My vehicle had a an illuminated oil lamp on the cluster and an oil leak. On 4/08/2024 I took my 2011 kia of downtown los angeles to inspect my vehicle under safety campaign 174 (sc174 sl theta 2 - 2. 4 l mpi engine oil pan)- when kia of downtown returned my vehicle to me the invoice stated "oil pan was found not leaking , oil pressure switch was replaced" over the next few days I noticed I still had an oil leak so I made another appointment at kia of downtown la to ask them to look at the oil pan again under sc174 I brought it back to downtown la kia on 5/1/24 - this time I got a text message from them stating "verified customers concern upon inspection found oil pan to be leaking from seal" and an estimate of $845. 84 to repair it --- I called and spoke to my service advisor and she said my 'warranty was voided beacause of outside influences" which they said are small scratches on bottom the oil pan - I told them I dont think they can "void" a saftey recall -- I next called kia corporate office and opened a case -#16315441 - supervisor named 'richard"of customer care told me on recorded call that kia corportae made agrees with the decision not to replace my oil pan due to the scratches at the bottom of my pan that are no where near the main seal. Did kia violate any federal law by acknowledging the leak at the main seal and denying to replace the oil pan and returning the vehicle to me with a known safety defect - recall - sc174 does not mention any exemptions for the recall such as age, damage , negligence etc.

Driving westbound on i70 on June 3, in warrenton mo, my 2012 kia Sportage suddenly lost all power at highway speed. I quickly pulled off the highway as the engine shut down and I coasted into a gas station. The car would not restart. I hired a tow truck and had the Sportage towed 45 minutes away to jim butler kia. The next morning, the service manager informed me my engine had siezed and needed to be replaced. Kia will not warranty the engine even though they have replaced about 1. 7 million 4 cyclinder engines for my model year kia and other years as well. There is an open recall for my Sportage which I was never notified of for oil leaks that can cause engine failure. I have requested help from kia but they refuse to help me even though the car is within warranty time and miles but I am the second owner. Other 2nd owners have been covered and had their engines replaced at no charge I have read online many times. Kia knows they had a problem with millions upon millions of 4cyl and 6 cyl engines and replaced them but are for some reason refusing to help me with mine, even though I can prove I did the required maintenance. I was lucky I was able to pull off i70 without being rear ended by one of many 18 wheelers speeding by. I just want my car fixed like the millions of others like mine were!!.
Hi, on 04/24/2020 while driving on the highway at 60mph my kia broke down completely and lost the acceleration, a lot of oil was dripping from under the kia, and a lot of smoke came out from the hood. I brought my mechanic and confirmed me the engine blew out due to an oil leaking. I send the SUV to kia dealer in cerritos, CA as it had an open recall due to an oil pan issue. They just notified me the dpsm manager review my case and declined repairs under warranty. All that info was provided to me by victor representative at kia dealer. And I requested via email a report of the reason from the refusal to repair the engine. Victor did not provided me no report and just texted me it was due to a connecting rod that went through and block, and it was a lack of lubrication. That sounds hard to believe from my side and my mechanic as no engines fail due to a connecting rod issue. That's for I'm submitting this claim. I had a case number just incase is needed #13629204 and my contact info is per below if you need to reach me. Name: alam gutierrez tel# 323-532-4334 email: alamxr@gmail. Com.
I own a 2015 kia Sportage with 148,898 miles on it. Never had any problems, I kept up with maintenance of the vehicle and get oil changes regularly. The last oil change was at 143,122 miles. Four days ago I was driving on the high way and the check engine light and the oil light went on the car started to slow down and I could hear a knock in the engine. I immediately pulled over and got a tow truck to tow me to the closest mechanic. The mechanic said there was no oil in the car at all and it was bone dry but no signs of leaking. The engine is now ruined.

