On [xxx] I was driving back down [xxx] , stopped at red light and when light changed to green, I proceeded to take off and as I got under the interstate overpass my vehicle abruptly started slowing down as if it was going to shut completely down and the panel in the dash turned red with a symbol of a car. There was a vehicle coming directly behind me and I am thankful they were not following me closely because it may have caused them to hit me from behind. A few seconds later the vehicle picked up speed and the red warning light disappeared quickly. 11/11/24 I made a call to Nissan consumer affairs to create a case (case#[xxx]) and representative opened and closed the case without escalating to a specialist for review. On 11/13/24 I took the vehicle into a Nissan dealership to perform a diagnostic on the vehicle and no code was found. I was told to bring the vehicle back in for a full day to troubleshoot. With all of the safety features this vehicle has, I thought issues like this would be recorded. I asked the service advisor if anyone else has reported this issue and he stated not on the 23 Murano but have received reports of other Nissan vehicles just shutting down. This could have been a very bad situation and Nissan consumer affairs did not seem to care when this issue was brought to their attention. Also have reported issue with brake pedal squeaking and wheel slipping when making short turn on driver's side. Issues are never found by the dealership in most cases, until the warranty runs out which is very short (3yrs 36,000). I attempted to upload document to support my trip to dealership, but received message that file is too large. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

Nhtsa vehicle safety complaint – 2018 Nissan Murano submitted tekisha y rousseaux castellanos vehicle: 2018 Nissan Murano VIN: 5n1az2mh6jn199173 mileage at time of issue: approx. 93,500 miles location: albuquerque, nm date of issue onset: September 17, 2024 summary of the problem: shortly after my vehicle was serviced at a Nissan dealership, it began exhibiting serious mechanical and electrical issues. These include: - transmission jerking and slipping between gears - uncommanded rpm surging while accelerating - occasional loss of power, particularly at highway speeds - dashboard flickering, resetting, and other electrical irregularities - brake caliper drag and significantly reduced gas mileage third-party diagnosis: a certified independent repair shop reported the following: - transmission malfunction (needs full replacement) - dragging brake caliper - engine overfilled with oil - erratic rpm behavior despite these findings, the dealership dismissed all concerns and returned the vehicle unrepaired, with no adequate documentation of the work performed. Additional concerns: I believe the vehicle was accessed and tampered with while at the dealership. After their service: - my dashboard and door panels were visibly unsealed or repositioned - the vehicle was held for extended periods (multiple weeks) - no paperwork was provided showing any actual mechanical repairs I have before-and-after photographs and text messages confirming this timeline and change in condition. Safety impact: the transmission failure, rpm spikes, and braking inconsistencies make the vehicle unsafe to drive. These problems pose a significant crash risk, especially in highway traffic or while merging. I’m submitting this report to NHTSA to contribute to any ongoing investigations related to this vehicle make/model and to help prevent further consumer risk. Additional observation – abnormal heat after driving after driving the vehicle, extreme heat can be felt rising from underneath the dr.

Car power steering rack liking bad, car has 46k miles this car should be recalled, is got major issues with power steering rack, in which Nissan didn’t do it right do to parts shortage, this is dangerous for my kids this car can burn any second, if you telling me that car at 46 k has a major power steering leek I would never buy this car, we took our car into Nissan they do not want to fix this, they asking $2100 to fix for what Nissan did when they build a car, this has to be on recall list for all Nissan 2017, , local Nissan is ignoring this problem, we will sue , this is a dangerous problem to have on the car, it will catch a fire eventually, start resolving this to avoid law suits. Nissan is recalling more than 56,000 cars because of power-steering hoses that may leak fluid and potentially lead to fires. Nissan north America said the recall affects the 2013-2014 Murano vehicles. The problem stems from the power-steering hose clamp, which may not adequately secure the hose. That could allow the hose to detach and leak power-steering fluid, the company said. Power-steering fluid leaking onto a hot engine or exhaust pipes could cause a fire, Nissan said.

This car it was in the garage. I almost never use it only sometimes to go in the store and this cannot happen. The car who passed just 46,000. Steering rack: power steering rack and electronic power steering fluid - power steering is very notchy. Upon inspection of vehicle found power steering rack leaking from the passenger side seal. Recommend replacing rack and bleeding power steering system. The steering wheel is attached to the steering rack by the steering shaft. When the steering wheel is turned, the steering rack interprets the directional input and pushes or pulls the front wheels in the desired direction. The steering rack is secured to the chassis.
The contact owns a 2009 Nissan Murano. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the brake pedal was depressed and went to the floorboard, with the abs warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with brake failure. The contact was informed that the brake pads needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not repaired after the failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 76,000.

