My 2001 kia Sportage's engine will shut off without warning. There is no logic to the incidents: waiting at a traffic signal, driving in city traffic, driving at freeway speeds. Moving the gear shift selector to neutral and turning the ignition switch will usually restart the engine in one try, but not always. I have replaced two emission control solenoid valves, the fuel tank and the crank position sensor on the recommendation of the kia dealer and on-line chatters having similar problems quite a few of them. A recent visit to the kia dealer found o codes stored in the on-board diagnostic system. The dealership will not acknowledge the problem. The date listed below was an incident witnessed by my parents, actually the fourth such occurrence in as many days.

I have a 2006 kia Sportage. From the day I bought it ,it's made a boiling sound in the dash broad when I turn my car off. I took it to the dealership and dropped it off to have it looked at. When I picked it up I was told that my cooling system had not been burped right. So they drained the system and re-filled it. And that at should take care of the problem. Well it didn't !!!!!!! it's worse now than before. And to add to it, it looks like I'm growing magic rocks on the left and right side of the radiator. It's so green in color plus it looks fuzzy. At the same time when the car is hot the cooling fan will go on. But as soon as I turn the car off there's no more fan, ever. And for the last couple days the traction controls light on the dash is lit up and won't turn off unless I turn the motor off and wait about 10 mins. When I took it in for this I was told there was a recall on this, but there is two different systems and the system I have isn't the one with the recall.

I bought my 2001 kia Sportage new in March of 2001. Within two months it was at the dealer for repairs. Over the next 2 years it has been back 10 times! the problem is always related to the fuel system, specifically the catalytic converters. They have been replaced 6 times! the last time was in June 18th. On July 13th the converters plugged again. This time they were red-hot. I'm lucky they did not explode and/or catch fire. Currently the vehicle is unsafe and undrivable. Attempts for resolution with both my state lemon law and the bbb auto line have failed. If others are having the same kind of problem, someone is going to get hurt.

Ignition coils cracked and were replaced. Vehicle had a blown head gasket. Front left turn signal clips broke. Oxygen sensor failed. Right front door lock fell off. Vehicle had several parts on recall before the consumer purchased it and the consumer believed those recalled parts were the source of the problem.

Oxygen sensor has been replaced three times after routine service was performed. Consumer also stated the wipers were not clearing windshield, windows go up slowly, 4-wheel drive was inoperative, vehicle was loosing power steering, dealer replaced the fan belt, air condition was inoperative, wheel bearing were loose, weatherstrip was replaced, the engine boggs down while driving, front brakes were noisy.
Had to have rotors and pads replaced for 2nd time in 23000 miles. While brake job was being performed they found out that both bearing seals were completlely gone. Removed tires and hubs to find hubs completely contaminated with corrosion. Right front wheel was about to fall off. 4-wheel drive was also inoperative. Replaced both hus to include both rubber vacuum lines, four wheel solenoid and vacuum canister because of contamination. Car drove fine for 3 days , now it has a loud squeel and front end vibration when applying brakes at a normal breaking speed of around 45 mph. Service dept. Could not duplicate problem. . . . I will be returning vehicle back for further service immediately. There is now a groove in left front rotor after only about 400 miles of wear.

On 2-1-99 replacements were done to the surge tank assembly, air intake pipe and wiring due to vehicle stalling. However, on 9-1-99 vehicle stalled again causing lost of steering power which almost caused an accident. On 10-11-99 the oxygen sensor was replaced to correct problem. Prior replacements were not the cause of stalling.
Brakes: hydraulic brake pedal has to be pressed to the floor before vehicle stops. The lifters made loud noises & rattling & needed to be changed. Rear door is off line & not shutting properly. Customer states drivers side mirror fell off. The check engine light is on due to oxygen sensor failure. The rear hatch does not close properly. The customer stated that there was a ticking noise at engine when hot or cold, this happens all the time.
