When driving the car, the steering column makes clunking noises. We have taken the car to the Hyundai dealer for recall issues and have been told that since we took the car in during the initial recall and it was "fixed" (we challenge that the "fix" worked), that we will have to pay to have the car fixed, that we need to have the steering column replaced. The estimate given on 1/28/2018 was approx. $1,900. We feel that Hyundai is responsible for the problems we have been having for quite some time, due to the recall. The noise is very obvious, and we are concerned that the steering column is going to completely break and cause an accident. This happens every time the car is driven when turning the steering wheel. I am listing the date as today, though it has been ongoing for well over a year.

After having every recall imaginable including the replacement of my engine recently after it stalled while driving down one of the busiest highways in las vegas, I am stunned that the steering column and the electrical for the brakes hasn't been recalled yet. My steering column is clicking and making noises that have increased in the volume of the sound and it does this every single time I turn the wheel. I see others have already had this fail in their 2012 Sonatas entirely and previous years of my exact vehicle for the same issues have been recalled. I drive a three year old around frequently and I am afraid that soon my column will completely detach itself and cause an accident. I see other consumers have had to pay to have it fixed out of pocket at low mileage as well. Clearly we cannot all be misusing our vehicles. Previous Sonata models have also had the exact same safety recalls for these exact same problems that we are seeing now in this specific year and still they choose to deny it is their fault. My miles aren't even 70,000 yet. I have also replaced my left rear brake light 4 times now, how many more times will I have to do this before I am hit by someone or before someone else's brake lights fail and they end up in an accident that could be fatal? I have already been pulled over for having a tail light out that I had just replaced a week prior. This year make and model should just be recalled and scrapped entirely and owners given their money back. I had a seatbelt recall that was then later on recalled again!! I mean come on Hyundai!.

2011 Hyundai Sonata is having a power steering and steering column issues of which apper to be identical to the steering component(s) issues correspond to that described in recalls: 10v457000 and 16v190000 . However, my 2011 Sonata, VIN: 5npec4ac1bh290512 and manufacture date April 27, 2011, does not fall within the stated manufacturer date(s) for recalls 10v457000 or 16v190000 although my vehicle is experiencing the exact same issues. In detail: the steering wheel feels loose/ sloppy while driving, especially on the highway, frequently when on the highway only the steering wheel will start to shake rapidly on and off randomly making a very uneasy and potentially unsafe drive for my self and other drivers. This issue does appear to be progressing. The steering column will also make a knocking-like noise when turning in either direction, at all speeds and when idling. This issue is also progressing.
Found out I had a recall on my airbag and there's a recall on my steering column called the company and they say there's nothing they can do for me for the steering.
Backed out of my carport and the streering went out. I wrestled hard to turn the steering wheel and could finally steer the car back into my carport. This was the second time it happened. The first time the dealer could not repeat the problem, so I had to keep driving the car. The second time they fixed it by removing bad steering column, shaft, and totque sensor and installing those new parts. Paperwork says torque sensor is defective. It had internal electrical open circuit. I was moving very slowly, backing out of carport onto a street that does not have any through traffic and just runs in front of our villa's where we pull into our carports. I have read online where it has happened to other people and they had to keep driving the car and that is just too dangerous, just because they could not get it to do it for the dealer.
Steering column is making a loud clunking noise that sounds like loose linkage, especially when the car hits a bump . Bushing is gone/ missing?.
There is a recall on my car recalls are #174 and 160 and I am dealing with these issues unfortunately I have a problem because the airbags can't be fixed because there hasn't been a way to fix them. But I have noticed that there is a real hard shaking in and loud and aggressive tapping in the wheel column makes this sound when u go to a certain speed. For over 60 mph. The knocking goes fast and makes it difficult to steer the wheel especially, on the highway. I am very concerned about all of these issues with this car. Going to meet with the dealer in tomorrow to see how I can be assisted with this issue.
The steering wheel doesn't lock when the car is turned off. Steering wheel column pops when turning the steering wheel while driving.
Tl- the contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that the steering column experienced violent shaking when being operated approximately 60mph. The failure occurred without warning. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic where it was however the failure could not be determined. Suresky Hyundai was contacted and an appointment for diagnostic was made. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 170,000. Kh.
Tl the contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. While driving approximately 45 mph, the steering wheel began to shake severely. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was driven to the contact's residence. The contact also stated that the steering wheel started to become very loose in December of 2017 and progressively worsened. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who determined that the steering column needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was not notified of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 114,000.
The steering wheel has developed extensive play and has a "thump" noise that is felt when the car is sitting idle. During driving the column has play the is making the vehicle hard to control, although not to a very large extend, it was not there before. Steering play form center is about 3 inches when before it had none. During driving on a city road the steering is a challenge to maintain, bumps make it feel a if the column is loose the car sways in lane if driver is not paying close attention. Its been checked and everything seems to be tight, wheels and axles seem ok.
There is a clicking sound when I turn my steering wheel. I was told by a mechanic that there is a small plastic piece associated with my steering column that is broken and needs to be replaced. I don't know if this issue is potentially dangerous but I believe Hyundai should fix this issue for free. The clicking sound is loud and makes lots of noise when I go over bumps or turn the wheel.
The steering column is rattling.
I am appalled at the conditions I've had to endure with my Sonata. I've never seen or owned a more unsafe vehicle. My steering column broke, the engine was replaced twice, I've dealt with electrical problems, now it's involved in the airbag failure recall and I've needed to take my car in due to the 13 recalls. My Sonata is one of the first made. It's from the alabama plant. I would like to hear why the NHTSA has not made Hyundai buy these vehicles back? I don't have the option of just going out and buying a new vehicle. I've raised my granddaughters and am now afraid to take them anywhere in my car. I'm begging that you make Hyundai get these cars off the road. It sickens me to know I've owned several Hyundais. Given them my trust and dedication to only feel they've turned their backs on me and the safety of my family. I'd really like to be contacted. I have records of all my work done. The only thing I could not get was receipts for warranty items they determined I didn't need receipts for. Even after I complained and demanded them. My vehicle was purchased and serviced at superior Hyundai north in fairfield OH. I have so many records, even recordings, that I can't possibly upload them all on here.