Please note that although this system does not show that the recall repairs were complete, we have documentation from Nissan that we completed the recall work twice. On Tuesday, may 14 at approximately 5:42 a. M. Our Nissan Murano spontaneously caught fire in our driveway. My family, including my five year old twins and a seven year old, woke up to the airbags exploding. We got our family out of the house as we spoke to the 911 dispatcher and the Murano went up in flames. Our doorbell camera caught the incident in its entirety (from the smoke under the hood to the inferno of flames) and the montgomery county fire and explosive expert agrees that the start of the fire is likely from the abs actuator issue stemming from Nissan’s recall in 2019. We are also hearing that it’s the worst spontaneous vehicle fire anyone has ever seen. After the incident, in good faith, we contacted Nissan north America who referred us to Nissan’s regional office for our area. . . They told us we have to hold the wreckage in our driveway for 8 weeks or possibly longer and that they will not help us mitigate it or provide a rental. Had our Nissan been parked in our garage, it would have been next to our mudroom which contains the gas line to our dryer. Our house would have exploded and my entire family would have died. My children cannot sleep and my pediatrician has recommended a psychologist for the entire family. My son and I have coughs from breathing in the fumes and cannot attend doctors’ appointments because we have no safe transportation. I have missed work, the burned vehicle in our driveway is melted and is a safety and health hazard for us and our neighbors. Our garage door, gutters, and soffits are melted, and there is potential damage to our roof. There is exploded glass everywhere, and my other car is un-drivable, structurally unsound, and melted on the right side, having been parked next to the Murano and torched under 1,500 degree heat for almost 40 minutes. Will provide videos.
The Feb system is braking when not necessary, causing potential serious damage/injury. The sensor is also affecting my icc/cruise control. An orange light comes on while using cruise control and the cruise control stops/fails and will not reengage until I stop the vehicle and turn it off, then on again.

I lost brake pressure at a red light today. I ended up pressing the brake all the way to the floor and kept rolling. The light turned green and I pressed the gas and the brake started working after that and has worked since. I started googling and I saw this was an issue in older Muranos as well. I do not want to take it in and spend a bunch of money on master cylinders, etc when it may not be the issue. Please investigate.
Noticed a small oil puddle near the front passenger side of the car in the garage before leaving for work on 2/24/24 at approximately 530am. Checked all reservoirs and found nothing outstanding and left for work. At approximately 540am I was driving to work and noticed 2 deer avoided one and hit the second one while still attempting to stop. I slammed my brakes, had no abs kick on, and the pedal went to the floor and I still narrowly clipped the second deer. I was attempting to brake for at least 20ft before the collision happened with the deer and slowed down from 80 to 65mph. I found it very odd that my brake pedal went to the floor and did not set off the abs system and that the car took longer than it should have to come to a complete stop. After collision repair was done, thankfully just cosmetic damage, the dealership found both front brake calipers leaking the passenger one leaking significantly more than the drivers side. Due to the oil being found before that trip that day it has been ruled they were leaking before the incident occurred and this could have resulted in my car not being able to stop fully and properly and hitting the deer.
2014 Nissan Murano with only 43,000 miles had the abs acuator fail causing the brakes to go all the way to the floor. Nissan had a recall on this part for 2015-2017 Muranos. Mine is a 2014. Cost to repair is $2400 from the dealer. I called Nissan and they wouldn't budge as far as assisting with the cost even though it is a known issue. These acuators should last over 100,000 miles so mine lasted only 43% of it's lifetime. There needs to be a class-action lawsuit against Nissan for this part.

The contact owns a 2015 Nissan Murano. The contact stated while driving 45 mph, the vehicle jerked while accelerating, before the vehicle lost motive power. The traction control and impact warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that the warning lights had illuminated while stopped. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer and was not repaired. The contact stated the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 19v807000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The manufacturer was not made of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 77,000.
2011 Nissan Murano, while pulling into a parking area the left rear (drivers side) wheel collapsed. Fortunately this happened at a very low speed, (under 10 mph). Upon inspection it was discovered that the lower control strut had rotted out and separated from the frame causing the wheel to collapse. If this had occurred on a main road at speed it could have caused a very serious accident due to loss of control. In this case it did not happen, as stated it was at low speed and in a parking lot. The deterioration of this strut was never called out by dealer inspite of numerous multi-point safety inspections during normal periodic vehicle servicing. There was no warning of impending failure, it just occurred! neither Nissan or the dealer claim any responsibility for the failure of this part(s) both sides were replaced as both sides had rotted out.

The contact owns a 2017 Nissan Murano. The contact stated that while driving at 30 mph, while the brake pedal was depressed, it floored, and the vehicle failed to stop. Additionally, another vehicle hit the contact's vehicle on the driver's side; however, the airbags failed to deploy. The contact and her son were injured and received medical attention. A police report was not filed. The vehicle was towed to an auto repair shop. The contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number 19v807000 (service brakes, hydraulics). The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 42,738.
Front rotors and brake pads and rear rotors, calipers replaced at 79,342 miles. Third brake job performed on vehicle. Original owner and brakes still are grinding when driven.
June 8, 2023 11:26 pm eastern - 2015 Nissan Murano caught fire while sitting in driveway. The vehicle burned to the ground. Background - vehicle was taken to dealer to repair open recall in 2020 and Nissan dealer did not repair recall. The vehicle had no warning lights on or any other warnings. Vehicle was operating normal until fire. Vehicle had not been driven for 4 hours before the fire. Vehicle was parking in my driveway when the fire started. Fire fighters and police were called to scene to distinguish fire. Vehicle is a total loss. Purchased vehicle new and the abs brakes, actuator and other parts were replaced twice during its lifetime in 2017, & 2018. All services performed at a Nissan dealer. I have filed a formal investigation with Nissan USA and that investigation is underway.
Have 3 lights on dash abs, awd, and brake. Had the vehicle diagnosed, and was told it is the abs module. Shouldn't this be covered as a safety issue.

