Vehicle has plume of blue smoke each time it turns on, burning oil. Was informed by mechanic that it is a bad piston ring, which is common with this vehicle’s engine. It will eat through a full engine of oil in two months. 4k-10k fix. Car has 71k miles on it; under 10k miles put on it a year. Gets regular oil changes based on typical recommendation for a low mileage vehicle. Oil is checked regularly. This is in addition to a bad intake fan that needed replacing and cost 1. 5k that others have been complaining of where the car would severely overheat.

7 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2023 Nissan Rogue

Failure Date: 12/29/2025

I am reporting a recall remedy compliance concern related to NHTSA recall 25v-437 for my 2023 Nissan Rogue. In Nissan’s part 573 safety recall report, Nissan states that dealers will inspect the engine oil pan for metal debris as part of the recall remedy. Ecm reprogramming is described as a follow-up step when no debris is found. In my case, Nissan dealers were instructed under ntb 25-055b to perform only an ecm reflash and return the vehicle to service without inspecting the oil pan. Nissan consumer affairs confirmed to me that part 573 has not been amended, but that dealers are following internal bulletin guidance instead. My recall is marked “complete” despite no oil pan inspection. I possess independent oil samples showing visible metallic debris consistent with bearing wear, which were visually observed by the dealer but not formally inspected via oil pan removal as stated in part 573. I am concerned that Nissan is not executing the recall remedy as filed with NHTSA and is instead relying on ecm monitoring that may result in loss of motive power during driving, which is the same safety risk the recall identifies. I am requesting NHTSA review whether the recall remedy is being implemented in accordance with the submitted part 573 report.

8 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2023 Nissan Rogue

Failure Date: 12/15/2025

My engine has a recall. When I would start my car the engine would stop half way in son I went to the repair shop twice. One time they tell me, there's an active recall. The next time they tell me there isn't. Its a back and forth and then they tell me they are not going to replace it until Nissan tells them its okay. They told me to file a claim with Nissan which I did as per their instructions and the representative has be giving me no information for 2 weeks. Stating she will "keep trying and call me back" now they are telling me the engine doesnt need to be replaced but since October they were saying it does.

11 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2022 Nissan Rogue

Failure Date: 12/12/2025

The vehicle, a 2022 Nissan Rogue with the 1. 5l vc-turbo engine, suddenly entered severe limp mode: unable to exceed 35-40 mph on flat roads, barely 10 mph on hills, with high rpm and noise. The malfunction indicator light illuminated along with "engine malfunction service now" message and triangle warning light. These symptoms exactly match the early warning signs in safety recall 25v-437 for defective engine bearings that can cause progressive degradation, engine damage, or failure. The vehicle was towed to an authorized Nissan dealer, who performed the recall inspection (oil pan drop) but reportedly found no metal debris. The dealer then diagnosed separate issues—oil temperature sensor, coolant temperature sensor replacement, full oil pan replacement for minor seepage, and other warning lights—and quoted approximately $1,900 in customer-paid repairs, claiming they are unrelated to the recall or warranty despite the symptoms aligning precisely with the recall's description of bearing-related limp mode. This created a safety risk due to sudden loss of motive power while driving, increasing the potential for a crash. As a full-time cancer researcher and phd student who depends on this vehicle for daily lab commuting and time-sensitive experiments, the breakdown and repair dispute have caused major hardship: over a week without transportation, extensive time coordinating tows, appointments, and escalations with Nissan consumer affairs, and disruption to critical research. The dealer confirmed the limp mode and warnings, and inspected the vehicle under the recall procedure. Warning lamps/messages appeared suddenly prior to towing; no unusual noises noted earlier. The affected components (engine controls/sensors potentially stressed by the bearing defect) remain at the dealer for inspection. The recall should provide free ecm reprogramming, oil change, and gasket replacement even without debris, yet the dealer is charging for diagnostics and repairs from the same defect.

12 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2024 Nissan Rogue

Failure Date: 12/11/2025

The contact owns a 2024 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated that while driving approximately 27 mph, the vehicle shuddered and stalled. Several unknown warning lights were illuminated, and the "engine malfunction" message was displayed on the instrument panel. The vehicle was towed to a dealer to be diagnosed; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 45,000.

15 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2020 Nissan Rogue

Failure Date: 12/10/2025

The contact owned a 2020 Nissan Rogue. The contact stated while driving approximately 20 mph during rush hour traffic, the contact became aware of a chemical odor, and within seconds there was black smoke entering the cabin of the vehicle. The contact immediately pulled over and there were flames coming from under the hood. The contact stated that there was a mil warning light illuminated after the flames started. The contact was locked and trapped inside the burning vehicle. The contact was frantically trying to roll the windows down because the vehicle failed to turn off. The contact was then able to roll the rear driver’s side window down and a bystander was able enter into the rear driver side window, unlock the door, and pull the contact from the vehicle. The fire department was called to the scene and extinguished the fire. The vehicle was first towed to redmond towing in alexandria va and was deemed to be a total loss. A police department and fire department report was taken at the scene. The contact refused treatment at the scene but was later taken to urgent care by her husband to be treated for smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire was not yet determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The local dealer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 27,000.

