1 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2005 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 10/19/2011

2005 Nissan Quest had less than a 1/4 tank of gas and light was on. Was at dealership getting brakes replaced for the 4th time. Took van to gas station next door and put 16 gallons ($62) of gas in. Restarted car and gas tank still read less than 1/4 and empty light/warnings still flashing. Drove back to dealership, they tried to reset and ended up disconnecting the battery. Once the battery was reconnected the fuel gauge showed full. This was oct 2011 with 46,000mi. It is now April and car has 55,000mi. I was unable to disconnect battery so had to continue driving with warning light. After about 20mi, gauge now reads less than 1/2 tank but tank should be reading full. There was already a recall for a number of Nissan vehicles for gas gauge issues. Clearly a Nissan issue that needs to be recalled and fixed across the board. Having to disconnect the battery to get the fuel gauge to read is not a good long term solution. Also this van goes through brakes at an astounding rate. We have had to replace the brake pads front and back 4 times in the last 30,000 mi and now need new rotors. Also have replaced tires 3 times. Most recent mechanic said van was poorly designed with brakes and tires meant for a much lighter vehicle.

2 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2009 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 05/02/2011

This Nissan Quest had the rear brake pads changed in December 2014. This will be the 3rd set (including the original ones when purchased) of brakes on the rear since the vehicle was purchase new at the dealer. The front brake pads are also on their 3rd set. The dealership states it is my braking habits making the pads wear out so quickly. The front brake pads wear out around 35,000- 37,000 miles. The rear brake pads last around 40,000 miles. The vehicle currently has 86,000 miles on it and was purchase new. I spoke to the dealership and informed them that if either the front or rear brake pads wear out within the same time as the previous ones had, that a Nissan representative would need to investigate. Within all my years of driving and owing vehicles I have never had to replace brakes like I have on this vehicle.

3 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2004 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 09/02/2010

Bad vibration when braking, changed rotors and pads on front brakes seem to make the problem less but after a period of time a clunking noise 5000 miles was starting to be heard. Control arm ball joint on right side had excessive play and was replaced, but that did not get ride of the shudder in the braking situation. Told it was warped brakes, replaced break rotors and pads 1000 miles . Still no difference in the shudder is still there rotated the tires no difference in the shudder. I had new tires in the car when the right front wheel fell off. No stud-lugs could be found and major damage to front fender and bumper. Our au pair driver reported a noise coming from somewhere but visual inspection did not indicate where the problem was. Continued to drive when the noise became louder pull off interstate to shoulder at about 15 mph tile fell off. Body and mechanical work will be done. To correct the problem.

4 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2004 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 05/30/2010

Whenever we hit the brakes our 2004 Nissan Quest shutters and shakes. We first reported the problem at about 23,000 miles. Van has been to the dealer at least 5 times for this problem. Mechanic can never find anything wrong. On our own we have replaced the front rotors when it was discovered both original rotors had warped, replaced the brake pads three times, and turned the rotors 6 months after replacing them (79k miles). Van goes back into the dealer next week again to have the problem addressed again as it has gotten worse. I am stationed with the military away from home, and my wife uses the Quest as her only transportation with our toddlers, older children, and guests. Van now has 114k miles.

5 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2007 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 02/16/2009

Our vehicle 2007 Nissan Quest was purchased new. It has less than 50,000 miles. We are already replacing brake pads and rotors. We have had some electrical issues recently with the windows not always working. The battery had to be replaced at 30,000 miles. We have never experienced problems like this with a vehicle this new or that we paid this much for. Have there been problems like this reported?.

6 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2004 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 06/18/2008

Van was in service to repair a broken cd player. During the visit, the dealer performed a free 21 point inspection, and found excessive wear on the brake pads. The brake pads were changed and rotors resurfaced 6,000 miles ago. The van has only 21,000 miles. This is the third set of brake pads that had to be replaced. In addition, rotors were resurfaced twice and replaced initially at 4,000 miles. The first occurrence at 4,000 miles was covered under warranty. Second incident, which occurred at 15,000 was not covered, citing that it was a wear item. The recent occurrence at 21000 miles which required new set of pads and resurfacing of the rotor was taken care by the dealer as a goodwill gesture. Nissan needs to address the concerns of public safety. Proper agency should also look into this matter further, because it is definitely a safety concern.

7 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2006 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 02/20/2008

These comments are to be added to the original complaint - 10222492. I took my vehicle to the Nissan dealer on two different times; once at 8,000 miles and another time at 15,000 miles. When I had my brakes replaced at 24,000 miles they said I was supposed to bring it in at 10,000 miles to check some "pins" on all four wheels, that control the brake pads. When they reviewed the work sheets for those two times, they was no mention of checking the brake "pins". A item as serious as brakes should be highlighted and shown on the screen, as are the oil changes and tire rotation. "check the brake pins" is not even shown on this screen. This is the most serious system of a car. I feel that Nissan should have a screen warning that tells you to have these "pins" checked. It is obvious to me that there is a design problem with their braking systems and the onus is placed on the customer to read the fine print in the owner's manual to see all these details. When in fact, it could be displayed on the driver's information screen. I feel that Nissan has blown the safety of their vehicles. This is the comment that I want added to complaint 10222492.

8 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2006 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 02/20/2008

I took my 2006 Nissan Quest in to have the tires rotated. The service manager said they reviewed front brakes and rear brakes and said they needed to be replaced. The front brakes had 15% life remaining and the rear brakes had 10% of there life remaining. The total cost was $626. 91. This van had only 24,199 miles on it. I wrote a letter to Nissan customer serivce. They said they could not do any thing about this repaid, because the brakes were worn evenly all the way around. I told them that Nissan should tell their customers that their brakes do not last 25,000 miles. This should be in the customers book. Instead we find out about this through a simple tire rotation. We have owned gm cars up to this point and we have never had any problem such as this. The gm brakes would last 40 to 50000 miles. This is a major safety issue that Nissan has not addressed and they should be sending out a bulletin to all their customers about this brake issue before somebody has a serious accident.

9 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2004 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 01/23/2007

The brakes starting making a loud rubbing sound. The vehicle has less than 35,000 miles so I took it into the dealership. They say all the pads need replaced and a rotor needs replaced. This is the third Nissan but first Quest and I have put over 50,000 on those vehicles without issues. They say it is not covered under the warranty because of normal wear but I do not believe that this quickly can be normal wear.

10 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2004 Nissan Quest

Failure Date: 11/01/2006

: the contact stated while driving 30 mph and when depressing the brake pedal, a scraping noise was heard. The vehicle was taken to the service dealer, who replaced the front and rear brake pads and rotors. The manufacturer expressed that the brakes were too small for the vehicle. Updated 2/12/2007 - the consumer had an 1993 Quest for 11 years. He explained that the 2004's brakes are softer than the 1993 model. The 2004's brakes are the same size as the 1993 Quest eventhough the weight has increased by almost 1000 lbs. The 2007's brake size has been increased.
