Brake Disc Rotor Problems of Nissan Quest

The contact owns a 2014 Nissan Quest. While driving various speeds, the steering wheel began to shake. In addition, the brakes were replaced three times. The vehicle was diagnosed as needing new rotors, but was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. The failure mileage was 51,000. The VIN was not available.

The contact owns a 2000 Nissan Quest. While driving 35 mph, the contact depressed the brake pedal and the entire front end of the vehicle and the steering wheel shook uncontrollably. The contact also stated that the steering wheel seized and veered to the right. The failure occurred on multiple occasions. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for a diagnosis and the mechanic stated that the brakes and rotors needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The contact stated that the brakes and rotors were replaced on multiple occasions. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 30,000.

Front brake rotors replaced at 4000 miles due to steering wheel shimmy when brake is applied. Problem resurfaced at 11000miles. Brought to dealer for the same complaint at 15000 miles. They found rotors runout for both the front and rear to be excessive. Resurfaced four rotors and changed brake pads. Dealer did not cover under warranty citing that it was a wear item. It appears as though the parts are not up to specification especially with the failure at 4000 miles. Nissan needs to address that problem. Two occurances within 10000 miles is not the norm. The rotor thickness for the subsequent model is thicker than one used on the 04 model.

: the contact stated while driving 30 mph and when depressing the brake pedal, a scraping noise was heard. The vehicle was taken to the service dealer, who replaced the front and rear brake pads and rotors. The manufacturer expressed that the brakes were too small for the vehicle. Updated 2/12/2007 - the consumer had an 1993 Quest for 11 years. He explained that the 2004's brakes are softer than the 1993 model. The 2004's brakes are the same size as the 1993 Quest eventhough the weight has increased by almost 1000 lbs. The 2007's brake size has been increased.

I am very unhappy with the 2004 Nissan Quest. I have had to bring it to the dealership on several occasions since I bought it with 12 miles in September 2004. I thought that the Nissan name would be as good as the toyotas that I have bought, which have lasted without trips to the dealer every few thousand miles. This complaint is based on having to replace the brakes and rotor at 29,000 miles; it was just the straw that broke the camel's back. Once I looked into the complaints listed, I realized that this could be a design flaw. When I inquired of the service manager about the brakes wearing so quickly, he stated it is a heavy vehicle and it all depends on how you drive. He stated that some people's brakes on this same make and model wear out even sooner, as if this was some consolation to me. Well, I have been driving for 19 years, and I have never had a brand new vehicle not only wear through brake pads so quickly, but right to the rotors without warning!! that's what infuriates me the most; once I hear a sign that the brake pads are thinning, I get the brakes repaired immediately because I am aware that if they are worn to the rotors, then the repair costs three times as much.

Vehicle started out with front end vibrations driving home from the dealership. Brought in and they balanced tires. Problem came back, they then resurfaced the rotors, however the problem returned and they replaced 2 rotors when the vehicle was 1 year old. The problem has now returned. I brought the vehicle to the dealership for repair. I am being told that I need 4 new rotors and that the rotors are warped. This is a safety issue that is a manufacturers defect and is endangering our lives and others out there. The dealership only resurfaced the 2 front rotors. They are all still warped. My van is not yet 2 years old. Manufacturer does not want to acknowledge a default. I have never heard of changing the rotors on a vehicle every 6 months to a year. We do not want there to be a statistic of injuries or deaths caused by a manufacturers defective braking system that cannot be rectified.

On August 5, 2005, after 16,328 miles and severe shaking when braking, dealer told me he had to replace front rotors. Three months later, light shaking began again. After period of disuse for three months, shaking became worse and dealer told me he had to cut rotors again (now I realized they weren't replaced. ) however, he said, it was no longer in the warranty. It was a result of my driving. I've had three Nissans before this and never had a problem with brakes. Rotors cut twice in 30,000 miles? I don't think so. This is only one of the problems I have had with this Quest.

