38 Air Bag problem of the 2016 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 06/10/2025

I recently got into an accident in my 2016 Jeep Wrangler. My airbags never deployed however. Also my buttons on the left side of my steering wheel do not work and my horn does not work. After realizing all this I believe it is an issue with the clock spring. I did research and found in 2024 there was a recall for the clock spring but only in the rhd model. My car is a lhd model but it seems the same issue has occurred and my clock spring failed.

39 Air Bag problem of the 2016 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 06/09/2025

The contact owns a 2016 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that upon attempting to alert a gateman using the horn, the horn failed to function. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the clock spring. The contact was informed that the clock spring needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 16v288000 (air bags), but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 106,000.

40 Air Bag problem of the 2021 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 06/05/2025

In June 2025, I brought my vehicle to the dealership (hendricks Chrysler Dodge birmingham, al) for a full diagnostic inspection, and at that time I was told everything was fine. There were no warnings, no notes about electrical issues, airbags, coolant leaks, engine leaks, or any of the major concerns now being reported. On my most recent visit (October 2025), the dealership suddenly reported multiple “immediate attention” failures, including: • airbag system issues • electrical system failure • coolant system leak • water pump leak • engine oil separator leak these items were never mentioned during my previous full diagnostic despite being safety-related components that typically show symptoms or codes. Because these new issues involve critical components like the airbags, engine, and electrical system, my safety was put at risk. I have been driving the vehicle daily under the belief that it had passed a full diagnostic months earlier. If these problems really existed at that time, then I was unknowingly operating an unsafe vehicle. If they did not exist, then the sudden appearance of multiple major failures raises concerns about incorrect diagnostics or improper prior inspection. I have not received any warning lights except the airbag light. The dealership has not provided a clear explanation as to how these issues appeared only months after a full inspection. This has caused significant concern regarding vehicle safety, diagnostic reliability, and whether the previous inspection was performed correctly. I am requesting NHTSA review because the dealership failed to identify or disclose major safety-related failures, which has potentially placed me in danger without any warning.

41 Air Bag problem of the 2014 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 05/05/2025

The clock spring has been identified as being bad, (nothing in the steering wheel works). I have owned it for 5 years and it hasn't worked for at least 3-4 of those years. I don't know if it has been replaced. . . However, for something that is a safety concern, such as the airbags, I would think that it would work longer than 1-2 years. . . If it has been previously replaced. I can't find any records of it. The air bag lights have been on for a few years; I thought it was normal. I wasn't aware of any recalls on the clock spring/air bags until recently.

43 Air Bag problem of the 2022 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 04/19/2025

Was driving to work and the car failed to let me know I was going to hit something and I swerved into another lane creating a crash into a telephone pole and then into a pond/swamp area. The airbags did not deploy and I was going about 40 mph I suffered neck back and bruises to my arms. I am suffering servers neck pain. The car filled with water. The car did say it detected a crash but no air bags deployed after the telephone being straight in the middle. The car was totaled. Nothing appeared. No warning signs. I believe the car has been taken to salvage. If I had the air bags go off I would not have been hurt as bad with my neck back and arm pain. It was thrown violently.

44 Air Bag problem of the 2023 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 04/18/2025

The contact owned a 2023 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that while her husband was driving through an intersection at 40 mph, another driver ran a stop light and crashed into the front driver's side of the vehicle. The other driver's vehicle went underneath the contact's vehicle as the contact's back tires drove over the other driver's engine. The other driver admitted fault due to distracted driving. The contact stated that no air bags deployed inside the vehicle; however, the other vehicle did have the air bags deploy. The contact and her husband were seen by paramedics at the scene of the accident. The contact later sought treatment from her doctor, where an mri was performed, which showed that the contact had suffered a concussion. The mri also showed that the contact had suffered a traumatic brain injury, as white matter changes were found in her brain. In addition, the contact was informed that parts of her vertebrae were also damaged, which required surgery. The surgery involved a bone fusion of bone c5 to c6 and a disc replacement of bone c4 to c5. The contact mentioned she was a registered nurse for 25 years, and due to the severity of her injuries, she can no longer return to her profession. The contact's husband was also treated by his doctor for a dislocated right wrist. The injuries of the other driver were unknown if any; however her father, who was a police officer, picked her up from the scene of the crash. A police report was filed. As a result of the accident, the vehicle was totaled and was towed to an independent wrecking yard. The dealer nor the manufacturer had yet been notified of the failure. The vehicle was destroyed. The failure mileage was approximately 17,000.

45 Air Bag problem of the 2010 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 04/15/2025

In March 2015 the bas esp (traction control and stability light)warning light came on. It stayed on for several miles and then went off. This happened numerous times. On April 23, 2025 parker automotive service center removed the steering wheel and replaced the clockspring. In may the bas esp again came on, parker automotive recalibrated the clockspring which has the steering angle sensory built in. In Aug 2025 the bas esp light again came on and on August 14, 2025 parker automotive replaced the clockspring under warranty. In September 2025 the bas esp came on again. On October 2 2025 parker automotive found a safety recall m31/NHTSA 13v-176 airbag system clockspring and advised me to go to the Jeep dealer. Which I did and was told my vehicle was not among the recalled ones. Research shows that m31/NHTSA was replaced by s40/NHTSA. My records show that I “paid” larry h. Miller Chrysler Jeep tucson to replace the clockspring-steering column controls ten years ago on October 22, 2015. It is concerning that when the bas esp warning light is on the airbag will not deploy. Does the recall need to be expanded to include additional vehicles? the clockspring in my vehicle has been replaced now 3 times.

