Today, Nov 26, 2019, a dry, sunny day near boston my brakes on 2010 Murano failed and car rear ended the car in front at about 10mph. Pedal went all the way to the floor , car slowed slightly but was unable to stop with plenty of space to do so in normal conditions. Unable to steer around it due to oncoming traffic on left and hill on right. Damage to both cars. Police responded and car eventually towed to body shop. . Noticed similar complaints but why no recall?.

Going approximately 5-10 mph on the first occasion just rolling over rr tracks and then going 5 mph off an exit ramp over a small bump in the road and the brakes failed/went all the way to the floor on both occasions. Based on the amount of 2011 brakes issues I have read about online tonight regarding the same going over bumps/bump/brakes failing issue, I cannot believe the 2011s have not been added to the recall. I either expect adding 2011s to the recall as the 2009's got last month or I need to know where to take my car to be repaired at no charge. This is a definite safety issue that Nissan has been made aware about is not a regular single part failing on its own.

Brake failure while vehicle in motion on city street. Brake pedal to floorboard with no braking action. Slow recovery with gentle pumping of brake.
The brakes failed (I was in motion) and I was almost in a car accident. As of right now, I have no brakes. There is currently an investigation into this matter by your agency and Nissan is currently conducting a "voluntary service campaign. " this is the second time this has happened to me and the second time I have reported it to Nissan and your agency. I never received a response from Nissan or your agency. There needs to be a recall not only for the 2009's, but the 2010's as well. This is a very dangerous situation and needs to be corrected ASAP. I'm lucky I wasn't killed today because of Nissan's defective parts (abs actuator). There's many articles on-line about this problem. Could you please help me and the others affected by this problem? as of now, I have no brakes and my car cannot be driven.
The brake system compleley failed and a rear axel came loose and almost lost atire driving before the brakes stopped and failed ijust had brake fluid put in the resivior too and they still failed on the vehicle.
The brake system failed back in August causing a total loss of my vehicle I sprained my neck nobody wants to know about what this single vetran has to say I was pulling into a gas station and the brakes failed and it was out of gas.
Tl-the contact owns a 2009 nisan Murano. The contact stated that they were driving at 35 mph when the brakes failed. They were trying to go around a pot whole and they applied the brake and the pad went to the floor. They had to pull over, park and pump the brake. They pumped the brake a few times and the preak preassure seemed fine again. No warning lights iluminated and the vehicle was not towed. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. This event just happened. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 70,000. Jw.
Brake pedal needs to go down to the floor in order to stop. I was driving on a neighborhood street applied brakes ahead of a stop sign before entering a 2 lane georgetown rd. Highway. Zip 28469 to make a right turn. When approaching next light 1 mile away I was afraid the brakes would fail. . Brakes went back to normal now. Still do not trust car. Yesterday, April 16, 2018as checked by car repair business and said the abs computer activator was not working. Nisssan would not let him access abs computer t0o reset numbers. This is very expensive to repair and should not be a problem. I am scared to drive this car. Read this has been investigated since may 2017. Is there a recall on 2009 Nissan Murano yet? please contact us about your investigation results.
Brake pedal goes to the floor when abs activates for no apparent reason. This has happened several times since the vehicle turned 50k miles. It usually happens when turning and hitting a bump at slow speeds. The brake pedal usually recovers after a few days. The vehicle will stop during brake failure but the pedal goes to the floor before it will stop which is very scary and dangerous. I guess someone will have to die because of this factory defect before a recall happens. My 2009 Nissan Murano was bought new and has been very well maintained. It has less than 60k miles on it now. Something has to be done about this brake malfunction before a death occurs from it.
My wife and daughter have had issues with the brakes going all the way down and not stopping the vehicle on more than one occasion. I have contacted Nissan with this issue and they said they would have to replicate the problem to resolve it. The hard part is this is totally random. Driving this car is like playing russian roulette. Both times my wife and daughter were driving, applied the brakes to stop at a stop sign and the peddle went all the way to the floor. Luckily no one was around. Both incidents they kept pumping the brakes until they started working again. I brought the possible recall up to the service tech and he asked for the VIN and said the vehicle does not have any recalls at this moment. So are we suppose to drive the vehicle and hope the brakes do not fail? this is a major safety issue and we are at the point of trading in the vehicle and never buying a Nissan again if that's how they treat the safety of their Nissan owners. By the looks of these reports, more and more drivers are starting to complain. Why is it taking so long to announce recall when the lack of doing so could possibly take someone's life?.
