The contact owns a 2003 Jeep Wrangler. When attempting to start the vehicle, it would hesitate to start. Several attempts had to be made in order to start the vehicle. Once the vehicle was able to start, the radio would fail. When the brakes were applied, the vehicle would stall without warning. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the failure only occurred when operating the vehicle in the rain. The contact had not notified a dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 38,425.

As I begin to pull into heavy traffic, I hear and see the check engine light warning along with the skid control light illuminating. The car then stalls leaving me sitting in 70 mph traffic. The vehicle starts back up but has a noticeable loss of power. This loss of power continued until I got home. When I finally get home I use a code reader which indicated it was a camshaft position sensor. Code p0344. This could have been a much worse incident as there were no mechanical issues leading up to this.
I was driving at highway speed when the check engine light was activated. The automatic transmission was not shifting properly, and did not seem to downshift after slowing down to proceed through toll booth. When I attempted to accelerate after paying the toll, the engine began to slowly accelerate as if it was in fourth or fifth gear. Shortly thereafter, the oil light began to turn on and off intermittently. I made it to a Chrysler/Jeep dealer and found a puddle of oil under my car and there was no oil registering on the dipstick. After the Jeep service department eventually looked at my car, I found out there was a cracked oil filter adapter that had to be replaced. After doing some research, I learned that this was not an uncommon problem in Jeeps. I imagine that I was fortunate that the engine did not seize or catch fire, which obviously has the potential to cause serious harm.

On or about the 10th of March 2015 I took my vehicle to the dealer because the check engine light came on. The dealer turned the light off and I made apt for a separate problem which was a recall notice. The dealer said they would take care of the engine light problem when I brought the vehicle back for the recall. When I took it back the dealer said the vehicle is now out of warranty as of the 14th of March. I advised I understand the date however I brought the vehicle in and you turned the light off now you are telling me I have to pay 180. 00 to check the problem because warranty is over. Turns out there is a problem with the left head of the engine and the #4 cylinder is experiencing a misfire. I called the dealer where I bought the Jeep, it is 400 miles away, I moved since the purchase, they advise there is a problem with the engine, they describe it and said it would be a warranty item which is covered for 6 years. I can not drive the vehicle 400 miles to have the repairs done and I need help with getting sahara Chrysler Jeep Dodge in las vegas to repair the problem. The problem is (x56) 3. 6 left cylinder head.

Bad left head, known problem with pentastar engine. Check engine light came on. Codes indicated misfire on cylinders. Inspection revealed a bad left head.
Check engine light flashes when going uphill. Dealer claims to be unable to read the code if engine light does not stay on. Has been in for service 4 times for same issue. Once, dealer replaced a single engine coil after reading a p300 misfire code. Engine loses power and freeway speed becomes impossible to maintain for several minutes even after cresting hill and driving on level surface.
The car began to idle roughly--it would rattle and shake just sitting at a red light. If I tried to just roll the vehicle slightly forward, it would stutter. Check engine light came on, but the manual informs to wait a few drive cycles to see if it will just turn off. Pulled the diagnostic code (p0306) and it was a cylinder 6 misfire issue. Took car in on 9 Dec 2014 and the entire left cylinder column was replaced. On 24 Dec 2014, the same issues began to occur and the check engine light illuminated with the same diagnostic code. Car will be taken in on 26 Dec 2014 for service.
Vehicle was in park, when I put it into drive, the engine shut off. Did this 4 times before I was able to keep it going. Got down the road, and when I stopped at the stop sign, engine quit again. Also Jeep would not go into drive it was stuck in neutral. After several attempts, Jeep went into drive. From there every time the vehicle stopped the engine would stall. No check engine lights came on, no warnings no nothing.
The (rhd) vehicle check engine light and traction control (skid) light come on regularly while driving straight on dry roads and when the traction control light is on it causes the vehicle to slow speed. When driving over 40 mph, it takes a while to gain speed and if you let off gas it jerks like you are driving a standard transmission. I recently had the powertrain control module replaced costing myself over $600 and it still does the same thing. I have made a stop at a stop sign before and this Jeep died and started right back. Occasionally the gascap light comes on and stays for a couple days and then goes away. Another strange thing that happens a lot is the temperature on dash is set to fahrenheit, but often I have to change it back because I will look and its showing celcius. The most recent thing that happened scared even my children. I had just took off at a 4-way intersection on highway and while gaining speed with no lights on, I reached about 40 mph and it just jerked as hard as it could and then check engine light and traction control light come on causing us to almost get run over by the peope behind us gaining speed because we were being slowed down by this event. This is by far the strangest vehicle I've ever owned, sometimes there are no lights, sometimes just check engine or gascap light is on, and sometimes the check engine and traction control lights are on at the same time. You never know what you are gonna get on any given day. I have taken it to dealer again for the 6th time but they dont seem to be very knowledgable or have any idea why this is happening.
Vehicle check engine light comes on and vehicle losses power. This occurred on a highway at 65mph, the cel came on while on cruise control. At that moment the vehicle decelerated from 65mph to about 40mph with no notice. This was an unsafe condition for all occupants of the vehicle including a 16 month baby. The vehicle was almost struct by an semi truck from behind, who had to lock its wheels to avoid a collision. This will be the 10th time the cel was been illuminate, but this was the first time for an incident of this manner. The manufacture and dealership seems uncaring of the event and process to make the vehicle safe.
At 26,000 miles the check engine light came on. I took it to the dealership, they reset the light and told me the 4th cylinder misfired, but everything is fine now. One week later it did it again. Now they are telling me it needs a new cylinder. After reading the other postings, it will be sold ASAP. I am not chancing going over the 36000 mile warranty and having it happen again. Nope. . . It's gone. . . I am very sad because I love my Jeep. :-(.
The cel (check engine light) or mil has been turned three times (dtc code p2099). The dealer has not found the problem, the dealer review the vehicle and all is ok. The dealer changes the pcm (powertrain control module), but the problem continues, the cel (check engine light) light has become a turn.

