37 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2013 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 09/15/2018

September of this year my daughter was driving 70mph on I-80 with 3 friends and 2 dogs when the engine made loud popping noises and quit, luckily for all she was in the right hand lane and immediately pulled over, if not she would have probably stopped in the middle of the interstate. We had the car towed to our mechanic who informed us that the engine had seized and suggested I call kia and check for recalls, I did and was told there were no engine related recalls for that VIN, our mechanic then contacted the kia dealer he works with to order a new engine and was told that there was a waiting list and would add our name, we are still waiting and now realize that the shortage is due to kia's recall "sc147" which for some reason includes all but this VIN. Same engine, same car, same problem but not on the recall. Our mechanic has all the records of preventive maintenance and scheduled oil changes that should have prevented any engine problems.

39 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2017 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 06/07/2018

I have a 2017 kia Sportage sx turbo my car has not run right ever since I leased it. There were times where it seemed like the car wasn't going to start, cranking, but not turning over. There are times when I hear a loud clicking noise when I accelerate, which sounds like something under the hood of my car is about to break. And then I started having issues with my spark plugs. The spark plug on cylinder 3 has burnt out and caused misfires in my engine 3 times now, starting as soon as 9,000 miles. Before, the dealership I went to blamed it on poor gasoline or too much oil in my vehicle and never fixed the issue after being at the dealership 3 different times because of the misfiring I was experiencing. The first time I went to summit place kia, they put me back into a faulty vehicle without fixing anything. My car then failed while driving on the freeway, misfiring and not properly accelerating. Luckily, I was able to get off the freeway safely and towed to another dealership that replaced the spark plugs. My car started misfiring again, and summit place kia replaced the cylinder 3 spark plug and blamed the issue on "too much oil. " now my car is at the dealership for the fourth time after failing again while driving, severely misfiring, causing the car not to accelerate properly or drive well at all while driving it. Kia motors, inc. And feldman kia in novi have decided to replace the short block of my engine, still not knowing exactly what is going on or causing the 3rd cylinder spark plug to burn out. I am not confident that simply replacing the short block will fix this, unless they know something that is not being disclosed to me. I feel that there is something inherently wrong with the design of the engine of this car, and this problem will affect thousands of others who have purchased this vehicle.

41 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2013 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 05/12/2018

2013 kia sorento engine recall: I was driving on the freeway in southern California to visit family when I started hearing a clicking sound coming from my car. It sounded like a woodpecker and it happened each time I hit the gas. When I accelerated slightly to merge over to the right to exit the freeway when I lost power, the gas pedal didn't respond. I was able to navigate traffic and coast to a stop on the off ramp. When this happened the check oil light, battery light, and check engine light came on. I then shut off my car, put on the hazard lights, and when I tried to start my car again it wouldn't start. I had to be towed from the freeway off ramp an hour later. I keep up with the regular maintenance and this should not have happened to my car at 107,000 miles. The dealership that it was towed to told me that the engine seized up and they are not sure why, some part in the middle. . . I drive this road to visit family often and if this would have happened at another point in my journey I could have been in a very bad accident. Sometimes on this freeway there are little to no shoulders, blind corners, and very dark at night with high speed traffic. Had this happened during an uphill section I could have been rear-ended or caused an accident as I lost all power and the flow of traffic is fast.

44 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2011 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 02/22/2018

My car started getting bad gas mpg and loss of power and check engine light was on regarding 2 bad camshaft position sensors. Kia dealer checked the car and said the sensors simply needed replaced. I replaced the sensor and car problems got worse. Engine makes ticking noise when running. Kia service had no solution. After about 1 to 2 months I was driving the car on the highway and the car engine stopped and everything went dead. I had to shift into neutral and steer the car to the shoulder of the road fortunately avoiding an accident. I had problems with the car stalling while driving at least 50 to 100 times while stopped and while moving in the last 4 months. I had the car towed to the kia dealership service department. After a day I was contacted by the service technician and told the engine was seized up and I would have to purchase a new engine ($4500+). I've asked multiple times through the dealership and kia corporate what caused the engine failure but they refuse to give me a reason for the failure or investigae why the car continually malfunctioned and then died. The dealership said they would look for a cause if I paid them $1500 up front. Bottom line what happened to my car is the exact same as detailed in kia recall sc147. Kia refuses to recognize this, says the vehicle is out of warrenty and I'm simply screwed. I'm not paying $4500+ for a new engine when they can't even tell me what went wrong with the first one. Kia says my car has mpi fuel injection and the recall sc147 only covers cars with gdi fuel injection. The problem with that is that recall sc147 has nothing to do with the fuel delivery system. Despite communication with highest levels of kia America and the dealership I've been told repeatedly that kia will do nothing for me. Kia stated that my car engine to seize up and die at 78,000 is completely acceptable to kia.

