41 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2013 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 08/23/2016

On my 2013 Jeep Wrangler sahara unlimited (lhd), the airbag light is on and chimes every few minutes. The airbag light comes on after I start the engine. The light stays on and dashboard chimes while driving. This indicates that something is wrong with the airbag system. Mechanics have told me this is a faulty "clockspring". This raises concerns that my airbag will not deploy during an accident or will deploy prematurely. Daimler Chrysler has refused to replace this part under the current recall. When calling Chrysler, I was told the current recall is for 2007 and up right hand drive models only even though they use the same part number. I had a 2007 Wrangler (lhd) years ago that was included in a recall for the clockspring. The recall work was completed on my previous 2007 Wrangler for the same part number. I would like an answer as to why my 2013 Jeep Wrangler (lhd) is not included in the recall if the same part number is the problem. It is my understanding that the repair will cost $520 which I do not believe I should pay if other Jeep Wranglers are having this job completed for free. If my safety is not a concern, please consider the safety of my wife and daughters, and move to include all Jeep Wrangler models with clockspring part number 68339336aa.

The contact sustained chest and hand injuries and whiplash, but did not require medical attention. A police report was filed. The contact resumed driving and the vehicle shook violently with an abnormal noise coming from the engine. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the power steering damper and motor mount detached and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000.

43 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2009 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 07/11/2016

Takata recall. The contact owns a 2009 Jeep Wrangler 4-dr 4x4. The contact stated that the driver crashed into a pole while driving at an unknown speed. The air bags failed to deploy. The air bag warning light illuminated. A police report was not filed and no injuries were reported. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign numbers: 16v290000 (air bags) and 16v352000 (air bags), but the parts were unavailable for the repair. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 145,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

44 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2010 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 06/11/2016

This vehicle had two front end accidents in 6 months and neither time the air bag did not deploy. First accident involved while sitting at a red light another vehicle collided with the left front bumper, damage to front bumper $1000. 00. Second accident was much more serious, the vehicle was forced off the road at 40 mph and into a direct head on accident with a telephone pole. $15,000 damage and bent frame carriage motor support and front drive axle. Again no airbag deployment.

45 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2011 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 06/01/2016

I received 2 emails from NHTSA in may 2016 regarding the failed air bags due to failed clockspring assembly. Two (2) weeks later my indicator light came on because the airbags failed. The Jeep dealership said if I got into a crash, the airbags would not deploy. However, I was forced to pay for this manufacturer's defect. This was clearly a manufacturer's defect and a safety issue. I shouldn't have had to pay for this. The information your agency provided is as follows: NHTSA campaign id number :16v288 manufacturer :Chrysler (fca us llc) make / model years :Jeep / 2011-2016 subject :clockspring assembly may become contaminated.

46 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2013 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 05/14/2016

I own a 2013 Jeep Wrangler, I take my Jeep off-road every weekend. Living in las vegas, nv, I can keep the top off 10 months out of the year. Living in the desert, it's also very dusty here. In may of 2016, I was on an off-roading trip, when the airbag light came on. I took it to the dealer, and they told me it was the clockspring. They quoted me $700. 00 to fix it. . . I didn't have the money, so I paid them the $150. 00 diagnostic fee. . . Two days later, the first recall for clockspring came out. I called the dealer back, they looked up my VIN #, and said my vehicle was not included in the recall. Since then several more recalls have been issued, but my vehicle is still not listed. I did research on clocksprings, and found out the reason they go out is due to dust, frequent off-road, and removing the top. All of which describes my Jeep. In addition to the airbag not deploying, the clockspring effects the horn, as well as other controls on the steering wheel. I have written several emails to Jeep, Chrysler, and mopar. I have discussed this issue on several Jeep forums sites, asking for help. If the recall covers only some 2013 models, but my model matches the circumstances surrounding the recall issue, then I believe mine should be included in the recall.

47 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2011 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 05/04/2016

The contact owns a 2011 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that the air bag warning light illuminated sporadically and chimed. The chime indicated that the air bag needed to be deployed; however, the air bag never deployed. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the air bags clock spring failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The manufacturer stated that the failure was related to NHTSA campaign number: 13v176000 (air bags). The manufacturer stated that because the recall indicated a right-hand drive and the contact had a left-hand drive, the repair was not covered under the recall. The approximate failure mileage was 83,454.