Check engine. Light came on . Took it to dealer. Dealer said the computer was reading # 2 cylinder mis- fire. The dealer said that my on board computer didn't take a forced upload of new software from Chrysler, so they did it in shop. They said that would fix it. On may 13th while sitting in line at the bank, the check engine light came back on, drove to dealers second location. At that location I was told that the motor needed major work the #2 cylinder, rocker arm, and cylinder head need to be replaced.
Windshield wipers come on randomly while driving. Service states there is nothing they can do. Check engine light also on. Service repaired cracked cylinder head. 5 days later check engine light is back on.
Brand new vehicle, after 6,000 miles check engine light comes on, take it in, they have it for a month, had to replace heads. Get it back, now at 50,000 miles the heads have to be replaced again, but this time they say drive it. It will cut out of power and run very rough, but they keep telling me its ok. I talked to a mechanic that works there, and he said it is happening all over the country and that they are on back order for the heads and cant keep up with all the demand. All 2013 Jeeps have this problem, most just go in and they flash the code, and send them on their way. I am on a Jeep forum, and they all have the same problem. What are my rights if it happens a third time. I don't want the same defective motor put in it.
I started my 2008 Jeep Wrangler jk and immediately got a check engine light with an audible sound. The engine was running very rough and shaking. I turned off the engine and it seemed fine but the check engine light was still on. I have a obd2 diagnostic code reader and it showed the code p0306. This is a misfire on the number six cylinder. I took it to larry h. Miller Chrysler Jeep Dodge ram dealership in albuquerque and this is what was done. "WI tech diagnostics for fault codes, had store codes for injector #6 circuit, no work done, operating as per design". I asked what can be done to fix the problem and [xxx] said that the tech could not duplicate the problem so they could not fix anything. [xxx] offered to perform a fuel injector cleaning but this was the only options for now. The next day I started the Jeep and had the same issue. I looked up this code 0306 on the Jeep jk site and read posts of "pentastar problem". In all cases these people had to visit the dealership 4 to 5 times until they fixed the problem. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

