3 Engine Failure problem of the 2012 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 04/25/2019

I love my Jeep, but for the past year we have had a love hate relationship. Today I received a letter indicating that the power control module might need reprogramming. Interesting enough this went bad on my 2012 Jeep a year ago. Shortly thereafter my engine failed. Now that I see there was an issue with the pcm needing reprogrammed it made sense why a Jeep with barely 90,000 miles would have an engine that failed, especially considering that I was never rough with it, and always gave it appropriate oil changes. It took me the better part of a year to pay off the cost of the new engine, and when you've got a car this new, there really isn't a good option besides knuckling down and paying for the fix. I would love to love my Jeep again. When this happened it was very cold outside, my Jeep sat outside overnight. While driving to school the temp gauge pinged. I limped it back to a dealership (no Jeep dealers in my hometown) and eventually found out the problem. After what I thought was an initial fix, it was determined that the engine had actually failed and I subsequently had it replaced at a Jeep dealership. I can provide proof of the replacement if necessary.

5 Engine Failure problem of the 2011 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 10/29/2018

I bought my Jeep with 67,000 miles, within a year before reaching 100,000 miles it was only at about 99,000miles when this happened and apparently the engine wasn't lubricating correctly and a bearing in the engine shattered. Even though I change my oil every 3,000 miles with high mileage because my spouse works on cars he is always making sure. After looking into this further this engine is known throughout the Jeep community to fail before reaching 100,000 miles yet Jeep still has not used an extension for the engine. I spent almost 20,000 dollars on this vehicle one year ago and now I'm driving around with an engine that will fail soon because I have to get to work somehow and the warrenty on the vehicle was only a five year 100,000 miles warrenty so it doesn't cover it. I think Jeep should be ashamed for selling people these engines knowing they will fail before 100,000 miles and that they should be responsible and extend the original warranties to 10 yr 150,000 miles for people who expierience this kind of engine failure and now have to purchase a new engine out of pocket. I need someone to contact me regarding this issue I will not sit back and remain silent until it is resolved. I am a single mother living on limited income and have to take from my savings to cover an entire new engine. For a car I bought 1 year ago and didn't even go 100,000 miles before exploding. And I didn't even put the most miles on it. I've only gone about 40,000 miles. So in reality this was most likely an issue before I bought the vehicle.

6 Engine Failure problem of the 2012 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 08/13/2018

Stationary vehicle starts when I open the door without having key in ignition. Stationary vehicle engine fails to shut off when I turn off ignition and remove key. Anti-lock brake system locks up brakes while vehicle is standing still and will not move under any throttle amount because the brakes remain locked up. Vehicle factory alarm turns on and off randomly when drivers door is opened. Windows roll down by themselves while vehicle is turned off. Air conditioner blower (can't say if compressor keeps running or not) randomly shuts off while driving down the road and comes back on a couple of minutes later. Cruise control will not accept speed set but then turns 5 minutes later whether you wanted it to or not. Everything points to the tipm but even with 10's of thousands of complaints fiat/Chrysler still insist there is no Wrangler tipm problem, and u. S. Government oversight groups refuse to do anything about it. (when did this happen date is just the latest occurrence of an ongoing serious safety issue that fiat/Chrysler refuses to acknowledge. .

8 Engine Failure problem of the 2014 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 01/15/2018

Oil cooler housing cracked. This occurred at less than 40,000. I was lucky that I noticed it in my garage rather then while driving the vehicle. The vehicle had to be towed for repairs. If I had been driving it could have caused engine failure. Covered under power train warranty but seems to be a common theme with the 2014s. Come on fca can you seriously cant fix this issue. I mean really.

9 Engine Failure problem of the 2014 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 12/04/2016

On 12/04/2016 I was driving on the freeway at around 80mph when a load explosion stopped my engine. I immediate stopped as smoke started to come inside the cabin. As soon as I exited the vehicle I noticed a big fire under the car and insure the hood. I was able to put the fire out using 3 fire extinguishers. This really could've escalated quickly. I noticed a big hole on the side of the engine. Looks like it threw a rod since the oil pressure was low. Probably due to faulty oil filter mount. The exact reason for the engine failure and subsequent fire hasn¿t been determined yet as the dealer will ot look at it until Chrysler sends an investigator to determine the cause. Chrysler will not send an investigator and is asking for the dealer to look at it. It's been over 10 days and nothing has been done. So far, neither party has taken the issue seriously. The car is still under warranty.

