2 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2017 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 09/04/2020

While the vehicle is in motion interstate or city street, the engine revs up without putting more pressure onto the gas peddle. On several occasions I had to hit the brake peddle to avoid hitting another vehicle and once pulled into the side of the road as a precaution. We first noticed this problem about a couple of months after purchasing the vehicle. I previously reported this to kia dealership, however he indicated that it would be the alternator or something that is causing the engine to not know what gear it's actually on. This happens randomly and at any speed. The seat belt light flashes occasionally although no one else is sitting in the vehicle and my seat belt is attached.

3 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2013 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 06/22/2020

I was driving as normal, on my way home. The car started to make a fluttering noise so I thought it could be my rotors. However, the car began to make a squeaking noise in the form of chirps and got louder as I tried to accelerate. I came to a stop at construction and when I went to go forward the car would not go over 2000 rpm. I pulled over and turned the car off. When I started it, it made a horrible screeching noise. Sounded like a belt flapping around and something else made the noise. I took it to a mechanic and he identified metal flakes in the oil. The engine is confirmed to have failed. The breaking of the engine is not to to user error as I have kept it very well maintained and had frequent oil change/ tune ups. The incident was out of the blue and would not have been able to identify the issue prior to the engine failing. Had I been on the highway this could have caused a serious accident, thankfully I was on a local mountain road.

6 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2012 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 06/15/2019

On June 10,2019 I was exiting off a ramp from the highway making a left turn at approximately 35 mph while the car was in motion it just stalled. I pulled safely into a turn lane and the car started back up. I drove it to the kia dealership and explained what happened. They told me I needed a new alternator. I replaced the alternator and 5 days later on June 15, 2019 while driving 60 mph down a highway in the passing lane it just died again. No noises were made with either stall, no knocking, no jerking. Absolutely no signs there was something wrong with the engine. I was able to get over safely, however this time the car didn't start back up. It was towed to a local shop and they told me the engine had failed. I asked why, they said they had no idea because the car is in excellent shape and they could tell it's been maintained. We had a second mechanic go to the shop for a second opinion. He thought maybe the timing belt. However, he said the engine was dead and the belt was not the cause because it was in good condition. Kia has an extended warranty for these engine failures, however, they will not fix my car. There are several reports of this exact situation. My car is the same make, model, year and falls within the mileage of the extended warranty coverage for engine failure and I just want the car fixed.

7 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2015 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 06/06/2019

This vehicle had a serious engine problem. The car stopped and cut off at a stoplight recently. Oil light and engine light came on. The car has a problem and now has to have a replacement of the engine part that controls exhaust, camshaft position timing. That is the engine code. The problem is that the engine will not operate correctly. Mechanic suggests that the car has noise coming from the engine. The timing belt sometimes won't let engine turn over. And there is oil leaking from in front of the motor. This is a problem combined with a poor seal on motor, and the oil pan had a serious leak. Vehicle was in motion when the oil became a big problem. Going to work and had to stop and get it looked at. Driving on a country road towards work, thankfully a farmer helped me since the leak was bad.

8 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2013 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 04/18/2019

April 18 2019 coming home on the highway, the engine started "knocking" real loud made it home (by luck) and the next day I called briggs kia. Had it towed and I was informed that the engine was "blown"and that they had to replace the engine. I have had this car a year and a half. I am the second owner and I feel that this engine should have not blown like this. My pontiac that I traded for this car had over two hundered thousand miles and the only thing I had replaced was the brakes, battery, fan belt and starter. Of the 8 cars have owned (all general motors) this is the first time I have had an engine blown in a vehicle. Kia dealership said they could not help me because there was no recall on that engine. So I called kia consumer assistance and they gave me a complaint number # 11203341. I was also advised that kia might be able to help me with "good will" to reimbursement for the failure of this engine. Cost of the engine repair was $ 8906. 59 and briggs did not lend me a loaner car. I had to pay for a rental at the cost of $ 280. 00 I'm 74 years old and on a fixed income and I had to take out a loan for the repairs and rental. Briggs said I had a 12/12 warranty(used engine) tried to call your office !-800-333-4542 but, was placed on hold for 15 minutes. I checked with recallmasters. Com and it stated there was a recall on kia Sportage with engine freeze up causing knocking noise. Please see if you can help me in some way. Thanks former u. S. Marine veit nam veteran.

Hubs were replaced the first time, seals were replaced second time. The heat shield needs to be replaced right now. Passenger side window moves very slow. Timing belt replaced early. Brake light comes on whenever I applied the brakes. I went to an auto dealer and had them check out the brakes. They told me that the master brake cylinder was leaking badly.