I bought my 2012 Jeep Wrangler unlimited sport in November 2011. It was working just fine until the summer of 2012 when my wipers would turn on all by themselves for a few seconds, and then off again. This happened several more times during the summer. In addition, the radio would just power off. The only way it would come back on was to hit the top of the dash and it powered back on. Took it in and they flashed a module which stopped the wiper issue but not the radio problem. This was July 2012. After that in same month, I noticed an engine light came on solid. Took it in, they reset it saying it was a cylinder #2 misfire. People on Wranglerforums. Com were talking about it too (see jk section and look for "ticking pentastar" thread). It was the biggest thread actually. Apparently, over a hundred owners on just this site alone had to have their head replaced. Wtf? the light came back on a couple days later so I took it back in. They confirmed the same result and told me they would order a new head. The local dealer here in savannah (hoover) told me it was in. Took in the Jeep and they said it would take 2-3 days. Big lie. After 3 days, I called to get status and they told me it would be 2-3 weeks!!! there were several people in front of me with same issue and only one guy fixing them. With a major issue like this on a brand new vehicle, this calls for a class-action lawsuit. I get small glitches happening but a new head??? they did not change anything on the 2013's so this will likely be a huge headache for Jeep. Be warned!!!!.
Check engine light came on 5/8/12. Light off on 5/8/12. Light on 5/10/12. On 5/11/12 took to Jeep dealer from which purchased. Code for misfire on cylinder #6. Code cleared. Cel reset. Got one mile towards home and cel illuminated again. Returned to dealership. Told to return 5/14/12. Returned 5/14/12. On 5/15/12 dealership indicated cracked/broken spark plug (#2) code. Plug replaced. Code reset. Got four miles towards home and cel illuminated again. Returned to dealership. Awaiting resolution.
The check engine light came on ,, took to dealer and they had to replace both heads. And one of the heads they put on was bad and iam still waiting for them to get another head and I hope it will be a good one, my Jeep has been at the dealer for almost 2 mo. And I still don't have it back yet and its costing me a lot of money to rent a car. I will trade it in this year if I do get it back,,, looking at a GMC 4/w/d.
Engine oil not registered on dip stick when checked. Had to add 3 quarts of oil to get to register to bottom of dip stick. Oil has been changed every 3-6k miles since took ownership in 2007. Engine light does not come on when oil is low. Problem experienced a 2nd time 5/26/2012. Checked oil and no engine oil on dipstick. Oil was changed/filled on 1/19/2012 (have records from mechanic) and only approximately 5k miles drive in that time and again 3 quarts required to even get oil to register on dip stick and again engine oil light never came on in past 5 months since last oil change. Engine appears to be "burning through" excessive amount of oil with no indication of low oil in vehicle at any time.

I have an 01 Jeep tj Wrangler, I have recently noticed a drop in performance along with slowly vanishing coolant. Several days ago while in traffic, the oil pressure dropped low enough to set off the check engine light. As soon as I began driving again the oil pressure raised high enough to to clear the light. However as soon as I came to the next light the oil pressue dropped and the check engine light came on again. Upon returning home I looked up the symptoms on the internet and it all led me to a very common cracked head between the 3-4 cylinder. I was all too suprised to find out how extremely common that is.

The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that the vehicle would idle improperly and stall intermittently. The check engine warning light would also illuminate. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic who advised the contact that the oil pickup drive assembly would need to be replaced. Both the dealer and manufacturer were notified and were aware of the issue; however, informed the contact that the parts to repair the failure were on back order. The vehicle was not repaired. The current mileage was 29,556 and the failure mileage was 25,000.

