The right rear brake failed with only 15,589 miles. Car is only 3 years old. There was no bad consequences due to this failure. Dealer replaced brake, rotor, and pads, but said problem was due to not driving car enough. He conveyed that mileage was too low for 3-year old car. I don't think so.

On a 2 month old armada witch has less than 5000 miles on it,the rotors became verry warped . My guess is that the brake components were from the smaller, lighter Nissan's. Dealer said that the parts would take four weeks to get here. Sounds like a long rough ride.

At 2 years of ownership and 37,000 miles my rear brakes have failed completely; calipers, pads, rotors, etc. All need replacement. Front brakes are "ok" for now and only half as worn as the rear brakes. This doesn't seem right to me. Of course, it is not warrantied since it is over the 36,000 miles or 3 years. I have read numerous other complaints from consumers about this happening to them too. I bought my car new in 2002 and have driven mostly highway miles. What, besides defective parts in the first place, would cause this kind of parts failure?.
Rear brakes on 2002 Nissan Altima wore prematurely and wore before front brakes. I think it is odd that rear brakes would wear before front brakes. Also, I had the brakes inspected at 18,000 miles and they were fine. Just 5,000 miles later my rotors were shot and car was not drivable. Took car to peters auto center in nashua (a Nissan dealer), they told me the following: 1) rear brakes were worn and rotors torn apart. At first they told me the cause was possibly something got stuck in there. Later they told me it was more likely corrosion. Calipers tested ok. 2) front brakes have corrosion and were not being used properly. The recommended replacing brake pads and rotors. After having peters auto fix rear brakes only, I kept the parts and took my car to frost Nissan. They told me the following: 1) it looked like rear brakes wore naturally. Calipers tested ok. They could give me no reason why when they examined my brakes just a few months earlier and they looked fine. 2) front brakes are fine, should last another 3 oil changes. Is 3 weeks too long to let a car sit? could corrosion cause my brakes to fail this quickly? I never heard of rotors rusting in 3 weeks! and recently, at 18,811 miles, frost Nissan of newton, MA performed brake system inspect and adjust. They found no problems. I find it troubling that my rear brakes are now shot, and that my rear brakes have considerably more wear than my front brakes. Neither garage could give me any explanation why rear brakes would wear before front brakes, and both garages thought it was out of the ordinary.
We first started to notice a deep, loud rumble when braking. . . Sounds like hitting a rumble strip on the side of the highway. The noise was so loud that my sister asked, "what the heck was that?" I have not had an accident in this car but have been made to take it in to 3 different dealers on 8 to 10 occasions. . . Everytime I take my car in -they inspect and tell me my brakes are dusty or glazed and or need adjusting. One dealership even replaced the entire braking sytem in August 2001- in December 2001 - another dealership is telling me that there is no way the braking system was replaced because my brakes were very worn and glazed/dusted over again or that there is some kind of problem causing the brakes to wear at an amazingly fast rate!!!!!!!!! I have written a 7 page letter -sent copies of service bills - requested a replacement vehicle -been frustrated with service-wasted many hours from work, and home in dealing with dealerships and Nissan north America and neighter will admit that they either can't fix the problem or they don't know how to fix it. We have had the run around for 2. 5 years. . . . The problem gets fixed temporarily and then comes right back. Nissan north America is telling me that I have to let them take another look at my brakes and give them another chance to fix this ongoing problem. My last visit for repairs was around may ? 2002 - the brakes are once again starting to make a deep, loud rumble when applying brakes -sounds to be in the rear end of the car. However, the noise is not always present when using the brakes. - sometimes it happens more in damp weather. Also, once the rumble gets reestablished. . . It become very loud, very obvious. Thank you for your time!.

Brake light came on in car, thought it was an electrical problem. Was told that I needed new front brakes. Went to 2 dealerships - both said same: front brake pads worn, replace front brake pads and resurface rotors. Total came to $247. 74. Since this car is less than 1 year old, am I expected to replace the front brakes @ about every 10,000 miles? this is a major defect!!!.
There is a leaning sensation on the left drivers side from front to back. Took to an alignment specialist, left front side had bad springs. On right side tie rods had to be replaced. Also, brakepads were wearing out and rotors were warped. Vibration while driving and bad shimmy when braking.
At 12,000 miles vehicle would squeal whenever brakes are applied with more pressure then normal. Vehicle been in dealer shop on three occasions. Dealer informed consumer that they are unable to locate the problem, and refused to look at the vehicle any longer.
Airbag - driver's side airbag did not deploy in 35mph head-on crash. Driver was severely injured. Brakes - brakes did not adequately stop the vehicle in 35mph head-on crash. Driver was severely injured. Transmission - transmission constantly slips, takes few minutes to engage from reverse to drive. Engine - engine won't start at random. Dealer findds no problems. Has happened 3 times since purchased vehicle.

Brakes have always squeaked excessively whether new or worn. Front defogger vents on dash separated from dash as dash continues to swell and deform over time in a premature manner I have also observed this defect on many other Altimas.

The brakes consistently squeal and now the brake pedal deploys to the floor; Nissan of smithfield notified. Car brought in for inspection, oil changes, etc. Service department does not want to hear that these brakes squeal and I feel something is wrong with them. There have been numerous complaints in the newspaper regarding this year, make and model car regarding brakes. There is something definitely wrong; I respectfully request that an investigation be made regarding the brake systems, the squealing and other relative safety factors of the Nissan Altima 1999 braking system. Thank you.
I have been having a "squealing" brake for the past couple of months. Throughout the entire day, my brakes would make a shrilly noise whenever I braked (at least 4 or 5 times throughout the day). I took my car to the mechanics and had a brake inspection done. The mechanic said my brakes are brand new. . . So I went to the Nissan dealer in cerritos. They informed me of a memo that Nissan had sent out to its dealers regarding brake noise, claiming that it was "normal" to have some noise. In any case, I feel that a 6 month old car should have no noise coming from anywhere, considering that I have followed the complete warranty instructions in maintaining my car. In addition, the mechanic that inspected my brakes also told me that he, too, had an Altima; and that his brakes started making noise since 5,000 miles. If there are any reports or any news in regards to Nissan brakes, please contact me. Your help is appreciated.
I have had continuous problems with the brakes squeaking on this car since I purchased it. I have had the brakes worked on on 3 occasions in a 6 month period and the brakes still squeak. I'm wondering if this is a common problem with the Nissan Altima brakes or if it is an isolated incident with my car. I have had new brake pads and rotors put on. . . Squeaked. Then we changed to organic pads. . . Squeaked. At this point, I am not sure what to do.
