this is a common defect in these cars and the manufacturer should recall these engines.

In stop and go traffic, I took my foot off the brake to coast towards the car in front of me. This pattern had been going on for several miles. I was not touching the accelerator and in fact, my foot was not on the brake either, and the car suddenly accelerated full throttle. I had just a couple of seconds to try to avoid hitting the vehicle in front of me. I swerved to the right, towards the shoulder, but I hit the truck in front of me. I was braking the entire time, but it was not enough to stop the sudden unintended acceleration. My left bumper hit his truck on the right hand side of his bumper. My radiator was damaged and leaked all the fluid out onto the highway. The car was not drivable because of the radiator.

Upon return from vacation, power steering was moaning, loss of fluid from under front of vehicle. Examination revealed loss due to fluid cooler line beneath radiator. Fluid was leaking onto the catalytic converter inches to the rear of the line. Examination revealed black staining on surface of converter due to skin temperature of approximately 1200 deg. Fix was to replace cooler line. This is potential cause of loss of steering control and/or vehicular fire.

Driving I-75 south in georgia, Sunday afternoon, June 10, 2007, the air conditioning system stopped working, traveling to jacksonville, FL. Calling from the highway on a cell phone to the dealership, we were instructed to call the Hyundai assistance 800 number. Upon connection was given the names and phone numbers of two Hyundai dealerships in jacksonville, FL. On Monday, June 11 am, took the vehicle to key Buick, hyunday in jacksonville for service. Several hours later, we were informed that the ac condenser was damaged and not a warranty item, the repair was estimated at $750. The cause of the failure, according to the service manager, was some item damaged the condenser and using his words "probably road debris" passing through the grill. He continued the explanation that there are not barriers that would prevent small items from passing through the grill and damaging the condenser and radiator while traveling on the highways. Asking the service manager if this could happen again, he replied yes. The failure of Hyundai to foresee, design and provide any type of screen barrier behind the grill allows any type of debris to cause harm to the condenser or radiator at any time. The vehicle was repaired on June 14 by key Buick Hyundai in jacksonville, FL. I offer a solution that a small amount of hardware cloth attached to the back of the grill would deflect most all debris and protect the condenser and radiator from damage while still allowing ample air flow. Hardly a happy traveling period with 3 days of negotiating with two dealerships rick case Hyundai in duluth, GA. & key Buick Hyundai in jacksonville, no vehicle availability and frustrating expenses.

Purchased a new 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe 11/2001 with 11 miles on it. In 3/2007, the radiator needed to be replaced. In replacing it, 2 major safety defects were discovered - no safety/protective foam in the front bumper and the safety/crash bar was bent - I was told that the car must had been in a major accident. I took the car back to the original dealer and they accepted no responsibility - they said I must have done it. I have had no accidents or tickets and my driving record proves that. I purchased a vehicle history report, which showed no accident history. The only conclusion is that the defects were present at the time of sale. The car slipped through the cracks of the safety inspections.