16 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2024 Nissan Rogue

Failure Date: 12/07/2025

Dashboard warning light: "engine malfunction power reduced service now" thie vehicle will suddenly stops in the middle of the road.

17 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2023 Nissan Rogue

Failure Date: 11/29/2025

On 11/29/25, my 2023 Nissan Rogue suffered a sudden and complete engine failure while driving at hwy speed (70mph). The vehicle lost propulsion unexpectedly, which created a significant safety risk. The engine now will not start and the dealership has confirmed the turbo failed forcing coolant into the engine and now it requires a full engine replacement. Prior to the failure, I had received recall information where it states that early warning signs include engine malfunction light. This came one twice, but went off right away. I called to schedule my oil change and asked that I have the recall reviewed, explicitly stating that the symptom was consistent with the known vc-turbo engine recall. I was told on the phone that there is no current remedy for the recall and nothing would be scheduled for that at that time. My oil change and tire rotation appointment was 11/18/25. I picked up my car on 11/24/25 upon returning from travel. Five days later the engine failed catastrophically without additional warning. The dealer diagnosed the failure as a turbocharger failure that forced coolant into the engine resulting in catastrophic internal damage. The engine is now inoperable and requires replacement. When I inquired about recall coverage, the dealer stated that they did not observe visible bearing damage and therefore concluded that the active recall does not apply and the current recall protocol can only be applied if the vehicle can run post-update, and since my in inoperable, the protocol could not be completed. The extended warranty will cover the turbo but not the full engine because they cannot identify the full extent of damage without full engine teardown at my expense. The failure mode (engine malfunction light, turbo failure, coolant intrusion, sudden engine shutdown) aligns with the failure pattern on the Nissan engine recall. The absence of visible bearing damage on post-failure inspection does not rule out defect, and the denial is unjust.

18 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2023 Nissan Rogue

Failure Date: 11/29/2025

On 11/29/25, my vehicle stalled in the middle of the expressway during high speed traffic. This has happened multiple times but this is the first time this has happened while I am on the expressway. An error message came across the dash “engine malfunction” and I was unable to accelerate. I had the vehicle towed to the dealership and they reprogrammed something. I have filed a complaint about this issue before. I do not feel safe operating this vehicle. I have an open consumer affairs case open with Nissan right now. I received an email from Nissan warning about an engine malfunction the day after my engine malfunctioned. I would like this situation remedied please. This vehicle is unsafe to drive with an open recall.

20 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2025 Nissan Rogue

Failure Date: 11/17/2025

On November 17, my 2025 Nissan Rogue caught fire after my hour commute to work. During my commute, there were no warning signs on the dash for the entire duration. Got to the office, parked the vehicle, and within a few minutes a coworker called me to let me know the car was up in flames. The fire quickly intensified and got hot enough to melt the hood, and made its way into the interior after it shattered the windshield. The fire started in the engine compartment, near the battery. The insurance company has a fire investigator attempting to determine the cause of the fire. The car had approximately 12,000 miles.

21 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2022 Nissan Rogue

Failure Date: 11/17/2025

A whole lot of mess! I recently bought my 2022 Nissan Rogue in may of 2025. We took it to the regular oil change and check ups and nothing concerning came up. We got mail for a recall and I brought it in and the Nissan dealership in elk grove, CA turned us down and said "it was not in their system yet. " so, took it again and still the same answer. Well in November before thanksgiving, we started the car and white chemical smell of smoke came out which was the coolant. We towed it to our own mechanic because these dealerships will screw you. Now it's been a whole month that our car has been sitting at the mechanics. Engine was torn apart, everything was all broken and needed to be replaced. My mechanic called the dealership and said they will not pay for it even if it was their issue. Now I'm trying to get my warranty to pay for it since I purchased it. I will not be paying the $10,000 to get that vehicle fixed. I will be seeking an attorney for this lemon car.

22 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2023 Nissan Rogue

Failure Date: 11/15/2025

The engine failed while driving on the interstate at 65+ mph. The malfunction indicator lights came on and beeped loudly, including engine malfunction and awd malfunction (which I don't have). The vehicle lost power, and the engine began making a frightening noise. I had to get over several lanes with no working gas pedal, and I'm lucky nobody was hurt. I had to be towed thirty miles to the nearest dealership. The dealership, who didn't answer when I called ahead to let them know I was coming, was unhelpful, and employees made jokes about just trading it in instead of fixing it. They said it could be months, and that there's no remedy for the recall. I have to wait until they re-open on Monday to speak with anybody. The only symptom prior was that sometimes the vehicle wouldn't recognize my key fob being near/in the vehicle, but I thought it was a battery problem. I thankfully knew about the recall and mentioned it to the dealership, but they don't seem to be agreeable to loaning me a vehicle in the meantime, so this will be a difficult repair process.