My camshaft position sensor on my 2006 Jeep unlimited lj has caused my Jeep check engine light to come on and to have misfire codes, transmission failure codes, and emission sensor codes, causing my Jeep to run rough and may cause further damage to my motor if the problem is not fixed. The codes produced, does not point out my that my camshaft position sensor is the problem but masks the problem with other sensor codes. This has been going on for a while and the dealership couldn't even tell me what was wrong with my Jeep and said they would have to just start with one thing and keep replacing parts till the problem goes away. I am still trying to get the problem fixed and I have an appointment scheduled with a reputable Jeep mechanic at a specialty Jeep shop to try and fix the problem this Wednesday 8/4/2010. Hopefully my engine has not been damaged due to this problem that Chrysler is fully aware of! my mileage is in the 76,000 mile range and I do not know if my drivetrain warranty covers this.
My brand new 2008 Jeep Wrangler unlimited sahara, after only 8 days and 499 miles stalled today while driving. It actually stalled 6 times total withing a 2 mile trip home. The instrument cluster lit up like a christmas tree, the radio went out and the engine stalled, taking the power brakes and steering with it. The engine would not restart, just clicked. After waiting 5 minutes or so, the engine turned over, only to stall within a half mile and the process repeated itself 4 times after that. Now my check engine light remains on and the car is at the dealership. I am afraid that Chrysler did not infact take care of the stalling recall of last model year(2007) and that the new model year is affected with this stall bug as well. I am concerned because when it happened I was doing a whopping 5 mph, I am concerned it could happen at highway speeds and cause great injury to me or my wife or others. I ask you please look into this and/or keep it on record for future notices to potentially recall other Wranglers. Thank you for your time on this matter. Please feel free to contact me for further information.
The contact owns a 2003 Jeep Wrangler. While driving 55 mph, the crankshaft position sensor failed and the check engine light continued to illuminate. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and they confirmed that the sensor malfunctioned. He discovered a recall for the same exact failure with the 2004 Jeep Wrangler. The manufacturer stated that the failure was not under warranty and would not be covered, although he had a current 7-year powertrain warranty. The current and failure mileages were approximately 24,000.
Brand new, 2006 Jeep Wrangler 4x4, less than 5,000 miles on it when driving down the road (first incident,50 mph), engine stalls. Try to restart. . . Pull off to the side of the road, wait about 5 minutes, and the Jeep finally restarts. Second incident, driving down the interstate in rush hour traffic, middle lane, approximately 70 miles per hour, Jeep engine stalls again. Loss of all power, steering components, no dashboard lights or check engine lights flash. Just complete and total loss of power. Almost get rear-ended by several cars before managing to get the Jeep off on the shoulder. Sat on the side of the road for 45 minutes before the Jeep would restart. First dealership I took it to refused to look at it because I didn't have an appointment, and said they could get to it in a week or so. I told them I didn't have an appointment because I didn't know it was going to die, and secondly I wasn't driving a vehicle that was unsafe and I didn't know what was wrong with it. I was then referred to another dealership, where the technician stated he was unable to duplicate the defect. . . So nothing has been fixed and I'm still driving an unsafe car.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Wrangler. While driving 65 mph, the vehicle lost power without warning. The check engine light illuminated immediately afterwards and the vehicle began to jerk violently. The contact pulled the vehicle to the side of the road. The vehicle was driven to his residence where it failed to restart. There is a recall on the 2007 Jeep Wrangler regarding the engine. The vehicle is currently at the dealer. The recall number was unknown. The current mileage is 18,600 and failure mileage was 18,588.
While driving my 07 Jeep Wrangler unlimited with 3,400 miles on it at 65 mph the electrical system momentarily cut out then all lights came on, chimes starting going, and horn was honking for a few seconds then everything went back to normal except my check engine light came on. Unfortunately it was Sunday and I couldn't have the computer read. On Monday the check engine light was off.
While driving my 2 month old Jeep Wrangler 4-door unlimited sahara on the NJ turnpike doing 65 mph the power to the call totally shut off and all engine lights came on. I could not steer or brake. After approx. 5-10 seconds, the power came back on without me doing anything. I took the car to the dealer (mcdonagh in east brunswick, NJ) two times and they told me they ran all the tests and that the vehicle is operating as designed. They did not fix the issue nor replace the car. The car is 2 months old with 5,000 miles on it.
I was driving my 2006 Jeep Wrangler rubicon (11,000 miles) on the freeway, when it totally lost power. It literally shut down. I was able coast to the center medium. (this had happened just 4 days before also) I was almost in a crash as I tried to coast to a safe place. When I started the car up, the check engine light came on, and I bought the Jeep to a Jeep dealership near by. They put the car on the diagnostic machine, and on the rack to check it, and told me everything came out fine, and they could not find anything wrong. Needless to say it is a very very dangerous car to drive. It is less than one year old and under warranty.
While test driving, air conditioner did not work, I was assured that it would be fixed by time of pick up (July 11). The air worked when I picked up the vehicle, however, the check engine light was on. Air conditioning gave out 2 weeks later, took in for repair and they said the hose was cracked. When I picked it up after the air conditioner repairs, I didn't even leave the parking lot and the check engine light went on again. I have owned the car for 28 days and it has been in the shop for 10 days. Dealer does not want to make restitution.

2005 Jeep Wrangler x model had check engine light come on 20 days after purchase as a new vehicle. Also, overwhelming smell comparable to butane present inside the vehicle during longer drives and accelerating. Jeep was serviced 14mar05, light is off but smell still persists. Was told it could be coating on parts of engine or transmission burning off, but car is well outside of break-in period with about 2,000 miles on it. Dealership where serviced called to say the vehicle needed to be brought back several days later due to a code that came up on the diagnostics. Vehicle is currently being serviced again.
Fails to start and stalls abruptly when in gear, at any speed and in any gear. Check engine light stays on. First dealer replaced leak detection pump. Problem persisted and dealer stated there was nothing wrong with the vehicle. Second dealer stated there was a dirty throttle body. Put conditioner in gas tank. Problem has continued to persist with no solution.