48 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 04/24/2016

While driving my 2008 Jeep Wrangler the clocksrping malfunctioned and broke while going around a turn on my neighborhood street. My air bag light came on and a small ribbon came out of the steering column. This also disabled my horn. When I took it to my mechanic he asked about a recall on this part because this is not a common issue. I looked and saw that there in fact was a recall on the right handed vehicles for 2008 but not left handed drive vehicles as well as 2007 Jeeps had the recall. I am hopeful that this can also be recalled in 2008 left hand drive vehicles as it is not something that should go bad unless your vehicle is left in the rain dust or dirty environments, which is not how my Jeep is ever stored. I am happy that I was on a neighborhood street when this happened and that the air bag did not deploy!.

49 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 04/19/2016

Takata recall; s33/ NHTSA 16v-290. While travelling forward at approximately 35 to 40 mph in a straight direction, a vehicle turned left in front of me and our vehicles collided. Unable to apply any sort of braking, my Jeep's front center and front left side struck the left front, left front quarter-panel, and driver's side door of the other vehicle. My Jeep spun approximately 45 degrees to the left before coming to a stop with the other vehicle. My airbag did not deploy as a result of the crash. I suffered injuries to my left hand, left thumb, left wrist, left forearm, left shoulder, left side of my neck, left scapula, chest, right hip, left knee, left, shin, and lower back. As of this time, I am still treating my injuries. The impact force was enough to bend my steering wheel as well.

50 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2013 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 03/09/2016

With only 58,306 miles on my 2013 Jeep Wrangler, the clock spring has failed and air bag system will not deploy. In addition, this poses abandonment concerns as many users with similar problems find their vehicle will not start. I contacted my dealership today (northwest Jeep Chrysler Dodge) and was dismayed at an almost $700 repair bill to regain airbag protection, even though fca has issued a recall for this same part number, but only in 2007 rhd vehicles. This is the same part!.

51 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2015 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 02/28/2016

Vehicle airbags failed to deploy in Jeep Wrangler during a motor vehicle collision with another vehicle that failed to yield right of way (both vehicles in motion) which resulted in front end impact and Jeep tipping over to rest on passenger side.

52 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2010 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 02/15/2016

Air bag warning light and charm come on, failed clock spring, very common issue on these Jeep Wranglers, very dangerous as air bag will not deploy in a collision.

53 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2010 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 01/16/2016

On the 2010 Jeep Wrangler (lhd) dashboard, the airbag warning light flashes on every other minute with a chime, an indication that there is something malfunctioning or interfering with the vehicle's airbags. This has been a recurring issue and concern for many 2010 Jeep Wrangler (lhd) owners, including myself, and has been shown time and time again to be caused by a faulty clockspring within the vehicle's steering wheel. This faulty clockspring is the culprit for potential airbag failure in the 2010 Jeep Wrangler (lhd) during an accident or premature deployment when simply driving around. Fiat Chrysler has refused to address the safety concern of their faulty clockspring that can cause failure of the vehicle's airbags from properly deploying. My Jeep Wrangler has just over 50k miles and both the esp / bas light and the airbag warning light have begun flashing and chiming intermittently. I was told by fiat Chrysler that the clock spring on the 2010 (lhd) is not included in the clock spring extended warranty available to other model years and the rhd version on the same model year. The clock spring is the same in all of the affected vehicles and represents a potential threat of serious injury or death should the airbag fail to deploy in an accident or deploy prematurely.

54 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 01/06/2016

Airbags- on Jan 06, 2016 I was involved in an auto accident in my 07 Jeep jk the impact was at 35 miles per hour and conditions wet (rain). A vehicle failed to yield and we impacted, however, our airbags did not deploy and the other vehicles airbags did. The damage was moderate and chevy tahoe received more severe damage. I filed a complaint with Chrysler and they are inspecting the vehicle. I am very concerned, my wife and daughter were very sore after this accident and all wore their seat belts, wife is afraid to drive her Jeep now and says it is not safe. Cair #28562532.

55 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 01/01/2016

The airbag light comes on intermittently when the vehicle is in motion. I've been told that the clock spring is what is causing it. This same part has been recalled on the rhd vehicle but not the lhd. Ive been told that this could cause the airbags to not deploy in the event of a crash. I also see this is becoming a very common problem on this year model.

