Hyundai corporation knew that was a problem with my car and identical cars steering wheel coupler and therefore increased coverage for repair from 50000 miles to 100000 naming concern instead of faulty- defective to avoid recall. They never notified costumers regarding this concern! most inexperienced drivers don't understand the click sound that later turns into clank when part is totally damaged and that time their car is beyond 100000 miles. Hyundai dealerships failed intentionally to notify customers since they have been benefiting charging $380 to $480 to replace $2 part. If you review online complaints you will see similar significant amount of statements. Further more Hyundai corporation and dealerships compromised lives because of vibration of steering wheel can cause major accidents you may obtain copies of repair documents from Hyundai, dealers and owners regarding this ongoing outrages act that took place intentionally to avoid cost , liabilities and benefit from repairs while disadvantaging owners, jeopardizing lives and getting paid for something that should have been recalled . I can give you an example that Hyundai issued safety recall fuel pump that small crack can lead to major problem and no time or millage limits applied. On the other hand steering wheel flex coupler can start as small crack and can cause major problems yet that failed to treat this defect same way and failed to notify customers.

My steering locked up as I was driving. I was making a left hand turn and it would barely turn. As I straightened the steering wheel it was still extremely difficult to turn. I managed to get it pulled in to the gas station and turned off the motor to pump my gas. It did fine after I cranked it back up.

On 7/17/19 my car lost power while driving on city street. Unable to steer or control vehicle. Took to dealer who said there were no error codes shown and that it was the electric oil pump. On 8/12/19, the same thing happened while driving on expressway. Complete power failure while vehicle was in motion. Unable to steer or control car. Took back to dealer. Again, no error codes found. They later claimed that a relay had melted and that was the problem. On 12/28/19, again driving 70mph on busy expressway, vehicle lost all power and I was unable to steer car. Took to dealer on 12/29 after it happened a second time in two days. There were unable to look at vehicle that day and told me to bring back next day. It stalled again while I was leaving parking lot, I asked the maintenance tech to come and look to see what was happening, he refused. Dropped car off on 12/30. On 1/2/20, dealer called to say no error codes found, after driving 100 plus miles, were unable to determine cause of problem and I should pick up my vehicle. I explained this is unacceptable. They called me back later claiming it is the electric steering column portion of motor control power steering rack and want $1800 to fix. This is a major safety issue, loosing complete power and ability to steer while driving. Dealer has done nothing to reassure me that this is the actual problem.
I have only had the car for about 6-7 months I bought it from a private owner I changed the oil and bought a new battery. The car did high milage at 194,000 miles I still bought the car. Last week while on my lunch break I was in my way to go pay my car insurance when I seen I had 32 miles to empty which I never let it get that low but I did obviously that day. As I begin to go up hill it felt like it stuttered so I figured I was running out of gas. But as I came over the hill I press on the gas and noticed that it revved up and to my knowledge the car was locked up the steering wheel was not able to turn the breaks were locked up and all my dash lights were on. I was scared and just let the car coast down the hill approaching a red light with traffic stopped all I could do was hope I didnt get it or hit no one else for not having much control over the car I braked as much as I could and coasted it into a gas station to where. I made it to the pump and turned the off off and went and got gas for the car. Tried to turn it over and not a thing happen sounded dead battery like it wanted to start but once I turned the key and it did not start if I tried right after just made a click click noise. I took my battery out and home to charge thinking maybe a bad cell or maybe alternator. Bought new battery and it not start so no not the alternator. I am at lost for words tried to turn the crankshaft and wont budge. Am I able to still get this looked at by Hyundai even if I just bought the car. Its registered to me if it is caused by these recalls does the car have to still be running for me to be able to recieve the benefits I have never had a car just straight die. Never made any noise or smoke or got hot. Also I noticed when I have the key and drop it down into all the gears it goes but when I slap it over to the manual side I can go from 1st to 2sd and that's it.

