I went to open my driver's door this morning and it wouldn't open, had to open it from the inside. After open the door would not shut and latch. The plastic on the inside of the door handle is cracked and bad. Common problem, Chrysler group should recall this is a safety issue among many Grand Cherokees.

I haven't been in a wreck yet; but this is more of preventative measure. I have looked at multiple sites and seen where there have been thousands of complaints on interior door handles breaking off. I notified Chrysler and they told me that was the 1st they have heard of it, and was willing to do anything about it. All four of my handles have broken off and I have rigged up the driver door, but as far as passengers they wouldn't be able to get out if their was an emergency. I would think Jeep would step up and issue a recall on this poorly made product.

Jeep door handles are faulty. The plastic surrounding the door handle is a faulty product. The plastic starts cracking and falling apart. Then the actual handle has no support and begins to have problems. I can no longer lock the vehicle properly. Three doors are affected thus far.

I just bought a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited 5. 7l hemi and after purchasing the vehicle, I noticed that the rear passenger side interior door handle had snapped off so that you are unable to open the door from the inside. The front passenger side door handle is cracked, but not completely broken off yet. There is some spider cracking on the rear drivers side handle as well. After doing a little research, I realized that it's not a part that can just be replaced, it must be replaced by Jeep and can cost upwards of $3,000. I see this as a very urgent safety issue because if I get in a car wreak or there is a fire, my passengers and I would have trouble exiting the vehicle. This is a problem that needs to be addressed by Jeep and soon before this takes a tragic turn.

All four of my door handles are cracked. I can no longer open my rear doors from the inside because the handle is completely busted. My two front handles are almost the same. If I have passengers riding in the back seat I have to open their door from the outside. I fear that if I'm ever in an accident no one will be able to exit the vehicle unless an outside person in present. This is a very serious and dangerous situation, and I feel that Jeep has a responsibility to its consumers to fix such a safety issue.

The plastic interior door panels are breaking at the door handles. When the cracks proceed far enough the interior door handles break off trapping occupants inside. All four doors are broken, the driver's door least of all. It is not a wear and tear issue but a real safety concern.

My door handles on 4 of my doors (not one or two but four) on the inside have cracked, some cracked where one is unable to open the door from the inside which now makes this a safety issue. This is problem because the plastic in the doors are so brittle that any force can cause the handle to break. I have approached Jeep about the issue and they do not even listen to my complaint and said I just had to buy a new replacement door panel. A door panel to replace a faulty door handle is quite unacceptable and not a logical excuse for their bad and very cheap product. You pay good money to stay with an american vehicle but with excuses like this make me want to buy foreign. Something needs to be done as I have researched the issue to find many people in my same situation. . .

We have purchased a used 2005 Jeep with 2 broken door handles. Searching the internet shows that this is a common problem with these Jeeps. This is truly a safety hazard seeing as no one could escape this vehicle should there be an accident. Since this is a problem many seem to have, I feel Jeep needs to step up and repair this very serious issue!.

Interior door handles are cracked and starting to break. Contacted Jeep and they indicated that it is acknowledged as a weak component and that in some instances has been replaced. However, because of the age of my car, they refused to replace it as a warranty item. I emphasized on the safety aspect of passengers being trapped inside my car but they just indicated that there is nothing that they can do about it.

I have a 3 yr old son that sits in the seat where the handle is breaking. If there was an accident or emergency I want the door to be able to open. If the handle breaks, because of a manufacturer defect, and he cuts his hand on the jagged plastic I think that could cause a lawsuit. If I have an adult in the back seat and there is an emergency the person may not be able to exit. This is not safe or acceptable.

Just concerned about the interior door handles breaking. The front 2 are both cracked and pieces falling out leading to the door handles failing if emergency exit required.

I opened the door to get out and the interior driver's side handle broke off of the door panel. I went to the dealer and the handle is part of the door panel. The handle's hinge is set in plastic which happens to be in the same one piece door panel. The door panel has to be replaced ($795 for the part and $259 for the installation). On line I noticed that there were many complaints with this problem. It is possible to get locked in the car.

I just recently purchased a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee for over $14,000. Within the first month before I have even made my first payment 3 of the 4 interior door handles have broken. I went back to the dealer and was told this is an issue that has to be taken up with the manufacturer. After coming home and doing research on the internet I have seen endless complaints of this happening, but yet nothing has been done to correct this safety hazard by Chrysler. Imagine for a moment your in an accident and are unable to open your car door to free yourself, or even worse your child. I cannot imagine this is an issue that Chrysler would not take care of. For all three handles to break at once is unbeivable and for Chrysler to feel they do not owe the consumer a recall to rectify this situation is mind boggling. I personally have called and voiced my opinion and was told to fix it myself. Believe me I will be going to my lawyer in the morning to see what needs to be done to file a class action suit against Chrysler and to also have documentation that I have voiced my concern about this safety hazard to no avail.

The plastic wells behind all four interior door handles have broken, leaving a gaping hole ringed by sharp spikes of plastic shards. This occurred prior to my purchasing the vehicle on the date indicated as the date of the incident. This is a widely reported issue. The next stage of the failure is that the interior door handles will eventually break out of the door and come off into the door operator's hand, requiring the door to be opened from the outside. Once this occurs, the failure will become a significant safety risk as passengers will be unable to open the door from the inside, effectively trapping them inside in the event of a severe accident or fire. Jeep has fielded thousands of complaints about this particular failure and numerous videos made by unhappy consumers have been posted to youtube and other similar sites. Jeep currently charges $500-$700 to replace the entire door panels while a niche market has been created by individuals selling injection molded replacement parts that Jeep does not sell. This is an unacceptable solution and Jeep needs to issue a recall. It becomes a minor safety issue the moment our fingers come into close proximity of the sharp plastic shards surrounding the opening, and it becomes a major safety issue the moment we and our passengers are no longer able to open a door from inside the vehicle. Please make this happen.

All door handles inside vehicle are broke. You cannot open the vehicle unless you roll window down and open door from the outside. This is a safety issue. If there is no power to vehicle to roll window down, you will be stuck in the vehicle. In an emergency situation, you will not be able to exit vehicle. Several complaints from 2003-2008 filed about same issue from multiple models. A recall needs to be issued.

Front driver-passenger side door panels. I recently discovered that my front driver and passenger door panels have cracked around the interior door handle. The cracks have progressed to the point where the door handles dislodged from the panel from repeated use. The cost of each panel is $770. 00, excluding labor. The dealer where purchased stated "there is nothing we can do about it. " what's disconcerting is that the back of panel shows reinforcement (thicker plastic) for the window buttons but the material is paper-thin for the door handle. Once the door handle falls off, the only way to open the door is to roll down the window and push the exterior button. I have filed a complaint with Chrysler.

Interior door handles are made with material that do not support the normal wear and tear. Clearly a safety hazard to be riding a vehicule, whether as the driver or passenger, and if an emergency calls for you to abandon it, as you pull the handle to open your door the handle brakes in your hand and cannot open the door. In the event of an emergency, we are talking, not about minutes, but seconds to react and move away from danger. Failure to open, could represent the difference between minutes and seconds that could prevent major injury if not death in case of an accident.

The plastic interior door panel supporting the interior door handle on all four doors has cracked and broken. One of the rear door handles does not function at all from the interior of the car due to the broken interior door panel posing a safety risk to the passenger potentially trapping them inside the car.