On January 7, 2018 I was approaching a stop sign and the street was a bit icy so when I applied the brakes the abs kicked in and the vehicle stopped with no problem. However, when I applied the brakes again a couple of blocks down the road the brake pedal went clear to the floor and the vehicle slowly stopped. This problem continued the rest of the drive home, with the brake pedal going all the way to the floor. Pumping the brakes seemed to help some and there was resistance from the pedal, but when coming to a complete stop the pedal again went all the way to the floor. This continued for a couple days. After some research online I discovered this was a common complaint for 2009 Nissan Muranos. I found several online forums that described the same problem, the soft spongy brake pedal, either after an abs stop or using the brakes for a bump or pothole. And it seemed like the most common solution to this problem was to replace the abs actuator at a cost of approx. $2500. Not what I wanted to hear. I took my Nissan to a repair shop and they verified that this indeed was the problem so without much other choice we had the actuator replaced for $2450 - invoice attached. From what I could tell, this issue has been a problem and has been reported by a number of drivers to the NHTSA beginning in 2012. There is an investigation ongoing (started in 2014) but so far no recall. This is a dangerous issue and needs to be addressed ASAP before someone's brakes fail completely and they are injured or killed.
Brake failure due to loss of brake pressure. As I'm driving over an uneven rough surface, I tried braking and loss brake pressure as I hit a bump. It's happened multiple times in the past as far back as 12/2014. The vehicle was taken to 2 different area Nissan dealers. Pretty costly diagnostic yielded no permanent solution, because it's back again. I called Nissan consumer line and they suggested going back to another dealership. Please can someone value the tax payers lives and do something before lives are lost. Please.
The brakes are failing to stop in a safe distance due to the brake pedal going to the floor. Problem is it comes and goes and usually starts to happen after a hard breaking action. There is currently an investigation already open into this problem but wanted to add it to the growing list.
The contact owns a 2009 Nissan Murano. While driving highway speeds, the brakes failed to respond properly when the brake pedal was depressed. The vehicle did not stop until it was in the middle of the intersection. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the dealer (Nissan of st augustine, located at 2755 us-1, st. Augustine, FL) where it was diagnosed that the brake actuator failed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 63,300.
The contact owns a 2009 Nissan Murano. While driving approximately 15 mph, the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard when depressed. As a result, the contact rear ended the preceding vehicle. The air bags did not deploy. A police report was filed. The contact received injuries to the left arm and hand, which required medical attention. The contact drove home with the hazard lights on because the vehicle was only able to decelerate instead of coming to a full stop. Once the contact arrived home, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle had not been repaired. The contact stated that NHTSA was conducting an investigation for the year, make, and model vehicle regarding the brakes failing; however, a recall had not been issued. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 103,000.
We have had two incidents now where the brakes have failed on our 2009 Murano. After hitting a pot hole while entering an intersection, I tried to turn right. I went to hit my brakes in the turn but found they were not working. I pushed the pedal to the floor with no change. I then repeatedly pumped the breaks to get some kind of traction and was eventually able to come to a stop. Because of my location in the intersection, I then had to continue to clear the area. The brakes continued to be "soft" until I was able to get to a safe place. I turned the vehicle off and restarted after several minutes. The brake system appeared to reset and I had no further problems. The first occurrence with brakes failing was several weeks ago, the same thing happened while my daughter was driving. She hit a bump in the road, and then lost all braking. Her speed was minimal and she was able to stop. The vehicle was turned off and restarted and there were no other problems until today. New brakes and rotors were put on approximately 9 months ago.
Soft brake pedal after hitting a bump. November 2016 I was going into a parking lot, as I was coming off of the pavement going onto the gravel my abs engaged and the brake pedal went to the floor. I called my Nissan dealership and they felt that when I shut the car off, all systems should reset. When I did that, systems did reset and my brakes returned to normal. This has happened 3 more times since, the last time was in October 2017 and the system or abs and the soft brake issues has not reset. To this point, I have always had some brakes, though the pedal goes almost to the floor each time used. My wife, and daughter, when they drive the car, feel there are no brakes. I guess I have gotten somewhat used to them. I am convinced that something needs to be repaired, but I am reading that it may cost between $1500, and $2400 to repair. The issue is very serious because I have read that some brakes have failed and caused accidents and occupants have been injured. I feel a recall by Nissan should take place, to help get these issues resolved. The issue is very expensive for us as owners to fix on our own especially when the value of the vehicle is so low. Would like to trade vehicle off, but being honest would be hard to pass issue onto the next owner. Currently, the brake pedal still remains soft and almost goes to the floor board of the vehicle.
Failure of abs hydraulic control unit, causing brake failure where pedal had to be pushed to floor to engage brakes.