2004 Nissan Quest. Excessive shake while braking, concern for safety plus it was quite irritating. Vehicle was purchased new January 2005, had 29,196 miles on it. Required the replacement of the brake pads and turning the rotors at a cost to me of $339. 98. Dealer and manufacturer refused to cover it under the 36,000 mile warranty, stated this was "normal" and "normal" maintenance not covered under warranty unless a defect in "materials and workmanship". I contend worn out brake pads and the necessity to turn the rotors at only 29. 196 miles is not normal and is a defect in materials and workmanship and should be covered. A 2004 lawsuit on Nissan for Infiniti g35 premature brake defect is similar to my problem and in that lawsuit Nissan agreed to cover repairs up to 36,000 and that's what they should do in this case.

Warping rotors. I have a 2004 Nissan Quest that as of to date has less that 38k miles on it has gone through three (3) sets of front rotors. After several thousand miles the rotors warp which results in a trip to the dealership to cut them. The vehicle becomes unsafe to drive when the warping violently shakes the steering wheel and braking becomes compromised.

Caller has had van for a little over a year and in November 2004 the brakes started making a noise and van would not respond to giving it gas. Caller stated the rpms revved, but the van would not accelerate. The caller said her husband hit the brake and the steering wheel shook. The brake rotors warped and the axle needed to be rebuilt. The transmission shift unit also needed to be replaced. Dealer replaced the rotors and they were rebuilding the axle and replaced transmission shift unit. Manufacturer has been contacted. The caller was waiting for them to call her back.

The 2004 Quest has less than 4000 miles and the steering wheel will shimmy when brakes are applied. Dealer confirmed that the front brake rotor is warped and needs to be replaced.

3 months after we bought our van the air bag light went on. . . 3 months after it was serviced for that the light went on again. . . A few months ago we noticed that when we accerlate the gas it wouldn't move. . . We almost got hit by another car due to the lack of speed it had. . . . . Also the doors would rattle & we would hear a springy noise coming from the front right side brakes. . . Not to mention that in April of this yr our rear brakes & machine rotors had to be replaced. It's kinda disappointing that we pay good money for a car that has been in the shop 4 different times & we owned the van for 9 months!.

2004 Quest minivan in for front end judder/vibration (6/04)@ 2000 miles-rotors cut same complaint(12/04) @ 7300+- miles-rotors cut and pads replaced same complaint(10/05) @ 15000+-miles-dealers states that rotors and brakes are needed and not covered said that because it's a heavy vehicle considered normal to replace pads @ approximately 8000+- miles and rotors as well. If there is no problem why cut rotors in 1st place, and then again with pad replacement in less than 6 months time frame? and now a 3rd occurrence ?.

Rotors are bad. Had the front ones replaced when the vehicle was at 4000 miles. At 16000 miles were warped again, as well as the rear ones. All 4 were turned and new brake pads put on at approximately 24000 miles. At approximately 29000-30000 miles, all 4 were warped again. New rotors put on the front only(due to the outrageous cost of new ones), and it has now only been a few thousand miles and I believe the front rotors are starting to go bad again.

The brakes heat up and the rotors warp. The steering wheel would start shaking when the consumer applied the brakes. The vehicle was taken to the dealership at that point. The consumer stated it happened every 4000 miles since she has had the vehicle. It first happened in March of 2004. The dealership is telling the consumer that the brakes are heating up. The rotors have been resurfaced three times. They ordered new rotors and they have been on for approximately 3 months and the steering wheel is shaking again. She has also gone through two fuel injectors. She was told that she is putting low grade fuel into the vehicle. Other issues: the passenger side auto door would rattle when the vehicle was in motion, abnormal shifting, engine light had come on, rear wiper had broken, steering wheel would shake due to the brakes, the front left seat back was loose due to poor fit, mouding on the rear of the driver's seat was coming off, the fuel gauge was stuck on empty after two fill ups.

Brakes grind to a stop. Vehicle is shuttering in front, when braking vehicle will jolt forward. Brakes and rotors are being replaced.

Front brakes made a loud grinding noise when they were depressed. When this occurred the brakes ate the rotors. This was caused by the caliper sticking and not releasing. Dealership replaced rotors/calipers, but the problem recurred. TSB 613461 dealt with this problem.
