1 Door Hinge problem of the 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 04/20/2006

Two issues. 1. The driver and passenger doors on the vehicle are not designed to stay open. They return with excessive force and have dinged ankles several times. Anyone more frail will have a cracked ankle. 2. The horn is too difficult to activate.

2 Door Hinge problem of the 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/07/2006

Brand new 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo, right front passenger door was being opened, a gust of wind caught the door and hyper-extended it causing it to be misalinged. The next time the door was opened, the front lip of the door caught on the rear of the right front fender and caused a dent in the fender approximately 6 inches long and 3 inches wide. To properly fix damage, right front fender was replaced and painted, right front door was repaired and repainted, hood was repainted to blend with new paint on fender and door. Total cost of repairs was approximately $1,300. Important to note, no other damage to any other vehicles, property or people was caused by this gust of wind. It happened in a grocery store parking lot and there were lots of other people, cars and property around. Nothing else was damaged and the gust of wind seemed very minor. In 30+ years of driving I have never experienced damage to a door due to a wind gust nor have I ever heard from anyone I know of receiving damage to a door due to a wind gust. This appears to me to be a door hinge design flaw.

3 Door Hinge problem of the 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/01/2006

We bought an 04' Jeep Grand Cherokee at Jeep Chrysler Dodge of warwick, the service engine light kept coming on. We took it down for service and they said it was the gas cap. The light still came on and had a hard time starting. We traded it in at the same place 1 month later for an 06 Jeep with 15,000 miles on it. Shortly after this purchase the 4 wheel drive started making horrible noises. We took it for service and they said that it was supposed to make that noise. After that the battery died and they towed it there and replaced the battery. Now we have problems with the Jeep stalling out when we are parked or at an idle. The front passenger side door has came loose from the weld breaking. Now it is hitting the front quarter panel and is chipping paint. All four doors are coming away from the welds causing a safety hazard to all of the passengers. We brought it down for the dealer to look at the doors and they kept putting us of because they said they did not have a loner car, or that the manager was not there, or that there body shop was not available. Now they say that we never brought it down to show them. Every time we brought it to them they never put it in the shop and made excuses for all of the problems. They never put in there computer that we came to them, with these problems and deny that we had any. The one time when they replaced the battery we picked it up with almost 150 extra miles on it. We have been extremely unhappy with the dealers service and the quality of the vehicle itself.

8 Door Hinge problem of the 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/08/2000

Driver side door hinge bolts are brittle and broke resulting in the hinge separating from the body frame. Owner took photos of broken bolt in hingle assembly and has broken part to show a poor cast of the bolt. Owner drilled out and replaced one bolt until taken to dealer. Dealer does not believe this is a serious issue and wishes to charge for replacement. However, the failure of both bolts of one hinge allowed the door to be unsafe for vehicle operation. What would have happened if this occured during movement of the vehicle? my question is could this be a result of a bad batch of bolts and has this occured to another vehicle?.

11 Door Hinge problem of the 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/01/1998

On the evening of December 1, 1998, I had my 1998 Grand Cherokee in park with the door open while I was getting my mail from a bank of mailboxes. While I was out of the car, it started to roll backwards, even though it was sitting on level ground. The open door hit the bank of mailboxes and I was able to get into the car to stop it. I reported this to the insurance company since I needed to have the drivers door replaced. The car was in park, and after I got in to stop it from rolling backwards, it was still in park. I never reported this to Jeep because no one believed me and it has not happened since then. The Jeep was leased, and I turned it in on June 27, 2001 to gene's Chrysler in fairbanks, alaska. However, after reading about this happening to other Jeeps in the la times, I wanted to file my complaint also.
