36 Car Stall problem of the 2013 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 01/09/2015

My truck has been brought in for service twice for repeatedly stalling while in motion. It has been at the dealership service department for a combined 56 days. I first brought the vehicle in for service on 1/13/2015, after the vehicle stalled on 1/9/2015 while driving 70 mph, and 1/13/2015 when accelerating to 50 mph. My vehicle was cleared to pick up on 1/24/2015 following service that included computer updates, physical inspection, and road testing. My vehicle stalled again on 2/5/2015 while driving on a highway entrance ramp. In all three cases, the vehicle started without assistance in about ten minutes. I immediately returned my vehicle to the dealership for service. I was informed that the service department would contact the manufacturer to send a technician to inspect my vehicle. They never did. On 3/6/2015, I contacted Jeep customer service requesting additional help. My case was referred to a special case manager where my concerns were rudely dismissed. I have been contacted multiple times by the dealership to pick up my truck since 3/11/2015, despite the failure of the service department to identify what is causing the vehicle to stall. I do not feel the truck is safe to drive. I have a family and will not put them at risk because the dealership and manufacturer are being negligent. I will not pick up the vehicle until the problem is identified and repaired, or the vehicle is replaced. I have seen a similar case involving a 2013 Jeep Wrangler that stalls for unidentified reasons posted on the NHTSA web site. This also sounds similar to the recent gm recall due to defective ignition systems that resulted in stalling and caused numerous fatalities. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

37 Car Stall problem of the 2013 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 11/14/2014

In several ocassions the Jeep would completely turn off at red lights or after complete stops. I took the Jeep to the dealership 4 different times and was told nothing was wrong. On Friday 11/14/14 I was going 60 mph on the highway when the Jeep suddenly lost speed and immediately turned off/stalled, I lost steering power. It was very difficult to get out of the traffic. The Jeep did not turn back on until 45 minutes later as I waited for the tow truck. I was again told by the dealership that the computer diagnosis is not detecting any malfunction, really???.

38 Car Stall problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 11/04/2014

My Jeep's horn began honking, wipers came on, door locks began locking and unlocking. Nothing stopped until I got home and my husband disconnected the battery. He connected it several hours later and it was fine. I took it to the dealership where they told me nothing could be done as the problem had stopped. Several months later, the same thing occurred along with the a/c shutting off. We went through the same steps; disconnect battery, reconnect and took to dealership. Again I was told that they really couldn't diagnose because nothing was happening at that point. Last night my Jeep began shaking violently and scared me as I could not regain control. I had to slow and pull over so it could stop. My husband came to get me and was following me when in addition to the past things happening (I call it possessed), the warning lights came on; brake, engine, abs, battery, etc. It then stalled as I was turning. Luckily the woman coming the opposite direction slowed and went around otherwise I would have been hit. My husband towed the Jeep to the dealership and left it there, and told them to fix it as it is a real road hazard. In reading about Jeep complaints, I'm assuming it is a "tipm" problem and something called a "death wobble". I am absolutely shocked that this hasn't been recalled.

39 Car Stall problem of the 2004 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 05/28/2014

The vehicle had been driven for about 35 minutes at approximately 70mph on the interstate. The vehicle unexpectedly began to produce a thick white smoke. The vehicle was immediately pulled over and placed into park; the vehicle was already on fire upon exiting. The grass beneath had caught on fire as well. The hood began to blacken indicating a fire in the engine compartment close to the firewall. The entire incident took place in about thirty seconds; from the time it began to smoke to the time it was on fire begin the entire incident. A truck driver with a dry chemical fire extinguisher put the engine fire out; after lifting the hood to a ball of fire. The only injury begin light burns from lifting the hood. Essentially, my Jeep Wrangler, with no aftermarket parts installed, burst into flames for no apparent reason.

40 Car Stall problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 03/14/2014

Driving at 35mph dash illuminates random lights, speed odometer fluctuates back and forth 0 to current speed, dash board dings and car slows and spontaneously stalls. Restarts immediately. This first incident occurred ages months back without stalling now is happening frequently . Will not be driving this car again until problem is identified and fixed, too risky.