46 Air Bag problem of the 2014 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 03/25/2025

The airbag light is staying on, the horn is not working, inoperable steering wheel buttons (for switching between dashboard options like mileage, temperature, and information) as well as radio and cruise control buttons. Occasionally, all dashboard lights will come and and flicker, the dome light and all interior lights will flicker as well for a few seconds. I believe the Jeep is affected by the clockspring issue covered by s40 / NHTSA 16v-288. However, because my VIN is not connected with this recall, no manufacturer service center will address it.

47 Air Bag problem of the 2022 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 03/07/2025

I received a safety warning about my air bags specifically via my Jeep app on my iphone about 1 1/2 hours after I had been rear-ended in a motor vehicle accident. The rear-end impact pushed me into a van in front of me. The safety notice notified me to take my 2022 Jeep in to have the air bags checked. There were no prior warnings. I am concerned as to whether or not the air bags should have employed upon impact. My seatbelt did totally lock into place after impact, but the air bags did not activate. My vehicle is currently still being repaired at a collision service, per the direction of my auto insurance carrier.

54 Air Bag problem of the 2015 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 12/29/2024

Unknown but my concern is the clock spring recall. I would like that fixed I don't understand why I can't have it fixed under the recall for my Jeep Wrangler 2 door. I am worried that the air bag won't work. . . Right now the horn and a few other controls on the steering wheel doesn't work. So I believe this vehicle is part of the recall.

59 Air Bag problem of the 2015 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 11/11/2024

The steering wheel clock spring fail and Jeep has always given me hassles at the dealership and it was not convenient to where I lived. So I had my local shop fix it. They asked me where and why I got it fixed somewhere else and I answered. They even have a reimbursement from for work done by other shops and they outright denied my claim. I drove a year with no airbag because they installed faulty products that allowed dust to enter my clock spring and risk my life. I want reimbursement. It was $1400 to get it fixed and I should not be liable for that when they have a reimbursement section and don’t outline what does and does not qualify. They won’t provide me with exact verbiage or where I would even see that on the page. Please help me. I’m begging. It’s so much money for me and nothing for a mega corporation like stellantis.

60 Air Bag problem of the 2018 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 11/11/2024

My vehicle started showing the airbag light on and it ended up being the clock spring, many Jeep Wranglers have being recalled because the same issue. The clock spring is the one that controls cruise, airbag, horn, traction, etc. I took it to the dealership and they said the vehicle was showing the b1b02 code, witch the the same why all the other Jeeps were recalled but there is not a recall yet for my year. I want to people be aware of the importance of it, because in a crash the airbag will not deploy and even not in a crash the cruise control could malfunction anytime. I got my vehicle repaired today for a total of $1137. 00 that wasn’t covered my extended warranty because they alleged the clock spring/airbag problem is reported very often. This is a really safety matter for all the Jeep owners!!!.

62 Air Bag problem of the 2018 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 11/01/2024

This is a 2018 Jeep Wrangler 2018 jku rhd and this vehicle starting to get the airbag light on and off in the dash! I brought it to a dealer to read it and they said the code is the b1b02 that means the clock spring is going out and it wasnt safe to drive it because the air bag will not deploy. Looking for all the info about it, I found out they have a recall is some specific years but why it is not a recall in the 2018 model when it is showing up the same symptoms and problems than the recalled years?.

63 Air Bag problem of the 2009 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 10/22/2024

I was driving approximately 55mph 10/22/2024 on a two-lane roadway in my 2009 Jeep Wrangler x (VIN: [xxx] ) when another vehicle pulled out in front of me. I struck that vehicle in a frontal collision. The force of the impact caused my Jeep to ride up and over the vehicle, enter the opposite lane of travel, and roll over a second vehicle before continuing to roll down the road. Despite the high-speed frontal impact and subsequent rollover, none of the airbags in my vehicle deployed, including the driver frontal airbag. The other vehicles involved in the crash did experience airbag deployment. The crash resulted in significant vehicle damage, including roof deformation consistent with rollover forces. Given the severity of the impact and rollover, I believe the airbags should have deployed. The failure of the airbag system may have contributed to the injuries I sustained. I am concerned that there was a failure of the airbag or restraint system in my vehicle. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

70 Air Bag problem of the 2016 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 08/08/2024

The airbag light came on, then went off. This happened for a while, meanwhile, the horn stopped working and the controls in the steering wheel were incapable of anything for the radio. I was informed it was a bad steering clock spring and it needed to be replaced. Part # 5156106ag we searched for a recall, and there is one for the 2016 Jeep Wrangler for a failing steering clock spring, only my car’s VIN number didn’t match the recall. It appears the previous owner had an issue with the airbags, that was subsequently repaired before I owned this vehicle. I believe it was repaired incorrectly, or is still faulty, as it is broken once again. The coincidence of this being recalled for the same make and model, but not for my specific vehicle is difficult to comprehend. What automobile has more than one need to repair airbags that were never deployed? I have not gotten it repaired yet because the dealer is charging greater than $900 for just the part. I found it online for less than $200.
