36 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2014 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 12/05/2016

3,6 oil filter adapter leaking. Have 38,000 on vehicle, got oil changed on Monday evening and Wednesday morning noticed a burned oil smell and a cloud of smoke off motor after short drive to work. Have oil slick underneath vehicle when came out that afternoon. Went directly back to dealership, and they advised that they had done nothing wrong , but was a bad oil filter adapter. I see a lot of them appear to fail, but the timing is suspect. Has the replacement part been upgraded to prevent future failures?.

37 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2014 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 10/20/2016

I have a Wrangler sahara unlimited 2014. Around 48,000 miles I smelled burning oil an noticed oil leaking under the carriage when the car was parked. I took it to the dealership and they indicated that the oil cooler was leaking. The engine was filled with oil. They replaced the oil cooler and adapter. This is a potential fire hazard. I hope Jeep replaced the damaged part withone that will prevent the problem from reoccurring.

38 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2014 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 10/15/2016

I recently starting to smell burning oil in my Jeep. I didn't think much of it, and figured there may have been a minor spill or the old oil was burning off after my recent oil change. But after a couple of days, the smell remained and I noticed an oil stain where I park this Jeep in my driveway. I then thought that maybe my mechanic failed to properly install my oil filter after the last oil change. But turns out, the oil filter housing was leaking oil. This is potentially very dangerous and now has to be replaced. And from what I understand, this part is made from plastic and has caused many problems with this specific model year. My sister, who has the same year and model also had to have hers replaced. I only have 50k highway miles on this vehicle. I also noticed that the replacement part has a different part number, so Jeep may have made a modification to the part. I hope so!.

39 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2014 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 09/15/2016

Had my oil changed and shortly after smelled burning oil. Didn't think much of it, figured there may have been a minor spill or the old oil was burning off. After a couple of days, the smell remained and I noticed an oil stain where I parked my car. Thought they forgot to put the screw back in but turns out, the oil filter housing was leaking oil. This is potentially very dangerous and now has to be replaced. From what I understand, this part is made from plastic and has caused many problems with this specific model year. A friend of mine also had to replace his. Only have 30k miles on the vehicle so make sure that when you get your oil changed, whoever is servicing the vehicle does not tighten down the filter too much because it can cause the plastic part to crack. Looks like the replacement part has a different number so Jeep may have made a modification to the part.

41 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2014 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 01/07/2016

Oil adaptor/cooler cracking causing massive oil leak in 3. 6l v6 engines for 2014 models. Jeep forums are buzzing with this issue and some of these leaks have resulted in fires. I took mine in after smelling a very strong burning oil smell (not due for an oil change for another 1,200 miles) and seeing oil on the floor of my garage. Jeep is undrivable in this condition and part has to be ordered due to high demand. Was told that Chrysler acknowledged the issue being widespread and even mentioned that a recall may be coming down the pipeline. But that doesn't help me and the hundreds of others I've seen who had to get this fixed thus far.

42 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2014 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 11/15/2015

Oil filter housing/cooler leak breaks on numerous low mileage Wranglers, mostly on or before 25,000 miles. Mine was at 21,000 miles when it crack and leaked profusely. This leaks spread quickly and motor oil was gathering on the exhaust pipe under the engine bay. This created smoke from the burning oil which could eventually lead to a vehicle fire. I was lucky enough to find the issue quickly and diagnose it. This also is an environmental issue, having fluids especially engine oil, leak onto roadways or other driving surfaces. Jeep has yet to formally admit to this issue, those several if not all dealers are aware of this issue in the 2014 year model. Cherokee owners are also reporting the same issue, and come to find out the Wrangler and cherokee share this same exact part. Jeep has focused on cutting productions costs rather than safety. This needs to be addressed to Jeep and Chrysler immediately.

43 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2014 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 11/12/2015

Noticed a burning oil smell and traced down the source as a cracked oil filter adaptor. Took it to a repair shop where they examined the part and verified that was the source of the oil leak.

44 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2014 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 03/18/2015

Cracked oil cooler/filter housing causing oil leak and burning oil at top of motor.

45 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2014 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 01/27/2015

Burning smell of oil, part was cracked. Dealership even said it is a poor design. This needs to be a recall. This could've been a fire or an engine disaster with the amount of oil coming out of the vehicle.

46 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2014 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 01/14/2015

I have a 2014 Wrangler jk with 10,900 miles and I have a 5 mile drive to work. Two days ago, January 14, 2015 as I exited the vehicle, I smell burnt oil. I lifted the hood, I don't see anything like oil. I looked underneath for a drip or puddle, but I saw nothing. As I left work later that afternoon, I looked under the Jeep and there appeared to be a slight puddle of leaking oil. I drove 5 miles home. After I got there, I observed a good sized oil puddle on the driveway midway under Jeep with smoke coming out of the exhaust! I had Jeep towed to dealership and I was I just advised that it was the oil cooler/adapter housing. I had 10,900 miles on odometer when it occurred. I hope Chrysler engineers a replacement part fast! otherwise, the fine folks at Jeep may be looking at catastrophic engine failure and/or fire from oil coming in contact with hot engine or drive line parts on all of the my 2014 jks! this is a known issue that was first reported in may 2014.