41 Car Stall problem of the 2012 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 12/02/2013

Was informed in Dec 2013 by Chrysler that my 2012 Jeep was in need of safety recall n28/NHTSA 13v-234. Have been waiting 3 months so far for part oil cooler tube and no known date when I can get one installed. Dealer says they can only order one of these every 14 days. . . Chrysler customer service says they can order 7 every 14 days to avoid some dealers hording parts. My vehicle has been deemed unsafe. I need to get this repaired. Who can get Chrysler to release the parts? this is terrible customer service.

42 Car Stall problem of the 2013 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 07/01/2013

The hill start assist malfunctions constantly, this can stall the engine when starting out in traffic and cause excessive ware on the brakes and clutch. There are 2 switches that tell the computer when the clutch petal is pressed. One when you first start to press in the clutch and another that tells the computer when the clutch is pressed in all the way. The hill start assist is programmed to use the switch that tells the computer when you first start to press in the clutch instead of the switch that tells the computer when the clutch petal is fully pressed. This causes the brakes to stay locked up even after the clutch is fully engaged when starting on a hill. The computer needs to be reprogrammed to release the brakes as soon as you start to release the clutch petal before the clutch fully engages. The hill start assist should use the same switch that tells the computer the clutch is fully pressed which is the same switch that is used to prevent the vehicle from starting in gear and not the switch that tells the computer when the petal is lightly pressed which is the switch that turns off the cruise control.

44 Car Stall problem of the 2000 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 02/25/2013

The engine cylinder head was cracked between number three and four cylinders for a undetermined amount of time. Jeep would not confirm that a updated cylinder was made to fix the issue. I was told that Jeep had no records of cylinder heads cracking. A replacement head has been installed but the oil pressure is low due to the excessive bearing wear cause by coolant in the oil.

45 Car Stall problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 12/06/2012

First occurrence Dec 6th 2012, backing out of an inclined driveway. Vehicle seemed as if it had no power, stalled, spitting and sputtering like it was starving for gas. Finally got it out of the driveway and was about 15 miles from closest Jeep dealership in ocala FL, and nursed it there, spitting and sputtering and stalling the whole trip. Left it overnight and got a call the next day where they had found the problem and a couple of other things wrong (unrelated to the problem) I approved the fixes and after $677. 00 later drove off the lot. The only thing I can see on the invoice that would have caused the original problem is a line that reads "cleaner-fuelsystem" and has a $59. 00 part and a $106. 00 labor charge. On January 13th 2013 it starts acting up again. I take it back to same dealership the next day and complain that I'm not going to come in every month and pay a $90. 00 diagnostics fee for something they said was fixed. So they plug it in and the code tells them I was running "lean" however they have no idea this time whats wrong. And of course it's not doing it so they "can't fix what's not broke". Between Jan and July it has done this many times, in the beginning it was once or twice a month but now will do it almost every trip. When it stalls completely I loose ps & pb, very dangerous. It now stalls at speeds of around 50 mph and I just have to pull onto shoulder to restart. Sometimes it restarts right away and other times I have to sit a short bit. It seems to be related to longer trips, 1-2 hours. But sometimes will happen after being on the road for 15 minutes. The stalling at 50 mph and loosing ps & pb is the most concerning in traffic.

46 Car Stall problem of the 2012 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 11/02/2012

Vehicle is currently (Dec 2012) at dealer having heads/valves replaced (10th day after waiting 10 days for parts), original report 9 Nov: idling engine continues to be very rough, much rougher than when reported to dealer on November 9 2012, dealer did pcm reflash/update as stalling maneuver, after which problem worsened and mil came on vehicle is vibrating abnormally when stopped and idling, all passengers feel the car shaking, almost stalls at times idling engine changes speeds and sound intermittently and is running very loud engine always had slight ticking on left side since new but was never loud or rough loss of power felt at acceleration at top of gears (manual) white exhaust emissions after cold start, this never happened before engine light mil is on and off repeatedly - reads p0306 cylinder 6 misfire gas mileage severely affected (approx 25% worse), car now has 18k miles; dealer said it was ok to drive it - however driving it may cause other damage this is 3rd visit to dealer - when problem first reported dealer service dept said I might have put water in the gas. I have had to push the dealer to fix this and the general attitude has been adversarial and not helpful.

