Wiring compartment under the front wheel well is completely eroded away which caused my vehicle to completely stop driving and turning on. When looking at the whole wiring harness under the wheel well, wires were completely falling out of where they connect to the fuses because of how bad the erosion is. I was driving my car with my 4 year old child in it on the highway and it started to jerk, lights started flashing on the dash, including the airbag light, and then all at once shut completely off, lights went out, would not start back up at all. I had it towed back to my house and now it will not start up at all. I replaced a bunch of parts to it and then that is when I discovered that it was the whole wiring box under the wheel well that had corrode a bunch of wires. When hooking up the battery to try and jump it to. See if it would start, the wires that were loose started sparking and almost caught fire.

I am submitting this complaint regarding my 2019 Jeep Compass, which suffered catastrophic engine failure at only 50,000 miles despite regular maintenance and timely oil changes. The vehicle has been well-maintained, with all scheduled oil changes performed on time using the recommended oil and filters. Despite this, the engine experienced a dropped cylinder, leading to total failure and requiring a full engine replacement. The manufacturer, Jeep (stellantis), refuses to cover the repair, stating that the vehicle is just outside its 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty due to the time limit. However, engine failure at only 50,000 miles is highly premature and raises concerns about possible defects in the engine design, materials, or assembly. Given that many modern engines last well beyond 100,000 miles with proper maintenance, I believe this failure may indicate a widespread manufacturing defect that could pose safety risks to other Jeep Compass owners. If the engine fails unexpectedly, it could cause loss of power while driving, creating a serious hazard for drivers and passengers. I request that the NHTSA investigate whether other Jeep Compass owners have experienced similar premature engine failures and determine if this issue requires a recall, extended warranty coverage, or manufacturer accountability. Jeep should not be allowed to avoid responsibility for major engine failures in vehicles with such low mileage. Safety concerns: •unexpected engine failure can lead to sudden loss of power, increasing accident risks. •if this issue is widespread, other Jeep Compass owners could face similar failures without warning. •the manufacturer should be held accountable for defects leading to premature catastrophic failures. I urge the NHTSA to investigate this issue and determine if a recall or extended coverage program is warranted to protect consumers from unexpected and costly failures.

My Jeep Compass falls under the problems of the s89 recall but my local dealer is stating my VIN doesn’t meet the recall. 1 it’s a safety issue 2 I will be going down the road and the engine completely shuts off and I have to coast to the side of the road turn the ignition off. And start it back sometimes I have to wait a few minutes before it’ll start back.

When I exited my car to enter my workplace on January 27, 2025, I noticed the radio had not turned off, which was unusual. I re-entered the car, turning the ignition on and off, hoping to shut the radio down. However, when I attempted to start the car, it made stalling noises, and would not turn on. After several attempts, the car turned on but the temperature gauge soared, and an error message about high coolant temperature appeared, causing the car to shut down immediately. I called my husband, who suggested waiting a few minutes before trying again. Fortunately, the car started, and I went into work, advised by my husband not to touch it until it was time to leave. Later, I drove directly to the Jeep dealership. Two days passed, and they dismissed the issue, unable to replicate it. Online research revealed this is a recurring problem with this model, raising my fears of the car shutting down unexpectedly in risky situations like driving on the highway.

When starting my 2019 Jeep Compass an error message stated "coolant temperature high" and "service brake system. " it then sputtered and shut down. I waited a minute and then restarted the vehicle. There was a lag for the car to start and then it went back to normal and no codes were present.

The (a) this automatically temporarily pause the idling of the engine when stopping at a light or stop sign. I’ve noticed that it’ll shut my car off completely as if the battery has died. I’ve been put in scary situations due to heavy traffic. I’ve held up traffic for at least 3-10 minutes. ( my battery is less than 2-3 yrs old). So, for now I’ve started turning that function off upon starting the car before I put it in gear. Any complaints about that anyone know of?.

The problem happened twice, this month: first incident, waiting at a red light, light turned green, I took foot off of the break and car turned off. Placed hazards on, put car into park and turned car off and then started back up. Reserving out driveway, went to shift from r to d and my car turned off. I placed the gear shift back into park and turned the car back on. There was no warning lights or lamps when this happened. I called the dealership where I purchased the car to confirm if there were any recalls. They asked for my VIN # and stated there was no recall for this type of problem. I found online that other 2016 Jeep Compass owners, did have the same issues occur and it was a crankshaft recall. Due to my manufacture date of 10-15, this was not considered a recall problem.

