Brake Disc Pads Problems of Nissan Murano

My wife was driving the vehicle on a frigid night and she felt that she needed to pump the brake until it hits the floor to stop, next day as she was driving from our garage it just slid off the sloped driveway. I needed to drive her to work in another vehicle. I had the brake pads replaced because the mechanic suggested that the sponginess of the brake might go away if I have a new brake pad. After the replacement it was if nothing was done to the brakes it was stillspongy.

Without warning brke pedal began to fade. No leaks, no warning lights noted. Dealer quotes parts at $1995 and labor of $400 plus to repair in conjunction with pads and turned rotors total $3,200. Note - this corresponds to issues with the 2009 and 2015-2017 recalled Muranos for the samed ussues est milaege 90k.

2010 Nissan Murano, in may I was traveling at approximately 35 mph in town driving as I approached a street light I applied the brakes. The pedal was soft and went to the floor. Standing hard on the breaks I was able to stop, narrowly avoiding a rear end collision. Brake fluid was at a safe level. Changed brake pads. I still have soft brake pedal. I have to drive extra careful and ensure I give myself four times normal stopping distance. I have been researching to determine possible cause. I see many issues that Nissan Muranos have had with brake issues. Brakes are a major safety issue jeopardizing public safety. Respectfully request that the NHTSA demand an inspection and correction recall for this known, widespread issue.

In October 2018, driving in a moderate rain shower, I depressed the brake pedal normally and felt the braking action start, again normally, but when I applied more pressure, the pedal went almost to the floor before the brakes stopped the vehicle. This problem continued until I arrived home. I took the vehicle to a service facility a few days later, the brakes were working normally now. The mechanic indicated I need new brake pads on the rear wheels (the front brakes had been reworked a year prior). After the repairs the brakes worked normally for a few weeks then started getting soft again, especially during rain; this continued for 2 months. In January, 2019 I took the vehicle to a Nissan dealer to have them troubleshoot the issue. They found a problem with the previous rear wheel brake repair. I had Nissan repair the rear brakes and bleed the system. Everything was good for 3 weeks then while making a turn the front wheels slipped and the brake pedal had to be pushed to the floor to stop the vehicle. I later tested the brakes (in a safe location) by "slamming" on the brakes while moving 30 mph. The brakes did hold but my foot felt like it was on the floor. The softness lasted 2 days but seemed to get better when I pushed the brake pedal numerous times while the engine was off. This problem has not been resolved as of this date. I am very concerned but how do you fix an intermittent problem without throwing money at it? the brake problem has only occurred on city streets. The 2010 only has 32k miles on it.

While driving the car the brake peddle became soft. The break peddle has to be pushed to the floor. The problem persists. I had a mechanic install new pads and rotors on both axles. As well, he tried to bleed the brakes. The problem persists.

On 1/15/18, I was driving to work on a snowy day. I was slowing down to take a left onto an on ramp when my abs kicked in. I continued to slide forward and nearly missed the on ramp. From that point forward, the brake pedal has been "soft. " I have to push the pedal down at least halfway before any braking occurs and typically have to push it to the floor to fully stop. I just got new brake pads and rotors in December, so these components are fine. I took it in to Nissan servicing, who told me that the abs actuator is bad and needs to be replaced. They have informed me that the vehicle is no longer safe to drive until this is repaired, which was estimated to be a cost of ~$2700 for parts and labor.

Unpredictable behavior when applying brakes. Pedal very soft. Brakes done work properly regardless of whether vehicle is moving or not. I'm concerned that this may lead to an accident. Pads are new. System has no leaks or air bubbles.

Yesterday on 12/10/2017 was coming out of my neibh yesterday on 12/10/2017 was coming out of my development road entering the hig yesterday on 12/10/2017 was coming out of my development road aproching an intersection driving my Nissan Murano 2009. Aplied the brakes and they went down all the way and the car did not stop. I went through the stop sign into the highway with my two daughters 6 years and tens years old. I was scared. Avoided collision from several cars on the high way by steering the car of the road to the grass. My brake pads were serviced two months ago becouse the samething happened. The car did not stop when I was pulling off my driveway.

On two occasions over the past week my vehicle brake pedal became very soft / spongy and went to the floor while exiting highway offramp. I was exiting at about 40-45 mph, the offramp is curved & was bumpy with a couple of potholes. Brakes functioned normally until vehicle hit a bump, then pedal gradually went down further to floorboard. Braking still possible but took power significantly reduced and distance increased. I pumped the brakes a few times and all seemed to return to normal. On the first occasion I got out to check brake fluid level; still fillled to max leaving line in reservoir. I was able to slowly and cautiously drive home. All brake pads are new, changed in March 2017. Please look into this issue; extremely dangerous condition for driver and other motorists / pedestrians.

The vehicle was in motion on a highway. Upon braking suddenly due to a red light, traveling approximately 40mph, the brakes lost pressure, and the pedal had to be pressed all the way to the floor to slow the vehicle. The vehicle had to veer into a turn lane to avoid collision with the cars stopped at the stop light. After being parked and shut down for 30 minutes, brake pressure returned. The vehicle has 59,817 miles. It receives regular service only at Nissan dealerships, has new brake pads, and full brake fluid. This is the second time the vehicle has displayed this behavior, with the first incident occurring sometime last year though not as severely.

