Vehicle loses power to accelerator at random, unpredictable times (could be at a stop sign, could be while traveling on a highway, and does not matter if car is hot or cold). Warning light (lightning bolt) flashes on the dashboard, and accelerator is sluggish to respond or unresponsive altogether. I have nearly been in two accidents while pulling into traffic because cars starts to go, but then loses power and the accelerator takes about 3-4 seconds to recognize I am stepping on it. I have had it into Chrysler dealership three times now, and they are unable to diagnose the issue. First time the accelerator pedal assembly was replaced. The second time, the pcm module (drivetrain computer/module) was replaced in its entirety. Problem started occurring around 30,000 miles, and has continued since (now at 41,500). Has nearly caused me to be in two bad accidents, which caused other cars to swerve/skid around me because I was stopped broadside in roadway. They would not acknowledge problem until they made me drive them around our city, and prove to them what happens. Luckily it happened while he was in the car with me, but the service techs are unable to diagnose the problem and continue to work with Chrysler engineers to no avail. Other instances include being stopped at a red light on a hill, and not being able to go forward in time, and nearly drifting backwards into vehicles behind me. This requires use of heavy foot on gas and emergency brake. Additionally, vehicle is a 6 speed manual, and sometimes 'pops' out of first gear while starting from a stop position. This issue has happened for the last 5,000 miles approximately but is becoming more common (nearly daily). I believe they will be able to diagnose this issue and correct it (common problem according to my internet research), however it does not appear they have a handle on the first issue. I have been told to leave my vehicle at the dealership until they can diagnose and fix the problem, it's not safe.
I was driving at 55mph and ran over a badly maintained road bump (a 3ft section of pavement spanning both lanes of a 2 lane rd. That had no stone in it to level it off) and my 2007 Jeep 4dr Wrangler unlimited sahara lost engine power. All power options in turn lost power. I managed to pull the Jeep to the side of the road. I turned the key off and attempted to restart it. It started back up with no further incident. This same power loss occurred once before after driving on a wet road on a rainy day. That 2nd occurrence lasted about 1second and then re-powered.

Vehicle: 2007 Jeep Wrangler unlimited x 4x4 . I was driving in 4-wd-low down a sandy hill and I hit a rather large bump/rut and the engine cut off , rendering the power steering and power brakes ineffective. Luckily , there was no other traffic in the area or obstacles in front of me, and I was able to bring the Jeep to a stop in 50 yards or so on a steep down-hill section of road. After bring the Jeep to a stop it started up again without problem. The Jeep dealer said they have not heard of this problem although I have found other's on the web, indicating situations where the engine randomly turned off. This was a major safety issue. If I had been in a situation with any obstacles , trees, cars n front of me, there would have been no way for me to stop or steer out of the way in time.
At 75 mph the electrical and engine system stopped functioning for 1-2 seconds, then resumed normal function. Power assist to brakes and steering were lost for this time, at highway speed.
On two occasions the engine in the Jeep jk, 4x4 sahara has cut off momentarily and within a couple of seconds cut back on. The first time was more noticeable than the second time. I have less than 4000 miles on the Jeep. I have taken the vehicle to the dealer and nothing was found. This could potentially cause a serious accident. Reading message boards, I have seen that others have reported this as well.
The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Wrangler 4x2. While driving 65 mph, the vehicle failed to accelerate when attempting to pass another vehicle. The contact stated that the vehicle would also lose power. The dealer was unable to diagnose the cause of failure. The current mileage is 3,000 and failure mileage was 1,000.
When traveling on the highway at 70 mph the Jeep will turn off for a few seconds ,and all the lights on the dashboard will come on, and then the Jeep started back up like nothing ever happened. I took the vehicle to the dealer, and of course they couldn't recreate the problem , and no codes were found so they sent me on my way. It did this at 1680 miles ,and it was very unsafe, especially at highway speeds, someone could rear end the vehicle ,or I could lose control. The vehicle is a 2007, Jeep, Wrangler unlimited 4 door sahara edition.
The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Wrangler. While driving 65-75 mph, the vehicle lost power and shut off. The dealer has not inspected the vehicle. The failure mileage was 5,000 and current mileage was 16,000.
The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Wrangler 4-dr 4x2. While driving 35 mph, the engine would lose power for approximately three to five seconds. Afterwards, the engine would regain power as if nothing happened. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer who was unable to determine the cause of failure. The engine size was unknown. The current mileage is 12,000 and failure mileage was 10,000.
While driving, the engine will cut out and all electrical power will be lost. After a short outage, electrical power will be restored and the engine will restart. TSB 18-036-06 (computer reflash) was performed after the first occurrence however it did not prevent additional failures. Second failure occurred at 65 mph and resulted in a near accident with a tractor trailer. Vehicle was checked by dealer following most recent failure and no cause could be found.
I bought my 2005 Jeep unlimited with 6,000 miles on it. I have been to the dealership seven times to have it fixed. My major complaint is it surges out of control when taking my foot off the brakes from a stopped position. It does it in drive and in reverse without warning. The dealership has no solution. I also have a problem with the steering wheel shaking once I hit a small bump in the road,as small as the reflectors that line the middle of streets. There are times the steering wheel shakes so hard that I have to let go of the steering wheel. They have replaced my steering stabilizer arm,I've had the rotors turned I've replaced the brakes. Replacing the stabilizer arm seemed to help for a short time. My other issue with this lovley death trap of mine is when I run the a/c the whole thing bogs down like I'm pulling an eighteen wheeler out of a ditch. The dealership solution was to come in and test drive another Jeep to see if I "actually have a problem". When I take my car to the dealership they keep it for at least two weeks and the problems are still there. My advice to other Jeep owners with these problems is to always take the back roads and always leave a car length of space all the way around your Jeep, and never use the a/c!these problems began at about 10,000 miles and my Jeep just rolled over32,000 miles.

Sudden acceleration occurred while idling in traffic while the brakes were being applied. This caused the vehicle to run in back of a truck. No injuries reported. Dealer was notified. The consumer stated that the dealer downloaded software to power train computer from the 1998 service bulletin. The bulletin stated that when the temperature rose to 103 celsius it could cause high rpm in parking lot maneuvers or stop and go traffic. The consumer stated that this should have been done to all 99 models. The consumer sold the vehicle.

1998 Jeep Wrangler, 4. 0l. These two issues are on service bulletins, but should be recalls. The first issue occurred as my wife was driving when the valve springs snapped, stopping the car in the middle of the interstate. Discussed in detail on service bulletin 182298, initially issued before I even purchased my car. It was very frustrating to find out that Jeep was aware of such a dangerous issue and did nothing to prevent such failures from occurring. The second is a very widespread and documented problem when the main instrument cluster spontaneously stops working, including the speedometer, odometer, air bag indicator, fuel gage, oil gage, etc. . . Discussed on service bulletins, 081599 I believe. You cannot tell your speed, how much gas you have, etc. . . Another implication is that the odometer is incorrect on many Jeeps.