10 Engine Failure problem of the 2011 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 06/26/2015

While frwy. Driving at approx. 72 mph / 2600 rpms and without warning or indication of malfunction, we heard a pop, and immediately noticed smoke coming from the vehicle. The driver maneuvered the vehicle to the right shoulder. Upon exiting the vehicle I noticed smoke and flames coming from the underside and engine compartment. My family immediately exited the vehicle and I used a fire extinguisher to extinguished the fire that was engulfing the engine compartment and undercarriage of the Jeep. After extinguishing the fire, I was able to inspect the vehicle. I noticed a large hole in the lower engine block just behind the oil pan on the passenger side. Additionally, the metal heat shield that sits just to the side of the engine was bent backward. It appears that the engine malfunctioned and threw a bearing or other engine part through the outer motor casing releasing oil and causing the resultant fire and damage. However, I can not rule out a computer malfunction resulting in engine failure vs. Pure mechanical engine failure. It has been over two weeks since the incident and Chrysler has just informed me they will not cover the repairs under the existing 5 year/50,000 mile drive train warranty that had not expired and was provided as part of the original purchase agreement in July 2011. Their response was "we have had the opportunity to review the inspection report and must inform you that we are not led to believe that the incident was due to a manufacturing responsibility. ".

12 Engine Failure problem of the 2012 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 08/03/2013

Cylinder 6 misfire - requires new engine head. Manufacturer has had parts backordered, and sevice centers are instructing customers to continue driving vehicle until part can be replaced. Judging by internet posts this seems to be a common defect that could potentially strand drivers or cause engine failure while in motion. Manufacturer is on 3rd version of part and has not alerted customers to the issue or provided resolution to the continued issue.

13 Engine Failure problem of the 2006 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 02/27/2012

Opda has a high pitched squealing noise coming from it. From what I read this can lead to engine failure.

14 Engine Failure problem of the 2006 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 09/23/2011

Opda(distributor) appears to have created excessive heat at the drive gear from the camshaft and caused a failure of a camshaft lifter or follower which wore down the camshaft and ran metal shavings or chips throughout the engine with the oil and caused engine failure. The oil level was full prior to draining it to see how much metal it contained.

15 Engine Failure problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 11/12/2010

My complaint and warning has to do with our 2007 Jeep Wrangler unlimited, saraha, 3. 8 litre. We had a pre-mature engine failure in our Jeep due to improper engine assembly during manufacture of the engine. The engine failure was due to the pressure relief valve for the engine oil by-pass valve being installed in the wrong order, causing the engines oil being only partially filtered. This non-filtered oil caused the engine to fail due to the dirty oil passing through the engine and causing excessive wear of the engine. Our engine failed at just over 43,000 miles and the failure could be sudden and put anyone that has this engine condition at risk if the vehicle is in motion while the failure occurs. I want to be on record because I do not want anyone to be injured or worse lose there life over something as simple as warning the public of this issue found in our engine, and also to be on record because who knows how many engine were assembled this way which in my mind should be considered poor craftsmanship. Total details, cost and the full extent of damaged can be extended to anyone who needs or wants this information, if requested in writing or email.

16 Engine Failure problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 12/23/2009

My 2007 Jeep Wrangler has had engine stall two times now at 50-60 mph. Causing light failure, engine failure, no brakes or power steering. I have taken it to the dealership two times, after restarting the vehicle. The next time it happens, they said call a tow truck and have it towed to them. This started at approximately 26,000 miles and again at 30,000. Both times nothing was found and the computer programs were current.

17 Engine Failure problem of the 2009 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 03/28/2009

We where driving down the road and the vehicle came to a sudden stop we smelt the clutch and there was oil on the engine and ground . We saw a connecting rod cap hanging out the side of the block. A mechanic removed the oil pan and found 2 connecting rod bolts broken laying in the oil pan. It was complete engine failure due to the connecting rod bolts. Have gotten complete motor from Jeep remanufacture.

18 Engine Failure problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 05/12/2007

I am here to report the stalling problem with my 2007 Jeep Wrangler. I experienced loss of electric power along with engine failure and was unable to start my Jeep for a few seconds while doing highway speeds. (I think I was doing about 60mph at the time). I know there are fellow 07 Wrangler owners who have experienced this as well and we would all like to see this problem resolved before someone gets injured by this malfunction. Thank you for your time. Michael wolfe.