On July 22, 2016 I left work and took the interstate home. I was in the fast lane traveling about 60 mph and had not been on the interstate long. I noticed that traffic was coming to a slow stop. I applied my brakes. At first it felt normal as if my brakes were okay, but then they went all the way to the floor. I was blessed that the traffic in the right hand lane was back far enough for me to get over. I kept trying to apply my brakes and they were on the floor. The car did slow down eventually. I was able to make it home by driving extremely slow and easing to a stop starting 30 yards from the vehicle in front of me. I had my Murano towed to a repair shop on Saturday morning and they kept it the entire next week. I was told that when they first got in the vehicle, the brakes went to the floor again when they tried to stop. However, after that first attempt the brakes started to work perfectly. They drove it the entire week to see if the malfunction would repeat itself but it never did. I picked my car up on Friday, July 29, 2016 with no assurance that the brakes would not go out again. Since the problem could not be isolated, no repairs were made. I continue to drive my car out of necessity for work but I am stressed not knowing if or when my brakes will fail again. I do have documentation from the repair shop but it is not online so I cannot load it.
The contact owns a 2016 Nissan Murano. While driving approximately 40 mph, the brakes failed when the brake pedal was depressed approximately 50 feet before striking another vehicle. The "please put foot on the brake and press the start button" warning indicator was illuminated. A police report was filed. The contact was injured and transported to the hospital. The vehicle was towed to a repair shop. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 997.

The contact owns a 2009 Nissan Murano. After driving over a pothole, the brakes failed to function and the emergency brake had to be applied. The dealer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who was unable to replicate and diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided no solution. The approximate failure mileage was 73,000.
When I hit a pot hole or bump in the road my brake pedal goes all the way to the floor and I may or may not have some braking. Takes a little time for pedal too become firm again. This has happened 4 times over the past year. No warning light comes on and it appears that there is a problem in the abs system. From all complaints on line Nissan does not know what is causing brake failure. I am removing the abs fuse so I will have dependable brakes until Nissan can determine what needs to be done besides replacing whole abs system. Have 88,000 miles on car. This is a very dangerous situation since brakes appear most of time to be fine, cannot understand why there is no warning light or code when this occurs.
The following complaint is focused on my 2009 Nissan Murano. Beginning in spring 2016 I have experienced several instances of break compromise including one that caused me to go through a red light, thankfully no accident occurred. Brake failure has occurred on freeway driving and city driving. These brake episodes occur with no warning and result with the break pedal going to the floor while the car was in motion. I've taken the car to three dealers. All three service centers said they have never heard of this condition. One claimed that this type of failure was impossible. I recently read there are others to experience this brake problem. I wish to add my complaint to theirs. I hope that by bring to light this dangerous defect, that you will force Nissan to step up with a no cost remediation.
Brakes failed. . . . Driving at about 45 mph on hwy 90 in pass christian ms. Coming up to a red light and applied brakes and the car slowed down to around 30 mph and then brake pedal went to the floor. Tried pumping the brake pedal but no respose from the brakes. We ran into a car stopped at the red light.
Brakes failed to stop vehicle when applied during moderate suspension travel (up/down) from bumps in roadway - similar to travelling across small speed bump. Must pump brake repeatedly to stop vehicle. Incident occurred at most any speed including highway travel. Dealership could not duplicate but did replace the master brake assembly however it did not resolve the problem. Vehicle returned to dealership when it failed to move after shifting into gear. Problem traced to brake booster failure. Local mechanic completed the repair which has resolved both problems - brake issues have not occurred since this repair.
Tl-the contact owns a 2009 Nissan Murano. The contact stated while driving approximately 40 mph, the brakes failed. No warning indicators illuminated. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 105,000. Tw.
On a very foggy morning, was doing about 45 m. P. H. ,realized I was coming up on a stop sign in my 2006 Murano. I stepped on the brakes, like usual and nothing happened. I slammed on the brakes, after normal pressure didn't work. My car failed to stop after I pushed the brake pedal as hard and fast as I could. I slid I think the brakes locked. I skidded through a stop sign, resulting in being hit by another car. My car was totaled. The other driver's car was most likely destroyed, also. Maybe, I imagined it, but it felt like my car sped up, in addition to the brakes failing. I have whiplash injuries and got badly bruised. I am lucky to be alive. I have (or had) an excellent driving record. Two days before this happened, I was coming to a stop sign and the brakes felt like they might be fading. There was no scrubbing noise, or the high pitched whine worn- out brakes have. The car had a little over 54000 miles on it , and was "my baby", so I took good care of it. Another reason it was well-maintained. I have 12 inch rods in my spine, and depend on my vehicle to protect me. Yes, the airbags, etc. Worked, but I believe the brakes failed, causing the wreck. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Front brakes are failing in an unsafe manner. Problem has resulted in a loss of approximately 25 % of total braking surface on the front rotors. Dealer has looked at the car and claims problem resulted from environmental factors (rust).