The oil pan is leaking oil.
Engine is locked up according to dealer. Oil pan leaking.
My car with 138,700 miles quit accelerating while driving on the highway. Had it towed to an independent shop since I was out of town. Told the bottom of my engine failed and there was metal shavings in my oil. Had normal maintenance done and 2 weeks before my car stopped running had it checked and oil changed. No metal shavings and no leak. My car had oil in it. Told by kia dealer that my VIN was not on recall list despite mechanic stating that what had occurred to my car was eerily similar to why the engines were being recalled. No reason given for my engine to fail. Had car towed to kia dealer. Kia dealer then stated that it would be 11k to fix my car. Called kia customer service. Once more told my VIN was not affected and that my engine would not be fixed under recall. Kia dealer stated there was no obvious reason why the bottom of my engine would fail.
Driving on a southern California freeway on July 28, 2019, the engine of our 2012 kia Sportage suddenly stalled. Brought it to the garden grove kia dealer the next day and met their service advisor martha gudino. She promised that the dealer would let us know by 2p what the issue was. She didn't call until after 4p with bad news: a new engine was needed for the princely sum of $9,087. 60 plus tax! in hindsight, we now know that martha was probably huddling with management on a strategy of disinformation. Not only did she not mention that there was an oil leak recall on this model but she said nothing about the ongoing class action suits, the car fire reports, and the 21 engine complaints lodged on carcomplaints. Com. When we picked up the car the next day, I, of course, mentioned the class action suit filed by andrea smolek and the numerous complaints mentioning exactly what our service advisor had described: "oil was black and slight sludged [sic]. Oil control valve (ocv) had sludge and metal shavings. " the service manager gudino was nowhere in sight remained silent about the issue and just collected his $129. 00 for the diagnosis, which would have been refunded had we forked over that $10,000 they wanted for a new engine. We didn't pay and had the car transported back to las vegas.
Driving 65 mph on freeway and suddenly all power is lost. There had not been any problems, no stalling, bucking, struggling. No check engine lights or system warnings. Kia dealership service advised the engine, although it was full of oil and had absolutely no leaks, was about to seize. The tech couldn't tell me why he determined that diagnosis, such as piston, rod/lifter, metal shavings, block?? quoted $7,000 for replacement and more for a used engine (higher labor charges). Advised that no one would ever replace engine in 2013 kia Sportage; should just buy a new kia. I still owe nearly $7,000 on the loan and had expectations of 200,000+miles on a kia. Online I found a recall for the 2013 kia Sportage engine for engine seizing, but he assured me that didn't cover my 2013 kia Sportage engine that was "about to seize", even though it is doing the same thing. I will never buy another kia for this reason and will join the online forum petitioning the NHTSA to issue an expansion of this recall. Kia should make this right.
My 2012 kia Sportage stopped abruptly on the right hand side of interstate 295 in NJ. I was just before the #20 exit. A large amount of oil drained from under my car. I called aaa and had it towed to kia in cherry hill NJ. I was told the engine was completely ruined. It would cost me $6000. For a new engine. I had gone to kia initially about three weeks ago5/15/19 because I received NHTSA recall 19v101 and I was having some problems with my car. I had to keep putting oil into it. And it did not drive well. They had never heard of the recall but checked my car and said that the oil had been leaking out of the engine and was allover the underbody of the car. Inside the oil was badly mucked up and had to be thoroughly cleaned out and they had to take the engine out to do this. They would also replace the spark plugs although they were not bad but they had the engine out. It was called a defudge on the engine. This cost me $1,600. 00 but they gave me a deal of $1,300 because I am a nice old lady. And they wanted to give me a break. The car was not good, it sputtered, and puffed out smoke as drove. It would not start right, and in town driving it would stall and sputter. I returned to kia on 5/21/19. They recleaned it again. It continued to have problems and sputter when stating up. The day before the engine light went on but then went off again. 6/6/19 aaaflat bed delivered car to kia and it is immobile. I am 74 years old I called kia by 9:00am I was told to call aaa and they arrived at 10:53. I had been on the highway side of the road for 31/2 hr. I was in kia for 6 hours waiting. I have had 4 kias and never had this problem. There was not any indication given to me that the engine was in jeopardy. Only thing that was mentioned was they were trying not to have to replace some hoses? they are trying to help me out with the cost. It has 109. + miles.
Driving on the highway when I heard a big boom. Smoke began pouring out of the hood. When I pulled over and opened the hood there was oil leaking and a small fire. Towed to the dealership where I was told entire engine needed to be replaced.
I was driving down the street at about 45 mph when something gave out on me. I was pushing on the gas and the car was not going anywhere. I wasn't sure what it was at first until I called aaa and had them check what was wrong. At first they said it was the starter because when you turn the key, the lights came on but wouldn't do anything else. I had to leave it on the side of the road overnight. That next morning I called a tow and had them take it to a nearby auto mechanic. He then told me that it was the motor that seized up on me and that it would cost me between 2 to 3k! there was a lot of oil that leaked everywhere but I had done an oil change about a month and a half prior. So I'm making this complaint because I've read about these types of situations that occurred with other people out of nowhere!.
Tl the contact owns a 2011 kia Sportage. While driving various speeds, the vehicle suddenly stalled. The contact discovered oil leaking under the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to american eagle auto (820 us highway 1 n, woodbridge, NJ) where it was diagnosed that the engine oil pan was faulty and needed to be replaced. The oil pan was replaced, but the failure recurred approximately three months later. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 100,000. The VIN was unknown.
I have an oil pan leak that is referred to in the interim notice sent to me ( NHTSA recall # 19v101 )that the dealer doesnt have the recall listed in there system yet & cannot fix my vehicle at no charge. I need vehicle to be serviced before it does major damage to my engine how do I proceed to get this done per the recall?.
Kia has recalled some of the 2011-2012 kia Sportage line due to an oil pan leakage issue. My 2011 kia Sportage suffers from an oil pan leak, as reported to me by my oil change shop, but was not included in the recall when I view the VIN report.
Premature bearing wear in engine. Bearing broken, hole in the engine. Car cut off in the middle of the highway and started leaking oil. Had to manually push vehicle onto the side of the road to safety. There is a safety recall for this make/model/year but not for this specific VIN number.
Car was running and began to leave store parking lot, car was knocking, and then entire car stopped working-power steering, lights, brakes. Car would not start again. After tow and diagnosis, the engine would not turn over. No oil was found in the engine. The oil light had been intermittently lit on hills but was not on consistently. Car had been knocking intermittently the week prior. Technician said that it was possible rod failure. There were no oil leaks under the car. There was no unusual smell until it died. Oil had been changed less than 3 months prior.