When driving at a slow speed and applying full brakes, the car rather than stopping quickly took more time to stop and thus resulted in an accident - collided with the car in front. There was a recall for this car in 2019 for exactly this problem - r1814. Apparently, the fix the dealer has performed didn’t alleviate the problem. I sincerely request you to perform a thorough assessment of the recommended fix for this recall to safeguard others from this serious safety issue. Also, if possible, I request you to arrange for assessment of my vehicle to confirm if my abs concerns are true which I truly believe they’re.
While trying to make a turn in a busy intersection, the car stall and loses power it goes into a limp mode. The car slowly limps out of traffic to the side. Note vdc off and 2 red - neg sign brake light is on. Turn the ignition off for a few minutes. Turn ignition back on and no problem. The car starts up no problem. I had the brakes check out and no issues. I took to Nissan dealership . They said it is the alternator. I had new alternator put in 6 months ago. Took back to the company who put the alternator on he said it is working. They said this car notorious for the cvt transmission issues. This problem has happen twice in traffic. This is not safe. . . . I am afraid to drive this car.
The brake pedal suddenly feels spongey out of nowhere. The car stops when the pedal hits the floorboard of the car. This has happened to me a couple of times now ever since I had my car. I have took it to my local pep boys but all they did was replace my brake pads. It fixes the problem for a couple months but it ends up happen again. There are no warning lights showing up for my abs or any of the braking system.

My 2009 Nissan Murano had a bad battery and starter, after replaced them the abs/vdc/slip control light were illuminated and abs function lost. I searched online and found a lot of the Murano owners had the same issue by just replacing a battery then got these dtcs. At the end we found Nissan know this issue and issue a TSB for repair with customer's expense. They know this is factory issue but not recall it or even not notify their customer, it's safety issue and still need the customer to search it and repair with the customer's money (to pay their faults). TSB: ntb10-113a.
The contact owns a 2014 Nissan Murano. The contact stated that the vehicle had been taken to the dealer for an unknown service brakes repair. The contact stated that after the vehicle was repaired, while driving at an unknown speed, the brake pedal was depressed and felt spongy with the brake pedal traveling to floorboard. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated the brakes operated better before the repair. The dealer was made aware of the failure and had informed the contact that a tow truck would be sent out for assistance however, no tow service arrived to help. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 44,000.
Brake pedal now goes to floor before brakes engage. This occurred after stopping suddenly. Mechanic changed master cylinder and bled system but no change. No warning lamps on dashboard.
The transmission started going out going around a corner passing a semi on a canyon road. There are thousands of reports of transmission issues with this year and model. Brakes shake and act like they will not engage.

The contact's husband owns a 2011 Nissan Murano. The contact stated that while driving up an incline at approximately 35 degrees and making a sharp left turn, the vehicle failed to accelerate. The contact then stated that he attempted to apply more pressure but the vehicle failed to accelerate and moved at slow pace. The contact then stated that after he was in the driveway, he placed the shifter in park then back in drive position but the vehicle hesitated then failed to accelerate. No warning light illuminated. The dealer was notified of the failure and an appointment was scheduled. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The dealer nor the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 131,000.
The contact owns a 2009 Nissan Murano. The contact stated that while her granddaughter was driving 15 mph and slowing down for a traffic light, the brake pedal was depressed however, the vehicle failed to slow as needed. The contact stated that the vehicle stopped in the middle of the intersection. The contact stated that her granddaughter was not aware if a warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The mechanic determined that the front calipers, brake pads, brake lines, and rotors needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the brake failure persisted. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 18v916000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 159,000.
Multiple times I will get a warning that emergency braking is not available for an obstruction. But no obstruction. The Feb system light will come on out of nowhere… literally nothing around! causing cruise control to disengage and not work again until I stop and restart the car ?? no actually crash has occurred, but if this can’t be fixed I see it as inevitable! please advise on what to do. This also I believe is the reason why I’ve had to replace front breaks and rotors twice in 2 years!!!.
My car’s abs failed to turn on even when braking from a far enough distance in the snow and caused me to rear end a car at 5 mph. I was holding down the brakes from 20 cars away and it felt like my brakes were unresponsive and all the way to the floor as my car continued sliding. Nissan’s voluntary recall was performed of flushing out the brake fluid and replacing it with the dot 4 and it still failed as a working remedy for its defective abs from what I have read from other owners. I love my car but might have to sell due to feeling unsafe driving in the snow. Please fix this Nissan before another accident occurs due to your defective abs.