47 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2011 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 11/21/2014

Excessive oil consumption. Jeep bought new, has less than 25,000 miles. Engine oil level was 2 quart low, 2400 miles after oil and filter change. No engine leaks or exhaust smoke. 3. 8 engine. Google oil consumption 3. 8 engine, a well known problem not being address.

48 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 11/03/2014

I have been without my Jeep for 8 weeks now this car only had 25,245 miles when I purchased it in may 2014 and only a little over 37,500 miles and needs a new engine. I preformed routine oil change as suggested by the manufacturer but the technician stated that the oil had burnt up. It appears as though this is a common complaint with this vehicle and excess oil consumption and I would think that this is a manufacturer defect.

49 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2010 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 10/14/2014

Heavy oil consumption 3-4 quarts every 2000 miles . . I bought the Jeep new in Aug. 2010 it has 48200 miles on it. . It is just out of warranty. Took it to the dealer and called Chrysler. They wont do anything and told me they have never heard of that. So I took it to a local machine shop and they told me that the piston rings are sticking to the pistons allowing oil into the combustion chamber. Their are many complaints online about this exact problem.

50 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2014 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 05/01/2014

Had oil changed by dealership and began to smell a burned oil smell. Thought maybe oil dripped on engine during oil change. Then noticed small oil puddle under Jeep in parking spot and oil on underside of Jeep. Took in for service and dealer stated saw oil but no idea where it's coming from, washed down engine told to watch for oil. Oil leak continues to worsen and call for appointment which is 2 weeks out because loaner is needed. Oil down 1/2 quart from leaking. Come home tonight and large oil puddle under Jeep. Lift hood and take off engine cover and a large pool of oil on top of engine right next to oil filter housing. Do some research on web and it appears that cracked oil filter housings are an issue on the 2014 Wranglers. Call dealership and they are unable to move up appointment because no loaners are available. Tell me to keep driving and just topping off oil every day even tho my new Wrangler is now covered in motor oil on the whole underside. Here are pics of the issue and information on the problem. . 51 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 01/08/2014

Purchased 2007 Wrangler sahara new. Maintained vehicle as suggested by manufacturer. Noticed early on the 3. 8 l v6 burned oil. Was told this was normal, so I added a quart of oil every 1,000 miles. At 51,000 miles noticed a loud knock. Immediately took the vehicle in for service and was told that the engine was blown. I had changed the oil at 50,000 miles but somehow lost all of the oil in 1,000 miles. Never had a check engine light or oil warning light, no oil showing on the ground. Dealer wanted $7,000 to install remanufactured long block. Would not call Chrysler on my behalf even though they had been the one servicing the vehicle. Chrysler refused any assistance since out of warranty. Three different customer service representatives refused to allow me to speak with anyone above them as the decision (made in one hour) was final. They refused to give me an address or fax number so that I could submit my service records to show that I had maintained the vehicle. In fact, they indicated that not only was a quart of oil every 700-1,000 miles was perfectly normal, that is was also normal to check the oil level at least once a week when fueling the vehicle. A quick review on the internet shows thousands with this problem. 650 signatures are on one petition alone that show this is a problem that Chrysler refuses to acknowledge.

Failure Date: 07/15/2013

The contact owns a 2008 Jeep Wrangler 4x4. The contact stated that the engine malfunctioned and burned the vehicles oil consumption after only two thousand miles. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that the entire engine block needed to be replaced in order to repair the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact had a lifetime warranty on vehicle; however, Chrysler did not honor the warranty. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000.

53 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

54 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 09/12/2012

I purchased a 2007 Jeep Wrangler unlimited sahara. The dealership supposedly did an oil change and after 3 months and about 1,800 miles of driving my oil light came on. I checked the oil and it was low. I took it to a local shop(valvoline quick lube) to get an oil change and they mentioned the oil plug was stripped and that there was silicone caulk to help seal the oil plug. At this point I had them replace the oil plug and was content with the service. After driving 500-600 miles after the oil change I checked the oil and it was low as if it was disappearing. No visible leaks in my garage and none in my parking spot at work. At this point I had to add 2 quarts of oil to get to read on the dip stick. This went on until my next oil change and I had valvoline look for any visual leaks. They mentioned nothing that would explain the massive amount of oil being consumed. Finally, in March of 2013, took my Jeep to a Chrysler dealership to have them start an oil consumption test. After the first 500 miles they stated there was loss of oil and made there marks and resealed everything for the next 500 miles. I took it back in at the next 500 mile mark, now mind you everything is sealed so they know nothing was tampered with, performance Chrysler called me and told me that there was significant oil loss and they stated the rings on the pistons are bad and need to be replaced at a cost of $3,300. My complaint is, my Jeep at this point has 47000 miles on it and they are telling me the rings are bad. I've had vehicles that lasted 120,000+ and no problems with the rings on the pistons. I have talked to a couple of mechanics and said there should be no way the rings should have gone bad that fast.