56 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2009 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 12/12/2015

The contact owned a 2009 Jeep Wrangler. While driving 35 mph, another vehicle crashed into the driver side of the contact's vehicle. The air bags failed to deploy. The driver sustained a head bump, but did not require medical attention. A police report was filed. The vehicle was destroyed and towed to the dealer's collision body shop. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 91,000.

57 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2009 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 11/01/2015

My 2009 Jeep Wrangler 4x4 has a issue regarding the air bag warning light. The light comes on intermittantly and the warning bell will go off. While I am driving. I am concerned that my air bag will not deploy when or if it is needed. I know this is a problem with theses Jeeps and wonder why no recall? I am told it could be a clockspring problem.

58 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2003 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 10/31/2015

The Jeep was involved in a wreck - hit a power pole at around 50 mph knocked it down and the flipped the air bags never deployed - the police officer who worked the wreck said the airbags should have deployed after the type of hit the Jeep took.

59 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2009 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 10/24/2015

The air bag warning keeps going off, sometimes while just driving down the road and especially when turning the steering wheel. It is my understanding that under this condition the drivers air bag will fail to deploy. Has this been recalled or still under investigation ?.

60 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2009 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 10/15/2015

Air bag light remains on, therefore the air bag may not deploy as intended in an accident. This is a known problem with the 'clock spring' as Jeep is recalling certain model years and not others - Jeep needs to recall and fix this safety issue on all Jeep models, not just a select few.

61 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2010 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 10/05/2015

I was driving to work on 10-5-15 when a drunk driver pulled out in front of me, I had no time to stop but when my 2010 Jeep Wrangler unlimited hit their vehicle, I immediately smelled and saw smoke comming from the engine compartment of my Jeep. I drove to the side of the road where I quickly got out and made it just in time because the vehicle quickly burst into flames. My airbags also did not deploy which I thought odd because I was traveling around 45 mph at the time of the accident.

62 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2012 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 10/02/2015

I was involved in a single vehicle collision, with "multiple front end impacts" and significant damage to the vehicle. I was driving approximately 35-40 mph, when I hydroplaned (this is my best guess, I really don't note what happened), and veered to the shoulder. The Jeep then went off the road, drove through a deep rain-filled ditch, hit the front end of that ditch, launching the Jeep airborne. During that impact, the front axle was ripped off. I then landed in another ditch (a culvert with 2 cement walls), where the Jeep bounced twice on the cement wall, cracking the frame each time, then landed in the ditch, where I kept going until I hit a small construction pole. My Jeep had the additional side airbag package. Despite the severity of the crash, my airbags did not deploy, and my seat belt never tightened. This resulted in me being thrown forwards and backwards multiple times (at least 3 that I recall). I suffered a tbi, and missed 2. 5 months of work. I had to quit my second job. I have also had ongoing neck pain, initially thought to be muscular. An mri recently completed shows disk herniation of c3-c6.

63 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2012 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 10/02/2015

I was involved in a single vehicle accident on 10/2/2015 involving 2012 Jeep Wrangler, my vehicle jerked to the right suddenly causing me to lose control. The Jeep was jerked off the road into a ditch on the right, hit the front end of the ditch and was launched airborne, then crashed on the cement wall of a second ditch, bouncing twice before landing in the ditch and hitting the front end of that ditch. I repeatedly slammed on my brakes but they did not engage. My airbags did not deploy. My seat belt tensioner did not engage, causing me to be thrown forward and backwards repeatedly. I suffered a closed head injury and herniations to multiple discs in my neck as well as trauma to the facet joints in my neck, resulting in severe foraminal stenosis at multiple levels that requires neurosurgical intervention. I slammed my head on the steering wheel 4 times, my chest once. This accident forever changed my life. I have repeatedly called fca to file a formal complaint, am always told someone will call me back. It's been almost two years and no one has called me back. I was given a case number and told someone would come look at my vehicle to inspect it, never happened. As I face urgent surgery to my spine with pain to my neck radiating down my right arm, all I can think about is Chrysler. They recalled 2016-2017 Jeep Wranglers for faulty wiring of the occupant restraint control module, as well as Jeep patriots and compasses made the same year as my vehicle along with millions of other Chrysler vehicles. Fca refuses to return my phone calls, how many more people are they ignoring? they need see what happens when they don't recall all vehicles built with the same components, knowing there are more vehicles not included in the recall that pose a safety risk.

