131 problems related to automatic transmission park/neutral start switch have been reported for the 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

The car was left running while in park. The vehicle evidently shifted into reverse it then rolled down an embankment and hit a mail box post before someone was able to get into the vehicle to get ist stoped. The only damage to the vehicle was the left front door hinge was sprung resulting in the door not closing properly. I have contacted Chrysler and they sent someone to investigate. The reply I received back was that there was no problem and they would not be responsible for any damages to the vehicle.

The transmission will not lock into the park position. It will slip into gear without pressing the button on the automatic stick shift.

My Jeep popped out of park with engine running and reversed into street, through the neighbor's yard, before finally coasting to a slow enough speed reversing up a hill that I could jump in and stop it. I was injured trying to catch up to the vehicle and open the door to get in just as it started rolling backward. Damage was to the neighbor's yard.

I parked my car while it was idling. When I got out the car was not moving. About 5 seconds after I shut the door and was walking away, the car started rolling backwards almost hitting a pedestrian. There was a passenger inside of the car who had locked the doors when I got out and then was unable to put the car into park and stop it. Vehicle was in park inside of a parking lot, consumer got out of vehicle for a few minutes, later the vehicle jumped out of gear, and hit a pole. Consumer states the accident caused damage to passenger side of the vehicle, rear bumper and side door.

The consumer pulled in front of garage and put the Jeep in park to open the door, when walking around it consumer noticed vehicle was rolling backwards. Consumer tried to jump into vehicle to stop it. As result of that front tire rolled up consumer's leg . Consumer depressed brake pedal by hand. When vehicle stopped it was on consumer's leg (between knee and pelvis). Please provide further information.