The failure occurred without warning. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was not made aware. The failure mileage was 172715. Kh.

Security alarm does not work. Steering column jerks when hitting a bump on street or highway.
The steering column vibrates and makes loud banging noise when going over bumps and feels loose. When driving on the freeway the vibration and shaking and loud banging noise gets worse. The steering wheel feels very loose. Vehicle feels unsafe to drive. Vehicle out of warranty 109,000 miles.
My Hyundai Sonata 2013 steering column makes a clunk and knocking sound when turning the steering wheel. And recently it is getting worse especially when going over bumps and raises a cause of awareness as it is a manufacturing defect. I took it to the dealership, with an inspection and was told steering coupler needs replacement. At at 130, 000 miles I am out of warranty.
Have a clucking noise emanating from behind the counsel inline with steering column. I checked online and found a technical service bulletin for Hyundai and kia vehicles. I also located some videos on youtube on the replacement of the part that is the cause of most noises. The part in question is a flexible rubber coupling in the mdps (motor driven power steering) assembly. The technical service bulletin for Hyundai is TSB 14-st-002-1. I found a pdf with the information with pictures online and the date that is stated within it is may 2014. It does appear that they have a updated replacement coupling to replace the ones that are failing. When the coupling fails, it results in metal on metal contact. With that said, metal on metal contact over time may result in damage to the mdsp and have a higher dollar amount in repairs. I am hesitant in driving my 2012 Sonata very much as I am worried about safety. The safety of others along as myself.
The steering wheel makes a click when turned left and right started about a year after buying the car used and has gotten worse with time. When I took it to the dealer they told me it was the steering column motor mdps rubber coupler link had began to fail. This cause a dead zone in the steering wheel which gets worse with time. The link is a known failing part and cost $10 to replace the part but 300 for labor due to the steering column needing to be completely removed to replace the faulty rubber part.
The contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. While the vehicle was stationary or while driving various speeds, the steering wheel made a loud tapping noise when turned left or right. An independent mechanic was made aware of the failure and stated that the steering column was faulty. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer and dealer were not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
The steering column on my 2011 Sonata started making terrible noises due to a known issue with the steering shaft. Even though there is a formal NHTSA investigation NHTSA action number: pe10035) and recall (NHTSA recall no. . Read more...
Knocking in steering column, especially when going over bumps. Took to dealership, with only external inspection was told steering coupler needs replacement. At at 120, 000 miles out of warranty.
The steering column vibrates and makes noise when going over bumps and when going over 65 mph on the freeway the wheel vibrates and makes noise and feels loose. This problem has bern reported and there is a campign for 2010 models, but they are not willing to fix the problem because my car is a 2012 model.
Steering column motor mdps rubber flex coupler repair. Hyundai needs to have a recall on this - steering is off and misguided! dangerous to manuveur car on the road, traffic and on the freeway. Can't judge/guess the steering play if unforeseen happens and driver has to act quick to get car to safety. This is a common problem with the Sonata's and needs to be recalled because the steering column has to be taken apart to fit it.
The issue started to occurred recently when the vehicle reached 98,000miles on the odometer. I did a little troubleshooting myself and realize where the noise (clunk) was coming from. I came to a conclusion the steering column coupler , a rubber material that sit before the steering shaft was going bad. We never received by mail that Hyundai motor America was conducting such recall and that it was imminent to get it check out. But they added that my vehicle was expired from such recall. I believe this is a safety hazard and should be taken care of by the dealership.

The steering column should be defective, the wheel has a gap when you are driving and sound like metal vs metal, the same sensation when you get a bump, something in the steering column down there looks like unattached and sounds metal vs metal.
After purchasing this car in 2018, I learned this vehicle had many recalls. After disagreements and arguments Hyundai, supposedly installed a brand new engine. I was then notified that I would have to pay out of pocket for the other recalls on this vehicle. After more debates and arguments they cleared out all of the recalls on this vehicle as if they were fixed, and they were not fixed. This is a safety hazard and needs to be investigated. I still have many issues with the so-called recalls such as airbags, driver seatbelt and steering column.
My Hyundai Sonata 2013 steering column has always made a clunk sound when turning the steering wheel, recently it is getting worse and raises a cause of awareness as it is a manufacturing defect that apparently keeps being reported on this vehicle. Two personal mechanics and autonation have ad said it is the most common problem with my type of vehicle. I am afraid it will lock on me while driving causing an accident of any kind due to negligence of the governed standards required by law to protect consumers vehicle purchases. I deeply request and highly insist the government investigate the apparently most common problem of this vehicle before it becomes something to haunt the company in regret.
When car turns loud clicking sound comes from steering wheel. When going over bumps steering column makes loud noise.