14 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 1999 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 08/24/2005

1999 kia Sportage has had timing belt replaced three times since I bought car new in 1999. While traveling on NJ turnpike, what we believed was the timing belt yet again was the crank shaft at the harmonic balance (which holds the timing belt in place) completely snapped into two pieces inside the engine. I spoke to several different kia service departments who advised me that this was not a normal thing and was in no way due to something we could have done. I was told by my kia dealer that the manufacturers warranty had expired last year and that I was responsible for the defect in the kia. The first three times that the timing belt was replaced the warranty covered. Now I am told I must pay for a new engine. Be advised that every time this happened the car was going 55 m. P. H. Or over. It is my belief that was caused by a manufacturing defect and that kia should be held accountable. There has never been any collision or any other event that has taken place for this to occur. We are just lucky that we have never been hurt or killed in this car!.

16 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2001 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 03/01/2005

2001 kia Sportage, stopped dead in the middle of a major highway. The consumer was unable to get a full alignment because the idler was defective, on 2 occasions the vehicle would not start and it had to be jump started, which was due to defective battery terminals, the radio, font brakes exhaust system, air condition valve cover gasket, front wheel bearing, cruise control were all inoperative, the vehicle has had 2 engine replacements, and the drive belts were out of tension.

17 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 1999 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 02/12/2005

I am the owner of a 99 kia Sportage with only 60043 miles. I bought the vehicle brand new. The vehicle stalled at 40 mph, luckily, it did not stalled at 75 mph while I was taking one of my daily trips to ok city because it would have been disastrous. The crankshaft sheared off flush with the engine housing leaving the main and timing belt pulleys disconnected from the engine. As consequent, the engine stalled leaving the vehicle without power in the middle of traffic. No one was hurt or killed because of this. Contacted the kia dealer and they will not take any resposibility for this defective part. This is the kind of safe product that makes kia customers not to be repeat customers.

18 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2001 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 10/13/2004

I purchased a kia Sportage from a dealership who said the vehicle still had its full power train warranty bumper to bumper for 7 years. The kia has low mileage and still does due to the fact it has been setting at the kia garage and they will not do anything to the vehicle. The vehicle had multiple issues with problems from the exhaust, front suspension, moto, and the 4wd transfer system. I cannot get the kia dealership to fix the vehicle saying they cannot replicate the problem. I have had to pay my local mechanic $100. 00 to find the problems and said they definitely needed fixing or the vehicle would run into more expense as time lingers on. The head gasket is blown and leaking oil, loosing compression and eventually the motor will fail to operate. My wife has a quadriplegic daughter who needs around the clock attention and she needs the vehicle to transport her back and forth to the hospital twice monthly, and she attends church with her daughter several times per month as well. I am afraid that the vehicle is going to malfunction with her daughter inside and if she gets cold then she faces possible sock, pneumonia and is extremely suspectible to any kind of sickness. Kia motors has fought me as well as their safety hook, line and sinker trying to save them a buck. If there is someone out there who will listen to my complaint please contact kia and tell them to fix this vehicle or recommed someone who will take them to court to bring justice into this issue.

22 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2002 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 12/15/2002

Been having air condition issues since 12/02 the problem is still not corrected. The ac problem has been long and on going. There is like a fog coming out of it once it has been on and then you hit the ac button off and some white flakes come out of it. The blower motor has been replaced in it. It was making moisture under my dashbroad on the passenger side. Still waiting for that to be done. Apparently they put the car up on racks uped the rpms and say that where the pressure should be at is not. It exceeds where it should be. Waiting for those parts to come in. Had issues with exhaust had entire new exhaust put on the car through out the month of August 03. Was done in pieces because instead of checking the entire system they saw one problem fixed that and told me it was complete. Well the noise continued took it back and under the heat manafold there was another probelm. Needless to say once a week for the month of August expect for the week I was on vacation. Have had power window issues with two windows not rolling down, was unable to duplicate the first time so sent me on my way and had to bring it back when they could witness the problem. Cup holder has broken, dome light, latch on back seat replaced. Fan cracked in 3 spots. Belts have had to be replaced after a 30000 mile checkup and power flush turn on the car and loud noise coming from engine. Was told that belts were loose. They should have been checked twice one wiht each service that was done. $600 service. They took it back and tightened them so they said. Next day noise again from them. Took it back into the dealer they had to be completely replaced.