While driving my leased 2014 kia Sportage, there was nonstop continuous hesitation "bucking", with white smoke blowing out of the tailpipe, loss of speed therefore having to press hard on gas pedal to avoid accident by trying pull off road. This happens on city roads and highway. No dashboard light indicated there was a problem. The service advisor at destination kia said my model does not come with warning lights. It appears to be an oil problem. Oil level goes down with no visible signs of leaking. I only have 24,000 on my kia Sportage, with one year left on my lease. I am not able to drive the vehicle as I am in fear of stalling in traffic causing myself or others to be injured.

The contact owns a 2013 kia Sportage. While performing maintenance on the vehicle, the independent mechanic noticed that the upper and lower engine oil pan and seal were leaking oil. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 19,932.
Consumer's vehicle has a rusted gas tank and a bad fuel pump. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but the manager stated that Toyota no longer does repair on kia vehicle. The oil pan rusted causing an oil leak. Oil leaked from the speed sensor and oil seal. The 4 wheel drive was inoperative due to an outdated hub kit. The vehicle's check engine light illuminated. The technician found that the #3 cylinder was misfiring. Phone interview update (oct 31, 2005): the repair shop personnel (dave @ thetford's auto center @ 607-433-0319) indicated that the tank was rusted and was leaking from the seam. In addition, the fuel supply or return line was rotted at the fuel tank connection; fuel was leaking whe the fuel pump was turned on.

Automobile has been stalling ever since consumer has had the automobile. Mechanic keeps saying that they are fixing the problem, but it does not stop vehicle from stalling. Vehicle has been to dealer repeatedly for this problem as well as others (air flow wiring, air conditioning, oil leak, dome light, turn signal, thermostat).
Connector corrosion caused vehicle not to start. Also, there was a camshaft oil leak. While driving vehicle at 65mph, engine started to race. Was as if someone put vehicle in neutral and stepped on gas.