47 Car Stall problem of the 2012 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 08/31/2012

I have had at least 100 times where my Jeep has stalled and just stopped running. It has happend when I have slowed down, and has stopped in intersections. It has stopped when starting from a stop etc. I have had numerous manual transmission cars and this has never happened. It scares me , and makes me fear for my life. I have changed the way I drive because of it, with the fear of worrying my Jeep will just stop running , when I pull out into traffic. I have had the switches in the car not work, and function erratically. Lights stay on, when turned off, after turning them off numerous times, they finally go out. I have had my breaks respond oddly, and get weak. I have had the heater not come on, then turn switch again and it works. Have had defrost some on when defrost was off. Numerous electrical functions, malfunction. I don't bother with Jeep, as my mileage is over 36,000- no more warranty, but these things began, about a month or two into Jeep ownership. These problems used to be infrequent, but now this power failure happens often. Some days it happens 4-5 times. Please help me with this matter, I do not want to be injured or killed, due to this problem. I also do not want my family or someone elses hurt ,becuase of it either. I started doing research about these issues and find I am not the only one, it is common. I also have a whistle in the brake line, vaccuum I think??? it causes the breaks to not be strong at times. I have had my brakes completely replaced and this condition persists, it also seems many with my model of Jeep experience this as well. All of the hinges on the doors are rusting from the inside out, as well, I see the paint bubbling up .

48 Car Stall problem of the 2012 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 08/06/2012

Really have 3 issues with this vehicle. The first is that the engine began to tick noticeably at around 5000 miles, sound definitely coming from #2 cylinder. Was initially told not to worry, noise was normal, oddly it did not tick previously. The short story is that it set a p0302 code at around 12,000 miles. Chrysler did not authorize a rental and the dealer was less than cordial. They put the thing back together and damaged an emissions valve, so more delay. Get the vehicle back, ran silent for 2,000 miles, the tick is back. Now at 19,000, no code yet, but I fear its coming. Problem #2, exhaust smell, get it nearly all the time, especially under load, no resolution yet. Problem #3, wet carpet on drivers side, no resolution yet. Oh, I forgot to mention, there is a fourth, I have just installed the third windshield in less than 6 months. Its not the quality of the glass, its the steep angle of the windshield, but that's what you get when you buy a Wrangler. I have been loyal to us brands, this is our 32nd new vehicle, won't by a Wrangler again.

57 Car Stall problem of the 2006 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 07/30/2008

¿06 Jeep Wrangler looses power, bucks, shakes as of 20,000mi. Gas gage sometimes does not read correctly, ac goes warm at neutral, smelled burning, could not shift past 1st . Has had to be towed to dealer. Stalls and shakes intermittingly during moving and stopped positions. Has a rough idle, which at times is more severe than others, but has never died - just shook severely a few times. It intermittingly acts as if it is going to loose all power. This can occur several times in one day, 1 time during the day or not at all for 1 or several days in a row. There is no set pattern. It occurs during cold and hot weather, with electrical devices on or off, in neutral or drive, if the engine has warmed up or is still cold. Have taken it to dealer several times. Dealer tells me something is wrong but they are unsure of what. They have tried several times to replace or fix parts with no success. Chryslers star mechanics are now working on it. This vehicle is not safe. Dies at all speeds, times and road conditions.

61 Car Stall problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 11/19/2007

On November 19, 2007 as I was reversing out of a parking space at a restaurant, I noticed that my brakes were not working and quickly noticed a red dot light above my fuel gauge. I had to pull my parking brake in order to avoid rolling any further. I tried several times to start my car again. Initially, several lights lit up on the dashboard and the motor seemed to respond to turning the key in the ignition. However, after each attempt, the engine cut off after a few quick seconds. After several attempts, there was no response at all to turning the key in the ignition. The car was completely inoperable. This was the second time this had happened. I was actually just a mile down the road from just picking up my Jeep from the dealership where it had been serviced for the past 8 days for the exact same issue. I had literally just picked up the vehicle after being told that the issue was finally resolved. The actual receipt from the service shop shows that 0. 2 hours were spent on fixing the issue which involved the wcm module. The 8 days where it sat at the dealership consisted of 2 days of no diagnosis, essentially just sitting at the dealership; 1 day when the wcm module was ordered after diagnosis; and the rest of the time spent waiting for the part to arrive and placed on the car. The first stall occurred in my driveway with my daughter and her friends in the vehicle. I was able to just move the kids into the house with no real safety incident. However, this second incident led to me rolling into parking lot traffic and towards the restaurant sidewalk and building. The parking space was at an incline which allowed the stalled out car to gain momentum as it rolled backward. Fortunately since this was the second incident I quickly realized what was happening and immediately pulled the parking brake. However I did wind up in the middle of the parking lot blocking traffic in and out of the lot.