23 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2023 Nissan Rogue

Failure Date: 11/14/2025

There is an open recall on my vehicle with no repair available and no timeline for the repair. I have already sent my car in for repairs for a previous recall last year due to random stalling. Now my car will sill randomly stall, fail to accelerate, and the engine will shut off in the middle of traffic. There were never any warning signs or messages prior to the failure. I’ve been experiencing engine failure for about a year and a half. I have had the vehicle since March 2023.

24 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2021 Nissan Rogue

Failure Date: 11/13/2025

Car was sputtering and didn’t idle right, engine light came on and took it to Nissan dealership-they replaced egr valve gasket, exhaust gas recirculating, air filter and did 2 recalls. Then 2 days later the car didn’t want to start and had clouds of white smoke coming out of exhaust. Took back to dealership today and was told I need a new motor-coolant was leaking into cylinder 4. My car only has 127,000 miles on it. Now I can’t drive it and have to come up with $6231. 00 for a used motor with 30k miles on it.

25 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2022 Nissan Rogue

Failure Date: 11/13/2025

I am filing a complaint regarding my 2022 Nissan Rogue sv awd, which has an active safety recall with no available remedy. I was unaware of this recall at the time of lease, as the dealer did not inform me. After confirming the recall, I also found that it cannot currently be repaired. When I notified the dealer about the recall, they dismissed my concerns and hung up the phone, when I was trying to address the issue, and come to find out, the sales man who sold me the vehicle doesn’t even work there anymore and I could t contact him at all.

27 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2022 Nissan Rogue

Failure Date: 11/08/2025

While driving, multiple warning lights appeared on the dashboard, including the check engine light, malfunction indicator, and crash sensor warnings. A message then displayed: “engine malfunction power reduced service now. ” the engine began making loud knocking noises, lost power, and the vehicle entered reduced-power mode. The issue appears to be related to the ongoing engine bearing failure recall (r25a8 / 25v-437) affecting Nissan vehicles with vc-turbo engines. Because of these symptoms and the risk of complete engine failure or loss of motive power, the vehicle became unsafe to drive and was parked. The problem poses a serious safety risk, as the loss of power occurred suddenly while the vehicle was in motion, which could cause an accident if it happens in traffic. The problem has not yet been repaired because the manufacturer has not released the full recall remedy. I called the Nissan dealership in greeneville TN, at 8:53 am est on 11/08/2025 the vehicle is currently parked at my residence. I was advised by the dealership to call back on Monday morning to schedule an inspection at a Nissan dealership. Warning lights and the “engine malfunction power reduced” message first appeared shortly before the loud knocking began and power loss occurred on the vehicle.

31 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2022 Nissan Rogue

Failure Date: 11/02/2025

While driving my 2022 Nissan Rogue, the engine suddenly shut off without warning and the vehicle would not restart. There is an active engine recall, but Nissan has not provided a repair or parts for several months. This unexpected loss of power put my family’s safety and mine at risk, as the incident could have caused a serious accident if it had occurred in traffic or on a freeway. The dealer confirmed the recall but cannot complete the repair until Nissan provides instructions. No warning lights appeared before the failure, though the lane departure and collision warning lights came on after the stall.

32 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2022 Nissan Rogue

Failure Date: 11/01/2025

While driving at highway speed, the vehicle suddenly lost all engine power without warning and rapidly decelerated in traffic. This created a severe safety risk, and the vehicle is available for inspection upon request. The issue was later connected to open recall r25a8, involving engine bearing failure and sudden loss of power. The dealership confirmed that no inspection procedure or repair remedy exists and stated that they have no timeline for when Nissan will provide one. Despite this, the dealer returned the vehicle to me and claimed it was safe to drive, even though the problem remains unresolved. Nissan consumer affairs refuses to communicate in writing and only provides verbal phone calls. Each time they call, they state that they will “provide an update in three days,” but no real progress or written documentation has been provided. Meanwhile, I am left with a vehicle that experienced a complete loss of power on the freeway and remains unsafe to operate. Independent diagnostics showed multiple critical fault codes involving the engine, ecm, abs pump motor, and brake control modules. Warning lights appeared only after the failure; there were no warnings prior to the incident. The safety defect is ongoing, unresolved, and there is currently no available remedy from the manufacturer, leaving the vehicle unsafe and posing continued riski am requesting a full buyback of the vehicle with compensation for all related losses. I have already communicated this request to Nissan, and as mentioned above, they only call with delayed updates and do not resolve the issue.
