As we were driving my niece home from school about a block from her house, the car started loosing power and when we pulled over to let her out, the car shut off on its own and would not start back on. We waited a while and tried to turn it back on, but it did not do anything. There were no messages or anything saying something was wrong.

I was driving from work to come home, I notice somthing was wrong. I put my emergency lights on and the vehicle shut down in the middle of road. I had assistants help me pushed to the side of road. I gave the car a few jumps starts but it didn't work. Then the vehicle started smoking I wasn't sure where it was coming from. Car began to lose power and then started cutting out completely. Which lead me to tow my vehicle to my home. Weeks later I rececived a notication about a recall an engine compartment. I notifyed the dealership about the recall. I was told they cant do nothing untill the second letter, its been 4 months now my car still doesnt work, I'm paying monthly payments for the vehcile. . Taking public buses to go to work. If national highway traffic safety administration really cared about our safety it shouldn't take this long to get the job done.

I was driving my vehicle on cruise control at 77 mph on I-95 with my entire family. The engine just shut off and the engine light came on along with all of the other lights on the dashboard. We had to try to pull over without causing an accident and make it to the side of the highway in which we could safely wait for help. The kia dealership in st. Augustine (family kia) did not acknowledge the TSB pi1803y/z (rev4) or offer this to me. I believe that kia should be concerned about keeping the consumers feeling safe in their vehicles and give us a reason to recommend the kia brand. There are several complaints online about this issue. Kia needs to make it right for me and for other kia consumers.

I had a recall on my kia for sc200sl engine inspect/test/repair. I make any appointment on with kia company to check and repair, inspect engine or replace it on as the recall describe it. I went there that day the take the car on their shop for inspect it. It took like one hour to them to finished it. They tell me the repair and inspect the enginethe and everything. I went home I find out the did repair and inspect my car but the guy was just lie to me. The engine was still have engine check on. I call them to make another appointment because the first appointment they said the repair the engine but they did not. I went the second time , they told me to leave the car there for one day so that the can look at it again . They day after that I went pick up my car they said again the repair and inspect it now I should be good, after one day driving it the engine was getting worse than before the check engine come back on. The oil light comes on and oil level still full. So I want them to replace my engine or repair it . Anytime I go there they don't repair it. So now after about 10 minutes of driving oil light comes on and vehicle shut down or on red traffic light.

Car just shutdown on me doing 75 in a 70. Mileage was not high and maintenance wasn't need according to the dashboard. Car was great then just out of nowhere shutdown due to faulty engine they keep saying .

This car continues to have problems with speeding up and slowing down on its own, at this point it shut off any time I was slowing down for a light or stop. It cut off multiple times on a highway going 75 mph. Very scary with kids in car. Was able to get home and it will not turn over or start back up getting diagnosed today, there needs to be something done about this issue, I have read 100s of similar problems like this! kia your putting our lives in danger, pregnant with 2 kids and car shutting off on highway, or speeding up and slowing down by it self is traumatizing. Do something before someone is badly hurt!! also I am big and pregnant and driver door does not open I am assuming that too is an electric issue either way I have to climb over seats, this car looked great after 1 day door stopped working and within a few weeks of owning it now speed! kia you really need to fix all these issues seems to me there is electric problems all throughout the car. Driving down the road my car just shut down had it hauled home then had a mechanic look at it he said my motor was seized lock up he pull my oul pan it is full of metal it has 125000 miles I called kia its not in tje recall it has the 2. 4l engine how can 1 be on recall not tje other they tell me they cant help me.

We purchased this car from used car lot with a new inspection sticker. Vehicle had 83k miles at purchase. Vehicle engine blew at 84k miles. Driving approx. 40mp and the car shut down. Wouldn't restart. Garage said the engine is blown.

While driving down the road my car stalled and all dash lights came on. I was able to get to side of road. I thought it was a loose battery cable. Checked everything and tried to start and it turned right over. Then while driving I started to hear a knock then a boom and thud and the car shutoff. I was able to coast to the side of the road and wait for a tow. But now I have a 4 inch hole in the side of my engine and kia is saying my vehicles VIN is not on the recall list.

Addendum to the complaint dated January through senator marco rubio office. I received a letter from NHTSA dot that the investigation is open as to the "software upgrade", should be labeled recall and into the "theta engine", see attached. As I write this, my disabled husband is in a tow truck with the driver because he went to the dollar general store, turned the corner onto a busy highway and the car limp mode light came on, car shut down dangerously slow. Luckily he was not rear-ended. This is pathetic for Kia Motors, kia America to get away with this. These vehicles need to be bought back. They have no clue what is really happening. We took our car in a couple of months ago to courtesy kia for an oil change. They said all was good. Clearly it is not ! kia did us, two disabled americans wrong. Soul 1st, scammed into going more in depth because soul was bad. . . Knowing there is a major defect. That is deceptive trade practice. Plain and simple and dealer's are complicit. Please get these cars off of the rode. It has been noted on forums that kia is putting used motors. Please do something. We are not safe, our grandchildren are not safe. The manufacturer stated that the vehicle had to be towed to a dealer to be diagnosed. The dealer boniface hiers kia 880 s apollo blvd, melbourne, FL 32901 (321) 951-9595 now has the vehicle to diagnose the issue. The dealer stated that there was no fire even though the vehicle shows sign of a fire. The contact claims to have received a recall notice even though the VIN tool does not show one. The vehicle was currently still at the dealer with he contact in limbo as to what to do. The failure mileage was 90,000. Tf.

