On the drivers door, the plastic of the panel supporting the interior door handle has broken leaving the handle unmounted and useless. Obviously, this is a safety hazard as it takes more time to egress the vehicle in an accident.

Driving home from a soccer game with 3 kids and myself in a 2002 Jeep. I was coming to a stop, when I lost control of the SUV. The frame of the Jeep broke from rust. The Jeep had the underside coated when it was purchased. Jeep did nothing to help solve this problem, and it had to go to the salvage yard. I will never own another Jeep product. My auto body shop said the other side was almost rusted through also, so repair cost would more than it would be worth. The only thing was that moments before the break, I was going 65 on a 2 lane highway and had it broke then I would have had a really bad accident.

2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee - heater core leakage led us to take up carpet - both driver's side and passenger side holes in the frame which hold the seats down to the body, were rusted through. Cause - water trap (design flaw) in design of the unibody, and no undercoating to help prevent such occurrence. Frame metal is approx. 1/8th inch thick. Areas affected were cut out and new metal welded in (by private party - not dealer. I do have the pieces which were cut out. ) should there have been a collision, the seats would have broken loose from the frame and serious injuries would have occurred. Other comments made on this same vehicle, to include ours, relate how the actual seat frame breaks. Metal found when this occurred is weakened - not re-enforced to prevent breakage.

The passenger side window on my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo will not roll up (after dropping down into the door on the highway).
Fuel tank is below the protection of the rear bumper, made of plastic, and not protected by any means from rear impact from another vehicle.
The interior door panels (all 4) at the handle are cracking and breaking. Many times the doors have to be opened from the outside. I contacted Jeep and was told they have never heard of this problem, that I was the only person to report it. They told me it was normal wear and tear and that they were not responsible.
2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee front drivers seat broke. Seat detached from floor. Trying to repair. Very dangerous to drive.
This incident started with a clunking noise we thought was the muffler system, in fact, the day before the car failed we had the muffler replaced. On 6/17/09 while our daughter was driving, the vehicle veered sharply to the left, she pulled over, a police officer assisted and followed her for a while to see what the problem was. It didn't do it while the police officer watched. After the police officer left, the vehicle lurched again and our daughter pulled over and called her father, he drove the vehicle and that is when the frame broke and the support to the rear axle separated from the frame. The rear wheel on the passenger side was bound against the front of the rear wheel well leaving the vehicle completely undriveable. The vehicle was then put on a trailer and delivered to our mechanic. We paid our mechanic to repair it before we thought of pursuing a claim through Chrysler. We contacted Chrysler and was given a case no. 18690533 and was told we needed to take it to a Jeep dealer. As instructed by Chrysler, we took the vehicle to royal Chrysler in owego, new york. Royal was very friendly and supportive to us and after inspection, stated it was the "most corroded underbody they had every seen" and communicated the same to Chrysler directly. Chrysler was not at all interested in entertaining our claim and stated it was too far out of warranty. We currently own 3 Jeeps and expected Chrysler to stand behind their product. It is not a vehicle we feel comfortable having our teenage daughters drive. After numerous telephone calls to Chrysler by both the dealer and ourselves, they flatly refused to entertain the claim and even refused to allow us to even talk to a manager. The potential for what could have happened to all 3 of our daughters (all 3 were in the car at the time) had they been driving on the highway at 60 mph is frightening. The fact that Chrysler is unwilling to recognize and correct this situation is unacceptable.

My son's 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee driver's seat started wobbling and then completely broke loose from the frame. He is 240 lbs and was just driving normally. Over time . . . The wobbling gradually got worse. The seat completely broke loose as he was accelerating after waiting for a stop light. I removed the seat to see what was wrong and saw that both brackets that are welded to the front rod that runs parallel with the front of the drivers seat were cracked and the front bolt on the door side of the drivers seat ripped right through the flimsy metal bracket on the base of the seat. This structural defect is "life threatening. " he almost fell backwards into the back seat. Had there been other cars coming at this intersection, he would not have been able to react. I checked the internet and saw that this seat/structural defect on Jeeps goes back to 1999. How can the NHTSA and Jeep/Chrysler ignore this problem for years? this should be a safety recall. Jeep should be held responsible for fixing this problem now. Given all the blogs related to this issue . . . They sure won't win in court.
Consumer states that the rotors wore out. Dealer notified repaired and replaced 8 months later problem reoccurred. Causing the vehicle to shake. Mr the consumer also stated that the vehicle would vibrate violently whenever brakes were applied-new rotors installed, which were suppose to fix the problem, and a year later the problem happened again, more severely. There's a shimmy in the front wheels when braking-per invoice. Different specialists have raised the issue and trying to get to the root of the frame out of alignment. Scc.

The courtsey Jeep (755 rockville pike, rockville MD. 301 424 17000 stated that this breakage is not a normal occurrence. Metal is a stess break.
This vehicle has cost us over $3,000 in the first 1 year and half we have owned it. I have never owned a vehicle with this little of mileage and had everything go up. We feel this auto is a total lemon and people should be made aware of the problems of this particular vehicle. We have never towed anything nor had it on anything other surface other than a paved road. I'm not sure what if anything you can do for us, but letting the NHTSA know about this vehicle is some reassurance. What really upsets me is that we bought this vehicle from a supposed reputable dealer. Thank you for your time. I'd appreciate any information you can provide me on this particular vehicle as far as any other owner complaints etc. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter. No safety defect listed within summary.