The engine is shutting down in the middle of driving. While driving and happening at random the vehicle will have a message populate stating coolant temp high. The engine will turn off and turn back on if the vehicle is being driven. If the vehicle is stopped and this happens the vehicle will shut down with same message car needs to be put in park from the drive mode and restarted. This has happened countless times and Jeep cannot fix the issue nor replicate as it happens randomly. This is a safety concern as it has happened on the highway and just stopped at time while driving. At the same time of this happening the check engine light comes on as well. The car has been to separate dealerships with neither of them being able to replicate the issue.

Stopped at stoplight. Engine start/stop was selected on and stopped engine per usual. Released brake and engine didn’t restart leaving vehicle un-powered in traffic. Shifted to park. Let vehicle recycle on/off power a few times. Engine was able to be restarted several minutes later. This happened before ~1 year ago and dealer replaced aux battery and torque sensors but couldn’t replicate failure and never disclosed any actual fault found.

On 4 separate occasions over a 5 day period, the electronic parking brake system spontaneously engaged. This caused the vehicle to lose power and slow until it came to a complete stop/stall. The epb indicator was displayed on the dash. I tried several courses of action to resolve the issue including putting the car in park, attempting to disengage the epb as well turning the vehicle off and on again. This issue presents itself with no prior warning. Fortunately, I was not highway driving during any of the mishaps. I was able to coast to the side of the road or to a parking lot safely. This issue presents itself a dangerous issue that other Jeep Compass owners are also experiencing with seemingly no true resolve from the Jeep manufacturer.

My 2018 Jeep Compass has an oil pump issue it seems. I read about previous scenarios and forums that had issues with this vehicle like mine. I would drive the vehicle and not within 5 minutes it will turn off half way down the road in the middle of an intersection that could have caused the lives of others and my child and myself. This vehicle is not safe at all! I have contacted and informed the dealership on multiple times about this issue.

My car is constantly burning about 4 quarts of oil in 2 months. It stalled on me 2 months ago, 2 months after an oil change because there was no oil in my car and I do not have a leak. It is a safety issue if my motor blows up or my car just stalls on me in the middle of the highway. I have had it inspected to see if there were any leaks. I only got a low oil pressure signal after I would make a turn.

My car shut off and wouldn’t start it said the asc failed I took it to the dealership they did a diagnostic test said my aux battery level was low need replaced I replaced that my engine light is still on I have to put it on a battery charger everyday so I can go to work then it wouldn’t start at work I needed someone to give me a jump it’s stills said I needed mine esc service and it saying my temperature is too high it only has 58. 884 miles on it I wish I never got this Jeep I bought it brand new and I had to replace both front tire rod ends I’m beyond upset it also said my car was not in park when it was it wouldnt start I overrided the gear shift but it still wouldn’t start.

My family's n is safety was at risk daily ,do to fear of the electric system being off ,changing speed and directtion of car falsely. 2continuly lights sources in panels on at night , unable to turn off . Navigation pulling vehicle off lane ,to opposite side of road in rain sleet heavy snow . Stays stuck on after air bags diddnt deploy in accident, caused by nav control and engine lag ? Jeep after I had it in macdonald motors bridgeton maine,the seller . 2x in first months . We owned it . I was told when I drove in 1 day early Dec . 2024 and called another 3 times day around 1st wk of . Told availability . Threw xmas . When I tried getting it in there in December, with my complaints of same issues,no appointment was able to be given . Until mid January no temporary vehicle offered . I asked ,was told that's too long . They couldn't offer me 1 . In August after issues with oil filter loosen x2 early oil changes and eating oil . . . They said same line if any update needed there nothing they can do that wasn't done . If Jeep doesn't release an update . . Late on Dec 11 after dash console lights staying on without keys . In am tried to cure problems. Got a additional problem . Windows speraticly were going up and down , after I hit up, at closing . Up then down . . Pissed off and up early for an appointment I designed I was going by macdonalds and dropping car off . And calling creditor . Getting my own car rental. I had an accident on the morning on my way to do this .