Takata recall. I bought my 2011 Hyundai Sonata last year in March of 2018. I was unaware of the many recalls it had, but figured the dealership wohld have notified me, which they did not. January of 2019 I had my engine replaced, which was on the recall list. Before I had brought the car in they told me they would fix all recalls. They never did. There is a recall on the "cupler" which is in the steering wheel compartment, which I was told they would fix before bringing it in. When I picked the car up it was not fixed and when I asked why not, they told me I was over the limited mileage by 1,000 miles. They now tell me I have to pay $300 for that part. Also, when checked on this website about my recalls it said they have all been repaired, which is a complete lie. Out of the 20 recalls they fixed 2. The engine and the fuel pump which was affected by the motor issue. I have dealt with them in the past, with my 2003 elantra when I needed a radiator, which I paid full price, but they never gave me a new radiator like they told me they were putting in my car. I found out when I later sold my car, years later. I feel this company is fradulent. Hyundai of watertown, CT.
I bought this car in March of 2018. They never told me about the 20 plus recalls that were never fixed. I recently had my engine replaced due to a recall. I also have about 20 recalls on this car that were not fixed. After my engine was replaced the Hyundai dealership cleared out all of my recalls as if they were fixed. They were not fixed or replaced, only the engine and fuel pump. They are telling me I have to pay out of pocket for other recalls on the car. They changed the wording to "extended warranty" when the part is on the recall list. Please look into this seeing they commited a fradulent act on me in the past on another car I bought from them.
On a two lane surface street driving on a straight course at 35 mph the steering wheel suddenly began to shake back and forth so violently that I could barely hang on and keep the car on the road until I could get it to stop on the road's shoulder. It continued to shudder until the engine was turned off. Upon proceeding at about 20 mph to a phone to call for a tow to a dealer it happened again and jerked the car into the oncoming opposite lane. It could not be driven safely at any speed. It happened a third time when loading the car onto the tow truck. The violent shaking of the steering wheel continued well after the engine was powered off. The dealer's service mechanics were able to replicate this violent shaking condition in their shop with the engine both running and with the engine off. They submitted a video on it to Hyundai engineers. The diagnosis was "internal failure of the power steering pump /module that is built into the steering column. " a replacement module was ordered and replaced in about four days and $1033. 92.
There has been a licking sound when I turn my steering for about 8 months now. I took to the dealership on two separate occasions and was told that when they test the vehicle they did not hear any sounds. About two weeks ago he sound was more noticeable as soon as the steering was turned. I soon noticed a knocking sound on the driver’s side whenever the road is rough. I took it back to the dealership on Monday September 21 2015; I was told that my vehicle was unsafe to drive because both coupling was completely broken off. The reason that forced me to bring it in on Monday is that I was driving on the high way to work and I stepped on the breaks and the steering started to shake really bad and I had a hard time controlling the car. I called Hyundai and reported the problem, I was told that they have gotten a lot of complains but they have not opened an investigation on it as of yet therefore there is no recall. I asked what if I had gotten in an accident; the response was if that should happen there would be an investigation and if Hyundai is at fault then they would compensate. This is unacceptable and a very serious issue that will eventually kill someone, if something is not done soon. I asked how is it possible that the coupling broke completely off and my car is a 2012 car which makes it only 2 1/2 years old and they said because of the high mileage. That does not make sense; I have seen cars 10yrs old and do not have this problem. Not only that but 6mths ago I also had to change my gas pump.

Tl- the contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while driving about 30 mph, the steering wheel wobbled and vibrated. The contact also stated that at stop, the steering wheel and handle bar shook uncontrollably. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer who diagnosed that the steering column and the fuel pump "were messed up" and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not notified and the vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 92,487. Fe.
My new 2014 Sonata se is a safety hazard while driving down the freeway at speeds of 60 to 75 mph. The problem is more relevant at high speeds than low speeds but the car still wanders. It will not stay in a straight line. It is a constant fade from left at one point to the right at another point. Hyundai dealership told me it is made to go to the right in case you fall asleep at the wheel. If I drive down the road and left the steering wheel go it wanders left and then right. My safety concern is when in traffic if I don’t have both hands on the wheel I will wander in another lane of traffic. When there are wind gusts while driving it is very hard to keep this car in the lane. I have driven many Ford’s and never had a steering issue like this. Since, it fades I have to compensate that with grasping hard on the steering wheel to keep it in line and straight. I. This will be my 4th attempt to get this resolved. I have reported it to Hyundai customer relations. No one has resolved my problem. This is an issue Hyundai knows about but refuses to deal with. I really don’t think anyone cares and they figure consumers will just go away or trade the car off. I have done some research on this problem and wished I had done it before I bought the car. The 2011 to 2013 models have had problems with this same issue and I have been told it’s the electric steering pump and it is what it is. I have had the computer reprogrammed; tire replaced and reset or changed the mode. This has not solved the problem. Why not change out the electric steering pump and at least that is something. Maybe electrically it is defective. I have thought it is tire related but can’t check that out without changing both front tires to different manufacture tire.

Took car to mechanic for fuel pump work. He informed us that the engine cradle is rusted byond repair and is un-safe to drive. I found the recall online and called Hyundai. They informed me that remediation had been done in 2009. (a new hole for drainage had been drilled in the engin cradle fram and a sealent applied). Evidently this did not stop the corrosion of the frame and caused a weakening of the frame and a crack in the structural area of the frame. Is Hyundai liable to repair this defect? I can supply pictures of the defect and crack in frame if necessary.

While driving at various speeds the "esc off" light illuminates for no reason. This has happened while driving on the freeway, normal surface streets, and has occurred while braking. Power steering goes out randomly during turns while on city streets or highways. Took the vehicle to a mechanic who tested the power steering and found no issue with the power steering pump. The pump is in good working order and did not need to be replaced. I had seen other complaints on the steering, with a recall issued, on 2008 and 2011 Sonata models, however the 2009 model was not included. This is very dangerous and could cause a crash. On those recalls the computer circuit board in the power steering control unit had become damaged and made the vehicle more difficult to turn possibly causing a wreck. Steering issue has been ongoing over the years.

The new Sonata is a safety hazard when driving down the freeway. It will not stay in a straight line. It is constantly moving or fading right to left. Hyundai dealership responds its built to go to the right incase you fall asleep. I have done some research to find the Sonata has had a long history of this same problem since 2011. The dealership says its the electric power steering pump. Well at high speeds its hard to handle and the reaction time is more difficult to compensate the right and left movement. I will be taking into a second Hyundai dealership next Monday so they can evaluate it. These Sonata's really need to be looked at. If driving at high speeds they move into the other lane and that is a major concern that Hyundai is not looking at. The only thing the first dealership did was check air in tires and torque the suspension as well as hook up a computer to the steering assembly and tes the steering modes. Which Sonata has normal, soft and sport. The fade to right and left happens in all modes.
Power steering loss during operation caused by power steering line failue. Power steering line failed due to oxidation. Oxidation was caused by design flaw that traps water draining from airconditioner evaporator in rubber tube designed to protect power steering line from road hazard damage.