64 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2012 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 10/02/2015

I was involved in a single vehicle accident on 10/5/15, traveling approximately 30mph, when my Jeep suddenly jerked to the right without warning, causing it to swerve off the road and into a ditch. The Jeep hit the front end of the ditch at an angle that launched it airborne, then landed on the cement wall of a culvert approximately two feet away. The Jeep bounced twice on the cement wall, cracking the frame in two places, then landed in the culvert, hit the front end of the culvert, then hit a small pole where it finally stopped. Despite slamming on the brakes the entire time, nothing in the vehicle seemed to be working. My airbags did not deploy and my seatbelts did not engage, causing me to slam my forehead on the steering wheel with each impact (3-4 times, I honestly don't recall) and hitting my chest once on the steering wheel. I called Chrysler to report the incident after the insurance adjuster raised concerns about the airbags not deploying, and was given a case number and told I would be contacted. After a number of further attempts to contact them, they have refused to return my calls or acknowledge my complaints. I am now aware of a number of recalls regarding the orc module in many Chrysler vehicles, and wonder if this could have been a contributing factor in my accident. I suffered a severe concussion and was out of work for three months. I had to quit my second job, causing significant financial strain on my family. I have since had chronic neck pain and migraines, an mri showed traumatic disc herniations at c2-6, for which I have to see a neurosurgeon. I have had multiple injections and other procedures on my neck since the accident, but continue to have pain daily. At my request, my insurance company has kept the totaled Jeep, untouched, in a secured lot, until I can find someone to help me determine why the seatbelts failed to protect me.

65 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2012 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 10/02/2015

I was involved in a single vehicle collision, with "multiple front end impacts" and significant damage to the vehicle. I was driving approximately 35-40 mph, when the vehicle jerked to the right I hydroplaned (this is my best guess and veered to the shoulder. The street is narrow, with only a very thin shoulder. 66 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 10/02/2015

The air bag light came on and dings every 30 secs, the horn doesn't work. I made an apt with the dealership there was no sense of urgency to get me in, dropped it off on a Friday to be told to bring it back today. They quickly diagnosed the problem as air bag clockspring wiring failure and explained if I were in an accident the air bags would not deploy. This is a $420. 00 fix to repair a safety issue, and lucky for me they happen to have the part just laying around. Sounds to me that this is a common problem with Jeep. Jeep has a recall for right hand drive vehicles but not for the left like I have.

67 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 07/10/2015

July 10, 2015: driving to work approximately 8:15 am cst. Car in front of me stopped suddenly and I felt the breaks were not slowing the vehicle down enough to avoid impact. With a vehicle on my right, my only option was to go left. I never saw the truck in the oncoming lane and hit head on. The airbag did not deploy on the driver's side. It did deploy on the passenger side, but no one else was in the vehicle with me. The upper body portion of the seat belt did not restrain me and I slammed face first into the steering wheel. I suffered a broken and dislocated wrist that required surgery, severe bruising of face, arms, chest, hips and legs. I feel this is a huge safety concern and should be rectified immediately.

68 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 06/08/2015

The clockspring in the steering column has failed causing the air bag warning light to intermittently alarm. This indicates that the airbag will not deploy in the event of a crash. This vehicle is left hand drive.

69 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2010 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 05/07/2015

Air bag light comes on and warning sound goes off intermittently. Researched the internet and there are a large number of complaints for the same symptoms. Appears to be a defective clock spring for which Chrysler issued a recall but only on right hand drives. Contacted Chrysler and they don't believe it is an issue. I'm concerned that my air bag will not deploy in the event of a crash. If this is an issue in right hand drives, not sure why it would not apply to all. They do use the same clock spring.

70 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 05/01/2015

Air bag light is on. Horn and cruise also quit working when this occurred. Rear ended a lady last fall and airbag failed to deploy, not sure it should have but still didn't. Can not ever fill the gas tank full due to fuel spilling out of the fill tube onto the ground, can get slightly more that 3/4 full.