When driving home after work I came up to a red light and my car completely stalled. I had the start stop system turned off at the time. The car just stalled out and acted like the car needed to be started however when I attempted to restart the car it would not start. Although I was stopped when this happened I was in the middle of traffic and could not move my car to the side of the road since it stalled out with no warning. I had to be pushed to the side of the road. After several minutes (about 5) the car started again and I drove home. No check engine lights came on at the time however the next day the check engine light came on, I took it to have it checked out and was told they were "junk codes" and the check engine light went off later that same day.

Systematic electronic issues culminating in electronic failures while driving on highway including successive “shut-down” of electrical systems, all codes displayed including but not limited to the following: -forward collision -services transmission -service engine -service alternator -service ems system disruption to electrical functions including loss of power steering, acceleration, and brake system “locking” up. Tow service and repairs, required.

I was driving my 2019 Jeep Compass trailhawk and had just started to accelerate when my car showed a warning light for "high coolant temp. " the car subsequently lost all engine power and immediately initiated my parking brake. The car was stopped in the middle of the roadway, posing a serious danger risk to myself and other drivers. Had this occurred 30 more feet, I would've been in the middle of a railway crossing. After a few seconds, the temperature indicator returned to normal, though the car still had no power. I had to restart my car two times, then the issue was temporarily resolved and I was able to drive back to my house.

Car had high coolant temperature warning come up on dash and car went into limp mode but then just cleared and continued to drive fine. Recently had auxiliary battery replaced due to auto start/stop not working.

My car cuts off while driving, I took it to the dealership December 5th, 2024 and they said there’s a recall for the catalytic converter which makes my engine stall! in November 2024 while I was driving, it cut off while I was turning and traffic was heading my way! my wheel started to locked so I had to pressed on my brakes to control the wheel. I made an appointment to the dealership where I financed the car, but they told me they don’t have the part because it is back ordered, but by law since my car is a safety hazard for me and others. I should’ve received a loaner or a new car!.

The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 31,586.

I have replaced both batteries and the alternator. The stop/start light comes on and the red warning to pull over safely the vehicle will shut off soon and the engine light comes on. The vehicle is now telling me to service transmission. The dealer doesn't know what's wrong with it. I want this taken care of.

The crankshaft or camshaft sensor may only work intermittently, causing the engine to stall. There’s a recall on my car and the dealership won’t fix it.

Every 3000 to 5000 miles the car jerks like the transmission is slipping, the coolant temperature warning sign comes on, and the car shuts off while driving. No warranty will fix the issue and it is very unsafe to have your car shut off while on the highway driving 70mph. This has happened several times. Jeep dealer will not fix.

Thermostat keeps going to hot or stops working and drops to cold. Replaced thermostat coolant sensor since that’s what the code popped up. Didn’t work it continues to out. Radiator cap is collecting engine oil and not coolant. Engine oil is getting into my radiator hose. I had just got my radiator and stuff replaced by the dealership. I only had it for 6 months and been putting a lot of money in it and I’m still having engine and thermostat and radiator problems. Also it keeps smoking when it already has coolant in it.

Car engine turned off while driving, e brake was activated with out warning. Car stopped, and the d on the shaft was flashing, vehicle placed in park and was turned off by driver. Car would not restart and could not depress the brake. Car was stuck in the middle of road. After several attempts car sputtered on and was able to be driven to a safe location. No warning lights activated on car, initial eye inspection didn’t see anything out of place. No fluid leaking. Battery was operational entire time.

My car randomly turns off and I’ve had it looked at and they can’t find a problem I’ll have it reset and it soon starts randomly turning off while I drive. New batteries checked alternator.

On Thursday October 3rd I was driving in stop and go city traffic. After accelerating to leave from a light my Jeep died in the middle of the intersection. Total loss of power and slammed to a stop almost causing the person behind me to hit me. It started I drove it back to work. Later that day I left work and stopped to get gas. Turned it off, pumped my gas, went to go turn it back on and it wouldn't start. Just made an engine cranking sound. I hit the button a couple more times and it slowly cranked and started but it was sputtering and the dash and infotainment screen were very dimly lit. When I put it in drive it had no power, like it was in limp mode. I couldn't go past 20mph. My work was only around the corner so I drove it there and had it towed the next day to my closest Chrysler dealership. I have yet to hear back from them. My vehicle has 1,500 miles on it. . . Before this incident, I had lost power to my infotainment screen numerous times and while driving I've felt a jerking while accelerating. I do not feel safe in this vehicle.

I was stopped at a red light. When the light turned green, my car completely froze and stalled. Everything on my car locked up. I was not able to turn my car off.