55 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 07/04/2011

3. 8l v6 engine burns excessive amount of oil over 1 quart every 1000 miles. The oil also destroys the four oxygen sensors which have to replaced every 75k miles and catalytic converter $500. My rear exhaust drips oil and the engine compartment reeks of burn oil. This issue has devalued my vehicle worse than the vw diesel software scandal. Also the oil light it set to come on when the oil pressure reaches 0 psi of pressure, whats the point to let you know you just damaged your engine? so stupid. The dealer told me this excessive oil consumption is normal and printed out a statement from Chrysler's engineering department stating motors over 50k miles will burn 1 quart of oil every 750 miles. How does this Jeep pass pollution smog tests? on the plus side there are less mosquitoes in my neighborhood, but who will pay for my lung cancer when I'm 50 years old?.

56 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 01/01/2011

The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that the vehicle would burn oil excessively. A local mechanic diagnosed that the pistons and rings would need to be replaced. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer took a complaint but the failure was not repaired. The failure mileage was 65,000 and the current mileage was 77,000.

57 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 10/01/2010

My issue is the large amount of oil used, 1 qt used per 2500 miles. This is what the dealership and Jeep told me. Normal oil consumption: below are industry standards for normal engine oil consumption: mileage below 50,000: normal oil consumption is one quart for each 1,000 miles driven. Mileage above 50,000: normal oil consumption is one quart for each 750 miles driven. So, as long as a Jeep with 50000 or more miles on it does not use more than a quart of oil every 750 miles they do not care, and they will not fix it. I was also told that why new Jeeps take 6 qt's since they use so much oil. I even have a warranty and they still will not fix it. There are no oil leaks and I have had 2 oil consumption test ran on the vehicle by the dealership. The dealership and Chrysler will not help fix the problem. I was told by the dealership that I am lucky it does not use a quart of oil every 1000 miles, since it may get low enough to burn the engine up in under 2500 miles.

58 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 07/28/2010

My vehicle spills fuel out of the filler area every time I fill up. The fuel gets on me, the vehicle, and the ground. I have contacted Chrysler about the matter, and they advise me because I am outside the time frame for their TSB, any repairs would have to be paid by me. After thoroughly researching the matter, it seems this is a wide spread concern. Chrysler has addressed the issue for some, but not others because "we're outside the window". Please see your code #pe10032. Also, my vehicle consumes or burns oil at the rate of one quart per 1000 miles. Again, research shows this is another wide spread matter attributed to faulty motor construction of some 2007/2008 engines. Owners who have had the repair done under warranty found that on three pistons, ring gaps where in a line, the other three where close, all six oil expander rings and piston rods where installed upside down. Chrysler will address the matter only if you are still under warranty. I do not understand why the cost should be bared by the consumer when both matters are so common and wide spread as to indicate design flaws in the product. Why should I pay for their inability to build a component correctly?.

59 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 06/25/2010

Intermittent problem occuring almost exclusively at highway speeds. While driving at highway speeds suddenly, without warning, the vehicle shuts off. All warning lights on the dash board appear, engine completely shuts off which leads to power steering failure and loss of safe control of the vehicle. While the engine shut off is intermittent and does not last for more than a few seconds before it turns back on without use of the key or any other means of manually restarting the vehicle, it is highly unsafe and can lead to severe injury or death. We have noted this issue occuring approximately 1-2 times per month. We finally took the vehicle to the dealership to service and locate the issue with the vehicle on October 20, 2011. The dealership stated they could not find any issues with the vehicle, with the exception of unusally high oil consumption. The dealership advised we do an oil consumption test which will be completed in 3000 miles or 3 months.

60 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2009 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 03/29/2009

From new this engine burns over 1 quart to 3 quarts of oil per 1000 miles traveled, if you do an oil change at 5000 miles as is recommended there is no oil left in the motor, mopar says this is normal oil consumption.

61 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 03/01/2009

I have a 2008 Jeep Wrangler sahara that I have owned since it had 100 miles on it. It is burning through oil a lot. Took to dealership for oils consumptions test and they say it is normal to burn through 1 quart of oil for every 750 miles. Figured this out because everytime I was getting an oil change (was using synthetic) at 6k I was being told the oil was bone dry. Not good.

62 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 03/10/2008

Oil consumption issue, vehicle uses 3 to 4 quarts of oil between 3,000 mile oil changes, has done so since 25,000 miles. I've also have a popping feeling from the front end or steering component when vehicle has warmed up. You'll feel the pop in the steering wheel and fuel pedal. The dealerships from both florida and tennessee stated no problem found multiple times.

63 Engine Burning Oil problem of the 2004 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 06/01/2005

2004 Jeep Wrangler burning alot of oil. Mechanic refuses to repair. The engine used to burn a half a quart of oil between oil changes. That has increased to 1 quart of oil between oil changes.