While driving at 40 mph on 4800 south street in salt lake city, utah the engine shut down. I pulled over immediately. I could not turn the engine over with the starter or any other means. It was towed into the kia dealer and I have been told the engine is seized up and has to be replaced. The dealer has told me this has been a problem with some of these 2013 model years. Kia has said this particular car is not on their recall list. If you look online the description of the problem of cars with a recall is exactly what happened here. I belive this is a real problem with this particular engine and kia is not standing behind it.

Engine was updated regarding software , but engine shut down while in hwy operation at accelerating speeds and immediatly shut down reducing speed to 20 mph may cause fatal accident if trator trailer rear ends you during this occurace since one was coming up or traffic in general considering people don't react anymore. While driving approximately 10 miles per hour while approaching train tracks the vehicle shut off the entire instrument panel lights came on when I tried to accelerate it wouldn't do so. My husband and I were getting off the interstate onto a ramp and the car shut off while driving without any warning and we put it in park and turned it off and it wouldn't crank back up and when we lifted the hood the engine was smoking. I previously taken my car to the dealership where they said they had to re program it because it was jolting coward while driving and this was very dangerous and almost caused me to wreck into the back of someone.

I was driving 60mph on highway 225 when the oil light flashed on then off and then I had no control of the car. The whole car shut down and I was able to coast to an exit and into a business (donut time) in pasadena, TX. The brakes were not working. I thought I was going to crash into the business. I stopped short of being in an actual parking spot. I was fortunate there were no other cars around this time. A lady who worked there came out and asked what was going because she could see I did not stop or have control. I had the car towed to kia and turned in my service records. They claim it was not maintenanced and had sludge and to talk to my mechanic. I could have died and they are blaming me for their defect. I am still under warranty with 50441 miles. After looking it up, I saw others being denied as well with the same issue. My car has the theta ii engine and there is a class action in progress. I felt that I should share my situation and help in anyway because it is unsafe.

My son was driving on route 1 in delaware at around 60 miles an hour. Route 1 is a 2 lane highway. The car shut off while he was driving at the above mentioned speed. After several attempts to start the car we had to get the car towed to my mechanic. My mechanic did a diagnostic on the engine and told me the engine had locked. There currently is a recall on certain 2011 kia Sportages with the engine bearings prematurely wearing and causing the engine to seize. I have a 2011 Sportage that is showing signs of this. Driver remote starts vehicle, unlocks vehicle and immediately shifts from park to any other gear, without pushing start/stop button, and within 10 seconds engine shuts off while in drive, neutral or reverse. Anti-theft programmed to shut off engine 10 seconds after unlocking doors unless the start/stop button has been pushed. Dear nhsta, I have a 2006 kia Sportage with 69,245 miles and have been in the dealer on 12/4/14, 12/8/2014, 12/13/14, for engine shutting off while braking to enter another lane or to turn. Engine shut off again while braking to turn at 9:00pm on 12/16/14. Engine light have come on at least 6-8 times before at which each time I went into the service dealer on 12/3/14, 12/8/14 and 12/10/14. Sometimes if it was during the day I took the kia directly to the dealer. However I noticed while researching that this is an electrical issue with a faulty throttle system. In addition kia wants to charge me $248 to replace a throttle. From the reviews issued online this is a safety related defect that kia manufacturer is aware. According to safecar. Gov the consumer should not have to pay for a faulty throttle (e. G. Or faulty parts) and should be replaced by the service dealer. Finally cobb county service (customer # 20964) suggested repair invoice stated that after replacing tps need more diagnosis time with vehicle in order to find out issue? I should have to pay for a safety related defects (e. G. 267 or more complaints online not to mention the safety defects of the 2006 Sportage engine shutting off), especially to pay for a part that will not guarantee that the engine will not cut off. I also filed an inquiry with kia on today 12/16/2014, customer identification reference number (#k2853397). I am awaiting a call from kia about this inquiry. I also believe that this is a safety related defect and the cost of repairs should be remedied at no cost to me.

At approximately 5:30am, I was driving down the freeway. My kia Sportage suddenly made a loud bang, and the engine stalled. After 2 weeks of driving my car would turn off while driving on the highway. Brought to dealership, dealership said there was no way possible of this occurring. I then did research online and saw that many other kia Sportage owners were having the same problem. Printed out the information from other owners and brought back to dealership. They said my battery housing was loose and they repaired. A week later my car shut off again while driving on highway. Took bag to kia they then replaced my battery and wires. No problems for a year same issue again. Car stalled while driving. I cant believe I have yet to get in a car accident. This time my warranty was up and I had to pay for a new battery and wires and the holder that the battery sits on because they said it was defective. It is now 5/9/2013. Today my car shut off again on the highway. I wasliving in new york and now san antonio texas. I have also gone through three thermostats in 6 months due to defects. This is ridiculous. Kia needs to recall the car not starting issue immediately.

2006 kia Sportage ex with v-6 has a habit of completely shutting down electrically, killing the engine and thus all lights, power assist to steering/brakes, etc. Previously this occurred only when taking off from a stop (previously reported). This time our daughter was driving at highway speeds at night in the middle of utah when this occurred again. She was able to get it off the highway safely without incident in complete darkness and no power assists. Car was running on cruise control so no driver function could have caused the incident. No warning such as engine stumble, flickering lights, etc,, it just shut off!!! once safely stopped, our daughter was able to restart the car and get to the destination without incident. Dealer is aware of this problem but is unable to fix it. Only has been taken to dealer for repairs.

2006 kia Sportage ex has repeated problem with engine shutdown/stall upon starting from a stop at an intersection. Both left and right turns. Both with and without air conditioning, and in all weather conditions also with and without lights. No code has shown up on the computer. No warning.