While applying my brakes to stop I hit a bump and I couldn't brake. My brakes lost all pressure, the peddle went all the way to the floor and I was unable to stop my vehicle at the stop sign. I ran the stop sign and slowly I got my vehicle to stop by lowering my gear. I had already replaced my break pads and rotors last year and my fluids had been checked just a month ago. I took my vehicle to the shop and they checked my brakes and the fluid which were all fine. The shop was able to make this condition happen numerous times over and diagnosed the problem. The abs valve was stuck open when hitting a bump and thus no brake pressure. I looked on the recall website and noticed this same issue happened to the 2014 and 2015 models and this had been recalled for these vehicles. Also, I went online and found a blog of complaints about this same issue with the 2009 vehicle from other owners. This should be recalled just like the other years. Very scary to have had this happen and know that it may happen again.

My front brakes are squeaky. Even after having my brakes regularly serviced with pads and rotors the brakes still squeak. Their have also been times when I stepped on the brake but the car did not slow down as expected. I had to pump the brakes to re-engage them. Once this caused me to roll into an intersection which luckily no other cars were near me. Now my front left wheel has started making loud swooshing and screeching noises. The faster I drive the louder the noise gets. The squeak in the left front tire is also present when driving in neutral. I have an appointment to get the car serviced on Wednesday. Even after servicing it makes me nervous that my car is not safe.

Vehicle brake pedal very soft, spongy, and squishy at all times (even with new brake pads, rotors, and properly bleed lines). Have lost brakes at one point completely, brake pedal touched ground. I tried to slow down on totally normal road conditions, my abs engaged, but the pedal went to the floor and did not return. The top 10% of the pedal gives me 10% braking power, the middle 80% of the pedal travel does nothing, and only the bottom 10% of the pedal, just before it touches the floor, actually provides any real braking. As a result, the reaction time and stopping distance is terrible. This will cause an accident at some point. Nhtsa is investigating, but needs to act and issue a recall for 2009 Murano immediately.

My husband troubleshot the vehicle and there were no leaks, air in the system, or worn brake pads. He researched and found that if the abs fuse is removed the brake pedal goes back to normal while driving, but there will be no anti-lock brakes once the fuse is removed. When the fuse was replaced the pedal kept the firmness; this is not a mechanical issue, but more like an electronic problem with the abs.

While driving on a bumpy gravel road I tried to apply the brakes and there was almost no brake pressure available. Pedal could be pushed to the floor. Stopping distance was greatly increased and had there been traffic at the intersection it could have resulted in a serious accident. I pumped the brakes and got the vehicle to a level spot on the road and check brake fluid level. It was fine. I did not notice any leaks. Brake pads and rotors are within acceptable limits (passed state inspection one month ago). Managed to build up pressure by pumping brakes and got vehicle home. Nissan dealer cannot find issue. I suspect abs system triggered by bumpy gravel road. Very dangerous! no warning lights on dash at time. This needs to be investigated.

The contact owns a 2009 Nissan Murano. While driving approximately 40 mph, the brake pedal extended to the floorboard when attempting to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who examined the brakes and replaced the brake pads, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that a computer failure caused the brakes to fail. The vehicle was repaired and the failure was remedied. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 80,000.

My vehicle caught fire as I proceeded to pull away from a curbside parking space. I turned my wheel to the far left as I proceeded away from the curb and that is when I heard a pop sound, saw white smoke spewing from the front right side of the vehicle, then I saw the flames. Five days prior to the incident, I had front brake pads and resurfaced rotors placed on the vehicle. Within the past 30 days the only other maintenance performed on the vehicle was a standard oil change.

Two main problems with my 2004 Nissan Murano. . . . Biggest is brake problems. Brake pads and rotors have been replaced twice and there is still a noise when braking along with bad vibration when slowing down. The vibration can be felt in the steering wheel. Also, there is a clinking noise in the engine when taking off at slow speeds. It sounds like the motor is going to drop. This has been to expensive to fix, so I continue to drive it as is. Very unhappy with the quality of this vehicle. Many repairs including small that aren't worth having the vehicle. No dealer wants to take as trade in.

Brakes on our 2007 Nissan Murano, with over 7000 miles, still squeal excessively in reverse. We are concerned with eventual damage to pads and/or rotors and subsequent brake failure. At the dealer for a scheduled service visit, service manager recently claimer "all cars have same brake noise" and "all brake pads are the same", and "there is nothing wrong and the brake noises are normal. ".

Brakes/excessive squeaking especially in reverse. Horrible sound.

A 2007 Nissan Murano bought new may 2007and since new the vehicle has made a loud squealing sound from the brakes when in reverse. Car has always been serviced at the conyers Nissan dealer but even though the item was brought to their attention they said there was no fix for it. Another incident the vehicle was left at the dealership the whole day, to no avail. The most recent visit and after another complaint the service advisor checked the service bulletins and found that there was one issued for that problem and replaced the front brake pads. However that did not solve the problem and during a recent routine service visit the dealer said that the problem was with the brake rotors and pads which had to be re-surfaced and turned at a cost of $250. 00 plus tax. We do not feel that there should have been a charge since the problem existed since the vehicle was new and they did not have a fix for it at first. They are citing the brake warranty which expires after 12000 miles claiming normal wear and tear caused the problem. If they had fixed the problem from the start then this would not have become an issue.

The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Murano. The contact stated that the brakes would squeal when the vehicle was driven in reverse or when the brakes were applied. The dealer applied new brake pads and shaved the brakes, however, the brakes continued to squeal. The current mileage is 68,000 and failure mileage was 65,000.