63 Car Stall problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 09/08/2007

Purchased brand new 2007 4door Jeep Wrangler. It has stalled while driving on 5 separate occasions. We have taken it back to the dealer, and each time been told it was fixed. This car is a death trap and we refuse to drive it. Dealer wont take it back so now we need to go to court. The severity of this is not showing. . . . This vehicle stalls at high rates of speed on highways. . . No light . . . No power steering. . . No brakes. . . Nothing. . . . . . Someone is going to die or kill some one. And Chrysler doesn't care. Help.

64 Car Stall problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 08/17/2007

The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that the vehicle fails to accelerate and shuts off after coming to a complete stop. The ignition switch must be turned off in order to restart the engine. He stated that the vehicle stalled five times within the last ten days. The dealer has reprogrammed the computer at least twice. Also, when making a right turn, the anti-skid control activates and the brakes are applied. The anti-skid control light illuminates and then dims after the turn is made. The dealers verified with a road test that the anti-skid does activate at approximately 25-35 mph, but no repairs have been made. The contact was unsure of the component names regarding the reprogramming and anti-skid failures. The current mileage was 4,200 and failure mileage was 3,300.

65 Car Stall problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 08/15/2007

I have a 2007 Jeep Wrangler 4 dr x unlimited 4wd. I saw the recall notice for the vehicles stalling manufactured before Jan 2007. My vehicle was manufactured I believe in may of 2007 and the stall has happened twice. Radio goes off, engine died and all lights on the dash came on and appeared to reset. It's a manual transmission and the engine restarted because I was moving and still in gear. It only lasts about 2 seconds but during the time it is doing this the power steering is not functional. (I only know this because I was on a curved freeway on ramp during one of the times it did this. ) I am only filing this complaint because it appears the recall (g25 I believe) does not seem to cover the full range of dates for affected vehicles as mine was manufactured in may of 2007.

66 Car Stall problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 08/08/2007

At 65 mph all dash lights came on as if Jeep had lost power and came back on. I looked online for any incidences like this and found a news story that said Chrysler was being investigated and was to recall 80,000 Jeeps. I called Chrysler and they denied we have a problem and they were unwilling to even look at my Jeep because they claim the VIN number didn't match the recall. Meanwhile I am driving a Jeep unsure if it will stall out at highway speeds.

67 Car Stall problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

68 Car Stall problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 06/30/2007

My 2007 Jeep Wrangler sahara unlimited has now stalled twice at highway speed. The stall is momentary, approximately two seconds, and the vehicle quickly resumes normal operation. There is an initial "lurch", then all of the indicator lights on the dashboard light up, then operation resumes. It seems very dangerous and it is very alarming when it happens. On one of my two occurrences I was traveling at 70mph on a freeway, which could have resulted in a very dangerous situation. After my first occurrence I described the problem to my dealer and the response was that it was normal operation of the cruise control (obviously they did not interpret my description properly).

69 Car Stall problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 06/29/2007

2007 Jeep Wrangler 2 door:model x:manual transmission: purchased on 3/29/at 2,833 miles, my vehicle stalled on interstate 10 at 60 mph. The vehicle stalled disabling all power to the controls for 3 seconds during morning rush hour traffic. The vehicle then restarted on its own and I continued on my way, thinking it was simply a minor malfunction. It recurred at 5,180 miles while I was in neutral gear, the vehicle stalled and 2 seconds later it restarted on its own. After this experience, I went to research this problem online. I found that this problem is now called "the stall bug" and it is happening to hundreds of 2007 Jeep jk Wrangler owners on both manual and automatic transmissions. I found that many of the owners who have reported this problem have taken their vehicles to their Jeep dealership and the service department ends up sending them back without the problem being fixed. This is unacceptable and someone is going to get hurt. As soon as I found out that there was this grossly overlooked problem, I took my vehicle immediately to the dealership to be fixed (6/30/07). My vehicle is currently at the dealership being looked at by the service department, but from the research that I have done there is no solution to the problem yet and the dealership will most likely send me home with a ticking time bomb of a vehicle as it is expected that the stall will happen again at around 9,000 miles. .
