1 Engine Exhaust System problem

Failure Date: 11/23/2020

While driving on a state highway at 70 mph on cruise control, I was coming up an incline when my car suddenly started to decelerate. I tried to increase my speed by applying the acceleration pedal. The rpms increased without an increase in acceleration. I immediately put my hazards on as I was on a major highway with cars flying by me and attempted to get to the side of the road. My car would barely go 20-30 mph and my car started to "rumble" or "shake" as if I was severely out of alignment. My engine and oil light also came on at the same time as the deceleration. The engine light continually flashed. When I checked the oil, it was almost empty and my husband had just changed the oil less than 30 days ago. We have also been having to increase how many times we're having to add oil because I'm burning through it very quickly and I only drive back and forth to work. When I'd broken down, I was nowhere near a town or city and I had my 3 children in the car. I was scared and nervous trying to drive on a major highway only able to go 25 mph with my car shaking. Once I was able to get a tow, my battery died. The tow truck driver jumped the battery and turned the car on and my exhaust started billowing smoke out. My car won't drive now to get to a mechanic and im too scared to drive it. Ive already had 2 recalls on this car and I'd gone to kia before those recalls for those issues. I had to wait for the recalls for kia to fix it. This car just needs to be completely taken off the roads! between the lights shutting off and the electrical fire in my engine (which was another recall!) I will never purchase another kia! I do not feel safe owning one ever again!.

2 Engine Exhaust System problem

Failure Date: 02/02/2020

At acceleration suddenly bogged out. Turns out to be the 02 sensor and catalytic converter over heated, burnt out newly replaced spark plugs. This is the second set of O2 sensors replaced. Master mechanic says all due over heating from exhaust.

3 Engine Exhaust System problem

Failure Date: 12/26/2019

My 2014 kia Soul, VIN# kndjn2a25e7014198, broke down on 12/26/2019, only had 33,766 miles on it. The dealership said the downstream catalytic converter was clogged, for an internal melt down due to high exhaust temperature. Dealership said the downstream catalytic converter is not covered under warranty. This vehicle had the recall sc176 for ecu catalytic overheating protection (cop) logic update done on 05/08/2019 at 32,461 miles, invoice # k1cs806584, the recall says the catalytic converter may become damaged due to overheating caused by an excessive increase of exhaust gas temperatures. The dealership should have detected the catalytic converter was failing and replaced it when they did the recall inspection but they didnt. Now only 1300 miles after, the catalytic converter failed. Catalytic converter should last 100k+ miles. Less than a week and 130 miles after the rear converter repair, I had front catalytic converter failed at 33892 miles. (invoice # k1cs829713, 1/23/2020, it is repaired under emission warranty. I filed a claim at the kia recall department for a reimbursement of $1485. 58 for the repair I paid, case#13505076, but the claim was denied on 2/8 said they can only reimburse if the repair is done before the recall. When they did the recall inspection, they should have discovered the damage and have it repaired under recall, but they failed to do so and now I have to pay for it only 1300 miles after. The recall is a fraud, all they did is flash the ecu.

4 Engine Exhaust System problem

Failure Date: 11/21/2018

Safety concern: engine caught fire while driving. The vehicle is a 2014 kia Soul with 104,000 miles. The vehicle was being driven through a residential area at <20 mph when the engine made a single "pop" sound and the vehicle expelled a large black cloud of smoke from the exhaust pipe. The driver pulled over, into a gas station. Shortly before coming to a complete stop, the driver heard another loud "pop" sound from the engine area of the vehicle, followed by an additional cloud of black smoke escaping from the engine area. When the vehicle reached a complete stop, the driver exited the vehicle and opened the hood of the car, to discover the top of the engine was on-fire. The fire was as tall as the engine hood and wide as the motor. It appears all components in the engine area were burned/melted, including the motor cover, hoses, and electrical wires. The driver notified the gas station attendant of the fire, and used the gas station's fire extinguisher to extinguish the engine fire. The owner of the vehicle was notified this repair was not eligible for warrantied repair, which expired at 100,000 miles, according to the kia service representative. The vehicle was towed by kia to a kia dealership, at the expense of the owner, where it remained dormant for 5 days, due to a holiday break.

6 Engine Exhaust System problem

Failure Date: 08/13/2015

Soul+ has rotten egg/exhaust smell coming into the cabin as vehicle is driven. Cannot be driven with windows all the way up. Doesn't matter if ac/heat is on or off. Periodically, smell comes and goes as it is driven. Does not matter if it is surface streets or highway driving. . . Although it is more prevalent at 70+mph. Irritates my asthma. . . Lungs hurt after driving for a few minutes and coughing persists accompanied by a headache. Vehicle is driven to and from work under normal conditions. It was taken in to be serviced and the tech told me to use only top tier fuels. I have used them exclusively for several weeks and the problem persists. . . Seems even worse. Appears to be a leak in the exhaust system before the catalytic converter and/or a blocked cat. I'm afraid to drive it with the windows down. I tried to drive it three hours away to visit family a month ago and had to keep the windows down or my daughter would complain of the smell. Since this has started, there is also a musty/damp smell when the car is first started. Vehicle is going back in tomorrow morning. Vehicle has app. 7500 miles on it. . . So relatively new.