45 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2011 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 07/16/2017

Kia recall - SC 147. This relates to the kia engine safety recall campain sc147 regarding the engine. On 7/14/2017 I was driving my vehicle on the highway at it just stops while going 45mph. Luckily I didn't have an accident. Before this happened, my engine started making this loud tapping sound. I was finally able to make it to my residence but was too afraid to even drive the car. I didn't know anything about the safety recall until I did some research. I called kia and found out that my VIN was part of the recall. I called my preferred dealer and they weren't already back logged regarding this recall. Subsequently, after getting my vehicle towed, I was informed that my engine blew up even before kia could perform this test. My fear is that more cars will be affected and there are several customers (including myself) that have not received notices about this recall. Many dealers are not handling this properly per the interim notices by kia (ie providing transportation to customers, etc).

46 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2012 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 05/24/2017

Driving down the freeway at 80mph (speed limit in idaho), rpms started to rev over 6k, heard a ticking sound, then a very loud bang, followed by a big puff of black smoke, all in the span of around 20 seconds. Car died on the freeway, had to coast to get in emergency lane. Then the check engine light came on. There was no indication of engine issues until it was far too late. Thankful the cars behind me were paying attention or I would have been in an awful accident with an 18 wheeler. Mechanic found that engine had thrown a rod and put a hole in the engine block. 106k miles on the vehicle, did not expect to have engine failure this early. This VIN is not part of the current recall, I believe it should be, as it has been properly maintained and should not have failed on the freeway with no indication of problems until it was too late.

47 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2013 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 04/24/2017

The contact owns a 2013 kia Sportage. While driving 70 mph, the vehicle began to make a clunking noise. On the day of the appointment, the contact was informed that the case was reassigned and the approval of the repair was denied. The vehicle was not repaired due to cost. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 17v224000 (engine and engine cooling). The failure mileage was approximately 88,000.

48 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2012 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 04/24/2017

Cruising along at freeway speed, 75 mph, vehicle momentarily lost power as if it was going to stall or down shift. Upon resuming speed, heard a tapping noise and a loud bang, saw smoke coming out the back of the vehicle and objects tossed out. Saw a vehicle following in my lane, swerve as if avoiding an object but did not stop. Coasted to the side of the freeway, noticed a trail of oil. Upon parking, checked underneath the engine compartment, noticed oil dripping and metal pieces, and what appeared to be a hole in the oil pan. Vehicle was towed to a dealership and was told, a couple of days later, that the vehicle may be subject to a recall for similar defects. Doing an online query, I noticed that the 2. 4 engine for this model was not a part of the recall campaign, although other models with the 2. 4 engine were. Fortunately, it appears that no following vehicles were hit with any of the debris coming off the vehicle. Upon checking the side of the freeway, I picked up what appeared to be a piece of the engine's connecting rod. Had this piece hit a following vehicle, it could've resulted in property damage or unknown injuries to its occupants.

49 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2012 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 03/28/2017

My partner was driving 50 mph to work on a local highway when suddenly the vehicle lost power. No indicator lights had come on. There was only a slight tapping sound from under the hood. She was able to drift the vehicle to the side off the road. When she tried to restart the vehicle it would not start. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was purchased and a diagnostic test revealed a ceased up engine. The vehicle had periodical oil changes as required to keep a vehicle in good running order and at the time had oil in it. At no time was there any leaks or drips or signs on pavement where the vehicle was parked of any oil leakage. We were told the engine would need to be replaced.

51 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2012 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 10/09/2016

Leaving a friend¿s house my car made a clicking sound. I continued to drive and the sound appeared to have gone away. Minutes later while driving 70 mph on I-85 n in atlanta my 2012 kia Sportage (without warning lights or any indication that anything was wrong) made a very loud noise and lost speed quickly. I put on my emergency flashers and moved across lanes until I could exit. When I got to the ramp the engine died and the check engine light came on. I was able to start the car again. It started off but died again. I tried it once again and it started. I put the car in neutral and pressed the gas so it wouldn¿t turn off. I threw it in drive and the car did begin to move but it never got over 20 mph despite the fact that I had the pedal pressed to the floor. Cars were honking their horn and passing me recklessly. I pulled into the parking lot of a pep boys center and called to have my car towed. It (and me) was towed back to gainesville, GA to the dealership at 11:00 pm . The same dealership where I bought and have had it serviced since I purchased it. Monday I went to the dealership to see what was wrong. The mechanic immediately told me that it was my engine after only having another mechanic start the car¿. It only ran for a short period of time. Maybe like 5-seconds he stated that the engine needed to be replaced. After further investigation I have since learned that this is indicative of the 2012 kia Sportage as well as a number of other kia models. I found numerous testimonials oniine where this happened to others. I also learned that there is a class action lawsuit against kia called the engine oil defect lawsuit where those involved in the suit share experiences eerily similar to mine. Kia of America and carriage kia have not been very cooperative in this matter.
